A maximal function characterization of Hardy spaces on spaces of homogeneous type

A new maximal funtion is introduced in the dual spaces of test function spaces on spaces of homogeneous type. Using this maximal function, we get new characterization of atomic H^p spaces. This work is supported by NSF.     

Several remarks on ball-coverings of normed spaces

This paper presents two counterexamples about ball-coverings of Banach spaces and shows a new characterization of uniformly non-square Banach spaces via ball-coverings.     

A characterization of inner product spaces related to the skew-angular distance

A new refinement of the triangle inequality is presented in normed linear spaces. Moreover, a simple characterization of inner product spaces is obtained by using the skew-angular distance.     

Symmetric spaces approach to some fixed point results

In this paper we present a simple and unified approach to the fixed point results on cone symmetric spaces and metric type spaces based on symmetric spaces fixed point theory. We also give a new characterization of semi-metric spaces with open balls.     

Kirszbraun's Theorem and Metric Spaces of Bounded Curvature

We generalize Kirszbraun's extension theorem for Lipschitz maps between (subsets of) euclidean spaces to metric spaces with upper or lower curvature bounds in the sense of A.D. Alexandrov. As a by-product we develop new tools in the theory of tangent cones of these spaces and obtain new characterization results which may be of independent interest. A characterization of Lévy probability distribution functions on Euclidean spaces

In 1937, Paul Lévy proved two theorems that characterize one-dimensional distribution functions of class L. In 1972, Urbanik generalized Lévy's first theorem. In this note, we generalize Lévy's second theorem and obtain a new characterization of Lévy probability distribution functions on Euclidean spaces. This result is used to obtain a new characterization of operator stable distribution functions on Euclidean spaces and to show that symmetric Lévy distribution functions on Euclidean spaces need not be symmetric unimodal.

A Characterization of Strictly Convex Spaces and Applications

In this article, we establish a new characterization of strictly convex normed linear spaces. Using this characterization, we obtain an extended version of Banach’s Contraction Principle in a best proximity point setting.     

On posets and independence spaces

By constructing a correspondence relationship between independence spaces and posets, under isomorphism, this paper characterizes loopless independence spaces and applies this characterization to reformulate certain results on independence spaces in poset frameworks. These state that the idea provided in this paper is a new approach for the study of independence spaces. We outline our future work finally.     

A note on maximal commutators with rough kernels

This paper gives a characterization of compactness for maximal commutators with rough kernels in weighted Lebesgue spaces, which is new and interesting even in un-weighted cases. Meanwhile, a new characterization of weighted boundedness for such operators is also established.     

On a theorem of V. V. Filippov

A new characterization of spaces having a point-countable basis is obtained. This characterization is used in giving a simpler proof of a recent theorem of Filippov. Partly supported by an N.S.F. grant.     

New Sobolev spaces via generalized Poincaré inequalities on metric measure spaces

In this paper, we introduce some new function spaces of Sobolev type on metric measure spaces. These new function spaces are defined by variants of Poincaré inequalities associated with generalized approximations of the identity, and they generalize the classical Sobolev spaces on Euclidean spaces. We then obtain two characterizations of these new Sobolev spaces including the characterization in terms of a variant of local sharp maximal functions associated with generalized approximations of the identity. For the well-known Hajłasz–Sobolev spaces on metric measure spaces, we also establish some new characterizations related to generalized approximations of the identity. Finally, we clarify the relations between the Sobolev-type spaces introduced in this paper and the Hajłasz–Sobolev spaces on metric measure spaces.     

Essential norm and a new characterization of weighted composition operators from weighted Bergman spaces and Hardy spaces into the Bloch space

In this paper, we give some estimates for the essential norm and a new characterization for the boundedness and compactness of weighted composition operators from weighted Bergman spaces and Hardy spaces to the Bloch space.     

A Characterization of Schur Multipliers Between Character-Automorphic Hardy Spaces

We give a new characterization of character-automorphic Hardy spaces of order 2 and of their contractive multipliers in terms of de Branges Rovnyak spaces. Keys tools in our arguments are analytic extension and a factorization result for matrix-valued analytic functions due to Leech.      

Time-frequency partitions and characterizations of modulation spaces with localization operators

We study families of time-frequency localization operators and derive a new characterization of modulation spaces. This characterization relates the size of the localization operators to the global time-frequency distribution. As a by-product, we obtain a new proof for the existence of multi-window Gabor frames and extend the structure theory of Gabor frames.

Well-posed constrained optimization problems in metric spaces

Relations between different notions of well-posedness of constrained optimization problems are studied. A characterization of the class of metric spaces in which Hadamard, strong, and Levitin-Polyak well-posedness of continuous minimization problems coincide is given. It is shown that the equivalence between the original Tikhonov well-posedness and the ones above provides a new characterization of the so-called Atsuji spaces. Generalized notions of well-posedness, not requiring uniqueness of the solution, are introduced and investigated in the above spirit.     

Basic functional properties of certain scale of rearrangement-invariant spaces

We define a new scale of function spaces governed by a norm-like functional based on a combination of a rearrangement-invariant norm, the elementary maximal function, and powers. A particular instance of such spaces surfaced recently in connection with optimality of target function spaces in general Sobolev embeddings involving upper Ahlfors regular measures; however, a thorough analysis of these structures has not been carried out. We present a variety of results on these spaces including their basic functional properties, their relations to customary function spaces and mutual embeddings, and, in a particular situation, a characterization of their associate structures. We discover a new one-parameter path of function spaces leading from a Lebesgue space to a Zygmund class and we compare it to the classical one.

An orthogonality in normed linear spaces based on angular distance inequality

In this paper, we present a new orthogonality in a normed linear space which is based on an angular distance inequality. Some properties of this orthogonality are discussed. We also find a new approach to the Singer orthogonality in terms of an angular distance inequality. Some related geometric properties of normed linear spaces are discussed. Finally a characterization of inner product spaces is obtained.
