An Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm, 8 ns, 30 mJ) was focused on various types of fresh, fossilized white coral and giant shell samples, including samples of imitation shell and marble. Such samples are extremely important as material for preparing prayer beads that are extensively used in the Buddhist faith. The aim of this research was to develop a non-destructive method to distinguish original beads from their imitations by means of spectral measurements of the carbon, hydrogen, sodium and magnesium emission intensities and by measuring the hardness of the sample using the ratio between Ca (II) 396.8 nm and Ca (I) 422.6 nm. Based on these measurements, original fresh coral beads can be distinguished from any imitation made from hard wood. The same technique was also effective in distinguishing beads made of shell from its imitation. A spectral analysis of bead was also performed on a fossilized white coral sample and the result can be used to distinguish to some extent the fossilized white coral beads from any imitation made from marble. It was also found that the plasma plume should be generated at low ambient pressure to significantly improve the hydrogen and carbon emission intensity and also to avoid energy loss inside the crater during laser irradiation at atmospheric pressure. The results of this study confirm that operating the laser-induced plasma spectroscopy at reduced ambient pressure offers distinct advantage for bead analysis over the conventional laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technique operated at atmospheric pressure.  相似文献

Mechanical alloying is a versatile technique for the solid state synthesis of many materials, including alloys such as iron-copper where the elements are immiscible under equilibrium conditions. The structural and magnetic state of these alloys, and their thermal stability, have been investigated by means of thermomagnetometry, DSC, X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Comparison of the thermomagnetometry curves for the various alloys together with analysis of intermediate reaction products enabled the individual thermal processes to be identified. The Curie temperature of the alloys was measured, and it was found that on heating the metastable alloys underwent phase segregation between 300-400°C.  相似文献

Reversed-flow gas chromatography, which is a sub-technique of inverse gas chromatography, is an experimental arrangement simulating a simple model for the action of air pollutants on buildings and monuments, in laboratory scale. By using a commercial gas chromatograph and an appropriate mathematical analysis, kinetic parameters such as rate constants for adsorption k1, adsorption/desorption kR and surface reaction k2, as well as surface diffusion coefficients Dgamma, deposition velocities Vd and reaction probabilities gamma of SO2 on marble surfaces at different temperatures (303.15-353.15 K) in the presence or in the absence of protective materials (an acrylic copolymer, Paraloid B-72 or a siloxane, CTS Silo 111) were calculated. From the above mentioned physicochemical quantities the ability of the examined materials to minimize the dry deposition of SO2 on marble is carrying out and a possible mechanism for the interaction between SO2 and Paraloid B-72 was suggested. Both materials (CTS SILO 111 and Paraloid B-72) are good enough for protecting marble against SO2 at low temperatures (303.15-323.15), while at high temperatures (333.15-353.15), siloxane seems to protect marble better than acrylic copolymer.  相似文献

This study deals with the analysis of encrustation on marble by laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), with the aim to obtain quick in-situ information on the in-depth profiling of the encrustation before advancing to conservation treatments. The encrustation examined is formed on exposed marble: (a) as products of the interaction between the stone surface and atmospheric pollutants (dendritic black and thin black encrustation, of approximately 300 and 200 μm thicknesses, respectively); (b) from deposition of soil–dust on marble surfaces (soil–dust crust, 300 μm thick); and (c) from treatments conducted in the past for aesthetic and/or protective purposes (patina samples, 300 μm thick). The crusts examined are multilayer encrustations on un-weathered marble, as revealed by studying cross sections with optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The elemental LIBS profiles of black encrustation based on relative spectral line intensity values show that the Fe, Si, Al and Ti content relative to Ca content decrease significantly with depth, expressing, thus, contamination decreasing within the alteration layers, since these elements originate from atmospheric pollution and deposition. In the cases of soil–dust encrustation and patina samples Si I and Al I emissions identified throughout the analyzed crust, indicate deposition of soil–dust and remnants of previous treatments, respectively. Therefore, LIBS, a micro-destructive technique can be used as an autonomous in-situ diagnostic technique to obtain in-depth elemental profiling of encrustation even in cases of highly in-homogeneous layered crusts, such those of un-weathered Pentelic marble.  相似文献

The conservation of the seventeenth-century Swedish warship Vasa is a challenge due the unique history of its recovery and the delicate interventions made for its preservation. In the past years the strong acidity of wood came out as a threat for its conservation. The large amount of sulfur, produced by metabolic action of bacteria in the seabed, partly converted to sulfuric acid, catalyzes the chemical degradation of the wood through the acid hydrolysis of cellulose. This contribution reviews recent studies on the degradation of Vasa wood. We show how wood acidity can be neutralized by the application of calcium or magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles, forming an alkaline reservoir inside the wood that protect it from further acid attack. This has been evidenced by the thermal analysis carried out on fresh wood, Vasa wood, artificially degraded wood, and paper samples studied as reference cellulose-made materials. Pyrolysis temperature of cellulose was studied, as an important parameter of degradation, also related to the acidity of wood. Decreases in the pyrolysis temperature of degraded cellulose were correlated to decreases of its polymerization degree. Thermal analysis has been also used to investigate the wood de-acidification efficacy after the treatment with alkaline nanoparticles. Hydro-thermally aging, carried out on de-acidified Vasa wood samples demonstrated that de-acidification with nanoparticles facilitates protection of wood toward further acid degradation.  相似文献

Calibration-Free Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (CF-LIBS) has been proposed several years ago as an approach for quantitative analysis of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy spectra. Recently developed refinement of the spectral processing method is described in the present work. Accurate quantitative results have been demonstrated for several metallic alloys. However, the degree of accuracy that can be achieved with Calibration-Free Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy analysis of generic samples still needs to be thoroughly investigated. The authors have undertaken a systematic study of errors and biasing factors affecting the calculation in the Calibration-Free Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy spectra processing. These factors may be classified in three main groups: 1) experimental aberrations (intensity fluctuations and inaccuracy in the correction for spectral efficiency of a detection system), 2) inaccuracy in theoretical parameters used for calculations (Stark broadening coefficients and partition functions) and 3) plasma non-ideality (departure from thermal equilibrium, spatial and temporal inhomogeneities, optical thickness, etc.). In this study, the effects of experimental aberrations and accuracy of spectral data were investigated, assuming that the analytical plasma is ideal. Departure of the plasma conditions from ideality will be the object of future work. The current study was based on numerical simulation. Two kinds of metallic alloys, iron-based and aluminum-based, were studied. The relative weight of the error contributions was found to depend on the sample composition. For the here-investigated samples, the experimental aberrations contribute to the overall uncertainty on the quantitative results more than theoretical parameters. The described simulation method can be applied to the Calibration-Free Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy analysis of any other kind of sample.  相似文献

This paper reports on the magnetic properties of Mn:ZnO nanoparticles. XRD profiles have shown that the undertaken materials are in wurtzite structures. The crystallite size of the sample has been examined using TEM for one sample. In order to verify the lattice site occupancy and also valence state of the manganese ion, EPR spectral measurements have also been carried out for these samples. Nine coppery alloys and five basaltic glasses have been quantitatively evaluated as the reference materials to employ in electron probe X-ray microanalysis. The optimum conditions for measurements were selected considering the dependence of intensity and detection limit on the conditions of the X-ray radiation excitation and analytical signal recording. The homogeneity of basaltic glasses and coppery alloys has been examined. The dependence of electron probe X-ray microanalysis accuracy on the homogeneity of reference materials was studied in the reference materials of coppery alloys.Six data sets comprising the average concentrations, standard deviations, relative standard deviations, confidence interval and the z-score of data quality were calculated for 50 control samples: 10 alloys, 14 glasses, 2 metals, 24 minerals and oxides. The average compositions of every control sample were derived in 8–16 analyses. The measured values were corrected for matrix effects applying the original program. These series of concentrations have been compared with each other and with the certified/recommended values using 2-pair selective Student's t-test.The results gained from both laboratory reference materials and certified glass reference materials show comparable accuracy. The quality of all available results complies with the “applied geochemistry” category of performance (2nd category). The laboratory reference materials give comparable accuracy to certified reference materials and can be used for calibrating microprobe techniques, as well as data quality control. The application of laboratory reference materials in microanalysis of silicate minerals and coppery alloys allows reliable analytical data to be acquired. The applications in mineralogy and metallurgy can be extended successfully to the targets when certified reference materials are not available.  相似文献

In the present decade, the demands for recyclable, environmentally friendly and low-cost with good strength composites materials have been significantly increased. In this context, the particulate wood polymer composites have attracted the researchers owing to their eco-friendliness, low-cost as they are prepared using waste wood particles, and good mechanical and physical properties. These composites were prepared by filling the waste wood particles into the polymers using different fabrication methods such as extrusion, hand layup, compression moulding, injection moulding and additive manufacturing (3D printing). A good number of research works have been reported on the testing and characterization of wood composites for the various applications so far. This fact motivated to prepare a state-of-the-art review on the recent developments in processing, characterization, and applications of wood composites. This paper presents a discussion on the chemical structure and properties of different types of wood species. The mechanical, thermal and water absorption behaviour of thermosets, thermoplastics and biopolymers based wood composites have also been discussed. Further, characterization of the nano biocomposites prepared using nanocellulose/nanoparticles of wood are also presented. The outcomes of the present review provide a good understanding of wood composites that will encourage the researchers for further research works & developments of novel wood composites for the advanced applications.  相似文献

A physical-chemical characterisation of several marbles frequently used in ancient times for artistic or decorative purposes was performed in support the work of historians and restorers. The data were obtained using several different types of instrumental chemical methods (Thermogravimetry, Differential Thermal Analysis, X-ray Diffractometry and ICP Plasma Emission Spectroscopy) and have been summarised in short tables. The data have already proved useful in the identification of a small number of finds (statues or architectonic elements) from Ancient Rome (Imperial Age, 2nd-3nd cent. A.D.) for the purpose of which also a well-known pattern recognition analysis software package was used for data processing. In practice, the research showed that an organised set of chemical data obtained using several modern instrumental methods can provide a valid basis for the reasonably rapid and reliable identification of the type of marble used to make artistic artifacts that have not yet been subjected to typological study.  相似文献

Glow discharge mass spectrometry using a VG9000 high resolution mass spectrometer has been applied to both the multi-element trace and ultra trace analyses of sputtering target materials, i.e. aluminium-based alloys, cobalt-based alloys, titanium and platinum. Element dependent relative sensitivity factors (RSF) have been determined using reference materials in order to provide the possibility for quantitative analyses. Aluminium-based and cobalt-based alloys have been extensively analysed to demonstrate precision of GDMS analyses. Detection limits in the ng/g and sub-ng/g ranges, i.e. 0.2 ng/g for U and Th have been determined in aluminium-based alloys. Comparative analyses for alloy components in cobalt-based alloys as well as trace concentrations in titanium have been performed. GDMS has been also applied to multi-element depth profile analyses in contaminated and noncontaminated platinum targets.  相似文献

Mid-IR fiber-optic reflectance spectroscopy (FORS) is a totally noninvasive infrared analytical technique allowing the investigation of artworks without the need for any sampling. The development and optimization of this analytical methodology can provide a tool that is capable of supporting conservators during the first steps of their interventions, yielding fast results and dramatically reducing the number of samples needed to identify the materials involved. Furthermore, since reflection IR spectra suffer from important spectral anomalies that complicate accurate spectral interpretation, it is important to characterize known reference materials and substrates in advance. This work aims to verify the possibility of investigating and identifying the most widely used wood finishes by means of fiber-optic (chalcogenide and metal halides) mid-infrared spectroscopy. Two historically widely employed wood finishes (beeswax, shellac) and two modern ones (a hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin and a microcrystalline wax) were investigated in an extended IR range (from 1000 to 6000 cm−1) with reflectance spectroscopy and with FORS. The broad spectral response of the MCT detector was exploited in order to include overtones and combination bands from the NIR spectral range in the investigation. The reflectance spectra were compared with those collected in transmission mode in order to highlight modifications to shapes and intensities, to assign absorptions, and finally to select “marker” bands indicating the presence of certain finishing materials, even when applied onto a substrate such as wood, which shows many absorptions in the mid-infrared region. After the characterization, the different products were applied to samples of aged pear wood and investigated with the same techniques in order to check the ability of mid-IR FORS to reveal the presence and composition of the product on the wooden substrate.  相似文献

Non-volatile getter alloys, which have been extensively used for a long time in the traditional field of vacuum technology, have recently been proposed for more advanced applications related to plasma physics, controlled nuclear fusion and general tritium-handling systems. Heat pumps and hydrogen storage devices, where pure hydrogen must be used, may also need purification systems based on these gettering alloys. Some zirconium-based alloys, which are commercially available with different compositions, are good candidates for getter materials in such applications. The equilibrium laws which govern the solution of the hydrogenic species in these alloys up to gas concentrations higher than those usually involved in vacuum applications have been investigated and are discussed together with the main physicochemical properties of the alloys.  相似文献

Wood, one of the most flammable materials, was treated with various compounds containing nitrogen, phosphorus, halogens, and boron. For a study of flame retardance from the standpoint of thermal degradation, the samples were subjected to thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and differential thermogravimetry (DTG) in nitrogen to determine if there were any characteristic correlations between thermal degradation behaviors and the level of flame retardance. From the resulting data, kinetic parameters for different stages of thermal degradation are obtained using the method of Broido. The energies of activation for the decomposition of samples are found to be from 72 to 109 kJ mol–1. For wood and modified wood, the char yields are found to increase from 10.2 to 30.2%, LOI from 18 to 36.5, which indicates that the flame retardance of wood treated with compounds is improved. The flame retardant mechanism of different compounds has also been proposed.  相似文献

This article describes the synthesis of 10H-phenothiazines from 2-aminobenzenethiol and o-halonitrobenzenes via Smiles rearrangement. Upon refluxing with hydrogen peroxide in glacial acetic acid, these phenothiazines yield the corresponding 10H-phenothiazine-5,5-dioxides. The phenothiazines have also been used as base to prepare ribofuranosides by the reaction with β-D-ribofuranose-1-acetate-2,3,5-tribenzoate. All the synthesized compounds have been characterized by spectral and elemental analysis and have been examined for antioxidant and antimicrobial activity.

Two kinds of macrocyclic compounds, S-TAROH18C6 and S-TAROEt12C4 derived from tartaric acid have been synthesized. The structure and conversion of functional groups on this silica gel based resin have been confirmed by IR spectral and elemental analysis. The coordination behaviour of these materials has been investigated by means of IR, EPR, potentiometry and the modification of Langmuir isotherm equation. The metal complexes have been investigated as stationary phases for the separation of amino acid mixtures. Factors affecting the retention and the sample selectivity have been examined. S-TAROEt12C4 possesses good chromatographic characteristics and a unique selectivity in separating underivatized amino acid mixtures and can be used as well for enantiomeric separations.  相似文献
