Digital determination of photoelastic birefringence using two wavelengths   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A new approach for digital determination of photoelastic birefringence is proposed. The relationships between the intensity values and the fringe orders of two wavelengths are derived. This scheme allows for automatic determination of fringe orders of a full-field photoelastic fringe pattern without using zero-order fringes in the fringe pattern. The usefulness of this method was demonstrated on two experimental fringe patterns with different wavelengths.  相似文献

A new and simple approach to the digital determination of a photoelastic fringe order using two different loads is proposed. The relationships between the intensity values of light and the isochromatic fringe orders generated from two different loads are derived. The scheme used for the automated determination of the total fringe orders of a full-field photoelastic fringe pattern is described. The usefulness of this method is demonstrated using two isochromatic fringe patterns under two different loads. Extra filters are not needed in the proposed method as in the case of the two-wavelength method.  相似文献

A photoelastic technique has been developed to determine accurately the fringe order of a sharp notch, i.e., as small as 0.0019 in. in radius, to within ±0.0004 in. of the boundary. The stress is frozen into the specimen, enabling careful study of the specimen. Experimental results are discussed and compared to values obtained from some existing theoretical solutions.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the singular stress field near the vertex of a bimaterial wedge using a digital photoelastic technique. Special attention is given to the casting of bimaterial wedge specimens and analysis technique for extracting stress intensity factors from photoelastic samples. Different bimaterial wedge specimens are made of two different photoelastic materials bonded through a special casting procedure and loaded in simple tension. A new multiple-parameter method is developed to obtain the stress intensity factor reliably from the isochromatic fringe patterns and the series representation of the stress field at the vertex of the wedge. Experimental results are compared with finite element predictions, and good agreement is observed.  相似文献

Visual or graphical determination of isochromatic order in photoelastic models is not sufficiently accurate for many photoelastic observations. This is especially true in the long-wavelength spectral region where fringe orders are low and photometric devices must be used for observation. In such cases, some method of fractional-fringe measurement is required. The Tardy and Sénarmont methods are often chosen for convenience, with preference given to the Sénarmont method because of smaller system error. These methods are based on detection of the analyzer angle at which the light transmitted through the given point in the model is minimum. The experimental problem is poorly conditioned, and the procedure is incompatible with nonideal light-sensing apparatus. The equations of the Sénarmont technique show that the intensity of radiation is an even function of the rotation of the analyzer from the position which produces minimum intensity. The indeterminacy in the measurement of minimum-intensity angle may be reduced by observing the angles at which the intensity reaches arbitrary values greater than minimum. The average of two such readings on both sides of the minimum-intensity angle provides an improved measurement of this angle. Best results are obtained if observations are made where the intensity reaches half its maximum value. For a signal-to-noise ratio of 1000, this procedure improves results by a factor of 16. The dynamic values of the modulus of elasticity and photoelastic fringe constant of Homalite 100 and ten epoxy resins were determined. Of those tested, it was found that five exhibited desirable dynamic properties including two materials which exhibited no appreciable change in fringe constant. Included in this group of five materials were three materials which can be purchased in precast shapes; thus, enabling laboratories without casting facilities to obtain suitable materials for dynamic photoelastic experiments.  相似文献

基于#618环氧树脂、甲基六氢苯酐、促进剂DMP-30、环氧树脂消泡剂四种原料,提出制作光弹性模型的新配方和新方法,并利用单轴压缩实验、电测法和动态光弹法分别测定了制作的光弹模型的动态力学参数。新方法工艺简单,制作周期短,对人体无害。制作的光弹模型初始应力小,表面光洁,质地均匀,透光性好,光学灵敏度高,具有良好的机械加工和切削性能。通过三点弯曲梁冲击实验,得到了清晰的光弹等差条纹图像,验证了该配方和方法制作的模型可以应用于动态光弹性实验。  相似文献

An approximate strain-optic law has been derived for photoelastic analysis of orthotropic model materials. Principal-strain difference and the direction of major principal strain can be obtained from only two photoelastic measurements (isochromatic-fringe order and isoclinic angle) by means of this strain-optic law. Limited experiments on models subjected to uniaxial and biaxial stresses indicate good agreement between the experimental results and predictions of the strain-optic law. A parametric study demonstrates that the direction of major principal strain can be predicted to within a few degrees of the exact value and that the principalstrain difference can be predicted within ±20 percent for most practical values of degree of orthotropy and ratio of principal strains. The error levels are quite acceptable considering the significant ease in analysis provided by the new law and the fact that such error levels are not uncommon in experimental investigations.  相似文献

Shape-memory TiNi fiber-reinforced/epoxy matrix composites have been fabricated, and the suppression of crack-tip stress intensity and the change in fracture toughness have been systematically investigated. Stress-strain data for these composite specimens with notches at various angles and different crack lengths in the transverse direction have been measured in tensile tests. The stress intensity factor at the crack tip is experimentally determined from photoelastic fringe patterns. The decreases inK values are attributed to the compressive stress field in the matrix induced when the pre-strains of the TiNi fiber contract to their initial length upon heating above the austenitic final temperature. We present the influences of the pre-strain of TiNi fibers and the compressive domain size between a crack tip and fiber on theK value.  相似文献

Scattered photoelastic techniques would gain considerable momentum through better understanding of the nature and response of the available photoelastic materials. The influence of the prevailing birefringent effect in the state of load-free polymers on the radiated scattered light energy is investigated. Six different photoelastic materials are considered. The impact of material birefringences on the quality of reading the fringe orders of the scattered radiation in a stressed photoelastic medium is explored. Spectral dependence of the modulation of light vectors in acrylic materials (Plexiglas) is illustrated. The advantage of this characteristic as a convenient means of compensation in scattered photoelasticity is pointed out. Acrylic sheets, a relatively cheap transparent polymer, seem to be suitable for scattered photoelastic analysis. The moiré technique might find application in determining fringe orders in a material such as Homalite-100. Replacing the primary beam by a primary sheet saves the cost and effort consumed in the scanning process. In displacement analysis of opaque bodies using holographic interferometry, it is a common practice to record one hologram of the body at some arbitrary load and then to increase the load and record a second hologram on the same photographic plate. The fringes in the reconstructed image correspond to the change in the displacement occurring between the two exposures. A new technique for photoelastic analysis based on this same idea will be presented. This technique, to be referred to as differential stress-holo-interferometry, has several advantages over existing techniques. Using vector-algebra methods, the general intensity equations for a double-exposure hologram of a photoelastic model in which neither of the holograms is of the unstressed model is developed. In general the resulting interferogram is difficult to interpret; however, for selected types and levels of loading, a pattern which is easily interpreted results. It is shown that the isochromatic fringes in these patterns are more precisely defined than those in a conventional double-exposed hologram of a photoelastic model. In addition, the new technique offers the advantages of increased fringe visibility, isochromatic-fringe multiplication, and an aid for the determination of the isochromatic-fringe order. Finally, for certain types of models, a technique for producing an interferogram in which the isochromatics and isopachics are completely independent and the isopachics do not undergo a half-order-fringe shift is demonstrated.  相似文献

In the current paper a new method for calculating the stress intensity factor from isochromatic data is proposed. The method is based on the calculation of a map of the retardation using only the light- and dark-field images of a crack from a circular polariscope. The experimental retardation is compared with the theoretical one predicted by Westergaard’s model using between 700 and 800 data points in an array around the crack tip region. In this way, the necessity of unwrapping and calibrating the isochromatic fringe order distribution is avoided and a large potential source of error is eliminated. Subsequently, KI, KII and σox are inferred by minimizing an error function. To show the potential and efficacy of the method, K values have been obtained from photoelastic images captured during fatigue tests conducted in a polycarbonate Center-Cracked-Tension (CCT) specimen. Results show an excellent level of agreement with those predicted from theory, highlighting the potential of the proposed methodology.  相似文献

A method is presented for photoelastic analyses whereby fractional fringe orders are determined with enhanced accuracy. It utilizes data from the Tardy compensation method and combines the data by a robust algorithm to produce highly sharpened isochromatic fringe contours in the immediate vicinity of an isoclinic line. Their sharpness provides accurate assessment of fractional fringe orders at a point, relative to that achieved with the broad fringes of the standard Tardy method. Errors introduced by small isoclinic deviations are quantified and found to be inconsequential. The method is well suited to the application of linear elastic fracture mechanics in fracture studies of threedimensional photoelasticity models of complex structures. It is demonstrated for the determination of stress intensity factor at a crack in the solid fuel element of a rocket motor, when the solid fuel is subjected to internal pressure. Other applications are practical, too.  相似文献

A method is proposed to read the isochromatic-fringe order continuously as a function of position. It utilizes the fact that the fringe order is a continuous function of the light intensity, which is converted into the density of a photographic negative and then traced out either by a microdensitometer or isodensitracer. Explicit relationship between the fringe order and the film density is obtained. Hundreds of points can be read between a half and an adjacent integral order. The method is whole field in nature and offers the possiblity of direct computer processing of photoelastic information.  相似文献

将光弹性法与计算机图像处理技术相结合 ,来自动采集光弹性数据和分析应力的方法 ,称为数字光弹性法 ,与传统光弹性法相比 ,它可以进一步提高实验速度和精度。本文详细讨论了以下两个方面 :一是光弹性条纹的细化和倍增处理技术 ;二是自动确定光弹性参数的技术 ,包括相移法、傅立叶变换法、逐步载荷法、广谱分析法和RGB光弹性法等。通过对近二十年来国内外在这些方面的研究、应用和进展作了综述 ,认为采用白光的彩色域相移技术计算光弹性等倾角 ,结合采用白光源或三色光源的相移法来确定光弹性等色线级数 ,有望成为解决静态二维和三维冻结模型薄切片应力分析的最佳方法 ;另外 ,设计一种能实时和同步采集多幅条纹图的实验装置 ,通过相移法来自动获取动态光弹性数据 ,是数字动态光弹性法很有前景的发展方向  相似文献

本文根据 Okubo 的各向异性分析,对纤维增强光弹性复合材料制成的对径受纹压圆板进行了研究;在此基础上提出了采用一个对径受压圆板测定光弹性复合材料三个条值(f_L,f_T,f_(LT))的方法。经与由三棵光弹性复合材料直条试样测定的相应材料条纹值数据比较,发现现在提出的方法更为简便、可靠。  相似文献
