This research investigates degradation of historic paper in polluted environments during long-term dark storage. In an innovative experiment, degradation rates at realistic pollution levels are compared with degradation rates in the absence of pollution, using a set of real historic papers. The most abundant pollutants in repositories in post-industrial environments are taken into account: acetic acid and nitrogen dioxide. Their action was assessed in terms of reduction of ‘handling’ (as defined by decrease in degree of polymerisation) and ‘display’ (as defined by discolouration) lifetimes. Extrapolations to room conditions enabled lifetime predictions in conditions that are comparable to a real archival or library repository environments while prediction uncertainties were analytically evaluated to assess the significance of conclusions. While 10 ppb of NO2 does reduce the handling lifetime of almost all types of paper, their predicted lifetimes were still assessed to be several millennia, with the exception of acidic paper. Acetic acid at concentrations that are typical for archival and library repositories (<100 ppb) has significantly less effect than NO2 while it does not affect display lifetimes. From a conservation management perspective, it needs to be addressed whether the predicted reductions in otherwise significant handling lifetimes are of real concern and whether air filtration in archival and library repositories is justified.  相似文献

Summary A method has been proposed for the determination of small quantities of Cl, SCN and I in mixtures. The method is based on the use of filter paper evenly impregnated with Ag2CrO4. The method permits the determination of 5 to 50g of Cl; 15 to 100g of I and 10 to 150g of SCN with an accuracy of 1.5%.The method may also be used for determination of SCN alone.
Zusammenfassung Ein Verfahren für die Bestimmung kleiner Mengen Chlorid, Rhodanid und Jodid in deren Gemischen wird vorgeschlagen. Es beruht auf der Verwendung eines mit Silberchromat gleichmäßig imprägnierten Filtrierpapierstreifens und ermöglicht die Bestimmung von 5 bis 50g Chlorid,15 bis 100g Jodid und 10 bis 150g Rhodanid mit einer Genauigkeit von 1,5%. Das Verfahren kann auch für die Bestimmung von Rhodanid allein verwendet werden.

Résumé On a proposé une méthode pour le dosage de petites quantités de Cl, SCN, et I en mélanges. La méthode est fondée sur l'emploi d'un papierfiltre uniformément imprégné d'Ag2CrO4. Elle permet le dosage de 5 à 50g de Cl, 15 à 100g d'I et de 10 à 150g de SON, à la précision de 1,5%. On peut aussi utiliser la méthode pour le dosage de SCN seul.

Sensitive and specific procedures for the chromatographic detection of tryptophan and tryptophan-containing peptides are described. Formaldehyde gas induces strong and characteristic fluorescence from tryptophan and peptides with NH2-terminal tryptophan residues on silica gel. On filter-paper, the detection of small amounts of these compounds requires the additional use of an oxidant, such as ozone. Treatment with formaldehyde-hydrochloric acid was used as a method for inducing fluorescence from tryptophan-containing peptides regardless of the position of the tryptophan residue in the peptide molecule. This reaction is useful for the chromatographic demonstration of small amounts of such peptides on both paper and silica gel. The spectral properties of the fluorophores of such tryptophan-containing peptides are distinctive and serve to distinguish them from all other known biogenic compounds that are capable of giving fluorescence with formaldehyde.  相似文献

Agricultural paper mulch is an indispensable part of modern agriculture. It had the functions of heat preservation, moisture preservation, insect resistance, disease prevention, and weed growth inhibition. In order to extend the service life of the paper mulch, we use the solution immersion method to modify the surface of the paper mulch. A super-hydrophobic paper mulch is mainly prepared by using hydrophobic silica. The static contact angle of the super-hydrophobic paper mulch with water is 160.6°. The super-hydrophobic paper mulch samples were immersed in acid solution (pH?=?4.6 H2SO4) and alkaline solution (pH?=?8.5 NaOH). The main instruments are contact angle tester, tensile testing machine and high-speed camera. The hydrophobic properties, mechanical properties and rebound properties of the two kinds of paper mulches were compared. The results showed that the tensile strength and droplet bounce height of the superhydrophobic paper mulch decreased after being soaked in acid or alkaline solution for 48 h. The mass loss rate of paper mulch was more significant in acid solution, but its contact angle was still greater than 145°, and it had good bounce performance. After observing the microscopic morphology of its surface, it was found that silica had a micro-rough structure on the surface of the paper mulch. The method was simple and environmentally friendly, and can alleviate the problem of poor acid and alkali corrosion resistance of the paper mulch, and had extraordinary significance for environmental protection.

The first cyclopentadienylplutonium(IV) compounds, (η5-C5H5)3PuCl and (η5-C5H5)3Pu(NCS) have been prepared, the former by reaction of Cs2PuCl6 with TlC5H5 in CH3CN and the latter by treating the chloride with KNCS in tetrahydrofuran. Both compounds are isostructural with ther UIV and NpIV analogues. The IR and UV/visible spectra of the new compounds are reported.  相似文献

Summary The quantitative paper chromatographic in-situ determination of amino acids in mixtures, using a single-standard sample as the reference, is described. By using a single standard, quantitative two dimensional analyses of complex mixtures became feasible and the efficiency of one dimensional analyses was increased. The proposed methods are particularly helpful in routine analyses specially in those carried out under fixed experimental conditions.  相似文献

建立了以纸芯片为分析平台的尿酸含量快速检测方法.基于尿酸的还原性,以FeCl3为氧化剂组成氧化还原体系,以邻二氮菲为显色剂对反应产物Fe2+进行显色,根据显色强度对尿酸含量进行测定.结果 表明,当FeCl3与尿酸比例为1.6∶1,反应10 min,显色剂pH 7.4时显色最佳.显色强度(RGB值)与尿酸浓度在1.19~5.95 mmol/L范围内呈良好线性关系,相关系数为0.9998.方法 的检测限为0.342 mol/L,日内和日间相对标准偏差分别为0.42%和0.47%.15种共存物质在允许误差范围内均无干扰.测得牛血清中尿酸含量为0.238 mmol/L,平均回收率为96.4%.该方法可用于血清中尿酸含量检测.  相似文献
