We experimentally demonstrate a fiber ring laser for high-resolution torsion measurement, where the laser cavity consists of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer formed with a pair of long-period fiber gratings written in a twisted single-mode fiber by a CO2 laser. The emitting wavelength of the laser provides a measure of the rate of the torsion applied to the grating pair, while the direction of the wavelength shift indicates the sense of the applied torsion. The narrow linewidth and the large side-mode suppression ratio of the laser can provide a much more precise measurement of torsion, compared with passive fiber-optic torsion sensors. The torsion sensitivity achieved is 0.084 nm/(rad/m) in the torsion range ± 100 rad/m, which corresponds to a torsion resolution of 0.12 rad/m, assuming a wavelength resolution of 10 pm for a typical optical spectrum analyzer. The ultimate resolution of the sensor is limited by the linewidth of the laser and could be an order of magnitude higher.  相似文献

A novel configuration of fiber ring laser acoustic sensor, which adopts single-mode fiber as sensing element, is proposed and demonstrated. Linewidth less than 1 kHz is achieved by introducing a segment of erbium-doped fiber in the reflecting arm as saturable absorber. A polarization independent unbalanced Michelson interrogation interferometer and phase generated carrier demodulation technique are adopted to recover signal. Experiments demonstrate that the phase sensitivity is 0.018 rad/nm in good linearity and equivalent minimum detect able length change reaches 19.1 pm.  相似文献

The material dispersion of a tapered fiber is described by Sellmeier's equation. The dependence of refractive index on wavelength and doping concentration is discussed. A He-Ne laser with the output wavelength of 632.8 nm is used in the experiment. When the cutoff frequency of the fiber is less than the laser frequency, the guiding modes of a singl~-mode fiber (at 1550 am) are investigated. The results show that the original single-mode fiber becomes a multi-mode waveguide. The propagation and mode coupling of the light in the taper region are analyzed. By controlling the taper end size of the fiber, the unique tapered fiber can convert a multi-mode beam into a single-mode one.  相似文献

The diode laser (LD) clad-pumped 1947.6 nm continuous wave (CW) Tm3+-doped fiber amplifier is reported using the master oscillation power amplifier (MOPA) method. The injected seed laser is provided by an all-fiber LD-clad-pumped Tm3+-doped single-mode fiber laser, which has a nearly 2.4 W maximal output power and 0.1 nm ultra-narrow linewidth based on the intracore reflection FBG. Using the 25/400 μm double-clad LMA Tm3+-doped fiber as the gain fiber, the output maximal output power is 30.6 W from the fiber amplifier, with a slope efficiency of 39.1% respected to the LD total output power. A high power multi-mode fiber combiner is used to couple high power LD light into the gain fiber. The output wavelength is also located at 1947.6 nm, with the slightly expanded laser linewidth of 0.2 nm.  相似文献

 锥台光纤在激光束到单模光纤以及多模光纤到单模光纤的耦合中,在一些需要质量很高光束的同时有较高功率要求的场合有广泛应用。在这些应用中,锥台光纤的功率转换效率是很重要的一个参数。介绍了锥台光纤的熔拉研磨制作方法,分析了锥台光纤的传输特性。建立了高斯近似模型,采用模场耦合理论,计算了锥台光纤的功率转换效率。在以下参数条件下对细端半径分别为(4±1)μm,(5±1)μm,(6±1)μm,(7±1)μm和(8±1)μm的锥台光纤的功率转换效率进行了实验测定,激光器输出光波长532 nm;多模光纤NA=0.11,纤芯半径a=12.5 μm;得到了与理论计算吻合的结果。  相似文献

为了实现高灵敏度、宽频响应的光纤型加速度传感器,以光纤激光器作为加速度传感器的传感元件,建立了光纤激光加速度传感系统,并对该系统的传感原理、灵敏度和谐振频率等性能进行了分析和实验。采用竖直式加速度传感器结构,结构中的传感组件主要由质量块和中空的细钢管组成,光纤激光器受预应力作用后粘接在钢管内部,在加速度作用下,钢管产生的应变引起光纤激光器的应变和折射率发生改变,导致光纤激光器的出射波长随之发生改变,然后使用干涉解调技术检测出波长的动态变化,即可获得波长中包含的加速度振幅和频率信息。实验结果表明,在20~1 250 Hz频段内,竖直式光纤激光加速度传感器的灵敏度约为-126.2 d B[参考值1 rad/(μm/s~2)],频响曲线的波动幅度在±1.9 d B范围内,加速度响应动态范围为77.46~170.26 d B[500 Hz频点,参考值1μm/(s~2·Hz1/2)],加速度分辨率优于0.01 m/s~2。  相似文献

A low-cost, compact, and lossless temperature sensor based on a twin-core fiber (TCF) is demonstrated and manufactured by splicing two single-mode fibers to the ends of a TCF. The extinction ratio of the comb transmission spectrum is bigger than 15 dB, and the temperature sensitivity of the coupling angle is –0.02 rad/(°C· m) at–30–90°C and –0.032 rad/(°C· m) at 90–175°C. Finite element method is used to calculate the supermodes of the TCF, and the result agrees well with the experiment.  相似文献

The digital communication in a system of two multi-mode solid state chaotic lasers is investigated theoretically. If the usual method working well in a single-mode laser system is applied to a multi-mode laser system, the memory effect of the two nearest digits can cause high rate of mistakes when the digits are decoded through the subtraction of receiver output from the transmittal. By introducing the deviations of two nearest maximum and minimum fluctuations of the signal to decode the digit, the message can be decoded correctly. Also, this communication method does not critically depend on the quality of the chaotic synchronization of the two multi-mode lasers.  相似文献

Coupling plane wave into a single-mode fiber(SMF) with high and steady coupling efficiency is crucial for fiberbased free-space laser systems, where random angular jitters are the main influencing factors of fiber coupling. In this paper, we verified a new adaptive-optic device named adaptive fiber coupler(AFC) which could compensate angular jitters and improve the SMF coupling efficiency in some degree. Experiments of SMF coupling under the angular jitter situation using AFC have been achieved. Stochastic parallel gradient descent(SPGD) algorithm is employed as the control strategy, of which the iteration rate is 625 Hz. In closed loop, the coupling efficiency keeps above 65% when angular errors are below 80 μrad. The compensation bandwidth is 35 Hz at sine-jitter of 15 μrad amplitude with average coupling efficiency of above 60%. Also, experiments with simulated turbulence have been studied. The average coupling efficiency increases from 31.97% in open loop to 61.33% in closed loop, and mean square error(MSE) of coupling efficiency drops from 7.43% to 1.75%.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a frequency-doubled pulsed Yb-doped fiber amplifier exhibiting Fourier-transform limited 10-ns pulses at a repetition rate of up to 5 kHz. The amplifier is seeded by an external cavity diode laser whose output is chopped into light pulses of 10- to 1200-ns duration. The first stage is operated with a single-mode fiber, while the other two stages employ multi-mode double clad fibers. Output energies of up to 516 μJ per pulse have been recorded. The output power is limited by the onset of stimulated Brillouin scattering. As an example of the possible applications, we demonstrate the temperature measurement of water by Brillouin scattering employing the frequency-doubled radiation from the amplifier.  相似文献

We demonstrate that appropriately designed doped multimode fibers provide robust single-mode output when used within a fiber laser cavity. Using a novel large-mode-area fiber, we demonstrate what we believe to be record single-mode (M(2) <1.2) pulse energies of >0.5 mJ from a Q -switched fiber laser and even higher pulse energies (as high as 0.85 mJ) with slightly compromised spatial-mode quality (M(2)<2.0) . This approach offers significant scope for extending the range of single-mode output powers and energies that are achievable from fiber-laser-amplifier systems.  相似文献

Single-mode/multi-mode/single-mode (SMS) fiber sensors are optimally designed and used as high sensitivity temperature sensors in special temperature range. It is shown that the width of multi-mode fiber is a key factor influencing the performance of as-fabricated temperature sensors, which can be effectively controlled in the fabrication process by monitoring the output power of SMS fiber during wet acid etching process. As-fabricated temperature sensors show promising potential applications for precisely monitoring chemical reaction temperature in chemistry and biomedicine fields.  相似文献

We propose and investigate a compact optical fiber sensor that aims to measure the torsion in both amount and direction with high sensitivity. This sensor is configured by a triangular-prism-shaped long-period fiber grating, which is fabricated by the high frequency CO_2 laser polished method. The unique design of the triangular-shaped structure breaks the rotational symmetry of the optical fiber and provides high sensitivity for torsion measurement. In preliminary experiments, the torsion response of the sensor achieves a good stability and linearity. The torsion sensitivity is 0.54 nm/(rad/m), which renders the proposed structure a highly sensitive torsion sensor.  相似文献

We propose a novel nonlinear-optical fiber modulator for high-power (>1-W) single-mode fiber lasers. The device is based on transferring the amplitude modulation from a low-power signal at the Stokes frequency onto a high-power beam through stimulated Raman scattering. The efficiency and limitations of the Raman modulator when highly Ge-doped fiber is used is considered. An insertion loss of less than 0.4 dB and an extinction ratio of 20 dB are predicted for modulation of a 10-W single-mode Nd-doped fiber laser.  相似文献

In this work we analyze the behavior of an erbium-doped fiber laser which is based on a simple scheme. Excitation of the active medium is performed in the 980 nm pump band with a CW semiconductor laser source. Two fiber Bragg gratings acting as mirrors of the Fabry–Perot laser cavity were used. One of these gratings was mounted over a piezoelectric (PZT) element. By applying voltage pulses to the piezoelectric, the laser cavity was temporally modulated and Q-switched laser pulses up to 530 mW peak powers at 3 kHz were obtained. Typical laser emission of 2–3 μs temporal widths and 0.1 nm of optical bandwidth have been achieved when the system was operated at 18.5 kHz repetition rates. Different behaviors were observed depending on the pumping level of the active medium and on the amplitude and frequency of the signal applied on the PZT. Q-switched laser output, in the erbium spectral gain region, with high laser efficiency of energy conversion was generated. Pumping at 76 mW and operating the laser at 18.5 kHz, an efficiency of 26% was obtained.  相似文献

We describe high-power planar waveguide laser which can achieve single-mode output from a multi-mode structure. The planar waveguide is constructed with incomplete self-imaging properties, by which the coupling loss of each guided mode can be discriminated. 为了获得不同间隔双波长信号输出,提出一种基于受激布里渊效应产生双波长激光的实验装置,利用不同间隔双波长输出信号进行拍频实验可获得可调的微波信号输出;利用一段10 km长普通单模光纤(SMF)作为布里渊增益介质,一个线宽为5 kHz分布反馈激光器(DFB)作为布里渊抽运源,一段未泵浦的保偏掺铒光纤用作饱和吸收体抑制边模,通过改变未泵浦保偏掺铒光纤的长度,可获得不同间隔输出的双波长光纤激光器,实验获得波长间隔为0.170 nm和0.085 nm的激光信号输出,分别对应20 GHz和10 GHz的微波信号。  相似文献

In this letter, we report on single-mode operation of originally multi-mode oxide VCSEL by using etched photonic crystal air holes and unique trench structure. The device fabrication utilized conventional photolithography; with simplified lithography step of self-aligning the photonic crystal and trench structures to the laser aperture for efficient and vigorous device processing. The fabricated photonic crystal VCSEL with trench device exhibits a single-mode output power of 0.7 mW, threshold current of 3.5 mA, slope efficiency of 0.10 W/A, and continuous single-mode output spectra at wide operating current range. The results are compared with conventional multi-mode oxide VCSEL of similar device geometry. In addition, theoretical analysis is presented for developing further understanding of the photonic crystal VCSEL.  相似文献
