Propagation characteristics of a polarized optical solitary pulse are analyzed by taking into account the effect of nonparaxiality and mutual interaction. To start with, a pair of generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equations is deduced through an operator approach. Stationary solutions of such a system are then analyzed numerically through a boundary value problem in two stages, with and without the nonparaxial effect. In the second stage, the propagating form of the corresponding spatial soliton is studied by an extended split step algorithm ETDRK. The initial profile is considered to be both a one- and two-soliton solution, to visualize the event of scattering and fusion. From this data, we have computed the intensity, root mean square spectral width, and chirp of a single soliton as it propagates. In the case of the two-soliton solution, we observe that for source parameter values, the fusion is more favored than scattering. It is observed that nonparaxiality and the interaction between A(x) and A(y) tends to destroy the periodic behaviors of these parameters. Lastly, we have investigated the modulational instability of the system as function of frequency detuning and nonparaxiality. The form of the gain is discussed as a function of nonparaxiality.  相似文献

The applicability of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann technique coupled with finite difference methods is enhanced by extending it to multiple scattering from obstacles of arbitrary shape. The original boundary value problem (BVP) for the multiple scattering problem is reformulated as an interface BVP. A heterogenous medium with variable physical properties in the vicinity of the obstacles is considered. A rigorous proof of the equivalence between these two problems for smooth interfaces in two and three dimensions for any finite number of obstacles is given. The problem is written in terms of generalized curvilinear coordinates inside the computational region. Then, novel elliptic grids conforming to complex geometrical configurations of several two-dimensional obstacles are constructed and approximations of the scattered field supported by them are obtained. The numerical method developed is validated by comparing the approximate and exact far-field patterns for the scattering from two circular obstacles. In this case, for a second order finite difference scheme, a second order convergence of the numerical solution to the exact solution is easily verified.  相似文献

This paper completes two previous papers in which we have developed the self-consistent Green’s function formalism for acoustic and light scattering. It is concerned with the unitarity and symmetry properties of the interaction and far field scattering operator of this formalism. We will show that these are primarily mathematical properties, and that the principles of energy conservation and reciprocity, which express our physical experience, can be modeled by these mathematical properties. For this we have to distinguish two experimental configurations, and only one of these configurations will allow us to relate energy conservation to unitarity. Closely related to this are questions concerning the definition and measurability of the scattering quantities and the importance of the optical and generalized optical theorem. These questions will be also discussed from the point of view of the self-consistent Green’s function formalism.  相似文献

The exact analytical solution for the scattering of a generalized (or “hollow”) acoustic Bessel beam in water by an elastic sphere centered on the beam is presented. The far-field acoustic scattering field is expressed as a partial wave series involving the scattering angle relative to the beam axis and the half-conical angle of the wave vector components of the generalized Bessel beam. The sphere is assumed to have isotropic elastic material properties so that the nth partial wave amplitude for plane wave scattering is proportional to a known partial-wave coefficient. The transverse acoustic scattering field is investigated versus the dimensionless parameter ka(k is the wave vector, a radius of the sphere) as well as the polar angle θ for a specific dimensionless frequency and half-cone angle β. For higher-order generalized beams, the acoustic scattering vanishes in the backward (θ = π) and forward (θ = 0) directions along the beam axis. Moreover it is possible to suppress the excitation of certain resonances of an elastic sphere by appropriate selection of the generalized Bessel beam parameters.  相似文献

In a recent paper we developed a formalism that fully accommodates the mutual interactions among scatterers separable by parallel planes. The total fields propagating away from these planes are the unknowns of a system of difference equations. Each scatterer is characterized by a scattering function that expresses the scattered wave amplitude as a function of the incident and scattered wavevectors for a unit-amplitude plane wave scattered from the object in isolation. This function can be derived completely from the scattered far field with the help of analytic continuation. For a two-scatterer system the mutual-interaction equations reduce to a single Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. It turns out that analytic solutions are tractable for those scattering functions that are Dirac deltas or a sum of products of separable functions of the incident and scattered wavevectors. Scattering functions for planes and isotropic scatterers, as well as electric and magnetic dipoles all possess this property and are considered. The exact scattering functions agree with results obtained by analytic continuation. This paper consists of two parts. Part I derives analytic solutions for two discrete scatterers (isotropic scatterers. electric dipoles, magnetic dipoles). Part II is devoted to scattering from an object (isotropic or dipole scatterer) near an interface separating two semi-infinite uniforn-media. Because the results in this paper are exact, the effects of near-field interactions can be assessed. The forms of the scattering solutions can be adapted to objects that are both radiating and scattering.  相似文献

A T-matrix formulation is presented to compute acoustic scattering from arbitrary, disjoint distributions of cylinders or spheres, each with arbitrary, uniform acoustic properties. The generalized approach exploits the similarities in these scattering problems to present a single system of equations that is easily specialized to cylindrical or spherical scatterers. By employing field expansions based on orthogonal harmonic functions, continuity of pressure and normal particle velocity are directly enforced at each scatterer using diagonal, analytic expressions to eliminate the need for integral equations. The effect of a cylinder or sphere that encloses all other scatterers is simulated with an outer iterative procedure that decouples the inner-object solution from the effect of the enclosing object to improve computational efficiency when interactions among the interior objects are significant. Numerical results establish the validity and efficiency of the outer iteration procedure for nested objects. Two- and three-dimensional methods that employ this outer iteration are used to measure and characterize the accuracy of two-dimensional approximations to three-dimensional scattering of elevation-focused beams.  相似文献

Exact expressions for the source function, flux, and scattered intensity normal to the surface are developed in cylindrical coordinates for a three-dimensional, absorbing, emitting, isotropically scattering medium exposed to both diffuse and collimated radiation. Simplifications of these expressions for certain important geometries and uniform loading are presented. Also, superposition of these equations and radiative equilibrium are discussed. The generalized three-dimensional equations are shown to reduce to the familiar one-dimensional results. Also, the equations for a strongly anisotropic phase function which is made up of a spike in the forward direction superimposed on an otherwise isotropic phase function are expressed in terms of the isotropic expressions.  相似文献

The problem of spatially varying, collimated radiation incident on an anisotropically scattering, plane-parallel medium is considered. A very general phase function is allowed. An integral transform is used to reduce the three-dimensional radiative transport equation to a one-dimensional form, and a modified Ambarzumian's method is applied to derive nonlinear integral and integro-differential equations for the generalized reflection and transmission functions. The integration is over the polar and azimuthal angles—this formulation is referred to as the double-integral formulation. The integral equations are used to illustrate symmetry relationships and to obtain single- and double-scattering approximations. The generalized reflection and transmission functions are important in the construction of the solutions to many multidimensional problems. Coupled integral equations for the interior and emergent intensities are developed and, for the case of two identical homogeneous layers, used to formulate a doubling procedure. Results for an isotropic and Rayleigh scattering medium are presented to illustrate the computational characteristics of the formulation.  相似文献

In order to investigate the surface roughness dependence of speckle patterns, the complex-amplitude distribution of the speckle field should be obtained first. In previous studies, most investigators have treated this problem using the Fresnel or Fraunhofer diffraction equation. But for a weakly scattering reflective surface, when the observation plane is not parallel to the object plane, the Fresnel and Fraunhofer diffraction equations become inapplicable. Therefore, a reflective surface diffraction model (RSDM) is formed. When the difference between the RSDM and the transmission aperture diffraction model (TADM) is considered, then a general diffraction equation is presented. Considering the variations of the near-field approximation caused by coordinate system rotation, the near-field diffraction equation is derived. By introducing the far-field approximation, the far-field diffraction equation is obtained. The physical meanings of factors in the new equations are interpreted. Comparisons between the Fresnel and Fraunhofer diffraction equations and the newly derived ones show that the former are just the special cases of the latter. Finally, an application of these new diffraction equations is proposed.  相似文献

Second-order elliptic differential equations (such as the time-independent single particle Schrödinger equation) may be solved in a finite closed disjoint region of space independently of the rest of space. The solution in all space may then be determined by solving the equations in the exterior region together with boundary conditions at the junction of the two regions. These boundary conditions are determined by the previously found interior solution. This means that such regions may be taken as ‘black boxes’ whose exact details do not matter. The simplest example of this is phase-shift scattering theory from a single scatterer where all the scattering properties are described by the phase shifts, and the exact details of the scattering potential are unimportant. In a macroscopic condensed system, however, there are many core regions and one is really concerned with the multiple scattering which takes place between these different scattering centres. Much of this article is devoted to investigating the formal properties of scattering theory when there are many non-overlapping spherical regions of radius R M, each of which is described by its own scattering matrix, or, equivalently for a spherically symmetric potential, by its phase shifts. Non-spherically symmetric and spin-dependent potentials are permitted, but for simplicity we assume initially that the interstitial region between each disjoint scattering region has zero potential. The generalization of the multiple scattering formalism for non-zero interstitial potential is also given at a later stage.

It is shown that in such a system a generalized T-matrix may be defined which describes the radiation from one of the core regions when another one has been excited. It is then a many channel T-matrix in which the channels are the different disjoint scattering regions. It is shown that the formal properties of this T matrix are the same as for a normal T matrix. In § 2 we review the properties of ordinary scattering theory, and then in § 3 we show that analogous properties for the generalized T matrix hold. An exact expression for the density of particle eigenstates is derived in terms of the positions and scattering matrices of the individual scattering centres. This expression reduces to the standard KKR band structure equation for the infinite regular lattice. We also consider how to construct the density of eigenstates and the charge density for such a system. These latter quantities may be approached in two different ways: the usual way is to consider the scattering material to occupy all space, but from a multiple scattering viewpoint one must consider the total volume of condensed material to be small compared with all space, even if both limit to infinity. It is not obvious that the latter method leads to the same results as the former (formally the density of eigenvalues is identical to the free electron density of eigenvalues in the latter method) and it is shown how the differences in the two approaches are resolved. We also discuss the expansion of some of these results for a perfect lattice. While the usual expansions are pseudo-potential expansions, a manifestly ‘on-energy shell’ expansion is derived which does not contain the arbitrary parameters of the pseudo-potential expansions. Finally, in § 4, we review the most significant contributions of other authors to the theory of multiple scattering.  相似文献

We propose a general method to realize a total scattering of an incident acoustic wave at interfaces between different media while allowing the flow of air, fluids and/or particles. This originates from the enlargement of the equivalent acoustic scattering cross section of an embedded object coated with acoustic metamaterials, which causes the coated object to behave as a scatterer bigger than its physical size. We theoretically design a model circular cylindrical object coated with such metamaterials whose properties are determined according to two different, but identical, methods. The desired function is confirmed for both far-field and near-field cases with full wave simulations based on the finite element method. This work reveals a promising way to achieve noise shielding and naval camouflage.  相似文献

A result, which does not appear to be available elsewhere, concerning the far-field scattering of antiplane waves by a single thin crack in an elastic solid is obtained in this letter. Specifically, the angular shape function is derived, with scattering coefficients expressed in terms of the crack-opening displacement. With this function, numerical values for effective speed and attenuation through a distribution of parallel cracks are obtained.  相似文献

Metallic singlet ground state systems have often anomalous elastic properties which result from the coupling of the phonons to the crystal field energy levels of the rare earth ions. It is shown that structural and magnetic phase transitions should occur in the same way in those systems. They are caused by a sufficiently strong electron-ion interaction. While the orbital part of this interaction is responsible for possible structural phase transitions, the spin dependent part is responsible for magnetic phase transitions. This is demonstrated in detail by considering as an example the aspherical Coulomb charge scattering and the isotropic exchange interaction. We calculate the sound velocity, the sound attenuation and the excitations in the presence of the aspherical Coulomb charge scattering. Furthermore we discuss the mutual coupling of structural and magnetic phase transitions. This includes a consideration of other types of coupling than aspherical Coulomb scattering and isotropic exchange.  相似文献

Coherence properties of primary partially coherent radiations (light, X-rays and particles) elastically scattered from a 3D object consisting of a collection of electrons and nuclei are analyzed in the Fresnel diffraction region and in the far field. The behaviour of the cross-spectral density of the scattered radiation transverse and along to the local direction of propagation is shown to be described by respectively the 3D Fourier and Fresnel transform of the generalized radiance function of a scattering secondary source associated with the object. A relativistic correct expression is derived for the mutual coherence function of radiation which takes account of the dispersive propagation of particle beams in vacuum. An effect of the spatial coherence of radiation on the temporal one is found; in the Fresnel diffraction region, in distinction to the field, both the longitudinal spatial coherence and the spectral width of radiation affect the longitudinal coherence. A solution of the 3D inverse scattering problem for partially coherent radiation is presented. It is shown that squared modulus of the scattering potential and its 2D projections can be reconstructed from measurements of the modulus and phase of the degree of transverse spatial coherence of the scattered radiation. The results provide a theoretical basis for new methods of image formation and structure analysis in X-ray, electron, ion, and neutron optics.  相似文献

A generalized form of the two-body Kowalski-Noyes method is shown to provide a both simple and powerful unitary reduction of the three- and N-body scattering equations. Employing generalized half-off-shell functions that satisfy of-sshell but real and non-singular integral equations, the reduction directly leads to on-shell integral equations for the scattering amplitudes. Physically, it is simple example of how the scattering problem can be split into an internal and an external part.  相似文献

A unified treatment of three-particle scattering theory with a three-body force in addition to the usual pair interactions is developed. The relationship of the generalized AGS and Faddeev formalisms to each other as well as distinct versions of each corresponding to the two most natural techniques for handling the three-body potential are established. It is found, just as in the case without the three-particle force, that the AGS formalism appears to be more practical for considering elastic and rearrangement scattering in two-body channels. On the other hand, for scattering amplitudes with at least one three-body channel (breakup and the 3-to-3) the Faddeev version of the theory is preferable. Other advantages of each formalism depending upon the treatment of the three-body interaction are noted.  相似文献

The generalized Fresnel model presented in part I as a simplified method for analyzing angular distributions of very heavy ion scattering is used here with an alternative parameterization of the partial-wave S-matrix. Its form is suggested by analytic expressions for the reflection function and nuclear phase shifts derived by Kauffmann from conventional optical potentials. This enables us to formulate explicitly the relationships between the l-space and r-space properties of the elastic heavy ion interaction, in particular the continuous ambiguities and other features found empirically from optical model calculations.  相似文献
