It is proved that any harmonic map ϕ : Ω →Sp(N) from a simply connected domain Ω ⊆R 2⋃ | ∞ | into the symplectic groupSp(N)U(2N) with finite uniton number can be factorized into a product of a finite number of symplectic unitons. Based on this factorization, it is proved that the minimal symplectic uniton number of ϕ is not larger thanN, and the minimal uniton number of ϕ is not larger than 2N - 1. In this paper we use the combinatorial harmonic map theory to study the isometric actions of discrete groups on Hadamard spaces. Let M be a quantizable symplectic manifold. If ψt is a loop in the group {Ham}(M) of Hamiltonian symplectomorphisms of M and A is a 2k-cycle in M, we define a symplectic action κA(ψ)∊ U(1) around ψt(A), which is invariant under deformations of ψ, and such that κA(ψ) depends only on the homology class of A. Using properties of κA( ) we determine a lower bound for ♯π1(Ham(O)), where O is a quantizable coadjoint orbit of a compact Lie group. In particular we prove that ♯π1(Ham(CPn)) ≥ n+1. For any symplectic action of a compact connected group on a compact connected symplectic manifold, we show that the intersection of the Weyl chamber with the image of the moment map is a closed convex polyhedron. This extends Atiyah–Guillemin–Sternberg–Kirwan's convexity theorems to non-Hamiltonian actions. As a consequence, we describe those symplectic actions of a torus which are coisotropic (or multiplicity free), i.e. which have at least one coisotropic orbit: they are the product of an Hamiltonian coisotropic action by an anhamiltonian one. The Hamiltonian coisotropic actions have already been described by Delzant thanks to the convex polyhedron. The anhamiltonian coisotropic actions are actions of a central torus on a symplectic nilmanifold. This text is written as an introduction to the theory of symplectic actions of compact groups since complete proofs of the preliminary classical results are given. In the first part of the paper we give a characterization of groups generated by elements of fixed prime order p. In the second part we study the group G n (p) of n × n matrices with the pth power of the determinant equal to 1 over a field F containing a primitive pth root of 1. It is known that the group G n (2) of n × n matrices of determinant ± 1 over a field F and the group SL n (F) are generated by their involutions and that each element in these groups is a product of four involutions. We consider some subgroups G of G n (p) and study the following problems: Is G generated by its elements of order p? If so, is every element of G a product of k elements of order p for some fixed integer k? We show that G n (p) and SL n (F) are generated by their elements of order p and that the bound k exists and is equal to 4. We show that every universal p-Coxeter group has faithful two-dimensional representations over many fields F (including ? and ?). For a universal p-Coxeter group of rank ≥ 2 for p ≥ 3 or of rank ≥ 3 for p = 2 there is no bound k.  相似文献

Duality maps of finite abelian groups are classified. As a corollary, spin models on finite abelian groups which arise from the solutions of the modular invariance equations are determined as tensor products of indecomposable spin models. We develop a theory of harmonic maps f:MN between singular spaces M and N. The target will be a complete metric space (N,d) of nonpositive curvature in the sense of A. D. Alexandrov. The domain will be a measurable space (M,) with a given Markov kernel p(x,dy) on it. Given a measurable map f:MN, we define a new map Pf:MN in the following way: for each xM, the point Pf(x)N is the barycenter of the probability measure p(x,f –1(dy)) on N. The map f is called harmonic on DM if Pf=f on D. Our theory is a nonlinear generalization of the theory of Markov kernels and Markov chains on M. It allows to construct harmonic maps by an explicit nonlinear Markov chain algorithm (which under suitable conditions converges exponentially fast). Many smoothing and contraction properties of the linear Markov operator P M,R carry over to the nonlinear Markov operator P=P M,N . For instance, if the underlying Markov kernel has the strong Lipschitz Feller property then all harmonic maps will be Lipschitz continuous.  相似文献
