Elementary operators on self-adjoint operators

Let H be a Hilbert space and let A and B be standard ∗-operator algebras on H. Denote by As and Bs the set of all self-adjoint operators in A and B, respectively. Assume that and are surjective maps such that M(AM^∗(B)A)=M(A)BM(A) and M^∗(BM(A)B)=M^∗(B)AM^∗(B) for every pair A∈As, B∈Bs. Then there exist an invertible bounded linear or conjugate-linear operator and a constant c∈{−1,1} such that M(A)=cTAT^∗, A∈As, and M^∗(B)=cT^∗BT, B∈Bs.     

On operators commuting with Toeplitz operators modulo the compact operators

We prove that an operator on H² of the disc commutes modulo the compacts with all analytic Toeplitz operators if and only if it is a compact perturbation of a Toeplitz operator with symbol in H^∞ + C. Consequently, the essential commutant of the whole Toeplitz algebra is the algebra of Toeplitz operators with symbol in QC. The image in the Calkin algebra of the Toeplitz operators with symbol in H^∞ + C is a maximal abelian algebra. These results lead to a characterization of automorphisms of the algebra of compact perturbations of the analytic Toeplitz operators.     

Homogeneous operators and homogeneous integral operators

We introduce and study in a general setting the concept of homogeneity of an operator and, in particular, the notion of homogeneity of an integral operator. In the latter case, homogeneous kernels of such operators are also studied. The concept of homogeneity is associated with transformations of a measure—measure dilations, which are most natural in the context of our general research scheme. For the study of integral operators, the notions of weak and strong homogeneity of the kernel are introduced. The weak case is proved to generate a homogeneous operator in the sense of our definition, while the stronger condition corresponds to the most relevant specific examples—classes of homogeneous integral operators on various metric spaces—and allows us to obtain an explicit general form for the kernels of such operators. The examples given in the article—various specific cases—illustrate general statements and results given in the paper and at the same time are of interest in their own way.     

Normal operators similar to irreducible operators

A complete characterization of normal operators which are similar to irreducible operators and some related results are given.     

On operators commuting with Toeplitz operators modulo the finite rank operators

Let X be a bounded linear operator on the Hardy space H² of the unit disk. We show that if is of finite rank for every inner function θ, then X=T_?+F for some Toeplitz operator T_? and some finite rank operator F on H². This solves a variant of an open question where the compactness replaces the finite rank conditions.     

Nilpotent operators similar to irreducible operators

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the nilpotent operators to be similiar to irreducible operators, and give an answer to D. A. Herrero Conjectures for nilpotent operators.     

Abel wave operators. II. Wave operators for functions of operators

It is shown that in a scattering theory with averaging the invariance principle of M. S. Birman and T. Kato (in its strong form) is always valid.     

Hahn-Banach extension operators and spaces of operators

Let be Banach spaces and let be closed operator ideals. Let be a Banach space having the Radon-Nikodým property. The main results are as follows. If is a Hahn-Banach extension operator, then there exists a set of Hahn-Banach extension operators , , such that , where . If is an ideal in for all equivalently renormed versions of , then there exist Hahn-Banach extension operators and such that .

     

Elementary operators on algebras of unbounded operators

Summary Structural results about elementary operators of length one, local elementary operators and injectivity preserving maps are proved. These are generalizations of results concerning algebras of bounded operators on Banach spaces to algebras of unbounded operators on Hilbert spaces.     

Perturbing Fredholm operators to obtain invertible operators

A condition is given on a set $\text{Ol}$ of operators on Hilbert space that guarantees it has the following property: For any Fredholm operator T of index zero there exists anA?$\text{A}$ such that T + ?A is invertible for all sufficiently small nonzero ?. As a corollary one obtains in a quite general setting the density of the invertible Toeplitz operators in the set of Fredholm Toeplitz operators of index zero.     

On operators which commute with analytic Toeplitz operators modulo the finite rank operators

It is shown that an operator on the Hardy space (or ) commutes with all analytic Toeplitz operators modulo the finite rank operators if and only if . Here is a finite rank operator, and in the case , is a sum of a rational function and a bounded analytic function, and in the case , is a bounded analytic function.
