In almost every ecological system, growth of various interacting species evolve in different time scales and the implementation of this time scale difference in the corresponding mathematical model exhibits some rich and complex oscillatory dynamics. In this article, we consider a predator–prey model with Beddington–DeAngelis functional response in which the prey reproduction is affected by the predation induced fear and its carry-over effect. Considering the growth of prey species occurs on a faster time scale than that of predator, the proposed system reduces to a ‘slow–fast predator–prey’ system. Using the geometric singular perturbation theory and asymptotic expansion technique, we investigate the system both analytically and numerically, and observe a wide range of rich and complex dynamics such as canard cycles (with or without head) near the singular Hopf-bifurcation threshold and relaxation oscillation cycles. The system experiences a canard explosion through which a rapid transition from small amplitude limit cycle to large amplitude limit cycle occurs in a tiny parametric interval. These types of complex oscillatory dynamics are absent in non slow–fast systems. Furthermore, it is shown that the interplay between fear and its carry-over effect, and the variation of time scale parameter may lead to a regime shift of the oscillatory dynamics. We also study the impact of fear and its carry-over effect on the properties of long transient dynamics. Thus our study provides some valuable biological insights of a slow–fast predator–prey system which will aid in understanding the interplay between fear and its carry-over effect.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the impact of strong Allee effect on the stability of a discrete-time predator–prey model with a non-monotonic functional response. The dynamics of discrete-time predator–prey models with strong Allee effect is studied earlier. But, the mathematical investigations of predator–prey dynamics in discrete-time set up with Holling type-IV functional response and strong Allee effect in prey are lacking. The proposed model supports the coexistence of two steady states, and the mathematical features of the model are analyzed based on local stability and bifurcation theory. By considering the Allee parameter as the bifurcation parameter, we provide sufficient conditions for the flip and the Neimark–Sacker bifurcations. We observe that Allee parameter plays a significant role in the dynamics of the system.  相似文献

The weak Allee effect on the predator is introduced into the classic predator–prey model of Lotka–Volterra type. Global qualitative and bifurcation analyses are combined to determine the global dynamics of the model. It is shown that the weak Allee effect can bring rich and complicated dynamics to the previous simple model, such as the saddle–node bifurcation, subcritical and supercritical Hopf bifurcations, and Bogdanov–Takens bifurcations, implying that weak Allee effect can be one of the simple reasons for many complicated behaviours in the predator–prey communities.  相似文献

Since intraguild predation (IGP) is a ubiquitous and important community module in nature and Allee effect has strong impact on population dynamics, in this paper we propose a three-species IGP food web model consisted of the IG predator, IG prey and basal prey, in which the basal prey follows a logistic growth with strong Allee effect. We investigate the local and global dynamics of the model with emphasis on the impact of strong Allee effect. First, positivity and boundedness of solutions are studied. Then existence and stability of the boundary and interior equilibria are presented and the Hopf bifurcation curve at an interior equilibrium is given. The existence of a Hopf bifurcation curve indicates that if competition between the IG prey and IG predator for the basal resource lies below the curve then the interior equilibrium remains stable, while if it lies above the curve then the interior equilibrium loses its stability. In order to explore the impact of Allee effect, the parameter space is classified into sixteen different regions and, in each region, the number of interior equilibria is determined and the corresponding bifurcation diagrams on the Allee threshold are given. The extinction parameter regions of at least one species and the necessary coexistence parameter regions of all three species are provided. In addition, we explore possible dynamical patterns, i.e., the existence of multiple attractors. By theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, we show that the model can have one (i.e. extinction of all species), two (i.e. bi-stability) or three (i.e. tri-stability) attractors. It is also found by simulations that when there exists a unique stable interior equilibrium, the model may generate multiple attracting periodic orbits and the coexistence of all three species is enhanced as the competition between the IG prey and IG predator for the basal resource is close to the Hopf bifurcation curve from below. Our results indicate that the intraguild predation food web model exhibits rich and complex dynamic behaviors and strong Allee effect in the basal prey increases the extinction risk of not only the basal prey but also the IG prey or/and IG predator.  相似文献

In this article, we study the population dynamics of a two-species discrete-time competition model where each species suffers from either predator saturation induced Allee effects and/or mate limitation induced Allee effects. We focus on the following two possible outcomes of the competition: 1. one species goes to extinction; 2. the system is permanent. Our results indicate that, even if one species’ intra-specific competition is less than its inter-specific competition, weak Allee effects induced by predation saturation can promote coexistence of the two competing species. This is supported by the outcome of two-species competition models without Allee effects. Also, we discuss our results and future work on multiple attractors in competition models with Allee effects.  相似文献

We study a model of three interacting species in a food chain composed by a prey, an specific predator and a generalist predator. The capture of the prey by the specific predator is modelled as a modified Holling-type II non-differentiable functional response. The other predatory interactions are both modelled as Holling-type I. Moreover, our model follows a Leslie-Gower approach, in which the function that models the growth of each predator is of logistic type, and the corresponding carrying capacities depend on the sizes of their associated available preys. The resulting model has the form of a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which includes a non-differentiable term. By means of topological equivalences and suitable changes of parameters, we find that there exists an Allee threshold for the survival of the prey population in the food chain, given, effectively, as a critical level for the generalist predator. The dynamics of the model is studied with analytical and computational tools for bifurcation theory. We present two-parameter bifurcation diagrams that contain both local phenomena (Hopf, saddle-node transcritical, cusp, Bogdanov-Takens bifurcations) and global events (homoclinic and heteroclinic connections). In particular, we find that two types of heteroclinic cycles can be formed, both of them containing connections to the origin. One of these cycles is planar involving the absence of the specific predator. In turn, the other heteroclinic cycle is formed by connections in the full three-dimensional phase space.

In this paper, the Allee effect is incorporated into a predator–prey model with Holling type II functional response. Compared with the predator–prey model without Allee effect, we find that the Allee effect of prey species increases the extinction risk of both predators and prey. When the handling time of predators is relatively short and the Allee effect of prey species becomes strong, both predators and prey may become extinct. Moreover, it is shown that the model with Allee effect undergoes the Hopf bifurcation and heteroclinic bifurcation. The Allee effect of prey species can lead to unstable periodical oscillation. It is also found that the positive equilibrium of the model could change from stable to unstable, and then to stable when the strength of Allee effect or the handling time of predators increases continuously from zero, that is, the model admits stability switches as a parameter changes. When the Allee effect of prey species becomes strong, longer handling time of predators may stabilize the coexistent steady state.  相似文献

The paper explores an eco-epidemiological model with weak Allee in predator, and the disease in the prey population. We consider a predator-prey model with type II functional response. The curiosity of this paper is to consider different competition coefficients within the prey population, which leads to the emergent carrying capacity. We perform the local and global stability analysis of the equilibrium points and the Hopf bifurcation analysis around the endemic equilibrium point. Further we pay attention to the chaotic dynamics which is produced by disease. Our numerical simulations reveal that the three species eco-epidemiological system without weak-Allee induced chaos from stable focus for increasing the force of infection, whereas in the presence of the weak-Allee effect, it exhibits stable solution. We conclude that chaotic dynamics can be controlled by the Allee parameter as well as the competition coefficients. We apply basic tools of non-linear dynamics such as Poincare section and maximum Lyapunov exponent to identify chaotic behavior of the system.  相似文献

Intraguild predation is ubiquitous in many ecological communities. This paper is concerned with a stochastic three species prey-predator model with intraguild predation. The model involves a prey, an intermediate predator which preys on only prey and an omnivorous top predator which preys on both prey and intermediate predator. First, we show the existence of a unique positive global solution of the model. Then we mainly establish the sufficient conditions for the extinction and persistence in the mean of each population. Moreover, we show that the model is stable in distribution. Finally, some numerical simulations are given to illustrate the main results.  相似文献

A general seasonally-varying predator–prey model with Allee effect in the prey growth is investigated. The analysis is performed only on the basis of some properties determining the shape of the prey growth rate and the functional responses. General conditions for coexistence are determined, both in the case of weak and strong Allee effect. Finally, a modified Leslie–Gower predator–prey model with Allee effect is investigated. Numerical results illustrate the qualitative behaviors of the system, in particular the presence of periodic orbits.  相似文献

The most widely used functional response in describing predator–prey relationships is the Holling type II functional response, where per capita predation is a smooth, increasing, and saturating function of prey density. Beddington and DeAngelis modified the Holling type II response to include interference of predators that increases with predator density. Here we introduce a predator-interference term into a Holling type I functional response. We explain the ecological rationale for the response and note that the phase plane configuration of the predator and prey isoclines differs greatly from that of the Beddington–DeAngelis response; for example, in having three possible interior equilibria rather than one. In fact, this new functional response seems to be quite unique. We used analytical and numerical methods to show that the resulting system shows a much richer dynamical behavior than the Beddington–DeAngelis response, or other typically used functional responses. For example, cyclic-fold, saddle-fold, homoclinic saddle connection, and multiple crossing bifurcations can all occur. We then use a smooth approximation to the Holling type I functional response with predator mutual interference to show that these dynamical properties do not result from the lack of smoothness, but rather from subtle differences in the functional responses.  相似文献

In this paper, spatial dynamics of a diffusive predator-prey model with Leslie-Gower functional response and strong Allee effect is studied. Firstly, we obtain the critical condition of Hopf bifurcation and Turing bifurcation of the PDE model. Secondly, taking self-diffusion coefficient of the prey as bi- furcation parameter, the amplitude equations are derived by using multi-scale analysis methods. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out to verify our theoretical results. The simulations show that with the decrease of self- diffusion coefficient of the prey, the preys present three pattern structures: spot pattern, mixed pattern, and stripe pattern. We also observe the transi- tion from spot patterns to stripe patterns of the prey by changing the intrinsic growth rate of the predator. Our results reveal that both diffusion and the intrinsic growth rate play important roles in the spatial distribution of species.  相似文献

The complex dynamics of a two-trophic chain are investigated. The chain is described by a general predator–prey system, in which the prey growth rate and the trophic interaction functions are defined only by some properties determining their shapes. To account for undercrowding phenomena, the prey growth function is assumed to model a strong Allee effect; to simulate the predator interference during the predation process, the trophic function is assumed predator-dependent. A stability analysis of the system is performed, using the predation efficiency and a measure of the predator interference as bifurcation parameters. The admissible scenarios are much richer than in the case of prey-dependent trophic functions, investigated in Buffoni et al. (2011). General conditions for the number of equilibria, for the existence and stability of extinction and coexistence equilibrium states are determined, and the bifurcations exhibited by the system are investigated. Numerical results illustrate the qualitative behaviours of the system, in particular the presence of limit cycles, of global bifurcations and of bistability situations.  相似文献

The local dynamics of a two-trophic chain in the presence of both overcrowding and undercrowding effects on prey growth is investigated. The starting point is given by a general predator–prey system, in which the prey growth rate and the trophic interaction function are defined only by some properties determining their shapes; in particular, the prey growth function is assumed to model a strong Allee effect. A stability analysis of the system using the predation efficiency as bifurcation parameter is performed; conditions for the existence and stability of extinction and coexistence equilibrium states are determined, and peculiar features of the dynamics exhibited by the system are presented, with particular attention to limit cycles and bistability situations. Results are compared with those obtained when overcrowding and undercrowding effects are considered separately.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a bioeconomic differential algebraic predator–prey model with Holling type II functional response and nonlinear prey harvesting. As the nonlinear prey harvesting is introduced, the proposed model displays a complex dynamics in the predator–prey plane. Taking into account of the economic factor, our predator–prey system is established by bioeconomic differential algebraic equations. The effect of economic profit on the proposed model is analyzed by viewing it as a bifurcation parameter. By jointly using the normal form of differential algebraic models and the bifurcation theory, the stability and bifurcations (singularity induced bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation) are discussed. These results obtained here reveal richer dynamics of the bioeconomic differential algebraic predator–prey model with nonlinear prey harvesting, and suggest a guidance for harvesting in the practical word. Finally, numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the results.  相似文献

The goal of this work is to examine the global behavior of a Gause‐type predator–prey model in which two aspects have been taken into account: (i) the functional response is Holling type III; and (ii) the prey growth is affected by a weak Allee effect. Here, it is proved that the origin of the system is a saddle point and the existence of two limit cycles surround a stable positive equilibrium point: the innermost unstable and the outermost stable, just like with the strong Allee effect. Then, for determined parameter constraints, the trajectories can have different ω ? limit sets. The coexistence of a stable limit cycle and a stable positive equilibrium point is an important fact for ecologists to be aware of the kind of bistability shown here. So, these models are undoubtedly rather sensitive to disturbances and require careful management in applied contexts of conservation and fisheries. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the complex dynamics induced by Allee effect in a predator–prey model. For the non-spatial model, Allee effect remains the boundedness of positive solutions, and it also induces the model to exhibit one or two positive equilibria. Especially, in the case with strong Allee effect, the model is bistable. For the spatial model, without Allee effect, there is the nonexistence of diffusion-driven instability. And in the case with Allee effect, the positive equilibrium can be unstable under certain conditions. This instability is induced by Allee effect and diffusion together. Furthermore, via numerical simulations, the model dynamics exhibits both Allee effect and diffusion controlled pattern formation growth to holes, stripe–hole mixtures, stripes, stripe–spot mixtures, and spots replication. That is to say, the dynamics of the model with Allee effect is not simple, but rich and complex.  相似文献

To understand the influence of fear effect on population dynamics, especially for the populations with obvious stage structure characteristics, we propose and investigate a diffusive prey-predator model with stage structure in predators. First, we discuss the existence and stability of equilibrium of the model in the absence of diffusion. Then, we obtain the critical conditions for Hopf and Turing bifurcations. Some numerical simulations are also carried out to verify our theoretical results, which indicate that the fear can induce the prey population to show five pattern structures: cold-spot pattern, mixed pattern with cold spots and stripes, stripes pattern, hot-spot pattern, mixed pattern with hot spots and stripes. These findings imply that the fear effect induced by the mature predators plays an important role in the spatial distribution of species.  相似文献
