The phase diagram of a two-dimensional electron system in a strong magnetic field is studied in the Hartree-Fock approximation. Special attention is paid to the consequences of the electron-hole symmetry in the system. When the ground Landau level is half-filled, the high-temperature gaseous phase undergoes a second-order transition to a square CDW with a period dependent on temperature. This transition preserves the electron-hole symmetry in the sense that the square CDW is self-dual in contrast to a triangular CDW where the dual CDW has a honeycomb pattern. If the density is slightly less than the half-filled case, the gaseous phase first undergoes a first-order transition to a triangular CDW, followed by another first-order transition to a square CDW. We discuss the role of quantum effects which are responsible for this unusual phase diagram.  相似文献

We derive a pair approximation (PA) for the NO+CO model with instantaneous reactions. For both the triangular and square lattices, the PA, derived here using a simpler approach, yields a phase diagram with an active state for CO-fractions y in the interval y(1)相似文献

We investigate the phenomena of spontaneous symmetry breaking for φ4 model on a square lattice in the parameter space by using the potential importance sampling method, which was proposed by Milchev, Heermann, and Binder [J. Stat. Phys. 44 (1986) 749]. The critical values of the parameters allow us to determine the phase diagram of the model. At the same time, some relevant quantities such as susceptibility and specific heat are also obtained.  相似文献

We revisit the phase diagram of Rokhsar-Kivelson models, which are used in fields such as superconductivity, frustrated magnetism, cold bosons, and the physics of Josephson junction arrays. From an extended height effective theory, we show that one of two simple generic phase diagrams contains a mixed phase that interpolates continuously between columnar and plaquette states. For the square lattice quantum dimer model we present evidence from exact diagonalization and Green's function Monte Carlo techniques that this scenario is realized, by combining an analysis of the excitation gaps of different symmetry sectors with information on plaquette structure factors. This presents a natural framework for resolving the disagreement between previous studies.  相似文献

We study a new variant of electroconvection using a homeotropically aligned nematic liquid crystal. The novelty of this system is a direct transition to roll- or square-type patterns controlled by the frequency of the applied voltage with a rich crossover scenario and strong influence of the zigzag instability even at onset. From the weakly nonlinear theory and simulations of an adapted Swift-Hohenberg model one can understand essential features of the phase diagram. In particular we find a quasiperiodic pattern with square symmetry.  相似文献

We present the full phase diagram of the spherical 2 + p spin-glass model with p > or = 4. The main outcome is the presence of a phase with both properties of full replica symmetry breaking phases of discrete models, e.g., the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model, and those of one replica symmetry breaking. This phase has a finite complexity which leads to different dynamic and static properties. The phase diagram is rich enough to allow the study of different kinds of glass to spin glass and spin glass to spin glass phase transitions.  相似文献

We present a detailed study of the extended Hubbard-Peierls model on a square lattice using the slave-boson method proposed by Kotliar and Ruckenstein. The emphasis is on the investigation of the ground state phase diagram. To compare the relative stability of several homogenous phases, the effective bosonized action was evaluated by means of a two-sublattice saddlepoint approximation which allows for the symmetry broken states compatible with the underlying bipartite lattice structure. Paying particular attention to the interplay of electron-electron and electron-phonon interaction, we take into account various types of magnetic ordered phases, i.e. para-, ferro-, ferri-, and antiferromagnetic states, as well as charge ordered phases, e.g. a static (, ) Peierls distorted state. Furthermore the approach has been applied to the following special cases: the Hubbard model, the extended Hubbard model, and the Hubbard-Peierls model. A careful numerical solution of the corresponding self-consistency equations enables us to map out the ground-state phase diagrams of the various models at arbitrary band filling over the whole range of interaction strength. In the phase diagram of the Hubbard model we found a large region with ferrimagnetic order away from half-filling. The phase diagram of the halffilled band extended Hubbard model shows a first-order transition from a spin-density-wave to a charge-density-wave state which is displaced from the mean-field lineU=4V towards largerV. At large negativeU andV we obtain a domain with charge separation. The phase compares favorably with earlier quantum Monte-Carlo results. Including the local electron-phonon coupling the charge-density-wave region is considerably enlarged. Away from half-filling the phase diagram becomes more complex: besides the pure magnetic phases we obtain ferri- and paramagnetic states which show additional charge-density order. Aspects of phase separation are discussed. Finally we investigate the variation of the different gap and order parameters along characteristic lines in the parameter space and determine the renormalized quasiparticle bands.  相似文献

We study quantum phase transitions in the easy-plane spin-one Heisenberg model on a zigzag square lattice with next-nearest-neighbor interactions at zero temperature using the SU(3) Schwinger boson formalism in a mean field approximation. We present the phase diagram and the dispersion relation for several values of the parameters. A magnetically disordered region in the phase diagram is found, even when the anisotropy parameter vanishes.  相似文献

We study the phase diagram of the half-filled one-dimensional extended Hubbard model at weak coupling using a novel functional renormalization group (FRG) approach. The FRG method includes in a systematic manner the effects of the scattering processes involving electrons away from the Fermi points. Our results confirm the existence of a finite region of bond charge density wave, also known as a "bond order wave" near U=2V and clarify why earlier g-ology calculations have not found this phase. We argue that this is an example in which formally irrelevant corrections change the topology of the phase diagram. Whenever marginal terms lead to an accidental symmetry, this generalized FRG method may be crucial to characterize the phase diagram accurately.  相似文献

In the present work we study the critical properties of the ferromagnetic three-color Ashkin-Teller model (3AT) by means of a Migdal-Kadanoff renormalization group approach on a diamond-like hierarchical lattice. The analysis of the fixed points and flux diagram of the recursion relations is used to determine the corresponding phase diagram (including its symmetry properties) and critical exponents. Our numerical results show the presence of four universality classes, three of them are associated to the Potts model with q=2, 4 and 6 states. Finally, a connection between our findings and some known results from the literature is presented.  相似文献

We study the phase diagram of a two-dimensional random tiling model for quasicrystals. At proper concentrations the model has 8-fold rotational symmetry. Landau theory correctly gives most of the qualitative features of the phase diagram, which is in turn studied in detail numerically using a transfer matrix approach. We find that the system can enter the quasicrystal phase from many other crystalline and incommensurate phases through first-order or continuous transitions. Exact solutions are given in all phases except for the quasicrystal phase, and for the phase boundaries between them. We calculate numerically the phason elastic constants and entropy density, and confirm that the entropy density reaches its maximum at the point where phason strains are zero and the system possesses 8-fold rotational symmetry. In addition to the obvious application to quasicrystals, this study generalizes certain surface roughening models to two-dimensional surfaces in four dimensions.  相似文献

We study Heisenberg antiferromagnets with nearest- (J1) and third- (J3) neighbor exchange on the square lattice. In the limit of spin S-->infinity, there is a zero temperature (T) Lifshitz point at J(3)=1/4J(1), with long-range spiral spin order at T=0 for J3>1/4J(1). We present classical Monte Carlo simulations and a theory for T>0 crossovers near the Lifshitz point: spin rotation symmetry is restored at any T>0, but there is a broken lattice reflection symmetry for 0< or =T相似文献

Recently the revised phase diagram of the (large N) Gross-Neveu model in 1 + 1 dimensions with discrete chiral symmetry has been determined numerically. It features three phases, a massless and a massive Fermi gas and a kink-antikink crystal. Here we investigate the phase diagram by analytical means, mapping the Dirac-Hartree-Fock equation onto the non-relativistic Schrödinger equation with the (single gap) Lamé potential. It is pointed out that mathematically identical phase diagrams appeared in the condensed matter literature some time ago in the context of the Peierls-Fröhlich model and ferromagnetic superconductors.  相似文献

We investigate inhomogeneous chiral symmetry breaking phases in the phase diagram of the two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, concentrating on phases with one-dimensional modulations. It is found that the first-order transition line in the phase diagram of homogeneous phases gets completely covered by an inhomogeneous phase which is bordered by second-order transition lines. The inhomogeneous phase turns out to be remarkably stable when vector interactions are included.  相似文献

We determine the finite-temperature phase diagram of the square lattice hard-core boson Hubbard model with nearest neighbor repulsion using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. This model is equivalent to an anisotropic spin-1/2 XXZ model in a magnetic field. We present the rich phase diagram with a first order transition between a solid and superfluid phase, instead of a previously conjectured supersolid and a tricritical end point to phase separation. Unusual reentrant behavior with ordering upon increasing the temperature is found, similar to the Pomeranchuk effect in 3He.  相似文献

Using methods of integrable systems and conformal field theory, we study the Q-state Potts model on the square lattice with eK real. We discover a surprisingly rich phase diagram that involves, besides the usual ferromagnetic critical line, an antiferromagnetic critical line and a Berker-Kadanoff phase (i.e., a massless low-temperature phase with coupling-independent exponents) that has singularities at the Baraha numbers (including Q integer) Q = 4cos2π/n. Critical properties are derived; we show in particular that the Q = 4cos2π/δ antiferromagnetic critical Potts model is in the “Zδ−2” universality class with c = 2−6/δ. Extensions to other lattices are considered. We discuss the consequences of our results on the coloring problem and the Beraha conjecture. Three appendices deal with the geometrical interpretation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra and Uqsl(2) symmetry in the Potts and associated loops model, and with the vertex-Potts model correspondence in systems with free boundary conditions.  相似文献

We present results from particle simulations with isotropic medium range interactions in two dimensions. At low temperature novel types of aggregated structures appear. We show that these structures can be explained by spontaneous symmetry breaking in analytic solutions to an adaptation of the spherical spin model. We predict the critical particle number where the symmetry breaking occurs and show that the resulting phase diagram agrees well with results from particle simulations.  相似文献

The spin-1 Blume–Capel model on a square lattice is studied by using an effective-field theory (EFT) with correlation. We propose an expression for the free energy within the EFT. The phase diagram is constructed in the temperature (T) and single-ion anisotropy amplitude (D) plane. The first-order transition line is obtained by Maxwell construction (comparison between free energies). Our results predict first-order transitions at low temperatures and large anisotropy strengths, which correspond in the phase diagram to the existence of a tricritical point (TCP). We compare our results with mean-field approximation (MFA), that show a qualitative correct behavior for the phase diagram.  相似文献

The stability of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model is reconsidered, pointing out that the de Almeida-Thouless line from the phase diagram does not imply the replica symmetry breaking at the zero magnetic field.  相似文献
