Let the dominos fall : Synthesis of the complex DFGH ring system of the title compounds has been accomplished. The approach features simple treatment of the key intermediate with a Brønsted base to afford the tetracyclic cage‐shaped target in one pot through a four‐step domino transformation (see scheme; Mc= monochloromesylate, MOM=methoxymethyl).

Cooperative metal centers in a bimetallic catalyst facilitate the highly enantioselective ring opening of meso aziridines 1 with silyl nucleophiles (see scheme; TMS=trimethylsilyl). The 1,2‐azidoamides 2 and 1,2‐amidonitriles 3 obtained in this way in high yields and with up to 99 % ee are valuable precursors to enantiomerically pure 1,2‐diamines and β‐amino acids.

Shine your light : Recent work in photocrystallography demonstrates a large photoinduced increase in the magnetic susceptibility of a solid, which is accompanied by significant changes in the bond lengths of the Nd? NC? Fe moiety (see picture; black are ground‐state bond lengths in Å, red are photoinduced bond lengths).

Nice coat! Organically modified silica (ormosil) is used for the ultrathin nanoprecise coating of individual multiwall carbon nanotubes using a soft‐chemistry approach. The coating layer has a uniform thickness of about 3 nm. The ormosil coating demonstrates the favorable electrical insulating properties of individual multiwall carbon nanotubes.

The reactions of fluorosulfonylurea derivatives with phosphorus pentachloride in carbon tetrachloride leads to and . These compounds are easily fluroinated by arsenic trifluoride to the corresponding fluorosulfonyl derivatives. It was shown that PCl5 is reliable for the fluorine-chlorine exchange. Isocyanate esterchlorides as well as carbonyl-fluoride derivatives react with compounds which have an active hydrogen atom. By this way were prepared: . By hydrolysis of , is probably formed as the first reaction product. The acid could be trapped with tetraphenylphosphoniumchloride as a well-cristalline salt. Fluorosulfonyl isocyanate reacts with aldehydes to the following compounds: FSO2N ? CHCH3, FSO2N ? CHC2H5, FSO2N ? CH? CH(CH3)2 and FSO2N ? CHC6H5. The physical and chemical properties as well as IR and NMR spectra of the compounds are described and, in part, compared and discussed.  相似文献

Electron by electron : β‐Diketiminato nickel(I) complex fragments are capable of activating N2 through coordination. The resulting complex can be reduced in two single‐electron steps, which further activates the N? N bond. The picture shows the structure of the singly reduced complex with μ‐η11‐bound N2.

Layer‐by‐layer (LBL) films consisting of layers of the azo dye Sunset Yellow alternated with chitosan display spontaneous birefringence, which is attributed to the film anisotropy imparted by the LBL method. This is unusual for azobenzene‐containing materials as they normally form films with randomly oriented molecules, presenting birefringence only due to photoinduced isomerization cycles. Spontaneous birefringence does not appear in cast films, but occurs for LBL films obtained under various experimental conditions.

Ihre Bandlücken und Lumineszenzeigenschaften verändern sich mit der Defektkonzentration in den ZnO‐Nanopartikeln. Diese Konzentration hängt vom molaren Mg/Zn‐Verhältnis ab (siehe Bild).

Hooking up : FeCl2 catalyzes the efficient cross dehydrogenative arylation of substrates having benzylic C? H bonds (see scheme). High regioselectivity was observed during the cross‐coupling between compounds containing aromatic C(sp2)? H bonds and benzylic C(sp3)? H bonds. This process is proposed to proceed by single‐electron‐transfer oxidation and Friedel–Crafts alkylation.

What's the matter? The laboratory Raman spectra for carbonic acid (H2CO3), both for the β‐polymorph and its amorphous state, are required to detect carbonic acid on the surface of the pole caps of Mars in 2009, when the Mars Microbeam Raman Spectrometer lands on the planet. Linked to the Pentagon : The addition of molybdate to [HBW11O39]8? ions leads to the formation of mixed pentagonal units {W(Mo5)} and {W(WMo4)} trapped as linkers in the resulting modular assemblies, thus establishing the first link between the conventional Keggin ion derivatives and the giant molybdenum oxide and keplerate ions.
