The center of it all : An antitumor‐active trinuclear platinum complex forms unprecedented interstrand cross‐linked triadducts with 18‐mer DNA duplexes (see figure; complex in yellow with the platinum centers in red) and behaves differently from its dinuclear analogue.

Please recycle! An amphiphilic polystyrene‐poly(ethylene glycol) resin‐dispersion of nanoparticles of platinum (ARP‐Pt) is developed, with the nanoparticles exhibiting a narrow size distribution throughout the resin. ARP‐Pt offers a sustainable chemistry alternative as a useful and readily recyclable catalyst for the aerobic oxidation of a wide variety of alcohols.

A facile, self‐seeded , solution–liquid–solid growth of soluble InP and GaP nanowires with a very low amount of native point defects with respect to the carrier concentrations have been synthesized (see scheme) and characterized. They are potentially promising building blocks in optoelectronic applications.

Three orientations to choose from : 2D hexagonal organically functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles with tunable mesochannel orientation (straight, helical, and radial mesochannels) were synthesized through a simple addition of various amounts of ureidopropyltrimethoxylsilane (UDPTMS) in the condensation of tetraorthosilicate (TEOS) in aqueous solution.

By taking advantage of “click” chemistry's chemoselective nature, a new platform of bifunctional AB2C dendrimers, having acetylene/azide groups anchored within the interior and hydroxy groups on the periphery, has been realized. In their Communication on page 2126 ff. M. Malkoch and co‐workers reveal a simple synthetic route for two sets of frameworks. To illustrate the utility of AB2C dendrimers they were used in a one‐pot postfunctionalization protocol, in the development of dendritic nanoparticles, and in the formation of hydrogels.

Assembly language : The programmed sequences of stereochemical building blocks lead to novel biomimetic helices. The rational design approach offers new possibilities for creating periodic secondary structures.

Osmabenzenes can be easily synthesized from two η2‐coordinated olefin osmacycles in the presence of benzonitrile by means of facile hydrogen‐transfer conversions (see graphic). Mechanisms for the formation of osmabenzenes are proposed based on DFT calculations.

Brrrr! Cold molecule and cold atom research are juxtaposed and the challenges in cooling and trapping molecules are recounted. Both indirect and direct techniques of producing cold and slow molecules (such as buffer‐gas cooling and magnetic trapping, see picture) are described. Advanced techniques of manipulating cold or slow molecules are reviewed and ongoing work with cold molecules is outlined.

Imprinted materials : Monosilylated derivatives of melamine and cyanuric acid are used in the preparation of hybrid silica. The assembly of the melamine and cyanuric acid moieties through molecular recognition properties is the key factor in building a bridged silsesquioxane and an imprinted hybrid silica (see picture).

The oriented attachment (OA) mechanism has been investigated as an important process in the formation of anisotropic nanostructures such as depicted. The results showed that the control of a desired phase in this system may be attained by the control of OA mechanism through pH value, obtaining several morphologies.

Extreme makeover of cholesterol : Cholesterol exchange is a major reason for the instability of liposomes in blood. The formation of a covalent hybrid between cholesterol and glycerophosphocholine preserves the bilayer‐stabilizing effect of free cholesterol but prevents its transfer from the bilayer. Thus, disterolphospholipids (e.g. 1 ) are valuable new components for liposome formulation.

Lithium makes the difference : A simple strategy for the synthesis of lithium‐doped porous metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is developed (see structure; C black, O red, AlO6 blue octahedra), thus paving the way for the facile preparation of lithium‐doped MOFs. Moreover, the significant increase in hydrogen adsorption predicted by theoretical calculations is observed.
