The eigenvalue bounds of interval matrices are often required in some mechanical and engineering fields. In this paper, we consider an interval eigenvalue problem with symmetric tridiagonal matrices. A theoretical result is obtained that under certain assumptions the upper and lower bounds of interval eigenvalues of the problem must be achieved just at some vertex matrices of the interval matrix. Then a sufficient condition is provided to guarantee the assumption to be satisfied. The conclusion is illustrated also by a numerical example. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Using an approach of Bergh, we give an alternate proof of Bennett's result on lower bounds for non-negative matrices acting on non-increasing non-negative sequences in lp when p?1 and its dual version, the upper bounds when 0<p?1. In this paper, we obtain lower and upper bounds for the entries of the inverses of diagonally dominant tridiagonal matrices. First of all we derive the bounds for off-diagonal elements of the inverse as a function of the diagonal ones, then we improve the two-sided bounds for the diagonal entries obtaining sharper lower and upper bounds for all the elements of the inverse.  相似文献

Using a unified approach based on the monotonicity property of the Perron root and its circuit extension, a series of exact two-sided bounds for the Perron root of a nonnegative matrix in terms of paths in the associated directed graph is obtained. A method for deriving the so-called mixed upper bounds is suggested. Based on the upper bounds for the Perron root, new diagonal dominance type conditions for matrices are introduced. The singularity/nonsingularity problem for matrices satisfying such conditions is analyzed, and the associated eigenvalue inclusion sets are presented. In particular, a bridge connecting Gerschgorin disks with Brualdi eigenvalue inclusion sets is found. Extensions to matrices partitioned into blocks are proposed.  相似文献

Randomized algorithms play a central role in low rank approximations of large matrices. In this paper, the scheme of the randomized SVD is extended to a randomized LU algorithm. Several error bounds are introduced, that are based on recent results from random matrix theory related to subgaussian matrices. The bounds also improve the existing bounds of already known randomized SVD algorithm. The algorithm is fully parallelized and thus can utilize efficiently GPUs without any CPU–GPU data transfer. Numerical examples, which illustrate the performance of the algorithm and compare it to other decomposition methods, are presented.  相似文献

New accurate eigenvalue bounds for symmetric matrices of saddle point form are derived and applied for both unpreconditioned and preconditioned versions of the matrices. The estimates enable a better understanding of how preconditioners should be chosen. The preconditioners provide efficient iterative solution of the corresponding linear systems with, for some important applications, an optimal order of computational complexity. Componentwise error analysis for a modification of the cyclic reduction without back substitution for a tridiagonal system is presented. We consider relative roundoff errors and equivalent perturbations, so the main supposition is that all the data is nonzero. First, backward analysis for the computation of each component of the solution in separate is presented. Bounds on the relative equivalent perturbations are obtained depending on two constants. From these bounds it is easy to obtain a componentwise forward error analysis. Then the two constants are defined for some special classes of matrices, i.e. diagonally dominant (row or column), symmetric positive definite, totally nonnegative andM-matrices, and it is shown that the bounds for these classes of matrices are small.The author was supported by Grants MM-211/92 and MM-434/94 from the National Scientific Research Fund of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science.  相似文献

A weighing matrix of order n and weight m2 is a square matrix M of order n with entries from {-1,0,+1} such that MMT=m2I where I is the identity matrix of order n. If M is a group matrix constructed using a group of order n, M is called a group weighing matrix. Recently, group weighing matrices were studied intensively, especially when the groups are cyclic and abelian. In this paper, we study the abelian group weighing matrices that are symmetric, i.e.MT=M. Some new examples are found. Also we obtain a few exponent bounds on abelian groups that admit symmetric group weighing matrices. In particular, we prove that there is no symmetric abelian group weighing matrices of order 2pr and weight p2 where p is a prime and p≥ 5.Communicated by: K.T. Arasu  相似文献

This is a lecture note of my joint work with Chi-Kwong Li concerning various results on the norm structure of n x n matrices (as Hilbert-space operators). The main result says that the triangle inequality serves as the ultimate norm estimate for the upper bounds of summation of two matrices.In the case of summation of two normal matrices, the result turns out to be a norm estimate in terms of the spectral variation for normal matrices.  相似文献

A linear operator in a separable Hilbert space is called a quasinormal one if it is a sum of a normal operator and a compact one. In the paper, bounds for the spectrum of quasinormal operators are established. In addition, the lower estimate for the spectral radius is derived. Under some restrictions, that estimate improves the well-known results. Applications to integral operators and matrices are discussed. Our results are new even in the finite-dimensional case.

A necessary and sufficient condition to determine the complete positivity of a matrixwith a particular graph, in dependence of complete positivity of smaller matrices, is given. Under some singularity assumptions, this condition furnishes a characterization for completely positive matrices with a “non-crossing cycle” as associated graph.
