We present relations between Hirota-type bilinear operators, scalar products on spaces of symmetric functions, and integrals defining matrix-model partition functions. Using the fermionic Fock space representation, we prove an expansion of an associated class of KP and 2-Toda tau functions r,n in a series of Schur functions generalizing the hypergeometric series and relate it to the scalar product formulas. We show how special cases of such tau functions can be identified as formal series for partition functions. A closed form expansion of log r,n in terms of Schur functions is derived.  相似文献

In this paper, motivated by certain recent extensions of the Euler’s beta, Gauss’ hypergeometric and confluent hypergeometric functions (see [4]), we extend the Srivastava’s triple hypergeometric function H A by making use of two additional parameters in the integrand. Systematic investigation of its properties including, among others, various integral representations of Euler and Laplace type, Mellin transforms, Laguerre polynomial representation, transformation formulas and a recurrence relation, is presented. Also, by virtue of Luke’s bounds for hypergeometric functions and various bounds upon the Bessel functions appearing in the kernels of the newly established integral representations, we deduce a set of bounding inequalities for the extended Srivastava’s triple hypergeometric function H A,p,q .  相似文献

Univariate specializations of Appell's hypergeometric functions F1, F2, F3, F4 satisfy ordinary Fuchsian equations of order at most 4. In special cases, these differential equations are of order 2 and could be simple (pullback) transformations of Euler's differential equation for the Gauss hypergeometric function. The paper classifies these cases, and presents corresponding relations between univariate specializations of Appell's functions and univariate hypergeometric functions. The computational aspect and interesting identities are discussed.  相似文献

T. Gneiting (1998, J. Multivariate Analysis64, 131–147) proved a relation between the primitives of the classes Φd(2) and Φd(1) of 2- and 1-symmetric characteristic functions on d, respectively. We will give a straightforward proof of his relation, answering a question of his. To do this we use the calculus of generalized hypergeometric functions.  相似文献

The Appell function F 1 (i.e., a generalized hypergeometric function of two complex variables) and a corresponding system of partial differential equations are considered in the logarithmic case when the parameters of F 1 are related in a special way. Formulas for the analytic continuation of F 1 beyond the unit bicircle are constructed in which F 1 is determined by a double hypergeometric series. For the indicated system of equations, a collection of canonical solutions are presented that are two-dimensional analogues of Kummer solutions well known in the theory of the classical Gauss hypergeometric equation. In the logarithmic case, the canonical solutions are written as generalized hypergeometric series of new form. The continuation formulas are derived using representations of F 1 in the form of Barnes contour integrals. The resulting formulas make it possible to efficiently calculate the Appell function in the entire range of its variables. The results of this work find a number of applications, including the problem of parameters of the Schwarz–Christoffel integral.  相似文献

Let X 1, X 2, ... be a sequence obtained by Polya's urn scheme. We consider a waiting time problem for the first occurrence of a pattern in the sequence X 1, X 2, ... , which is generalized by a notion score. The main part of our results is derived by the method of generalized probability generating functions. In Polya's urn scheme, the system of equations is composed of the infinite conditional probability generating functions, which can not be solved. Then, we present a new methodology to obtain the truncated probability generating function in a series up to an arbitrary order from the system of infinite equations. Numerical examples are also given in order to illustrate the feasibility of our results. Our results in this paper are not only new but also a first attempt to treat the system of infinite equations.  相似文献

Uniform asymptotic representations for the zeros of the Whittaker functions M ,(z) and W ,(z) are derived from well-known uniform asymptotic expansions. The approximation formulas involve the zeros of Bessel or Airy functions.  相似文献

We prove a master theorem for hypergeometric functions of Karlsson–Minton type, stating that a very general multilateral U(n) Karlsson–Minton-type hypergeometric series may be reduced to a finite sum. This identity contains the Karlsson–Minton summation formula and many of its known generalizations as special cases, and it also implies several Bailey-type identities for U(n) hypergeometric series, including multivariable 10W9 transformations of Denis and Gustafson and of Kajihara. Even in the one-variable case our identity is new, and even in this case its proof depends on the theory of multivariable hypergeometric series.  相似文献

In a recent paper, Ono and Penniston proved a family of congruences for 3 F 2 hypergeometric functions over finite fields. They use the relationship between these functions and the arithmetic of a certain family of elliptic curves to obtain their congruences. Here we prove analogous congruences for 2 F 1 hypergeometric functions.  相似文献

The irreducible -representations of the Lie algebra consist of discrete series representations, principal unitary series and complementary series. We calculate Racah coefficients for tensor product representations that consist of at least two discrete series representations. We use the explicit expressions for the Clebsch–Gordan coefficients as hypergeometric functions to find explicit expressions for the Racah coefficients. The Racah coefficients are Wilson polynomials and Wilson functions. This leads to natural interpretations of the Wilson function transforms. As an application several sum and integral identities are obtained involving Wilson polynomials and Wilson functions. We also compute Racah coefficients for , which turn out to be Askey–Wilson functions and Askey–Wilson polynomials. This research was done during my stay at the Department of Mathematics at Chalmers University of Technology and Göteborg University in Sweden, supported by a NWO-TALENT stipendium of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).  相似文献

Integral representations are considered of solutions of the Airy differential equation w zw=0 for computing Airy functions for complex values of z. In a first method contour integral representations of the Airy functions are written as non-oscillating integrals for obtaining stable representations, which are evaluated by the trapezoidal rule. In a second method an integral representation is evaluated by using generalized Gauss–Laguerre quadrature; this approach provides a fast method for computing Airy functions to a predetermined accuracy. Comparisons are made with well-known algorithms of Amos, designed for computing Bessel functions of complex argument. Several discrepancies with Amos' code are detected, and it is pointed out for which regions of the complex plane Amos' code is less accurate than the quadrature algorithms. Hints are given in order to build reliable software for complex Airy functions.  相似文献

We shall study the differential equation y'~2= T_n(y)-(1-2μ~2);where μ~2 is a constant, T_n(x) are the Chebyshev polynomials with n = 3, 4, 6.The solutions of the differential equations will be expressed explicitly in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic function which can be used to construct theories of elliptic functions based on _2F_1(1/4, 3/4; 1; z),_2F_1(1/3, 2/3; 1; z), _2F_1(1/6, 5/6; 1; z) and provide a unified approach to a set of identities of Ramanujan involving these hypergeometric functions.  相似文献

In many seemingly diverse areas of applications, reduction, summation, and transformation formulas for various families of hypergeometric functions in one, two, and more variables are potentially useful, especially in situations when these hypergeometric functions are involved in solutions of mathematical, physical, and engineering problems that can be modeled by (for example) ordinary and partial differential equations. The main object of this article is to investigate a number of reductions and transformations for the Appell functions F1,F2,F3, and F4 in two variables and the corresponding (substantially more general) double‐series identities. In particular, we observe that a certain reduction formula for the Appell function F3 derived recently by Prajapati et al., together with other related results, were obtained more than four decades earlier by Srivastava. We give a new simple derivation of the previously mentioned Srivastava's formula 12 . We also present a brief account of several other related results that are closely associated with the Appell and other higher‐order hypergeometric functions in two variables. Integral representations are considered of solutions of the inhomogeneous Airy differential equation . The solutions of these equations are also known as Scorer functions. Certain functional relations for these functions are used to confine the discussion to one function and to a certain sector in the complex plane. By using steepest descent methods from asymptotics, the standard integral representations of the Scorer functions are modified in order to obtain nonoscillating integrals for complex values of . In this way stable representations for numerical evaluations of the functions are obtained. The methods are illustrated with numerical results.

The tensor product of a positive and a negative discrete series representation of the quantum algebra Uq(su(1,1)) decomposes as a direct integral over the principal unitary series representations. Discrete terms can appear, and these terms are a finite number of discrete series representations, or one complementary series representation. From the interpretation as overlap coefficients of little q-Jacobi functions and Al-Salam and Chihara polynomials in base q and base q–1, two closely related bilinear summation formulas for the Al-Salam and Chihara polynomials are derived. The formulas involve Askey-Wilson polynomials, continuous dual q-Hahn polynomials and little q-Jacobi functions. The realization of the discrete series as q-difference operators on the spaces of holomorphic and anti-holomorphic functions, leads to a bilinear generating function for a certain type of 21-series, which can be considered as a special case of the dual transmutation kernel for little q-Jacobi functions.  相似文献

We prove the absolute monotonicity or complete monotonicity of some determinant functions whose entries involve
modified Bessel functions Iν, Kν, the confluent hypergeometric function Φ, and the Tricomi function Ψ. Our results recover and generalize some known determinantal inequalities. We also show that a certain determinant formed by the Fibonacci numbers are nonnegative while determinants involving Hermite polynomials of imaginary arguments are shown to be completely monotonic functions.  相似文献

We derive a duality formula for two-row Macdonald functions by studying their relation with basic hypergeometric functions. We introduce two parameter vertex operators to construct a family of symmetric functions generalizing Hall-Littlewood functions. Their relation with Macdonald functions is governed by a very well-poised q-hypergeometric functions of type 43, for which we obtain linear transformation formulas in terms of the Jacobi theta function and the q-Gamma function. The transformation formulas are then used to give the duality formula and a new formula for two-row Macdonald functions in terms of the vertex operators. The Jack polynomials are also treated accordingly.  相似文献
