We study linear response theory in the general framework of algebraic quantum statistical mechanics and prove the Green-Kubo formula and the Onsager reciprocity relations for heat fluxes generated by temperature differentials. Our derivation is axiomatic and the key assumptions concern ergodic properties of non-equilibrium steady states.  相似文献

The spin-fermion model describes a two level quantum system (spin 1/2) coupled to finitely many free Fermi gas reservoirs which are in thermal equilibrium at inverse temperatures β j . We consider non-equilibrium initial conditions where not all β j are the same. It is known that, at small coupling, the combined system has a unique non-equilibrium steady state (NESS) characterized by strictly sitive entropy production. In this paper we study linear response in this NESS and prove the Green-Kubo formula and the Onsager reciprocity relations for heat fluxes generated by temperature differentials. The regularized determinant of the Paneitz operator arises in quantum gravity [see Connes in (Noncommutative geometry, 1994), IV.4.γ]. An explicit formula for the relative determinant of two conformally related metrics was computed by Branson in (Commun Math Phys 178:301–309, 1996). A similar formula holds for Cheeger’s half-torsion, which plays a role in self-dual field theory [see Juhl in (Families of conformally covariant differential operators, q-curvature and holography. Progress in Mathematics, vol 275, 2009)], and is defined in terms of regularized determinants of the Hodge laplacian on p-forms (pn/2). In this article we show that the corresponding actions are unbounded (above and below) on any conformal four-manifold. We also show that the conformal class of the round sphere admits a second solution which is not given by the pull-back of the round metric by a conformal map, thus violating uniqueness up to gauge equivalence. These results differ from the properties of the determinant of the conformal Laplacian established in (Commun Math Phys 149:241–262, 1992), (Ann Math 142:171–212, 1995), (Commun Math Phys 189:655–665, 1997).  相似文献

Nonequilibrium statistical mechanics close to equilibrium is studied using SRB states and a formula [10] for their derivatives with respect to parameters. We write general expressions for the thermodynamic fluxes (or currents) and the transport coefficients, generalizing the results of [4, 5]. In previous work (Tracy and Widom in Commun. Math. Phys. 279:815–844, 2008) the authors found integral formulas for probabilities in the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) on the integer lattice ℤ. The dynamics are uniquely determined once the initial state is specified. In this note we restrict our attention to the case of step initial condition with particles at the positive integers ℤ+ and consider the distribution function for the mth particle from the left. In Tracy and Widom (Commun. Math. Phys. 279:815–844, 2008) an infinite series of multiple integrals was derived for the distribution. In this note we show that the series can be summed to give a single integral whose integrand involves a Fredholm determinant. We use this determinant representation to derive (non-rigorously, at this writing) a scaling limit.  相似文献

A universal quantum work relation is proved for isolated time-dependent Hamiltonian systems in a magnetic field as the consequence of microreversibility. This relation involves a functional of an arbitrary observable. The quantum Jarzynski equality is recovered in the case this observable vanishes. The Green-Kubo formula and the Casimir-Onsager reciprocity relations are deduced thereof in the linear response regime.  相似文献

Nonequilibrium statistical mechanics close to equilibrium is a physically satisfactory theory centered on the linear response formula of Green-Kubo. This formula results from a formal first order perturbation calculation without rigorous justification. A rigorous derivation of Fourier’s law for heat conduction from the laws of mechanics remains thus a major unsolved problem. In this note we present a deterministic mechanical model of a heat-conducting chain with nontrivial interactions, where kinetic energy fluctuations at the nodes of the chain are removed. In this model the derivation of Fourier’s law can proceed rigorously.  相似文献

We establish the exact dimensional property of an ergodic hyperbolic measure for a C 2 non-invertible but non-degenerate endomorphism on a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary. Based on this, we give a new formula of Lyapunov dimension of ergodic measures and show it coincides with the dimension of hyperbolic ergodic measures in a setting of random endomorphisms. Our results extend several well known theorems of Barreira et al. (Ann Math 149:755–783, 1999) and Ledrappier and Young [Commun Math Phys 117(4):529–548, 1988] for diffeomorphisms to the case of endomorphisms.  相似文献

We study a lattice sigma model which is expected to reflect the Anderson localization and delocalization transition for real symmetric band matrices in 3D. In this statistical mechanics model, the field takes values in a supermanifold based on the hyperbolic plane. The existence of a diffusive phase in 3 dimensions was proved in Disertori et al. (Commun. Math. Phys., doi:, 2009) [2] for low temperatures. Here we prove localization at high temperatures for any dimension d ≥ 1. Our analysis uses Ward identities coming from internal supersymmetry.  相似文献

In the mean-field regime we prove convergence, with explicit bounds, of N-particle density matrices satisfying the time-dependent von Neumann equation with factorized initial data to a product of one particle density matrices satisfying the Hartree–von Neumann equation. To prove explicit bounds we generalize techniques developed by Pickl (in A simple derivation of mean field limits for quantum systems. ArXiv:0907.4464, 2009) and Knowles–Pickl (in Commun. Math. We consider a locally interacting Fermi gas in its natural non-equilibrium steady state and prove the Quantum Central Limit Theorem (QCLT) for a large class of observables. A special case of our results concerns finitely many free Fermi gas reservoirs coupled by local interactions. The QCLT for flux observables, together with the Green-Kubo formulas and the Onsager reciprocity relations previously established [JOP4], complete the proof of the Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem and the development of linear response theory for this class of models. This is a continuation of the papers of Bleher and Fokin (Commun. Math. Phys., 268:223–284, 2006) and of Bleher and Liechty (Commun. Math. Phys., 286:777–801, 2009), in which the large n asymptotics is obtained for the partition function Z n of the six-vertex model with domain wall boundary conditions in the disordered and ferroelectric phases, respectively. In the present paper we obtain the large n asymptotics of Z n on the critical line between these two phases. In [A.W. Harrow and R.A. Low, Commun. Math. Phys. 291(1):257–302 (2009)], it was shown that a quantum circuit composed of random 2-qubit gates converges to an approximate quantum 2-design in polynomial time. We point out and correct a flaw in one of the paper’s main arguments. Our alternative argument highlights the role played by transpositions induced by the random gates in achieving convergence.  相似文献

Motivated by a recent use of Glauber dynamics for Monte Carlo simulations of path integral representation of quantum spin models (Krzakala et al. in Phys. Rev. B 78(13):134428, 2008), we analyse a natural Glauber dynamics for the quantum Ising model with a transverse field on a finite graph G. We establish strict monotonicity properties of the equilibrium distribution and we extend (and improve) the censoring inequality of Peres and Winkler to the quantum setting. Then we consider the case when G is a regular b-ary tree and prove the same fast mixing results established in Martinelli et al. (Commun. Math. Phys. 250(2):301–334, 2004) for the classical Ising model. Our main tool is an inductive relation between conditional marginals (known as the “cavity equation”) together with sharp bounds on the operator norm of the derivative at the stable fixed point. It is here that the main difference between the quantum and the classical case appear, as the cavity equation is formulated here in an infinite dimensional vector space, whereas in the classical case marginals belong to a one-dimensional space.  相似文献

By considering spectral triples on ${S^{2}_{\mu, c}\,\, (c >0 )}${S^{2}_{\mu, c}\,\, (c >0 )} constructed by Chakraborty and Pal (Commun Math Phys 240(3):447–456, 2000), we show that in general the quantum group of volume and orientation preserving isometries (in the sense of Bhowmick and Goswami in J Funct Anal 257:2530–2572, 2009) for a spectral triple of compact type may not have a C*-action, and moreover, it can fail to be a matrix quantum group. It is also proved that the category with objects consisting of those volume and orientation preserving quantum isometries which induce C*-action on the C* algebra underlying the given spectral triple, may not have a universal object.  相似文献

We give a new proof of the regularity away from the nuclei of the electronic density of a molecule obtained by Fournais et al. (Commun. Math. Phys. 228(3):401–415, 2002; Ark. Math. 42(1):87–106, 2004). The new argument is based on the regularity properties of the Coulomb interactions underlined by Hunziker (Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, section A, tome 45, no. 4, pp 339–358, 1986) and by Klein et al. (Commun. Math. Phys. 143(3):607–639, 1992). Well-known pseudodifferential techniques for elliptic operators are used and the method works in a larger framework.  相似文献
