Lanthanum dimer (La(2)) was studied by mass-analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectroscopy and a series of multi-configuration ab initio calculations. The MATI spectrum exhibits three band systems originating from ionization of the neutral ground electronic state, and each system shows vibrational frequencies of the neutral molecule and singly charged cation. The three ionization processes are La(2)(+) (a(2)∑(g)(+)) ← La(2) (X(1)∑(g)(+)), La(2)(+) (b(2)Π(3/2, u)) ← La(2) (X(1)∑(g)(+)), and La(2)(+) (b(2)Π(1/2, u)) ← La(2) (X(1)∑(g)(+)), with the ionization energies of 39,046, 40,314, and 40,864 cm(-1), respectively. The vibrational frequency of the X(1)Σ(g)(+) state is 207 cm(-1), and those of the a(2)Σ(g)(+), b(2)Π(3/2, u) and b(2)Π(1/2, u) are 235.7, 242.2, and 240 cm(-1). While X(1)Σ(g)(+) is the ground state of the neutral molecule, a(2)Σ(g (+) and b(2)Π(u) are calculated to be the excited states of the cation. The spin-orbit splitting in the b(2)Π(u) ion is 550 cm(-1). An X(4)Σ(g)(-) state of La(2)(+) was predicted by theory, but not observed by the experiment. The determination of a singlet ground state of La(2) shows that lanthanum behaves differently from scandium and yttrium.  相似文献

Monobenzene complexes of yttrium (Y), lanthanum (La), and lutetium (Lu), M(C(6)H(6)) (M = Y, La, and Lu), were prepared in a laser-vaporization supersonic molecular beam source and studied by pulsed-field ionization zero electron kinetic energy (ZEKE) spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. The calculations included the second-order perturbation, the coupled cluster with single, double, and perturbative triple excitation, and the complete active space self-consistent field methods. Adiabatic ionization energies and metal-benzene stretching frequencies of these complexes were measured for the first time from the ZEKE spectra. Electronic states of the neutral and ion complexes and benzene ring deformation were determined by combining the spectroscopic measurements with the theoretical calculations. The ionization energies of M(C(6)H(6)) are 5.0908 (6), 4.5651 (6), and 5.5106 (6) eV, and the metal-ligand stretching frequencies of [M(C(6)H(6))](+) are 328, 295, and 270 cm(-1) for M = Y, La, and Lu, respectively. The ground states of M(C(6)H(6)) and [M(C(6)H(6))](+) are (2)A(1) and (1)A(1), respectively, and their molecular structures are in C(2v) point group with a bent benzene ring. The deformation of the benzene ring upon metal coordination is caused by the pseudo Jahn-Teller interaction of (1(2)E(2)+1(2)A(1)+2(2)E(2)) e(2) at C(6v) symmetry. In addition, the study shows that spectroscopic behaviors of Y(C(6)H(6)) and La(C(6)H(6)) are similar to each other, but different from that of Lu(C(6)H(6)).  相似文献

Vibrational Spectra and Force Constants of the Elpasolites Cs2KMF6 (M = Sc, Y, La, Gd, Yb) The vibrational spectra of the elpasolites Cs2KMF6 (M = Sc, Y, La, Gd, Yb) have been recorded and assigned including the lattice vibrations. The vibrational frequencies thus obtained were used for the calculation of XVFF force constants. The values of the stretching force constants are discussed.  相似文献

Reactions of laser-ablated lanthanum and yttrium atoms with carbon monoxide molecules in solid neon have been investigated using matrix-isolation infrared spectroscopy. The M(CO)x and MCO+ (M = La, Y; x = 1-4) molecules have been formed and identified on the basis of isotopic shifts, mixed isotopic splitting patterns, and CCl4-doping experiments. Density functional theory calculations have been performed on these lanthanum and yttrium carbonyls. The agreement between the experimental and calculated vibrational frequencies, relative absorption intensities, and isotopic shifts substantiates the identification of these carbonyls from the matrix infrared spectrum. The present study reveals that the C-O stretching vibrational frequencies of MCO+ decrease from Sc to La, which indicates an increasing in metal d orbital --> CO pi* back-donation in this series.  相似文献

Molecular structures of Dy(3)N@C(78) and Tm(3)N@C(78) clusterfullerenes are addressed by the IR and Raman vibrational spectroscopic studies and density functional theory (DFT) computations. First, extensive semiempirical calculations of 2927 isomers of C(78) hexaanions followed by DFT optimization were applied to establish their relative stability. Then, DFT calculations of a series of M(3)N@C(78) (M = Sc, Y, Lu, La) isomers were performed which have shown that the stability order of the isomers depends on the cluster size. While the Sc(3)N cluster is planar in the earlier reported Sc(3)N@C(78) (D(3)h: 24,109) clusterfullerenes, relatively large Y(3)N and Lu(3)N clusters would be forced to be pyramidal inside this cage, which would result in their destabilization. Instead, these clusters remain planar in the nonisolated pentagon rule (non-IPR) C(2): 22,010 isomer making Y(3)N@C(78) and Lu(3)N@C(78) clusterfullerenes with this cage structure the most stable ones. Finally, on the basis of a detailed analysis of their IR and Raman spectra supplemented with DFT vibrational calculations, the recently isolated Tm(3)N@C(78) and the major isomer of Dy(3)N@C(78) are assigned to the non-IPR C(2): 22,010 cage structure. A detailed assignment of their experimental and computed IR and Raman spectra is provided to support this conclusion and to exclude other cage isomers.  相似文献

The vibrational spectrum of the vinyl bromide cation in the first excited electronic state A 2A' was obtained by one-photon mass-analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectroscopy. The use of an improved vacuum-ultraviolet radiation source based on four-wave sum frequency mixing in Hg resulted in excellent sensitivity for MATI signals. From the MATI spectrum, the ionization energy to the A 2A' state of the cation was determined to be 10.9150+/-0.0006 eV. Nearly complete vibrational assignments for the MATI peaks were possible by utilizing the vibrational frequencies and Franck-Condon factors calculated at the density-functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT/B3LYP levels with the 6-311+G(df,p) basis set.  相似文献

The electronic properties of germanium and tin clusters containing a transition- or lanthanide-metal atom from group 3, 4, or 5, MGe(n) (M = Sc, Ti, V, Y, Zr, Nb, Lu, Hf, and Ta) and MSn(n) (M = Sc, Ti, Y. Zr, and Hf), were investigated by anion photoelectron spectroscopy at 213 nm. In the case of the group 3 elements Sc, Y, and Lu, the threshold energy of electron detachment of MGe(n)(-) exhibits local maxima at n = 10 and 16, while in the case of the group 4 elements Ti, Zr, and Hf, it exhibits a local minimum only at n = 16, associated with the presence of a small bump in the spectrum. A similar behavior is observed for MSn(n)(-) around n = 16, and these electronic characteristics of MGe(n) and MSn(n) are closely related to those of MSi(n). Compared to MSi(n), however, the larger cavity size of a Ge(n) cage allows metal atom encapsulation at a smaller size n. A cooperative effect between the electronic and geometric structures of clusters with a large cavity of Ge(16) or Sn(16) is discussed together with the results of experiments that probe their geometric stability via their reactivity to H(2)O adsorption.  相似文献

Reactions of laser-ablated Y and La atoms with H2O2 gives the M(OH)2 and M(OH)3 molecules and the HOMO dehydration product, and the cation M(OH)2+ in solid argon. Density functional calculations show that the dihydroxide molecules and cations are bent at the metal center, and the symmetric and antisymmetric O-H stretching modes are both observed in the infrared spectra. The trihydroxide molecules have calculated C(3h) structures characterized by strong antisymmetric O-H and M-O stretching modes. Mulliken charges increase for all product molecules going down the Group 3 family and increase as one, two, and three OH ligands are bonded to the metal center. Evidence is also presented for the Y(OH)4- anion.  相似文献

We produced both doubly and singly charged Group VIB dimetalate species-M(2)O(7)(2-), MM'O(7)(2-), and M(2)O(7)(-) (M, M' = Cr, Mo, W)-using two different experimental techniques (electrospray ionization for the doubly charged anions and laser vaporization for the singly charged anions) and investigated their electronic and geometric structures using photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional calculations. Distinct changes in the electronic and geometric structures were observed as a function of the metal and charge state. The electron binding energies of the heteronuclear dianions MM'O(7)(2-) were observed to be roughly the average of those of their homonuclear counterparts (M(2)O(7)(2-) and M'(2)O(7)(2-)). Density functional calculations indicated that W(2)O(7)(2-), W(2)O(7)(-), and W(2)O(7) possess different ground-state structures: the dianion is highly symmetric (D(3d),(1)A(1g)) with a single bridging oxo ligand, the monoanion is a doublet (C(1), (2)A) with two bridging oxo ligands and a radical terminal oxo ligand, whereas the neutral is a singlet (C(1), (1)A) with two bridging oxo ligands and a terminal peroxo ligand. The combined experimental and theoretical study provides insights into the evolution of geometric and electronic structures as a function of charge state. The clusters identified might provide insights into the possible structures of reactive species present in early transition-metal oxide catalysts that are relevant to their reactivity and catalytic function.  相似文献

Laser-ablated Sc, Y, and La atoms react with molecular hydrogen upon condensation in excess argon, neon, and deuterium to produce the metal dihydride molecules and dihydrogen complexes MH(2) and (H(2))MH(2). The homoleptic tetrahydrometalate anions ScH(4)(-), YH(4)(-), and LaH(4)(-) are formed by electron capture and identified by isotopic substitution (D(2), HD, and H(2) + D(2) mixtures). Doping with CCl(4) to serve as an electron trap virtually eliminates the anion bands, and further supports the anion identifications. The observed vibrational frequencies are in agreement with the results of density functional theory calculations, which predict electron affinities in the 2.8-2.4 eV range for the (H(2))ScH(2), (H(2))YH(2), and (H(2))LaH(2) complexes, and indicate high stability for the MH(4)(-) (M = Sc, La, Y) anions and suggest the promise of synthesis on a larger scale for use as reducing agents.  相似文献

Clusters of Ar bound to isomers of the aromatic hydrocarbon n-butylbenzene (BB) have been studied using two-color REMPI (resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization) and MATI (mass analyzed threshold ionization) spectroscopy to explore noncovalent vdW interactions between these two moieties. Blue shifts of excitation energy were observed for gauche-BB...Ar clusters, and red shifts for anti-BB...Ar clusters were observed. Adiabatic ionization energies (IEs) of the conformer BB-I...Ar and BB-V...Ar were determined as 70052 and 69845 +/- 5 cm (-1), respectively. Spectral features and vibrational modes were interpreted with the aid of UMP2/cc-pVDZ ab initio calculations. Data of complexation shifts of the alkyl-benzenes and their argon clusters were collected and discussed. Using the CCSD(T) method at complete basis set (CBS) level, interaction energies for the neutral ground states of BB-I...Ar and BB-V...Ar were obtained as 650 and 558 cm (-1), respectively. Combining the CBS calculation results and the REMPI and MATI spectra allowed further the determination of the interaction energies and the energetics of BB...Ar in the excited neutral S 1 and the D 0 cationic ground states.  相似文献

LaO(2) was produced in a pulsed laser-vaporization molecular beam source and studied by mass-analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectroscopy and ab initio electronic structure calculations. The calculations included density functional theory, second-order perturbation theory, coupled cluster theory, and complete active space self-consistent field methods. The adiabatic ionization energy of the molecule and vibrational frequencies of the molecule and its cation were measured accurately for the first time from the MATI spectrum. Numerous ionization processes of lanthanum dioxide, peroxide, and superoxide were considered; the (3)B(2) ← (4)B(2) electronic transition of the dioxide was assigned upon comparison with the observed spectrum. The ionization energy and O-La-O bending frequency of the (4)B(2) neutral state are 4.9760 (6) eV and 92 cm(-1), respectively. The La-O stretching and O-La-O bending frequencies of the (3)B(2) cationic state are 656 and 122 cm(-1), respectively. The (4)B(2) state is formed by two electron transfer from lanthanum to oxygen atoms, and the (3)B(2) state is produced by the further removal of a lanthanum 6s-based electron.  相似文献

Based on the calculated findings that the sizes of encaged clusters determine the structures and the stability of C80-based trimetallic nitride fullerenes (TNFs), more extensive density functional theory calculations were performed on M3N@C68, M3N@C78 and M3N@C80 (M=Sc, Y and La). The calculated results demonstrated that the structures and stability undergo a transition with the increasing of the sizes of the cages and clusters. Sc3N is planar inside the three considered cages, Y3N is slightly pyramidal ins...  相似文献

Direct treatment (1:1) of MCl3 (M = Sc, Y or La) with SnCl4 in thf provides colourless compounds of the type ScSnCl7(thf)5 and MSnCl7(thf)6 (M = Y, La), which have been characterised by elemental analysis and spectroscopic studies. An X-ray determination of ScSnCl7(thf)5 reveals an ionic structure comprising individual six-coordinate [ScCl2(thf)4]+ cations and [SnCl5(thf)]-anions. The cations feature an octahedral metal geometry in which a linear Cl-Sc-Cl unit is surrounded by an equatorial girdle of four solvent (thf) molecules.  相似文献

The results of density functional theory based calculations on Ga3O, Ga3O2, Ga3O3, Ga2O3, and GaO3 clusters are reported here. A preference for planar arrangement of the constituent atoms maximizing the ionic interactions is found in the ground state of the clusters considered. The sequential oxidation of the metal-excess clusters increases the binding energy, but the sequential removal of a metal atom from the oxygen-excess clusters decreases the binding energy. The increase in the oxygen to metal ratio in these clusters is accompanied by increase in both electron affinity and ionization potential. The ionization induced structural distortions in the neutral clusters are relatively small, except those for Ga3O2. In anionic (cationic) clusters, the added (ionized) electron is shared by the Ga atoms, except in the case of GaO3. The vibrational frequencies and charge density analysis reveal the importance of the ionic Ga-O bond in stabilizing the gallium oxide clusters considered in this study.  相似文献

The vibrationally resolved mass analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectra of jet-cooled 7-azaindole have been recorded by ionizing via four different intermediate levels. The adiabatic ionization energy of this molecule is determined to be 65 462±5 cm−1, which is greater than that of indole by 2871 cm−1. The vibrational spectra of 7-azaindole in the S1 and D0 states have been successfully assigned by comparing the measured frequencies with those of indole as well as the predicted values from the ab initio calculations. Detailed analysis on the MATI spectra shows that the structure of the cation is somewhat different from that of this species in the neutral S1 state.  相似文献

Transition metal oxide cations of the form M n O m (+) (M = Y, La) are produced by laser vaporization in a pulsed nozzle source and detected with time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Cluster oxides for each value of n form only a limited number of stoichiometries; MO(M2O3)x(+) species are particularly intense. Cluster cations are mass selected and photodissociated using the third harmonic (355 nm) of a Nd:YAG laser. Multiphoton excitation is required to dissociate these clusters because of their strong bonding. Yttrium and lanthanum oxides exhibit different dissociation channels, but some common trends can be identified. Larger clusters for both metals undergo fission to make certain stable cation clusters, especially MO(M2O3) x (+) species. Specific cations are identified to be especially stable because of their repeated production in the decomposition of larger clusters. These include M3O4(+), M5O7(+), M7O10(+), and M9O13(+), along with Y6O8(+). Density functional theory calculations were performed to investigate the relative stabilities and structures of these systems.  相似文献

The short-time nuclear dynamics of Cu(H(2)O) is investigated using femtosecond photodetachment-photoionization spectroscopy and time-dependent quantum wave packet calculations. The Cu(H(2)O) dynamics is initiated in the electronic ground state of the complex by electron photodetachment from the Cu(-)(H(2)O) complex, where hydrogen atoms are oriented toward Cu. Several time-resolved resonant multiphoton ionization schemes are used to probe the ensuing reorientation and dissociation. Immediately following photodetachment, the neutral complex is far from its minimum energy geometry and possesses an internal energy comparable to the Cu-H(2)O dissociation energy and undergoes both large-amplitude H(2)O motion and dissociation. Dissociation is observed to occur on three distinct time scales: 0.6, 8, and 100 ps. These results are compared to the results of time-dependent J=0 wave packet calculations, propagating the initial anion vibrational wave functions on the ground-state potential of the neutral complex. An excellent agreement is obtained between the experimental results and the ionization signals derived from the calculated probability amplitudes. Related experiments and calculations are carried out on the Cu(D(2)O) complex, with results very similar to those of Cu(H(2)O).  相似文献

For the first time, vibrational spectra of the 35Cl2 and 35Cl37Cl isotopomers of o-, m-, and p-dichlorobenzene cations in the electronic ground state have been measured via S1 intermediate states by mass analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectroscopy. Additionally, ab initio calculations at DFT (density functional theory), CIS (configuration interaction singles), and CASSCF (complete active space self-consistent field) levels of theory have been conducted to compare experimental findings with theory. From the MATI spectra, adiabatic ionization energies of the ortho, meta, and para isomers have been determined to be the same for each pair of investigated isotopomers to 73,237 +/- 6, 72,191 +/- 6, and 73,776 +/- 6 cm(-1), respectively. Several vibrational modes, including fundamentals, combinations, and progressions have been assigned by comparing the experimental and theoretical results. The appearance of overtone progressions involving the 7a mode could be explained by a geometry change of all three isomers during ionization in the direction of this mode by retraining the symmetry of the molecules. Although the general spectral features of the investigated isotopomers are similar, frequencies of some vibrations are slightly different up to a few wavenumbers depending on the involvement of the chlorine atoms in the molecular motion.  相似文献

Spectroscopic characterization of neutral highly-coordinated compounds is essential in fundamental and applied research, but has been proven to be a challenging experimental target because of the difficulty in mass selection. Here, we report the preparation and size-specific infrared-vacuum ultraviolet (IR-VUV) spectroscopic identification of group-3 transition metal carbonyls Sc(CO)7 and TM(CO)8 (TM=Y, La) in the gas phase, which are the first confinement-free neutral heptacarbonyl and octacarbonyl complexes. The results indicate that Sc(CO)7 has a C2v structure and TM(CO)8 (TM=Y, La) have a D4h structure. Theoretical calculations predict that the formation of Sc(CO)7 and TM(CO)8 (TM=Y, La) is both thermodynamically exothermic and kinetically facile in the gas phase. These highly-coordinated carbonyls are 17-electron complexes when only those valence electrons that occupy metal−CO bonding orbitals are considered, in which the ligand-only 4b1u molecular orbital is ignored. This work opens new avenues toward the design and chemical control of a large variety of compounds with unique structures and properties.  相似文献
