The singlet and triplet excited states of hydrogen cyanide have been computed by using the complete active space self-consistent field and completed active space second order perturbation methods with the atomic natural orbital (ANO-L) basis set. Through calculations of vertical excitation energies, we have probed the transitions from ground state to valence excited states, and further extensions to the Rydberg states are achieved by adding 1s1p1d Rydberg orbitals into the ANO-L basis set. Four singlet and nine triplet excited states have been optimized. The computed adiabatic energies and the vertical transition energies agree well with the available experimental data and the inconsistencies with the available theoretical reports are discussed in detail.  相似文献

The potential energy surfaces of the nitroso compounds CClF2NO and CCl2FNO in the ground and lowest excited singlet and triplet electronic states were studied by various ab initio methods (including multiconfigurational methods). The equilibrium geometric parameters, vibrational frequencies, internal rotation potential functions, and rotational contours of bands in the S1 S0 vibronic spectrum of the CClF2NO molecule were calculated. For the molecules under consideration, the quantum-mechanical problem on torsional motion was solved. The results of calculations are, on the whole, in good agreement with experiment.  相似文献

The electronic absorption spectrum of anthracene-9,10-endoperoxide (APO) has been investigated by means of multiconfigurational multi-state second order perturbation theory on complete active space self-consistent field wavefunctions (MS-CASPT2/CASSCF) and two single reference methods: time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and coupled cluster of second order (CC2). After testing several active spaces and basis sets, a CAS (14,12) active space together with an ANO-S basis set was found an appropriate choice to describe the vertical singlet and triplet electronic states of APO. Unfortunately, TD-DFT and CC2 methods cannot reproduce the MS-CASPT2 and experimental spectrum. Our MS-CASPT2//CASSCF(14,12)/ANO-S calculations predict a predominant pi*(OO)sigma*(OO) character for the lowest singlet excited state S(1) at 3.85 eV. Accordingly, the lowest singlet state of APO should be responsible for homolysis of the endoperoxide group. The next two absorbing excited states, experimentally proposed to be responsible for singlet oxygen production and therefore connected to the biological interest of APO, have been computed vertically at 4.34 and 4.59 eV and assigned to pi(CC)pi*(CC) and pi*(OO)pi*(CC) transitions, respectively. The vertical triplet electronic spectrum follows the singlet vertical spectrum ordering. The high density of triplet and singlet excited states of different nature within few eV points to the possibility of intersystem crossings between potential energy surfaces of different multiplicity.  相似文献

Local density and generalized gradient approximation time-dependent density functional methods have been used for calculation of the singlet and triplet excited states of nickel-porphine, Ni-tetraphenyloporphine, and Ni-octaethyloporphyrine. Special attention is paid to metal-ligand transitions and d-d transitions. It is shown that the lowest exited singlet states of the three compounds can be described as a transfer of an electron from the porphine ring to the d(x2-y2) orbital of the nickel atom. On the other hand, the lowest excited triplet state arises from promotion of an electron between two nickel d orbitals, an occupied d(z2) and an empty d(x2-y2). It is proposed that a rapid quenching of the excited singlet states is due to an ultrafast intersystem crossing between 1Eg)and 3Eg or 3B1g states.  相似文献

Recent photofragment fluorescence excitation (PHOFEX) spectroscopy experiments have observed the Ã1A″ singlet excited state of isocyanogen (CNCN) for the first time. The observed spectrum is not completely assigned and significant questions remain about the excited states of this system. To provide insight into the energetically accessible excited states of CNCN, optimized geometries, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and excitation energies for the first three singlet excited states are determined using equation‐of‐motion coupled‐cluster theory with singles and doubles (EOM‐CCSD) and correlation‐consistent basis sets. Additionally, excited state coupled‐cluster methods which approximate the contributions from triples (CC3) are utilized to estimate the effect of higher‐order correlation on the energy of each excited state. For the Ã1A″ state, our best estimate for T0 is about 42,200 cm?1, in agreement with the experimentally estimated upper limit for the zero‐point level of 42,523 cm?1. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Singlet and triplet low-lying states of the 4-dimethylaminobenzonitrile and its derivatives have been studied by the density functional theory and ab initio methodologies. Calculations reveal that the existence of the methyl groups in the phenyl ring and the amino twisting significantly modify properties of their excited states. A twisted singlet intramolecular charge-transfer state can be accessed through decay of the second planar singlet excited state with charge-transfer character along the amino twisting coordinate or by an intramolecular charge-transfer reaction involved with a locally first excited singlet state. Plausible charge-transfer triplet states and intersystem crossing processes among singlet and triplet states have been explored by spin-orbit coupling calculations. The intersystem crossing process was predicted to be the dominant deactivation channel of the photoexcited 4-dimethylaminobenzonitrile.  相似文献

The low-lying electronic states of tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and its radical anion were studied using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and extended atomic natural orbital (ANO) basis sets. The results obtained yield a full interpretation of the electronic absorption spectra, explain the spectral changes undergone upon reduction, give support to the occurrence of a bound excited state for the anionic species, and provide valuable information for the rationalization of the experimental data obtained with electron transmission spectroscopy.  相似文献

The lifetimes of benzophenone in the higher triplet excited state (BP(T(n))) and several BP derivatives in the T(n) states were measured directly to be tau(T(n))=37+/-7 ps and 20-33 ps, respectively, by using the nanosecond-picosecond (ns-ps) two-color/two-laser flash photolysis method. Based on the direct measurements of tau(T(n)) of BP(T(n)), the triplet energy transfer (TET) from BP(T(n)) to quenchers (Q), such as carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), benzene (Bz), and p-dichlorbenzene (DCB), was investigated. The fast TET from BP(T(n)) to Q can be attributed to the lifetime-dependent quenching process, according to the Ware theoretical model of the bimolecular energy transfer reaction. The contribution of the lifetime-dependent term on k(TET) was 27, 60, and 86% for CCl4, Bz, and DCB as the Q of BP(T(n)), respectively, indicating that the TET from BP(T(n)) to Q is influenced not only by tau(T(n)), but also by the size of Q.  相似文献

Summary The dipole and quadrupole moments and the dipole polarizability tensor components are calculated for the1 B 1 and3 B 1 excited states of the water molecule by using the complete active space (CAS) SCF method and an extended basis set of atomic natural orbitals. The dipole moment in the lowest1 B 1 (0.640 a.u.) and3 B 1 (0.416 a.u.) states is found to be antiparallel to that in the ground electronic state of H2O. The shape of the quadrupole moment ellipsoid is significantly modified by the electronic excitation to both states investigated in this paper. All components of the excited state dipole polarizability tensor increase by about an order of magnitude compared to their values in the ground electronic state. The present results are used to discuss some aspects of intermolecular interactions involving molecules in their excited electronic states.  相似文献

The ground state and the excited states of benzene, pyrimidine, and pyrazine have been examined by using the symmetry adapted cluster-configuration interaction (SAC-CI) method. Detailed characterizations and the structures of the absorption peaks in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV), low energy electron impact (LEEI), and electron energy loss (EEL) spectra were theoretically clarified by calculating the excitation energy and the oscillator strength for each excited state. We show that SAC-CI has the power to well reproduce the electronic excitation spectra (VUV, LEEI, and EEL) simultaneously to an accuracy for both the singlet and the triplet excited states originated from the low-lying pi --> pi*, n --> pi*, pi --> sigma* and n --> sigma* excited states of the titled compounds. The present results are compared with those of the previous theoretical studies by methods, such as EOM-CCSD(T), STEOM-CCSD, CASPT2 and TD-B3LYP, etc.  相似文献

For twisted zwitterionic excited states, the single-determinant closed-shell SCF approach favours one of the two possibly resonant structures A+B or AB+, but gives a very low energy by allowing reorganization and polarization under the field. This effect is very difficult to include in CI developments using neutral symmetry adapted MO's. The closed-shell SCF approach is always relevant for energy, and only fails for the wavefunction in the (near) degeneracy region between AB+ and A+ B, where the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, anyway, breaks down. The process is applied in nonempirical (minimal + diffuse AO basis set) calculations of butadiene. The role of geometry optimization and of further electron correlation is illustrated. The extent of polarization is shown in ethylene, suggesting a neutral two carbene limit picture of this excited state.  相似文献

The Half-Projected-Hartree-Fock procedure (HPHF) for determining singlet ground states is briefly described and extended to the direct determination of singlet excited states. The procedure is applied, using a [7s,3p/2s,1p] basis set, to determine the optimal geometry of two relatively large molecules, to which large CI calculations cannot be easily applied. These two molecules are cyclobutanone and 3-cyclopenten-1-one in their lowest singlet (n → π) excited state. Both molecules are found to exhibit in their excited state a pyramidal structure with the carbonyl oxygen atom pointing outward from the molecular plane. RHF calculations for the singlet ground state were also performed for comparison. The theoretical geometrical parameters compare well with the experimental data.  相似文献

The molecular structure of 2,2-difluoroethanal (DFE) in the ground (S0) and lowest excited triplet (Ti) electronic states was investigated byab initio quantum-chemical methods. In the S0 state, the DFE molecule exists as the only stablecis conformer. The Ti↓S0 electronic excitation is accompanied by the rotation of the top and the deviation of the carbonyl fragment from planarity. For the DFE molecule in the Ti state, six minima corresponding to three pairs of enantiomers were found on the potential energy surface. Based on this potential energy surface, the problems on torsion and inversion nuclear motions were solved in the one- and two-dimensional approximations, and the interaction between these motions was revealed. The potential energy curves of the ground state and the first excited state of H2 are examined in terms of the electronic force acting on each nucleus. The results reveal the detailed course of events that occur when two hydrogen atoms with parallel and antiparallel electron spins approach one another from a large internuclear separation.  相似文献

The potential surfaces of the two valence ionic singlet excited states of twisted ethylene are known to exhibit a conical intersection for a twist angle of the double bond near 82°, and no pyramidalization of the CH2 groups. The factors responsible for the stabilization of the symmetric excited state near 90° are shown to be ( )2 and ( *)2 double excitations. The analysis is performed in the Quasi Degenerate Perturbation Theory formalism. The analogy with the 1 A g 3 B u ordering problem of the diradical ground and lower triplet states through a double spin polarization of the system is established.  相似文献
