We study the quark mass expansion of the magnetic moments of the nucleon in a chiral effective field theory including nucleons, pions and delta-resonances as explicit degrees of freedom. We point out that the usual power counting applied so far to this problem misses important quark mass structures generated via an intermediate isovector M1 nucleon-delta transition. We propose a modified power counting and compare the resulting chiral extrapolation function to available (quenched) lattice data. The extrapolation is found to work surprisingly well, given that the lattice data result from rather large quark masses. Our calculation raises the hope that extrapolations of lattice data utilizing chiral effective field theory might be applicable over a wider range in quark masses than previously thought, and we discuss some open questions in this context. Furthermore, we observe that within the current lattice data uncertainties the extrapolations presented here are consistent with the Padé fit ansatz introduced by the Adelaide group a few years ago. We compare the lower edge spectral fluctuations of the staggered lattice Dirac operator for the Schwinger model with the predictions of chiral random matrix theory (chRMT). We verify their range of applicability, checking in particular the rôle of non-trivial topological sectors and the flavor symmetry of the staggered fermions for finite lattice spacing. Approaching the continuum limit we indeed find clear signals for topological modes in the eigenvalue spectrum. These findings indicate problems in the verification of the chRMT predictions.  相似文献

Distribution of eigenfrequencies for vibrating plates   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Acoustic spectra of free plates with a chaotic billiard shape have been measured, and all resonance frequencies in the range 0-500 kHz have been identified. The spectral fluctuations are analyzed and compared to predictions of the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE) of random matrices. The best agreement is found with a superposition of two independent GOE spectra with equal density which indicates that two types of eigenmodes contribute to the same extent. To explain and predict these results a detailed theoretical analysis is carried out below the first cut-off frequency where only flexural and in-plane vibrations are possible. Using three-dimensional plate dispersion relations and two-dimensional models for flexural and in-plane vibrations we obtained two first terms of the asymptotic expansion of the counting function of these eigenmodes. The contribution of edge modes is also discussed. The results are in a very good agreement with the experimentally measured number of modes. The analysis shows that the two types of modes have almost equal level density in the measured frequency interval, and this explains the observed spectral statistics. For a plate with broken symmetry in the up-down direction (where flexural and in-plane modes are strongly coupled) experimentally observed spectral fluctuations correspond to a single GOE spectrum. Above the first cut-off frequency a greater complexity of the spectral fluctuations is expected since a larger number of types of modes will contribute to the spectrum. We study the spectrum and eigenmodes of the QCD Dirac operator in a gauge background given by an instanton liquid model (ILM) at temperatures around the chiral phase transition. Generically we find the Dirac eigenvectors become more localized as the temperature is increased. At the chiral phase transition, both the low lying eigenmodes and the spectrum of the QCD Dirac operator undergo a transition to localization similar to the one observed in a disordered conductor. This suggests that Anderson localization is the fundamental mechanism driving the chiral phase transition. We also find an additional temperature dependent mobility edge (separating delocalized from localized eigenstates) in the bulk of the spectrum which moves toward lower eigenvalues as the temperature is increased. In both regions, the origin and the bulk, the transition to localization exhibits features of a 3D Anderson transition including multifractal eigenstates and spectral properties that are well described by critical statistics. Similar results are obtained in both the quenched and the unquenched case though the critical temperature in the unquenched case is lower. Finally we argue that our findings are not in principle restricted to the ILM approximation and may also be found in lattice simulations.  相似文献

Thermal conductivity κ xx(T) under a field is investigated in d x2 - y2-wave superconductors and isotropic s-wave superconductors by the linear response theory, using a microscopic wave function of the vortex lattice states. To study the origin of the different field dependence of κxx(T) between higher and lower temperature regions, we analyze the spatially-resolved thermal conductivity around a vortex at each temperature, which is related to the spectrum of the local density of states. We also discuss the electric conductivity in the same formulation for a comparison. Received 8 December 2001 and Received in final form 20 March 2002 Published online 6 June 2002  相似文献

We propose a plasma model for spectral statistics displaying level repulsion without long-range spectral rigidity, i.e. statistics intermediate between random matrix and Poisson statistics similar to the ones found numerically at the critical point of the Anderson metal-insulator transition in disordered systems and in certain dynamical systems. The model emerges from Dysons one-dimensional gas corresponding to the eigenvalue distribution of the classical random matrix ensembles by restricting the logarithmic pair interaction to a finite number k of nearest neighbors. We calculate analytically the spacing distributions and the two-level statistics. In particular we show that the number variance has the asymptotic form Σ2(L) ∼χL for large L and the nearest-neighbor distribution decreases exponentially when s→∞, P(s) ∼ exp(- Λs) with Λ = 1/χ = kβ + 1, where β is the inverse temperature of the gas (β = 1, 2 and 4 for the orthogonal, unitary and symplectic symmetry class respectively). In the simplest case of k = β = 1, the model leads to the so-called Semi-Poisson statistics characterized by particular simple correlation functions e.g. P(s) = 4s exp(- 2s). Furthermore we investigate the spectral statistics of several pseudointegrable quantum billiards numerically and compare them to the Semi-Poisson statistics. Received 13 September 2000  相似文献

We model an isolated quantum computer as a two-dimensional lattice of qubits (spin halves) with fluctuations in individual qubit energies and residual short-range inter-qubit couplings. In the limit when fluctuations and couplings are small compared to the one-qubit energy spacing, the spectrum has a band structure and we study the quantum computer core (central band) with the highest density of states. Above a critical inter-qubit coupling strength, quantum chaos sets in, leading to quantum ergodicity of eigenstates in an isolated quantum computer. The onset of chaos results in the interaction induced dynamical thermalization and the occupation numbers well described by the Fermi-Dirac distribution. This thermalization destroys the noninteracting qubit structure and sets serious requirements for the quantum computer operability. Based on a phenomenologically successful effective chiral theory of pseudoscalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons, all the coefficients of the chiral perturbation theory are predicted. There is no new adjustable parameter in these predictions. Up to O(m 2 q) the formulas of the masses of the pseudoscalar mesons are the same as the ones obtained by ChPT. We study the chiral phase transition at finite temperature in the linear sigma model by employing a self-consistent Hartree approximation. This approximation is introduced by imposing self-consistency conditions on the effective meson mass equations which are derived from the finite temperature one-loop effective potential. It is shown that in the limit of vanishing pion mass, namely when the chiral symmetry is exact, the phase transition becomes a weak first order accompanying a gap in the order parameter as a function of temperature. This is caused by the long range fluctuations of meson fields whose effective masses become small in the transition region. It is shown, however, that with an explicit chiral symmetry breaking term in the Lagrangian which generates the realistic finite pion mass the transition is smoothed out irrespective of the choice of coupling strength. Employing symbolic dynamics for geodesic motion on the tesselated pseudosphere, the so-called Hadamard-Gutzwiller model, we construct extremely long periodic orbits without compromising accuracy. We establish criteria for such long orbits to behave ergodically and to yield reliable statistics for self-crossings and avoided crossings. Self-encounters of periodic orbits are reflected in certain patterns within symbol sequences, and these allow for analytic treatment of the crossing statistics. In particular, the distributions of crossing angles and avoided-crossing widths thus come out as related by analytic continuation. Moreover, the action difference for Sieber-Richter pairs of orbits (one orbit has a self-crossing which the other narrowly avoids and otherwise the orbits look very nearly the same) results to all orders in the crossing angle. These findings may be helpful for extending the work of Sieber and Richter towards a fuller understanding of the classical basis of quantum spectral fluctuations. The selfconsistent diagram approximation (SCDA) is generalized for three-dimensional lattice gases with nearest neighbor repulsive interactions. The free energy is represented in a closed form through elementary functions. Thermodynamical (phase diagrams, chemical potential and mean square fluctuations), structural (order parameter, distribution functions) as well as diffusional characteristics are investigated. The calculation results are compared with the Monte Carlo simulation data to demonstrate high precision of the SCDA in reproducing the equilibrium lattice gas characteristics. It is shown that similarly to two-dimensional systems the specific statistical memory effects strongly influence the lattice gas diffusion in the ordered states. Studies of QCD thermodynamics on the lattice now can be performed with an almost realistic quark mass spectrum and on quite large lattices. This will soon allow a controlled extrapolation to the continuum limit. We present recent results on the QCD equation of state, discuss deconfining and chiral symmetry restoring aspects of the QCD transition at vanishing chemical potential and show results on baryon number, electric charge and strangeness fluctuations. We briefly discuss the generic structure of Taylor expansion coefficients in the vicinity of the chiral phase transition and comment on the determination of the anticipated chiral critical point within the framework of Taylor expansions of the QCD partition function.  相似文献

We study the force-induced unfolding of random disordered RNA or single-stranded DNA polymers. The system undergoes a second-order phase transition from a collapsed globular phase at low forces to an extensive necklace phase with a macroscopic end-to-end distance at high forces. At low temperatures, the sequence inhomogeneities modify the critical behaviour. We provide numerical evidence for the universality of the critical exponents which, by extrapolation of the scaling laws to zero force, contain useful information on the ground-state (f = 0) properties. This provides a good method for quantitative studies of scaling exponents characterizing the collapsed globule. In order to get rid of the blurring effect of thermal fluctuations, we restrict ourselves to the ground state at fixed external force. We analyze the statistics of rearrangements, in particular below the critical force, and point out its implications for force-extension experiments on single molecules. We discuss a simple formula which connects the field-strength tensor to a spectral sum over certain quadratic forms of the eigenvectors of the lattice Dirac operator. We analyze these terms for the near zero modes and find that they give rise to contributions which are essentially either self-dual or anti-self-dual. Modes with larger eigenvalues in the bulk of the spectrum are more dominated by quantum fluctuations and are less (anti-)self-dual. In the high temperature phase of QCD we find considerably reduced (anti-)self-duality for the modes near the edge of the spectral gap.  相似文献

We investigate near-threshold neutral pion photoproduction off protons to fourth order in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory in the light of the new data from MAMI. We show that the unitarity cusp at the secondary π+ n threshold is in agreement with expectations from the final-state theorem. We also analyze the fourth-order corrections to the P-wave low-energy theorems and show that potentially large Δ isobar contributions are cancelled by sizeable pion loop effects. This solidifies the parameter-free third-order predictions, which are in good agreement with the data. Received: 25 May 2001 / Accepted: 21 June 2001  相似文献

We analyse the baryon mass spectrum in a framework which combines the 1/N c expansion with chiral perturbation theory. Meson loop contributions involving the full SU(3) octet of pseudoscalar Goldstone bosons are evaluated, and the influence of explicit chiral and flavor symmetry breaking by non-zero and unequal quark masses is investigated. We also discuss sigma terms and the strangeness contribution to the nucleon mass. Received: 29 June 1998 / Revised version: 25 November 1998  相似文献

Using the method which retains the rotation symmetry of spin components in the paramagnetic state and has no preset magnetic ordering, spectral and magnetic properties of the two-dimensional t-J model in the normal state are investigated for the ranges of hole concentrations 0 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.16 and temperatures 0.01tT ⩽ 0.2t. The used hopping t and exchange J parameters of the model correspond to hole-doped cuprates. The obtained solutions are homogeneous which indicates that stripes and other types of phase separation are not connected with the strong electron correlations described by the model. A series of nearly equidistant maxima in the hole spectral function calculated for low T and x is connected with hole vibrations in the region of the perturbed short-range antiferromagnetic order. The hole spectrum has a pseudogap in the vicinity of (0,π) and (π, 0). For x ≈ 0.05 the shape of the hole Fermi surface is transformed from four small ellipses around (±π/2,±π/2) to two large rhombuses centered at (0, 0) and (π,π). The calculated temperature and concentration dependencies of the spin correlation length and the magnetic susceptibility are close to those observed in cuprate perovskites. These results offer explanations for the observed scaling of the static uniform susceptibility and for the changes in the spin-lattice relaxation and spin-echo decay rates in terms of the temperature and doping variations in the spin excitation spectrum of the model.
