Aggregation of poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(propylene oxide)-b-poly(ethylene oxide) triblock copolymer, Pluronic P123, is promoted in a room temperature ionic liquid, ethylammonium nitrate (EAN). A series of lyotropic mesophases including normal micellar cubic (I1), normal hexagonal (H1), lamellar (Lalpha), and reverse bicontinuous cubic (V2) are identified at 25 degrees C by using polarized optical microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering techniques. Such self-assembly behavior of P123 in EAN is similar to those observed in H2O or 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([BMim(+)][PF6(-)]) systems except for the presence of the V2 phase in EAN and the absence of the I 1 phase in [BMim(+)][PF6(-)]. This suggests that the ionic solvent of EAN plays similar roles as H2O and [BMim(+)][PF6(-)] during the aggregation process and solvates the PEO blocks through hydrogen-bond interaction. Furthermore, the hydrogen bonds are considered to form between the ethylammonium cations and oxygen atoms of the PEO blocks as confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectra of P123-EAN assemblies. This deduction is also consistent with the results from differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The additional V2 phase appearing in the P123-EAN system is attributed to the higher affinity for the relatively hydrophobic PPO blocks to EAN than to water, which might reduce the effective area of the solvophilic headgroup and increase the volume of the solvophobic part. The obtained results may help us to better understand the self-assembly process for amphiphilic block copolymers in protic solvents.  相似文献

Microemulsions of nonionic alkyl oligoethyleneoxide (CiEj) surfactants, alkanes, and ethylammonium nitrate (EAN), a room-temperature ionic liquid, have been prepared and characterized. Studies of phase behavior reveal that EAN microemulsions have many features in common with corresponding aqueous systems, the primary difference being that higher surfactant concentrations and longer surfactant tailgroups are required to offset the decreased solvophobicity the surfactant molecules in EAN compared with water. The response of the EAN microemulsions to variation in the length of the alkane, surfactant headgroup, and surfactant tailgroup has been found to parallel that observed in aqueous systems in most instances. EAN microemulsions exhibit a single broad small-angle X-ray scattering peak, like aqueous systems. These are well described by the Teubner-Strey model. A lamellar phase was also observed for surfactants with longer tails at lower temperatures. The scattering peaks of both microemulsion and lamellar phases move to lower wave vector on increasing temperature. This is ascribed to a decrease in the interfacial area of the surfactant layer. Phase behavior, small-angle X-ray scattering, and conductivity experiments have allowed the weakly to strongly structured transition to be identified for EAN systems.  相似文献

The ability of a series of non-ionic dodecyl poly(ethylene oxide) surfactants to form micelles in a variety of protic ionic liquids (PILs) was investigated using small and wide angle X-ray scattering (SAXS/WAXS). The C(12)E(n) surfactants with n = 3-8 were examined in PILs which contained either an ethyl, diethyl, triethyl, butyl, pentyl, ethanol or pentanol-ammonium cation in conjunction with either a nitrate or formate anion. The ability of the PILs to support micelles of these surfactants was highly dependent on their liquid nanostructure. The PILs containing hydroxyl groups on the cations were not nanostructured and had very low surfactant solubility (<1 wt%). The highly nanostructured PILs with butylammonium or pentylammonium cations contain large non-polar domains, and had excellent surfactant solubility, but due to the greater hydrocarbon solubility they had insufficient drive from the "solvophobic effect" to enable micelle formation. The PILs of ethylammonium nitrate (EAN), propylammonium nitrate (PAN), diethylammonium formate (DEAF) and triethylammonium formate (TEAF) had smaller non-polar domains, and all supported micelle formation below 20 wt% surfactant. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of surfactants in EAN were two orders of magnitude greater than in water. The minimum molecular areas of the poly(ethylene oxide) head groups at the air/ionic liquid interface, A(min), were significantly larger in EAN than in water. The SAXS patterns from the micelles present in EAN fitted well to ellipsoids, whereas the micelles present in PAN fitted well to spheres. The nanostructure of select PILs was also influenced by the presence of surfactants.  相似文献

Extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy has been used to investigate the species and structures existing in a series of ZnCl(2)-H(2)O-NaCl solutions with different chloride/zinc ratios and in a solution of ZnCl(2) in the protic ionic liquid ethyl ammonium nitrate (EAN). The average coordination numbers and distances of zinc species were determined from the analysis of the EXAFS data. In aqueous solution the number of chloride ions tightly bounded to Zn(2+) is significantly related to the chloride/zinc ratio, and no inner complex formation between Zn(2+) and Cl(-) ions has been detected for low ZnCl(2) concentration (0.1 and 0.2 M). Conversely, in the same concentration range (0.13 M) the ZnCl(2) species do not dissociate in EAN and the Zn(2+) first coordination shell has two chloride ions and is completed by two oxygen atoms of the nitrate anion. The results of this investigation show that notwithstanding the existence of similar characteristics between EAN and water, the solvation properties of the two solvents are markedly different.  相似文献

The aggregation behavior of two silicone surfactants (monomeric and Gemini) was studied by surface tension measurements in a room temperature ionic liquid, ethylammonium nitrate (EAN), at various temperatures. A series of parameters, including critical micelle concentration (CMC), surface tension at the CMC (γ CMC), adsorption efficiency (pC 20), and effectiveness of surface tension reduction (Π CMC), were obtained. By comparing the silicone surfactants with traditional surfactants, we deduced that the surface activity of the silicone surfactants in EAN was superior to the activity of other surfactants. In addition, from the CMC values and their temperature dependence, we estimated the thermodynamic parameters of the micelle formation, $ \Delta G_m^0 $ , $ \Delta H_m^0 $ , and $ \Delta S_m^0 $ . It was revealed that the micellization of the silicone surfactants is entropy driven at low temperature and enthalpy driven at high temperature. Isothermal titration calorimetry measurements were also carried out to study the micellization of Gemini silicone surfactant. 1H NMR was performed to study the silicone surfactant micelle formation mechanism in EAN.  相似文献

The crystallization of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) controlled by Pluronic P123 in a room-temperature ionic liquid, ethylamine nitrate (EAN), was investigated. The CaCO3 aggregates were obtained by rapid mixing of ammonium carbonate ((NH4)2CO3) and calcium chloride (CaCl2). Cubic calcite, spherical vaterite, and bagel-like vaterite were obtained easily by changing P123 concentration and reaction temperature. The morphologies of the as-prepared CaCO3 aggregates were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and scanning electronic microscopy. The phase change of the obtained crystals was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. It was shown that higher P123 concentration and higher reaction temperature favor the formation of vaterite in EAN. Unusual bagel-like vaterite was first obtained at 60 °C in the presence of 5 g/L P123 in EAN. Mineralization of CaCO3 regulated by P123 in EAN is a simple, novel, and environment-friendly strategy for vaterite synthesis.  相似文献

The adsorption behavior of self-assembled lipid liquid crystalline nanoparticles at different model surfaces was investigated in situ by use of ellipsometry. The technique allows time-resolved monitoring of the adsorbed amount and layer thickness under transient and steady-state conditions. The system under study was cubic-phase nanoparticle (CPNP) dispersions of glycerol monooleate stabilized by a nonionic block copolymer, Pluronic F-127. Depending on the surface properties and presence of electrolytes, different adsorption scenarios were discerned: At hydrophilic silica thick surface layers of CPNPs are generated by particle adsorption from dispersions containing added electrolyte, but no adsorption is observed in pure water. Adsorption at the hydrophobic surface involves extensive structural relaxation and formation, which is not electrolyte sensitive, of a classic monolayer structure. The different observations are rationalized in terms of differences in interactions among the CPNP aggregates, their unimer constituents, and the surface and show a strong influence of interfacial interactions on structure formation. Surface self-assembly structures with properties similar to those of the corresponding bulk aggregates appear exclusively in the weak interaction limit. This observation is in agreement with observations for surfactant self-assembly systems, and our findings indicate that this behavior is applicable also to complex self-assembly structures such as the CPNP structures discussed herein.  相似文献

Acting as in situ sources of triflyl nitrate (TfONO(2)) and trifluoroacetyl nitrate (CF(3)COONO(2)), the EAN/Tf(2)O and EAN/TFAA systems, generated via metathesis in the readily available ethylammonium nitrate (EAN) ionic liquid as solvent, are powerful electrophilic nitrating reagents for a wide variety of aromatic and heteroaromatic compounds. Comparative nitration experiments indicate that EAN/Tf(2)O is superior to EAN/TFAA for nitration of strongly deactivated systems. Both systems exhibit low substrate selectivity (K(T)/K(B) = 5-10) in between values reported for covalent nitrates and preformed nitronium salts.  相似文献

The aggregation behaviors of three Gemini surfactants [(C(s)H(2s)-α,ω-(Me(2)N(+)C(m)H(2m+1)Br(-))(2), s = 2, m = 10, 12, 14] in a protic ionic liquid, ethylammonium nitrate (EAN), have been investigated. The polarized optical microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) measurements are used to explore the lyotropic liquid crystal (LLC) formation. Compared to the LLCs formed in aqueous environment, the normal hexagonal and lamellar phases disappear. However, with increasing the surfactant concentration, a new reverse hexagonal phase (H(II)) can be mapped over a large temperature range except for other ordered aggregates including the isotropic solution phase and a two-phase coexistence region. The structural parameters of the H(II) are calculated from the corresponding SAXS patterns, showing the influence of surfactant amount, alkyl chain length, and temperature. Meanwhile, the rheological profiles indicate a typical Maxwell behavior of the LLC phases formed in EAN.  相似文献

The formation of liquid marbles was studied in the situation where hydrophobic particles coating the marbles "come from air". Droplets of water/ethanol solutions of various concentrations were coated with three kinds of powders: polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinylidene fluoride and polyethylene. We established that there exists a critical concentration of ethanol, and correspondingly a critical surface tension of the water/ethanol solution allowing formation of liquid marbles. A critical surface tension depends on the kind of the powder. In parallel, wetting transitions of water/ethanol solutions were studied on the layers of the same polymer powders. The onset of wetting transitions on the powders took place at the concentrations of ethanol coinciding with those enabling the formation of liquid marbles. Wetting transitions stipulate the formation of liquid marbles when a droplet is deposited on a layer of hydrophobic powder. This assumption was validated by the experiments performed with di-iodomethane and glycerol.  相似文献

Anisotropic thermally reversible ionogels of sodium laurate (SL) were prepared in the first discovered room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL), ethylammonium nitrate (EAN). Polarized optical microscope images indicate that the gels are birefringent, illuminating the presence of anisotropic structures. Small-angle X-ray scattering results reveal that SL and lauric acid (LA) molecules are arranged to form lamellar structures, but no SL crystallites were confirmed by the X-ray diffraction measurements. With an increase of the SL concentration, the interlayer distance decreases. Rheological measurements indicate that the anisotropic ionogels are highly viscoelastic and the storage modulus (G') increases with an increase of the SL concentration in EAN. Electrochemical measurements indicate that the anisotropic ionogels may have potential applications in electrochemical fields. The intermolecular hydrogen bond as well as the solvatophobic interaction of SL and LA formed by a chemical reaction, CH(3)(CH(2))(10)COONa + CH(3)CH(2)NH(3)NO(3) --> CH(3)CH(2)NH(2) upward arrow + NaNO(3) downward arrow + CH(3)(CH(2))(10)COOH, can play a role in the formation of three-dimensional networks having lamellar structures which are responsible for the anisotropic ionogels. The formation of anisotropic ionogels by surfactants in RTILs could be a new phenomenon, but this is not a very classic case of organogels.  相似文献

The structure of micelles formed by nonionic polyoxyethylene alkyl ether nonionic surfactants, C n E m , in the room-temperature ionic liquid, ethylammonium nitrate (EAN), has been determined by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) as a function of alkyl and ethoxy chain length, concentration, and temperature. Micelles are found to form for all alkyl chains from dodecyl through to octadecyl. Dodecyl-chained surfactants have high critical micelle concentrations, around 1 wt%, and form weakly structured micelles. Surfactants with longer alkyl chains readily form micelles in EAN. The observed micelle structure changes systematically with alkyl and ethoxy chain length, in parallel with observations in aqueous solutions. Decreasing ethoxy chain length at constant alkyl chain length leads to a sphere to rod transition. These micelles also grow into rods with increasing temperature as their cloud point is approached in EAN.  相似文献

The self-assembly behaviour of the polymerisable surfactant -undecenyltrimethylammonium bromide (-UTAB) both before and after polymerisation has been investigated. In addition polymerisation of the liquid crystalline phases formed by this surfactant in aqueous solution has been studied. Introduction of the carbon-carbon double bond at the end of the hydrocarbon chain increases the rigidity of the paraffinic chains such that the Krafft curve is shifted to higher temperatures compared with that of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide, a nonpolymerisable analogue. Both the polymerised and non-polymerised forms have been observed to have the same phase progression, with the polymer being more soluble in water such that the liquid crystalline phases formed at high surfactant concentration are accessible at room temperature. Polymerisation of the liquid crystalline phases of -UTAB indicate that polymerisation proceeds to approximately 40% (in comparison) with 80% in a non-aggregated form) and that the original monomeric matrix is undisturbed upon partial polymerisation.  相似文献

This paper reports on the highly ordered and tunable inner structure of poly(ionic liquid) nanoparticles, which formed spontaneously by precipitation polymerization from water. Without added stabilizer, these "latexes" are much smaller (20-40 nm in diameter) than usual polymer latexes and exhibit either multilamellar or unilamellar vesicular morphology, depending on the tail length of the quaternizing alkyl chains. The simplicity in the synthesis and composition and the high complexity of the ordered structures that resemble liposomes expand the classical profile of homopolymer self-assembly. In addition, unidirectional superassembly to a nanoworm mesostructure is found at elevated concentrations, indicating that the ionic liquid liposomes are apt to integrate into further hierarchical assembly schemes.  相似文献

A highly ordered dot array pattern of surface micelles on water is formed by a spread monolayer of an amphiphilic block copolymer, polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-4VP), via hybridization with a liquid crystal molecule, 4'-pentyl-4-cyanobiphenyl (5CB), on water. Simple co-spreading of PS-4VP with 5CB provides a flat homogeneous monolayer of PS-4VP on water without the aggregation of PS blocks. With increasing surface pressure, well-defined dots of the PS blocks start to grow and are arrayed in a highly ordered hexagonal structure. The exact coincidence of the surface pressure-area curves for the hybrid monolayer in the compression and expansion processes confirms that the flat spread monolayer and the dot array are formed on water in the equilibrium state by a self-assembly process.  相似文献

A novel route for the self-assembly of nanoparticles to nanospheres at a liquid/liquid interface has been developed to prepare palladium nanospheres. It has proved that the interface offers an excellent site and plays a key role in the self-assembly of nanoparticles to nanospheres. The palladium nanospheres are characterized by electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The mechanism of the self-assembly process is also proposed.  相似文献

The friction and adhesion between pairs of materials (silica, alumina, and polytetrafluoroethylene) have been studied and interpreted in terms of the long-ranged interactions present. In ambient laboratory air, the interactions are dominated by van der Waals attraction and strong adhesion leading to significant frictional forces. In the presence of the ionic liquid (IL) ethylammonium nitrate (EAN) the van der Waals interaction is suppressed and the attractive/adhesive interactions which lead to "stiction" are removed, resulting in an at least a 10-fold reduction in the friction force at large applied loads. The friction coefficient for each system was determined; coefficients obtained in air were significantly larger than those obtained in the presence of EAN (which ranged between 0.1 and 0.25), and variation in the friction coefficients between systems was correlated with changes in surface roughness. As the viscosity of ILs can be relatively high, which has implications for the lubricating properties, the hydrodynamic forces between the surfaces have therefore also been studied. The linear increase in repulsive force with speed, expected from hydrodynamic interactions, is clearly observed, and these forces further inhibit the potential for stiction. Remarkably, the viscosity extracted from the data is dramatically reduced compared to the bulk value, indicative of a surface ordering effect which significantly reduces viscous losses.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-mediated self-assembly of metal (Au and Ag) nanoparticles at the liquid/liquid interface in the form of a stable nanocomposite film is reported. The metallic luster results from the electronic coupling of nanoparticles, suggesting the formation of closely packed nanoparticle thin films. The interfacial film could be transferred to mica substrates and carbon-coated transmission electron microscopy (TEM) grids. The transferred films were very stable for a prolonged time. The samples were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), TEM, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). SEM and TEM results show that the films formed at the liquid/liquid interface are indeed composite materials consisting of CNTs and nanoparticles. XPS measurements further indicate the presence of the interaction between nanoparticles and CNTs.  相似文献

The ability of low molecular weight amides to support amphiphile self-assembly is shown to be a general feature for this class of solvents. This report extends the number of known polar solvents which can support amphiphile self-assembly by five new amides; more than doubling the number of known amides able to serve as amphiphile self-assembly media. The formation of lyotropic liquid crystalline phases by cationic and non-ionic surfactants in these liquid amides is reported. The ability of a solvent to promote amphiphile self-assembly is governed by the "solvophobic effect" and is linked to the solvent cohesiveness. The Gordon parameter which is a measure of the solvent cohesiveness was found to provide a guide to an amides capacity to support lyotropic liquid crystalline phase diversity and thermal stability ranges of those phases. The "solvophobic effect" and steric hindrance factors were compared between amide's and protic ionic liquids possessing analogous chemical structures and also being able to promote amphiphile self-assembly.  相似文献

We investigate the self-assembly of colloidal particles on microscopic decane droplets in water and show that, by use of paramagnetic colloids, it is possible to assemble ringlike structures that can be controlled with a magnetic field. Moreover, the use of paramagnetic colloids allows us to determine the attractive forces between the colloids located at the three-phase contact line between decane, water, and air. The attractive force is in the femtonewton range and is attributed to capillary interactions due to interface deformations. When the liquid emulsion dries on a glass slide, we observe solid deposits in the form of microscopic rings of varying diameters.  相似文献
