Summary A revue of the possible errors affecting pressure measurements in internal combustion engines is presented. A new instrument based on the principle of the Balanced Pressure Indicator and signal multiplexing was developped. Its characteristics used both to obtain an accurate mean pressure diagram and to calibrate pressure transducers in working engines. The overall ability of obtaining meaningful pressure data was shown, even if it is clear that pressure measurements are more an art than a mere technique, given the complexity of the problems involved.
Sommario L'articolo presenta un'analisi dei possibili errori che possono distorcere la misurazione delle pressioni nella camera di combustione dei motori a combustione interna. Un nuovo strumento, basato sul principio dell'indicatore di pressione a bilanciamento di pressioni e del multiplex a modi di impulsi, è qui anche presentato ed utilizzato sia per ottenere un diagramma medio di pressioni di notevole accuratezza, che per calibrare trasduttori di pressione in condizioni di lavoro, cioè mentre il motore è in funzione. Ne risulta che è possibile ottenere diagrammi di pressione veramente rappresentativi delle condizioni di lavoro del motore, anche se è chiaro che, data la complessità dei problemi relativi a detta misurazione, misurare la pressione nei motori è più un'arte che pura tecnica.

This paper studies Lp-estimates for solutions of the nonlinear, spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation. The molecular forces considered include inverse kth-power forces with k > 5 and angular cut-off.The main conclusions are the following. Summary One considers a system L[u]=0 of PDEs, quasi-linear (according to [1]) and of order m, which possesses a bicharacteristic line , as it happens in the hyperbolic case. For v=0, , –m (>0) let u(v) be a discontinuity wave of order m+v that solves the system above and whose discontinuity hypersurface includes . The corresponding transport equations along are considered. Furthermore some interesting cases are pointed out, in which these equations turn out to be mutually equivalent in a suitable sense. Some theorems are stated to compare the transport equations for the discontinuities of the above kinds, that are connected with the systems dhL[u]/dth=0 (h=0, , –m) and/or the linearization of the system L[u]=0 around any regular solution of it.

On linear versus nonlinear flow rules in strain localization analysis   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Summary This note contains some remarks on the analysis of bifurcation phenomena, specifically strain localization (onset of a strain rate discontinuity), in small-deformation elastoplasticity. Nonassociative flow rules are allowed for to cover constitutive models frequently adopted for frictional (and softening) materials such as concrete. The conventional derivation of the localization criterion resting on an incrementally linear comparison material is critically reviewed and compared to the criterion resulting from actual nonlinear plastic flow laws.
Sommario Si svolgono alcune considerazioni sui fenomeni di biforcazione in solidi elastoplastici in regime di piccole deformazioni (di linearità geometrica) e precisamente sul manifestarsi di localizzazioni intese come discontinuità nel campo delle deformazioni incrementali. Si considerano leggi nonassociate. Vengono così inclusi nella trattazione modelli costitutivi frequentemente adottati per descrivere il comportamento di materiali ad attrito interno e soggetti a danneggiamento (nel senso di degrado di rigidezze elastiche in seguito a deformazioni anelastiche), oltre che soggetti a manifestazioni di instabilità per incrudimento negativo (softening). Si esamina criticamente il criterio, frequentemente adottato in letteratura, di localizzazione fondato su materiale di confronto incrementalmente lineare e si fornisce, corredato da osservazioni comparative, il criterio che risulta dall'assunzione del modello di materiale incrementale non lineare

Zusammenfassung Auf dem gezeigten Weg wurden die Spannungen r , , z berechnet, wobei an Stelle der Veränderlichen r und die dimensionlosen Größen x i = r i /, x=r/ und x a = r/ in die Rechnung eingeführt wurden. Die Funktion (r, ) wurde dann für den Bereich 0,45xi1,0, 1xa 2 tabuliert. Hierbei zeigte sich, daß der Rechenaufwand bei der Durchrechnung eines Einzelbeispiels nach der Charakteristikenmethode wesentlich geringer ist. Bei der Anlage von Zahlentafeln zur Berechnung von Spannungen für beliebige Durchmesserverhältnisse ergab sich, daß der aufgezeigte Wege zu geringerem Rechenaufwand führt. Für das Beispiel r i /r a=1/2 wurden die Rohraufweitungen bestimmt und diese Werte noch durch praktische Versuche nachgeprüft. Hierbei ergab sich, daß die theoretisch bestimmten Rohraufweitungen in dem Streubereich der gemessenen Rohraufweitungen lagen, wobei Messungen an drei Rohren aus demselben Material und demselben Rohrverhältnis durchgeführt wurden. Insbesondere stimmten die theoretischen Rohraufweitungen auch mit den gemessenen Rohraufweitungen überein, wenn das Rohr entlastet wurde und die Restdeformationen bestimmt wurden.Daraus kann geschlossen werden, daß durch die berücksichtigte lineare Verfestigung die tatsächlichen Verhältnisse außerordentlich gut erfaßt werden.Der sogenannte Platzdruek eines Rohres kann auf rein rechnerischem Weg nicht erfaßt werden, da für =ra die geometrische Gestalt des Rohres instabil wird. Bei den Versuchen zeigt sich, wenn der Innendruck über p i ( =r **** a ) gesteigert wird, daß das Rohr schon bei geringen Überschreitungen aufzubauchen beginnt.Meinem Lehrer Herrn Prof. Dr. Dr. R. Summary We study the main periodic solutions of a 4-dimensional symplectic mapping composed of two coupled 2-dimensional mappings. Their bifurcations were calculated numerically and also theoretically for small values of the coupling parameter . Most bifurcating families of period 2n (n0) have complex unstable regions that extend from =0 to the maximum allowed value of for each family. These complex unstable regions do not allow the transmisssion of the stability of the corresponding families to families of higher order. We found only one family with a complex unstable region not extending to the maximum , but in this case also the transmission of the stability is stopped at an inverse bifurcation. Thus although there are infinite sequences of bifurcations (of the Feigenbaum type) in the limiting 2-dimensional case =0, all such sequences are interrupted when the system is 4-dimensional (i.e. for 0). The appearance of complex instability for =0 can be predicted by studying the cases =0 and applying the Krein-Moser theorem.
Sommario Si svolge uuno studio dettagliato delle soluzioni periodiche principali di due mappe simplettiche bidimensionali accoppiate, calcolandone sia analiticamente che numericamente le biforcazioni per piccoli valori del parametro di accoppiamento . Quasi tutte le famiglie di periodo 2n (n0) prodotte dalle biforcazioni presentano regioni di instabilità complessa che si estendono da =0 fino al massimo valore di considerato. Queste regioni di instabilità complessa impediscono il trasferimento della stabilità di una famiglia a famiglie di ordine più elevato. In un solo caso si osserva una famiglia la cui regione di instabilità complessa non arriva ad estendersi fino al valore massimo di ; in questo caso però il trasferimento della stabilità viene interrotto da una biforcazione inversa. Se ne conclude che, nonostante I'esistenza di una famiglia di infinite biforcazioni di tipo Feigenbaum nel caso limite bidimensionale (=0), tutte le sequenze si interrompono se il sistema è a quattro dimensioni. Il formarsi di regioni di instabilità complessa per 0 può essere previsto studiando il caso =0 ed appplicando il teorema di Krein-Moser.

Summary In general the theories on conditions of plastification known up till now (Tresca, v. Mises, and others) have only taken into consideration the characteristics of resistance to simple tension and compression, when dealing with structures called upon to resist mainly to tension and compression respectively, without taking into account the inherent resistance to tension and compression respectively of the material employed; this contributory factor is particularly important, especially where the exigencies are very considerable.The theory that we are about to consider has been largely confirmed in the experimental field. Applications to the study of hollow cylinders and hollow spheres serve to clarify the application of the theory in actual practice.

We consider infiltration into a soil that is assumed to have hydraulic conductivity of the form K = K = Kseh and water content of the form = K – r. Here h denotes capillary pressure head while Ks, , and r represent soil specific parameters. These assumptions linearize the flow equation and permit a closed form solution that displays the roles of all the parameters appearing in the hydraulic function K and . We assume Ks and r to be known. A measurement of diffusivity fixes the product of and resulting in a parameter identification problem for one parameter. We show that this parameter identification problem, in some cases, has a unique solution. We also show that, in some cases, this parameter identification problem can have multiple solutions, or no solution. In addition it is shown that solutions to the parameter identification problem can be very sensitive to small changes in the problem data.  相似文献

The effects of finite measuring volume length on laser velocimetry measurements of turbulent boundary layers were studied. Four different effective measuring volume lengths, ranging in spanwise extent from 7 to 44 viscous units, were used in a low Reynolds number (Re=1440) turbulent boundary layer with high data density. Reynolds shear stress profiles in the near-wall region show that u v strongly depends on the measuring volume length; at a given y-position, u v decreases with increasing measuring volume length. This dependence was attributed to simultaneous validations on the U and V channels of Doppler bursts coming from different particles within the measuring volume. The detailed analysis of the dynamical process of coin tossing is made. Through calculations, it is illustrated how and why the result is extremely sensitive to the initial conditions. It is also shown that, as the initial height of the mass center of the coin increases, the final configuration, i.e. head or tail, becomes more and more sensitive to the initial parameters (the initial velocity angular velocity, and the initial orientation), the coefficient of the air drag, and the energy absorption factor of the surface on which the coin bounces. If we keep the head upward initially but allow a small range for the change of some other initial parameters, the frequency that the final configuration is head, would be 1 if the initial height h of the mass center is sufficiently small, and would be clo to 1/2 if h is sufficiently large. An interesting question is how this frequency changes continuously from 1 to 1/2 as h increases. Detailed calculations show that such a transition is very similar to the transition from laminar to turbulent flows. A basic difference between the transition stage and the completely random stage is indicated: In the completely random stage, the deterministic process of the individual case is extremely sensitive to the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters, out the statistical properties of the ensemble are insensitive to the small changes of the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters. On the contrary, in the transition stage, both the deterministic process of the individual case and the statistical properties of the ensemble are sensitive to the initial conditions and the dynamical parameters. The mechanism for this feature of the transition stage is the existence of the long-train structure in the parameter space. The illuminations of this analysis on some other random phenomena are discussed.  相似文献

Summary TheCross equation describes the flow of pseudoplastic liquids in terms of an upper and a lower Newtonian viscosity corresponding to infinite and zero shear, and 0, and of a third material constant related to the mechanism of rupture of linkages between particles in the intermediate, non-Newtonian flow regime, Calculation of of bulk polymers is important, since it cannot be determined experimentally. The equation was applied to the melt flow data of two low density polyethylenes at three temperatures.Using data in the non-Newtonian region covering 3 decades of shear rate to extrapolate to the zero-shear viscosity resulted in errors amounting to about onethird of the measured 0 values. The extrapolated upper Newtonian viscosity was found to be independent of temperature within the precision of the data, indicating that it has a small activation energy.The 0 values were from 100 to 1,400 times larger than the values at the corresponding temperatures.The values of were large compared to the values found for colloidal dispersions and polymer solutions, but decreased with increasing temperature. This shows that shear is the main factor in reducing chain entanglements, but that the contribution of Brownian motion becomes greater at higher temperatures.
Zusammenfassung Die Gleichung vonCross beschreibt das Fließverhalten von pseudoplastischen Flüssigkeiten durch drei Konstante: Die obereNewtonsche Viskosität (bei sehr hohen Schergeschwindigkeiten), die untereNewtonsche Viskosität 0 (bei Scherspannung Null), und eine Materialkonstante, die vom Brechen der Bindungen zwischen Partikeln im nicht-Newtonschen Fließbereich abhängt. Die Berechnung von ist wichtig für unverdünnte Polymere, wo man sie nicht messen kann.Die Gleichung wurde auf das Fließverhalten der Schmelzen von zwei handelsüblichen Hochdruckpolyäthylenen bei drei Temperaturen angewandt. Die Werte von 0, durch Extrapolation von gemessenen scheinbaren Viskositäten im Schergeschwindigkeitsbereich von 10 bis 4000 sec–1 errechnet, wichen bis 30% von den gemessenen 0-Werten ab. Die Aktivierungsenergie der war so klein, daß die-Werte bei den drei Temperaturen innerhalb der Genauigkeit der Extrapolation anscheinend gleich waren. Die 0-Werte waren 100 bis 1400 mal größer als die-Werte.Im Verhältnis zu kolloidalen Dispersionen und verdünnten Polymerlösungen war das der Schmelzen groß, nahm aber mit steigender Temperatur ab. Deshalb wird die Verhakung der Molekülketten hauptsächlich durch Scherbeanspruchung vermindert, aber der Beitrag derBrownschen Bewegung nimmt mit steigender Temperatur zu.

In this paper, we show that the maximum principle holds for quasilinear elliptic equations with quadratic growth under general structure conditions.Two typical particular cases of our results are the following. On one hand, we prove that the equation (1) {ie77-01} where {ie77-02} and {ie77-03} satisfies the maximum principle for solutions in H 1()L(), i.e., that two solutions u 1, u 2H1() L() of (1) such that u 1u2 on , satisfy u 1u2 in . This implies in particular the uniqueness of the solution of (1) in H 0 1 ()L().On the other hand, we prove that the equation (2) {ie77-04} where fH–1() and g(u)>0, g(0)=0, satisfies the maximum principle for solutions uH1() such that g(u)¦Du|{2L1(). The deformation of particle image patterns due to velocity gradients causes errors of velocity measurements and false velocity detections in PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). A novel technique to overcome those limitations inherent in the conventional PIV by correcting the particle image pattern according to the local velocity gradients in two dimensional flows, i.e. u/x, u/y, v/x and v/y, is proposed and successfully applied to a water flow downstream of a backward facing step.  相似文献

A solution is obtained for the relationship between load, displacement and inner contact radius for an axisymmetric, spherically concave, rigid punch, indenting an elastic half-space. Analytic approximations are developed for the limiting cases in which the ratio of the inner and outer radii of the annular contact region is respectively small and close to unity. Übersicht Die Fehlervorhersage eines einachsigen Fadenverbundwerkstoffes mit metallischer Matrix erfordert die Kenntnis des nichtlinearen elastisch-plastischen Verhaltens in mikroskopischer Abmessung. Als Fallstudie wurde ein spezieller Verbundwerkstoff mit einem FEM-Programm untersucht. Im plastischen Bereich wurde das klassische, v. Mises Potential' mit dem neuen Übergangsfließpotential unter Berücksichtigung der plastischen Volumendehnung verglichen. Unter transversaler Normalbelastung zeigte der Verbund deutliche Unterschiede in der Zunahme und der Ausdehnung der lokalen plastischen Zonen. Alle kritischen Verformungsstadien wurden von dem Übergangsfließpotential bei geringerer Belastung erreicht.
Numerical investigation of the elastic-plastic behaviour of a fibre-reinforced composite with a metallic matrix
Summary Failure prediction of unidirectional fibre-reinforced composite with a metallic matrix needs knowledge about the nonlinear elastic-plastic behaviour in a microscopic scale. A specific composite was investigated using a FEM-program as a case study. In the plastic range the classical v. Mises Potential was compared with the new Transition Flow Potential, taking into account the plastic volume dilatation. Subjected to transverse normal loading the composite showed evident differences in the increase and the spread of locally plastic regions. All critical deformation states were reached by the Transition Flow Potential at lower loading.

This paper addresses the problem of the proper definition of temperature of a gas in nonequilibrium. It shows that the mean kinetic energy of the atoms of a rarefied gas is not a good measure for thethermodynamic temperature, because in general it jumps at a wall, and because it is nonmonotone in a onedimensional process of stationary heat conduction. The jump of the kinetic temperature is calculated and found to be about 5K in a rarefied gas. The basis for the calculations is provided by the arguments of extended thermodynamics of 14 moments. An essential tool is the minimax principle of entropy production recently postulated by Struchtrup Weiss [1], because it furnishes one important boundary condition.Sommario. Il lavoro riguarda la corretta definizione della temperatura di un gas in condizioni di nonequilibrio. Si mostra come lenergia cinetica media degli atomi di un gas rarefatto non sia una buona misura della temperatura termodinamica poiché in generale, essa risulta discontinua su una parete e nonmonotona in un processo unidimensionale di conduzione stazionaria del calore. Viene calcolato il salto della temperatura cinetica che risulta pari a circa 5K in un gas rarefatto. La base per il calcolo è fornita dal contesto della termodinamica estesa di 14 momenti. Zusammenfassung Es wird das Schub- und Normalspannungsverhalten verschiedener konzentrierter Polymerlösungen bei stationärer Scherung mit einer offenen Kegel-Platte-Anordnung in einem Mechanischen Spektrometer der Firma Rheometrics Inc. untersucht. Dabei wird festgestellt, daß an der freien Oberfläche des Meßfluids im Randbereich Einschnürungen auftreten, wenn das Geschwindigkeitsgefälle einen charakteristischen Wert überschreitet. Durch Bestimmung der Temperatur an der freien Oberfläche mit einem Strahlungsthermometer wird eine Beanspruchungsgrenze ermittelt, ab welcher mit merklichen Temperaturerhöhungen gerechnet werden muß.Es wird gefunden, daß beim Anlaufvorgang bei Anwendung hinreichend hoher Geschwindigkeitsgefälle nach dem Überschwingen (overshoot) der Spannungen noch ein Unterschwingen (undershoot) erfolgt, das auf das Wirksamwerden von Verfestigungsmechanismen in dem strömenden Fluid zurückzuführen ist. Diese Strömungsverfestigung wird in den untersuchten Polymerlösungen immer dann beobachtet, wenn das Verhältnis von erster Normalspannungsdifferenz zu Schubspannung einen Wert von ca. 10 überschreitet. Dieser Effekt läßt sich besonders eindrucksvoll an Lösungen von hochmolekularem Polyisobutylen (Oppanol B 200) nachweisen. Unter Heranziehung von Ergebnissen anderer Autoren wird erläutert, wieso bei Dehn- und Scherströmungen zwar ein sehr unterschiedliches Fließverhalten vorliegt, trotzdem aber ganz ähnliche Verfestigungsphänomene — Aggregation, Kristallisation, Entmischung — auftreten können. Weiterhin wird der Einfluß des gewählten Lösungsmittels sowie der Temperatur auf den Spannungsverlauf untersucht.In einem Anhang wird aus der Schubspannung und der ersten Normalspannungsdifferenz eine signifikante Vergleichsspannung sowie der Orientierungswinkel berechnet. Bei Zugrundelegung dieser Größen wird die bekannte Tatsache, daß die erste Normalspannungsdifferenz erst dann dominierenden Einfluß auf das Fließverhalten gewinnt, wenn sie die Schubspannung wesentlich übersteigt, ohne weiteres verständlich.
Summary The shear and normal stress behavior of several concentrated polymer solutions in steady shear flow is investigated by means of an open cone and plate arrangement of the Mechanical Spectrometer (Rheometrics Inc.) type. Deformations of the free gap surface are found if the shear rate is raised above a critical value. Sensitive temperature measurements of the liquid surface, carried out by means of a radiative pyrometer, yield a shear rate above which dissipation effects become appreciable.Start-up experiments in regions of sufficiently high shear rate show an additional undershoot after the initial overshoot. This undershot has to be attributed to mechanisms leading to a stiffening of the flowing liquid. Such a flow hardening can be observed in the investigated polymer solutions if the ratio of normal and shear stresses is of the order of 10 or more. It may be observed particularly impressively with concentrated solutions of a high molecular mass polyisobutylene (Oppanol B 200). From the results of other authors it is shown that elongational and shear flows despite their different kinematics, may produce similar hardening phenomena — aggregation, cristallisation, demixing. Furthermore, the influence of different solvents and temperature on the stress curves is discussed.In an appendix two quantities, a significant stress and an orientation angle are calculated from the shear and normal stresses. These quantities give an insight into the well known fact that the first normal stress difference has a dominating influence on the flow only when the normal stress difference is much greater than the shear stress.
