Determination of the wall slip velocity in the flow of a SBR compound   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Rubber compounds are known to exhibit slip at the wall in particular flow conditions. The slip velocity is usually determined by using the classical Mooney method. The rheological behavior of a styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) compound was studied with three different rheometers. Biconical rotational, capillary and slit die rheometers were used to define the true viscous behavior of the compound and the slip velocity. It was shown that it was impossible to apply the Mooney method to our experimental data. New characterizations were thus developed for both capillary and slit die experiments. They were based on the dependency of the slip velocity on the local flow gap. Contrarily to the Mooney method, they provided physically acceptable results and led to a power-law relationship between wall slip, wall shear stress and local geometry of the flow.  相似文献

The interfacial slip of the immiscible isotactic polypropylene/polystyrene (PS) blends with different morphologies was studied. The morphologies were obtained by choosing different PS contents (7, 21, and 55 vol%) and different processing methods (multilayered co-extrusion and conventional blending). The interfacial slip was obviously found in the multilayered morphology and the co-continuous morphology, but did not occur in the sea-island morphology. Besides, it was observed that the slip velocity of the multilayered system was higher than that of the conventional blends with co-continuous morphology and could be promoted with the increase of layer numbers. However, the interfacial slip in the multilayered system would be suppressed by the layer deformation and breaking during the test, when the thickness of layers was thin enough. The effect of composition on the interfacial slip velocity was also discussed in the multilayered composites.  相似文献

The effects of a velocity slip and an external magnetic field on the flow of biomagnetic fluid (blood) through a stenosed bifurcated artery are investigated by using ANSYS FLUENT. Blood is regarded as a non-Newtonian power-law fluid, and the magnetization and electrical conductivity are considered in the mathematical model. The no-slip condition is replaced by the first-order slip condition. The slip boundary condition and magnetic force are compiled in the solver by the user-defined function (UDF). Numerical solutions are obtained by the finite volume method based on a nonuniform grid structure. The accuracy and efficiency of the solver are verified through a comparison with the literature. The results are presented graphically for different parameter values, and the effects of the magnetic number, the magnetic source position, the vascular obstruction ratio, the slip parameter, and the power-law index on the flow and temperature fields are illustrated.  相似文献

An attempt is made to study a steady two-dimensional flow of a viscous incompressible fluid incident at some angle onto a plate lubricated with a thin layer of a power-law fluid. Similar and nonsimilar solutions of the governing partial differential equations are obtained numerically by imposing the continuity of velocity and shear stress at the interface layer between the fluid and the lubricant. The Keller box method is applied to obtain the solutions. The limiting cases for full and no-slip conditions are compared.  相似文献

The continuous extrusion of a metallocene linear low-density polyethylene through a transparent capillary die with and without slip was analyzed in this work by rheometrical measurements and particle image velocimetry (PIV). For this reason, a comparison was made between the rheological behaviors of the pure polymer and blended with a small amount of fluoropolymer polymer processing additive. Very good agreement was found between rheometrical and PIV measurements. The pure polymer exhibited stick-slip instabilities with nonhomogeneous slip at the die wall, whereas the blend showed stable flow. The slip velocity was measured directly from the velocity profiles and was negligible for the pure polymer before the stick-slip but increased monotonously as a function of the shear stress for the blend. The flow curves and the slip velocity as a function of the shear stress deviated from a power law and were well fitted by continuous “kink” functions. Comparison of PIV data with rheometrical ones permitted a direct proof of the basic assumption of the Mooney theory. Finally, the analysis of the velocity profiles showed that there is a maximum in the contribution of slip to the average fluid velocity, which is interpreted as the impossibility for the velocity profile to become plug like in the presence of shear thinning.  相似文献

In this paper visualisation and direct velocity profile measurement experiments for a branched polypropylene melt in a 10:1 axisymmetric contraction demonstrate the onset of wall slip. Video processing of the flow shows the formation of vortices and their diminution with increasing flow rate. Numerical simulations using a multimode K-BKZ viscoelastic and a purely viscous (Cross) model—both of them incorporating a nonlinear slip law—were used to predict the flow kinematics and dynamics as well as to deduce the slip velocity function by performing fitting to the velocity profiles. It was found that the numerical predictions agree well with the experimental results for the velocity profiles, and vortex formation, growth and reduction. It is suggested that such experiments (visualisation of entrance flow and direct velocity profile measurement) can be useful in evaluating the validity of constitutive equations and slip laws in the flow of polymer melts through processing equipment.  相似文献

Evaluation of wall slip phenomena during the horizontal pipeline flow of air/lubricating grease mixtures was investigated. With this aim, pressure drop measurements have been carried out along pipelines with different diameter and roughness. A modified Jastrzebski's equation for the slip velocity, based on the introduction of the relative roughness, has been used to correct wall slip effects for a lithium lubricating grease/air system. This expression has been introduced in the classical Rabinowitsch–Mooney treatment and applied to the superficial liquid velocity instead of the single-phase average velocity following a single-phase treatment analogy. Thus, the non-slip flow curve data for the two-phase mixture were obtained from roughened pipes and compared with those obtained from pipes with smooth internal surfaces. The effect of air on the extension of wall slip has been established as a function of air flow rate. Thus, the consideration of the reduction of the wetted pipe surface as air is injected allows an adequate explanation of this phenomenon, confirmed by the reduction of the effective slip contribution on the observed apparent shear rate. A power-law relationship between the slip velocity and the wall shear stress has been deduced, although this tends asymptotically to linearity as air flow rate is increased.  相似文献

We obtain an expression for the energy dissipation due to an evolving nonmaterial interface across which the mass density, velocity, stress, energy density, heat flux, entropy density, and temperature may be discontinuous. This expression is a sum of three terms: the product of the interfacial mass flux with the interfacial energy release; the scalar product of the interfacial velocity slip with the interfacial friction; and, the product of the interfacial temperature jump, scaled by the interfacial temperature average, with the interfacial heating. When the surface in question is a phase interface, we propose, on the basis of the interfacial dissipation inequality, supplemental relations that determine the interfacial energy release, the interfacial friction, and the interfacial heating constitutively as functions of the interfacial mass flux, the interfacial velocity slip, and the scaled interfacial temperature jump. As a step toward an understanding of the role that such interfacial relations may serve in theories for phase transitions, we investigate a problem involving the solidification of a pure substance in the absence of flow. We study a dynamic interfacial slip phenomenon in filled polymer melts. When a poly(dimethyl siloxane) melt of weight average molecular weight M w = 93 700 is mixed with glass beads of diameter up to 45 m, the sample shows some evidence of breakdown of interfacial adhesion between the glass beads and the PDMS matrix at a level of oscillatory stress under which the pure PDMS melt exhibits no decay. The decay of viscoelastic properties with time is essentially independent of the amplitude of shear strain as long as the magnitude of the oscillating stress is sufficiently high. It is suggested that much higher local stress than the apparent applied stress may be generated between the narrowly spaced beads. The interfacial slip was observable because it was measured against a natural length scale d in the filled polymer melts which is the filler size or the inter-filler distance and is much smaller than the dimensions of the flow cell. The decay under high stress and healing of interfacial adhesion upon a large reduction in stress may be related to the de-bonding and reformation of hydrogen bonds between the PDMS chains and the glass bead surfaces.  相似文献

Analytical solutions are derived for various start-up Newtonian Poiseuille flows assuming that slip at the wall occurs when the wall shear stress exceeds a critical value, known as the slip yield stress. Two distinct regimes characterise the steady axisymmetric and planar flows, which are defined by a critical value of the pressure gradient. If the imposed pressure gradient is below this critical value, the classical no-slip, start-up solution holds. Otherwise, no-slip flow occurs only initially, for a finite time interval determined by a critical time, after which slip does occur. For the annular case, there is an additional intermediate (steady) flow regime where slip occurs only at the inner wall, and hence, there exist two critical values of the pressure gradient. If the applied pressure gradient exceeds both critical values, the velocity evolves initially with no-slip at both walls up to the first critical time, then with slip only along the inner wall up to the second critical time and finally with slip at both walls.  相似文献

A slip analysis has been developed to calculate the slip velocities from the capillary rheometry data for a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) gum, and two silicon rubber compounds. The analysis generalises the classical Mooney method [J. Rheol. 2 (1931) 210–222] to incorporate the influence of die geometry on the slip behaviour. For the PDMS gum, no slippage was observed below a stress level of about 60 kPa, and there was a jump in the slip velocity at a stress level of about 80 kPa. The complex rheological behaviour of the rubbers meant that the analysis was only applicable at higher stress levels. For each material, a reasonable fit to the slip velocity was obtained using a generalised Navier slip law, which can easily be implemented into computational fluid dynamic simulations. Ultimately, a more realistic slip law is required to model the observed flow behaviour correctly.  相似文献

We solve analytically the cessation flows of a Newtonian fluid in circular and plane Couette geometries assuming that wall slip occurs provided that the wall shear stress exceeds a critical threshold, the slip yield stress. In steady-state, slip occurs only beyond a critical value of the angular velocity of the rotating inner cylinder in circular Couette flow or of the speed of the moving upper plate in plane Couette flow. Hence, in cessation, the classical no-slip solution holds if the corresponding wall speed is below the critical value. Otherwise, slip occurs only initially along both walls. Beyond a first critical time, slip along the fixed wall ceases, and beyond a second critical time slip ceases also along the initially moving wall. Beyond this second critical time no slip is observed and the decay of the velocity is faster. The velocity decays exponentially in all regimes and the decay is reduced with slip. The effects of slip and the slip yield stress are discussed.  相似文献

The squeeze flow of a rigid-plastic medium between parallel disks is considered for small gaps with partial wall slip. The stress distribution and the squeeze force between parallel disks of a rigid-plastic medium with the following four different slip boundary conditions are obtained. (1) The Coulombic friction condition is applied, and the stress distribution on the wall is derived, which is linear or exponential distribution in the no-slip area or slip area. (2) It is assumed that the slip velocity at the disks increases linearly with the radius up to the rim slip velocity, with the stress distribution and the squeeze force gained. (3) The assumption that the slip velocity at the disks is related to the shear stress component is used, with the stress distribution and the squeeze force obtained, which is equivalent to the result given in (2). (4) Rational velocity components are introduced, and the stress distribution is satisfied.  相似文献

By generalizing the Doi-Edwards model to the Molecular Stress Function theory of Wagner and Schaeffer, the extensional viscosities of polyolefin melts in uniaxial, equibiaxial and planar constant strain-rate experiments starting from the isotropic state can be described quantitatively. While the strain hardening of four linear polymer melts (two high-density polyethylenes, a polystyrene and a polypropylene) can be accounted for by a tube diameter that decreases affinely with the average stretch, the two long-chain-branched polymer melts considered (a low-density polyethylene and a long-chain branched polypropylene) show enhanced strain hardening in extensional flows due to the presence of long-chain branches. This can be quantified by a molecular stress function, the square of which is quadratic in the average stretch and which follows from the junction fluctuation theory of Flory. The ultimate magnitude of the strain-hardening effect is governed by a maximum value of the molecular stress, which is specific to the polymer melt considered and which is the only free non-linear parameter of the theory. Pressure drop and liquid hold-up are two very important fluid flow parameters in design and control of multiphase flow pipelines. Friction factors play an important role in the accurate calculation of pressure drop. Various empirical and semi-empirical closure relations exist in the literature to calculate the liquid-wall, gas-wall and interfacial friction in two-phase pipe flow. However most of them are empirical correlations found under special experimental conditions. In this paper by modification of a friction model available in the literature, an improved semiempirical model is proposed. The proposed model is incorporated in the two-fluid correlations under equilibrium conditions and solved. Pressure gradient and velocity profiles are validated against experimental data. Using the improved model, the pressure gradient deviation from experiments diminishes by about 3%; the no-slip condition at the interface is satisfied and the velocity profile is predicted in better agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

Stokes and Couette flows produced by an oscillatory motion of a wall are analyzed under conditions where the no-slip assumption between the wall and the fluid is no longer valid. The motion of the wall is assumed to have a generic sinusoidal behavior. The exact solutions include both steady periodic and transient velocity profiles. It is found that slip conditions between the wall and the fluid produces lower amplitudes of oscillations in the flow near the oscillating wall than when no-slip assumption is utilized. Further, the relative velocity between the fluid layer at the wall and the speed of the wall is found to overshoot at a specific oscillating slip parameter or vibrational Reynolds number at certain times. In addition, it is found that wall slip reduces the transient velocity for Stokes flow while minimum transient effects for Couette flow is achieved only for large and small values of the wall slip coefficient and the gap thickness, respectively. The time needed to reach to steady periodic Stokes flow due to sine oscillations is greater than that for cosine oscillations with both wall slip and no-slip conditions.  相似文献

An analytical study of the entropy generation rate and heat transfer in a flow of immiscible couple stress fluids between two horizontal parallel plates under a constant pressure gradient is performed. Both plates are kept at different and constant temperatures higher than that of the fluid. The Stokes couple stress flow model is employed. The classical no-slip condition is prescribed at the plates, and continuity of the velocity, rotation, couple stress, shear stress, temperature, and heat flux is imposed at the interfaces. The velocity and temperature distributions are found analytically, and they are used to compute the entropy generation number and Bejan number. The effects of the couple stress parameter and Reynolds number on the velocity, temperature, entropy generation number, and Bejan number are investigated. It is observed that the friction near the plates in couple stress fluids decreases as the couple stress increases.  相似文献

The design of micro-devices involving aerosol transport requires the study of the deposition of aerosols in micro-channels. In this study, the slip and no-slip boundary conditions for the gas flow regime were applied to the Navier-Stokes equations to obtain the particle deposition in simple and converging-diverging micro-channels. The equation of particle motion included inertial, viscous, Brownian, and gravity terms. It was found that the ratio of gravity to inertial effects controls the deposition of particles with diameters of 0.1-1 μm, and the ratio of diffusion to inertial effects controls the deposition of particles with diameters of 0.01-0.001 i~m. Comparison between the no-slip and slip flow regimes showed that the deposition of 0.1- to 1-μm-diameter particles was less and the deposition of 0.01- to 0.001-1μm-diameter particles was greater for the slip flow regime. There was no significant difference between slip and no-slip flow regimes for the deposition of 0.01- to 0.1-μm-diameter particles. Finally, it was shown that the stagnated gas in the corners of the converging-diverging micro-channel produced similar gas velocity profiles under the slip and no-slip flow regimes.  相似文献

Determination of co-seismic slip resistance in earth faults is critical for understanding the magnitude of shear-stress reduction and hence the near-fault acceleration that can occur during earthquakes. Also, knowledge of shear resistance dependency on slip velocity, slip distance, normal stress, and surface roughness is fundamental information for understanding earthquake physics and the energy released during such events. In the present study, plate-impact pressure-shear friction experiments are employed to investigate the frictional resistance in fine-grained Arkansas novaculite rock and an analog material (soda-lime glass), under relevant interfacial conditions. The results of the experiments indicate that a wide range of frictional slip conditions can exist during a single slip event. These conditions range from initial no-slip followed by slip weakening, strengthening, and seizure at the frictional interface. For the case of glass vs. glass experiments, the first slip-weakening, with μ in the range of 0.4-0.2, is understood to be most likely due to thermal-induced flash heating and incipient melting at asperity junctions, while the slip-strengthening, with μ in the range of 0.1-0.4, is understood to be a result of coalescence and solidification of local melt patches. For the case of the fine grain Arkansas Novaculite rocks a similar range of slip conditions is observed.  相似文献
