Let R ∈ Cn×n be a nontrivial involution, i.e., R2 = I and R ≠ ±I. A matrix A ∈ Cn×n is called R-skew symmetric if RAR = −A. The least-squares solutions of the matrix inverse problem for R-skew symmetric matrices with R∗ = R are firstly derived, then the solvability conditions and the solutions of the matrix inverse problem for R-skew symmetric matrices with R∗ = R are given. The solutions of the corresponding optimal approximation problem with R∗ = R for R-skew symmetric matrices are also derived. At last an algorithm for the optimal approximation problem is given. It can be seen that we extend our previous results [G.X. Huang, F. Yin, Matrix inverse problem and its optimal approximation problem for R-symmetric matrices, Appl. Math. Comput. 189 (2007) 482-489] and the results proposed by Zhou et al. [F.Z. Zhou, L. Zhang, X.Y. Hu, Least-square solutions for inverse problem of centrosymmetric matrices, Comput. Math. 设 R∈Cm×m 及 S∈Cn×n 是非平凡Hermitian酉矩阵, 即 RH=R=R-1≠±Im ,SH=S=S-1≠±In.若矩阵 A∈Cm×n 满足 RAS=A, 则称矩阵 A 为广义反射矩阵.该文考虑线性流形上的广义反射矩阵反问题及相应的最佳逼近问题.给出了反问题解的一般表示, 得到了线性流形上矩阵方程AX2=Z2, Y2H A=W2H 具有广义反射矩阵解的充分必要条件, 导出了最佳逼近问题唯一解的显式表示.  相似文献

本文研究了Sylvester复矩阵方程A_1Z+ZB_1=c_1的广义自反最佳逼近解.利用复合最速下降法,提出了一种的迭代算法.不论矩阵方程A_1Z+ZB_1=C_1是否相容,对于任给初始广义自反矩阵Z_0,该算法都可以计算出其广义自反的最佳逼近解.最后,通过两个数值例子,验证了该算法的可行性.  相似文献

In this paper we study the class of square matrices A such that AA − AA is nonsingular, where A stands for the Moore-Penrose inverse of A. Among several characterizations we prove that for a matrix A of order n, the difference AA − AA is nonsingular if and only if R(A)R(A)=Cn,1, where R(·) denotes the range space. By employing a generalized Riccati technique and an integral averaging technique, new oscillation criteria are established for the linear matrix Hamiltonian system U′=A(x)U+B(x)V, V′=C(x)U−A∗(x)V under the assumption that all A(x), B(x)=B∗(x)>0, and C(x)=C∗(x) are n×n matrices of real-valued continuous functions on the interval I=[x0,∞) (−∞<x0). These criteria extend, improve, and unify a number of existing results and also handle cases not covered by known criteria. Several interesting examples that illustrate the importance of our results are included.  相似文献

Let J=Ir-In-r,0<r<n. An n×n complex matrix A is said to be J-Hermitian if JA=AJ. An extension of the classical theory of Courant and Fischer on the Rayleigh ratio of Hermitian matrices is stated for J-Hermitian matrices. Suppose that p(XY) = A − BX − X(∗)B(∗) − CYC(∗) and q(XY) = A − BX + X(∗)B(∗) − CYC(∗) are quaternion matrix expressions, where A is persymmetric or perskew-symmetric. We in this paper derive the minimal rank formula of p(XY) with respect to pair of matrices X and Y = Y(∗), and the minimal rank formula of q(XY) with respect to pair of matrices X and Y = −Y(∗). As applications, we establish some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the general (persymmetric or perskew-symmetric) solutions to some well-known linear quaternion matrix equations. The expressions are also given for the corresponding general solutions of the matrix equations when the solvability conditions are satisfied. At the same time, some useful consequences are also developed.  相似文献

Given partitions R and S with the same weight, the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence establishes a bijection between the class A(R,S) of (0, 1)-matrices with row sum R and column sum S and pairs of Young tableaux of conjugate shapes λ and λ, with S?λ?R. An algorithm for constructing a matrix in A(R,S) whose insertion tableau has a prescribed shape λ, with S?λ?R, is provided. We generalize some recent constructions due to R. We study determinant inequalities for certain Toeplitz-like matrices over C. For fixed n and N ? 1, let Q be the n × (n + N − 1) zero-one Toeplitz matrix with Qij = 1 for 0 ? j − i ? N − 1 and Qij = 0 otherwise. We prove that det(QQ) is the minimum of det(RR) over all complex matrices R with the same dimensions as Q satisfying ∣Rij∣ ? 1 whenever Qij = 1 and Rij = 0 otherwise. Although R has a Toeplitz-like band structure, it is not required to be actually Toeplitz. Our proof involves Alexandrov’s inequality for polarized determinants and its generalizations. This problem is motivated by Littlewood’s conjecture on the minimum 1-norm of N-term exponential sums on the unit circle. We also discuss polarized Bazin-Reiss-Picquet identities, some connections with k-tree enumeration, and analogous conjectured inequalities for the elementary symmetric functions of QQ.  相似文献

Until now the concept of a Soules basis matrix of sign patternN consisted of an orthogonal matrix RRn,n, generated in a certain way from a positive n-vector, which has the property that for any diagonal matrix Λ = diag(λ1, … , λn), with λ1 ? ? ? λn ? 0, the symmetric matrix A = RΛRT has nonnegative entries only. In the present paper we introduce the notion of a pair of double Soules basis matrices of sign patternN which is a pair of matrices (PQ), each in Rn,n, which are not necessarily orthogonal and which are generated in a certain way from two positive vectors, but such that PQT = I and such that for any of the aforementioned diagonal matrices Λ, the matrix A = PΛQT (also) has nonnegative entries only. We investigate the interesting properties which such matrices A have.As a preamble to the above investigation we show that the iterates, , generated in the course of the QR-algorithm when it is applied to A = RΛRT, where R is a Soules basis matrix of sign pattern N, are again symmetric matrices generated by the Soules basis matrices Rk of sign pattern N which are themselves modified as the algorithm progresses.Our work here extends earlier works by Soules and Elsner et al.  相似文献

We consider a free boundary problem modeling tumor growth in fluid-like tissue. The model equations include a diffusion equation for the nutrient concentration, and the Stokes equation with a source which represents the proliferation of tumor cells. The proliferation rate μ and the cell-to-cell adhesiveness γ which keeps the tumor intact are two parameters which characterize the “aggressiveness” of the tumor. For any positive radius R there exists a unique radially symmetric stationary solution with radius r=R. For a sequence μ/γ=Mn(R) there exist symmetry-breaking bifurcation branches of solutions with free boundary r=R+εYn,0(θ)+O(ε2) (n even ?2) for small |ε|, where Yn,0 is the spherical harmonic of mode (n,0). Furthermore, the smallest Mn(R), say Mn(R), is such that n=n(R)→∞ as R→∞. In this paper we prove that the radially symmetric stationary solution with R=RS is linearly stable if μ/γ<N(RS,γ) and linearly unstable if μ/γ>N(RS,γ), where N(RS,γ)?Mn(RS), and we prove that strict inequality holds if γ is small or if γ is large. The biological implications of these results are discussed at the end of the paper.  相似文献

Some new oscillation criteria are established for the matrix linear Hamiltonian system X′=A(t)X+B(t)Y, Y′=C(t)X−A∗(t)Y under the hypothesis: A(t), B(t)=B∗(t)>0, and C(t)=C∗(t) are n×n real continuous matrix functions on the interval [t0,∞), (−∞<t0). In this paper we will give necessary and sufficient conditions under which a map is a contraction on a certain subset of a normed linear space. These conditions are already well known for maps on intervals in R. Using the conditions and Banach’s fixed point theorem we can prove a fixed point theorem for operators on a normed linear space. The fixed point theorem will be applied to the matrix equation X = In + Af(X)A, where f is a map on the set of positive definite matrices induced by a real valued map on (0, ∞). This will give conditions on A and f under which the equation has a unique solution in a certain set. We will consider two examples of f in detail. In one example the application of the fixed point theorem is the first step in proving that the equation has a unique positive definite solution under the conditions on A.  相似文献

Let be an affine R-monoid scheme. We prove that the category of dual functors (over the category of commutative R-algebras) of G-modules is equivalent to the category of dual functors of A-modules. We prove that G is invariant exact if and only if A=R×B as R-algebras and the first projection AR is the unit of A. Let F be a division ring and A?GLn(F). We determine the smallest integer k such that A admits a factorization A=R1R2?Rk?1B, where R1,…,Rk?1 are reflections and B is such that rank(B?In)=1. We find that, apart from two very special exceptional cases, k=rank(A?In). In the exceptional cases k is one larger than this rank. The first exceptional case is the matrices A of the form ImαIn?m where n?m?2, α≠?1, and α belongs to the center of F. The second exceptional case is the matrices A satisfying (A?In)2=0, rank(A?In)?2 in the case when char F≠2 only. This result is used to determine, in the case when F is commutative, the length of a matrix A?GLn(F) with detA=±1 with respect to the set of all reflections in GLn(F).  相似文献

An n × n matrix A is called involutory iff A2=In, where In is the n × n identity matrix. This paper is concerned with involutory matrices over an arbitrary finite commutative ring R with identity and with the similarity relation among such matrices. In particular the authors seek a canonical set C with respect to similarity for the n × n involutory matrices over R—i.e., a set C of n × n involutory matrices over R with the property that each n × n involutory matrix over R is similar to exactly on matrix in C. Because of the structure of finite commutative rings and because of previous research, they are able to restrict their attention to finite local rings of characteristic a power of 2, and although their main result does not completely specify a canonical set C for such a ring, it does solve the problem for a special class of rings and shows that a solution to the general case necessarily contains a solution to the classically unsolved problem of simultaneously bringing a sequence A1,…,Av of (not necessarily involutory) matrices over a finite field of characteristic 2 to canonical form (using the same similarity transformation on each Ai). (More generally, the authors observe that a theory of similarity fot matrices over an arbitrary local ring, such as the well-known rational canonical theory for matrices over a field, necessarily implies a solution to the simultaneous canonical form problem for matrices over a field.) In a final section they apply their results to find a canonical set for the involutory matrices over the ring of integers modulo 2m and using this canonical set they are able to obtain a formula for the number of n × n involutory matrices over this ring.  相似文献

Furtado, A generalization of Sylvester’s law of inertia, Linear Algebra Appl. 338 (2001) 287-290], Sylvester’s law of inertia is generalized to any matrix that is ∗-congruent to a diagonal matrix.
