Conclusion The suggested numerical method makes it possible to plot the distribution functions of the bearing capacity of RSF at the structural level of their design elements (rim, spokes) with a view to the scatter of the strength and strain properties of the used materials and the geometry of arrangement of the structure. This involves taking into account the random nature of the radial distribution in the rim material of both strain and strength properties, which makes it possible to investigate more fully the processes of failure really occurring in RSF. The suggested method is the basis for stipulating a scientifically substantiated safety factor (the theoretical bearing capacity) in dependence on the required reliability; this makes it possible to use a differentiated approach to problems of devising RSF for actual purposes. The behavior of defects of the near-surface crack type was investigated in laminated composites. Multilayered delaminations in compressed elements were examined on the assumption that cylindrical bending of the delamination is accompanied by shear within the framework of a model similar to the Timoshenko model. The effect of the mechanical properties and thickness and number of layers in the delaminated section on the critical buckling strain and strain corresponding to the beginning of growth of the delamination was investigated. It was shown that when the delaminated section contains several bearing layers and the rigidity of the composite with respect to interlaminar shear is small, consideration of the shear in the delaminated section can lead to a significant change in the critical compressive strains and/or critical size of the delamination.Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov. Conclusion An analytical approach based on certain assumptions regarding the character of the kinematic relations and equilibrium conditions was developed to calculate the stress-strain state of naturally twisted rods of composite materials. A computer program for calculating the stress and strain parameters in each layer was also developed. The results of calculations performed in accordance with the linearized variant (Eq. (5)) of general relations (4) agree satisfactorily with experimental data within a broad range of acting longitudinal loads.
