When CS2, contained in a tube at pressures ranging from 350 to 450 mTorr, was optically excited by a pulsed laser at a wavelength of 343.6 nm to the J=29, v=(0, 10, 0), R 3 B 2 state (i.e., the =0 component of the a 3 A 2 state), six coherent emissions were observed along the same axis from both ends of the tube. These emissions possess the characteristics of the pump laser, such as linewidth, pulse duration and polarization, but do not need a cavity to gain amplification. The emissions terminate on the high vibrational states of the ground electronic state. A time delay between the pump laser and the emissions was observed. The emission intensity depends non-linearly on the CS2 pressure and exhibits a third order power dependence. A cooperative stimulated emission model is proposed to explain this phenomenon.  相似文献

It is shown by numerical analysis based on Lamb's equations of motion, that standing-wave lasers with purely homogeneously broadened emission lines exhibit regular multimode oscillations. Specifically, modes lying far from the line centre are quenched due to mode competition, and the amplitudes of the oscillating modes approach steady-state values. The stabilization of the amplitudes is normally accompanied, or followed, by an evolution of the phases towards a phase-locked regime, where the relative phases n = 2 n n + 1 n – 1 [ n phase in then th mode, defined by (6)] attain either the value 0 or ± . The build-up times for the relative phases are found to vary over a wide range.  相似文献

A comprehensive control system has been developed for the stabilization of internalmirror He-Ne lasers to their power envelopes. It is designed particularly for use with lasers emitting at 552, 505, or 490 THz (543, 594, 612 nm). The aim has been to combine convenience in routine operation with good day-to-day resettability and minimal frequency drift during a day. The lasers are observed to emit in up to four modes simultaneously and their tuning behaviour is highly alignment-sensitive. They also tend to flip between modes having orthogonal linear planes of polarization. Reliable control of polarization and mode frequency are possible using permanent magnets and active length control through thermal expansion. The stabilized single-frequency outputs have frequency drifts of about 2×10–8 per year, and powers of between 150 W and 850 W.  相似文献

Frequency stabilization to the gain profile of an internal mirror He–Ne laser emitting at 543.5 nm wavelength is described. The dependence of the power and polarization on frequency was investigated for multi-mode and two-mode operation. The emitted laser modes are linearly polarized. Two orthogonal eigenpolarizations fixed to the laser tube were observed. Spontaneous switching between these polarizations occurred when the laser frequency was scanning through the gain profile. In two-mode operation, these polarization flips have been suppressed by applying a weak magnetic field transversal to the gas discharge. Under such operation conditions the frequencies of the laser could be stabilized to the gain profile by controlling the power difference of the two modes to zero. The fractional frequency reproducibility is in the region of f/f3×10–8.  相似文献

We report on measurements of periodic and chaotic self-pulsing beyond the second threshold of far-infrared NH3 lasers. While the instabilities of the 81 m14NH3 laser follow a simple pattern, for the 374 m15NH3 laser different pulsing properties are found in different parameter ranges.Pulses under conditions of high pumping power are measured in detail, in view of possible applications of these coherent, high-repetition rate far-infrared pulsed lasers.  相似文献

Based on the expansion of the fundamental mode LP01 in single mode fiber in terms of Laguerre-Gaussian free space modes, the feedback coupling losses for two different types of cavity mirror, i.e., a curvature mirror and a combing mirror of a lens and a plane mirror, are numerically calculated for the first time. The results show that, for the curvature mirror, the lowest coupling loss is obtained when its curvature radius matches the wavefront curvature. In particular, if a plane mirror is used as the cavity mirror, it has to be placed close to the fiber end to obtain the low coupling loss. For the combing mirror, the lowest coupling loss can be obtained when the plane mirror is placed at the back focal plane of the lens, and the variation of the coupling loss is insensitive to the mirror positions for the lens with longer focal length. Finally, the plane mirror and the combing mirror of a lens and a plane mirror are suggested to be the cavity mirror in the practical construction of the high power fiber lasers.  相似文献

Injection-locking characteristics of an ArF excimer oscillator-amplifier laser are described including the use of stable-unstable optical cavities. Output intensities of 1 MW cm–2 have been produced with 3 mJ output energy, a spectral linewidth better than 5×10–3 nm and an injection locking efficiency of 0.9.  相似文献

Amplitude and frequency stability of an injection-locked diode-pumped miniature Nd:YAG ring laser were measured. The mechanism of amplitude-noise transfer to the injection-locked slave laser was experimentally investigated and consequences for the injection locking of solid-state lasers operating at high output powers are discussed.  相似文献

In this article we have, for the first time, performed a series of lifetime tests for the continuous wave radiofrequency-excited atomic xenon laser in the 1.7–3.9 μm regime. Different constructions and electrode materials are used to investigate the usefulness of this laser during long-term sealed-off operation. The influence of electrode material on wall–plasma interactions and the effect of gas impurities on the long-term operation of the laser are investigated and discussed. The production of optical pulses with very stable time delays is considered. The method is based upon phase synchronization of the pulse frequency of a self-mode-locked laser by means of an external generator with very high frequency stability. Transversely pumped 1 cm long crystals are operated in a plan-parallel cavity with dielectric mirrors of 100% and 30% reflectivity. Relaxation-oscillations in the laser emission at 540 nm with frequencies in the range of (1 to 1.8)·109 s–1 are observed. 24 infrared laser lines on atomic and ionic transitions have been observed in recombining plasmas by vaporizing and ionizing Cd, Pb, Sn, Zn, and Mg with low energy Nd:YAG or excimer pump-lasers. For operation and optimization of the recombination lasers separated plasma spots and a plasma confinement have been used. We discuss our recent experiments that aim at the realization of coupling between a nano-emitter that is placed at the extremity of a sharp glass-fiber tip and a high-Q whispering-gallery mode. We quantify the influence of the tip using different probes and modes of a microsphere with different quality factors and mode extensions. Our measurements show that a micron-sized tip results in a substantial perturbation of the modes. On the contrary, by using a tip of diameter about 100 nm it should be possible to couple a nanoparticle to the most-confined modes of a microsphere without spoiling quality factors even as high as 108. We investigate a scheme of atomic quantum memory to store photonic qubits of polarization in cavity QED. It is observed that the quantum state swapping between a single-photon pulse and a Λ-type atom can be made via scattering in an optical cavity [T. W. Chen, C. K. Law, P. T. Leung, Phys. Rev. A 69 (2004) 063810]. This swapping operates limitedly in the strong coupling regime for Λ-type atoms with equal dipole couplings. We extend this scheme in cavity QED to present a more feasible and efficient method for quantum memory combined with projective measurement. This method works without requiring such a condition on the dipole couplings. The fidelity is significantly higher than that of the swapping, and even in the moderate coupling regime it reaches almost unity by narrowing sufficiently the photon-pulse spectrum. This high performance is rather unaffected by the atomic loss, cavity leakage or detunings, while a trade-off is paid in the success probability for projective measurement.  相似文献

The properties of distributed feedback dye lasers as novel sources for wavelength tunable ultrashort pulses in the visible and ultraviolet range are studied. Calculated and measured energy characteristics of the laser are in very good agreement. The shot-to-shot stability of the single ultrashort pulses has been measured to be ±7.1%.  相似文献

From line narrowing in amplified spontaneous emission at the D-X transition (269nm) of XeF in solid Ne a gain coefficient of 3.4 cm–1 has been derived and ground-state losses of 2.8 cm–1 have been determined by variation of the absorption length. A dielectric laser cavity has been optimized with the reflectivities R1=100% and R2=70% for 1 cm long crystals; laser action has been achieved.  相似文献

We have analyzed and measured the thermal lens of the copper-vapor laser by considering both its windows and active medium. The equivalent combined focal length varies with operation parameters and it is sensitive to the laser geometry. The results are verified by our measurements on a 20 W device with 35 mm internal diameter tube. The thermal lens effects on the beam properties are analyzed and verified with the experiments for both oscillator and laser chain case.  相似文献
