The lifetime technique has been used for the first time to measure the muon capture rate in ultra-pure liquid deuterium. In this article we report the results of an experiment performed in 1993 at PSI. The goal was to determine the absolute rate of nuclear muon capture by3He. In the experiment we used a new technique recently developed at Gatchina. As a preliminary result from this experiment we obtained c=(1496±3(stat)-3(syst)) s–1.  相似文献

The time and energy spectra of γ rays, accompanying negative muon capture in a 40Ar target, have been measured using Ge detectors. The results of measuring the muon lifetime in 40Ar and yields of different Cl and S isotopes at μ capture are reported.  相似文献

The contribution of the axial meson exchange current effects to the doublet transition rate in the reaction μ? +d → 2n+ νμ is calculated by using the minimal, chiral and approximately gauge invariant Lagrangian model for the A1ρπ system. The contribution from the ρ-π weak decay process current usually considered is found to be nearly cancelled by that from the A1 pole graph which is prescribed by the underlying invariance principles. Correct treatment of the N1 propagator in the N1 excitation current of the pion range leads to ≈ 30 % suppression of the N1 effect.  相似文献

Muon capture rate in muonic deuterium can be calculated with less ambiguities in nuclear wave functions, since we know the bound and scattering states of the two nucleons with higher accuracy theoretically. It is, however, dependent on the pion-nucleon-delta coupling constant through the exchange current effect. This dependence is considerably reduced for the ratio of the capture rates from two hyperfine states of muonic deuterium. This ratio is, therefore, useful to study the strength of the induced pseudoscalar term. Several other physical quantities in light nuclei are also introduced here for the same purpose.  相似文献

The muon capture rates are calculated for a series of nuclei, using the Hartree-Fock randomphase approximation, and compared with experiment. The recoil term, the binding energy of the muon and finite size effects are calculated in detail. In a schematic model, the validity of the assumption M2V = M2A = M2P is studied, and found to hold reasonably well even for nuclei as heavy as 208Pb.  相似文献

The reaction μ + d → 2n + vμ is studied in the non-relativistic approximation using the Primakoff weak interaction Hamiltonian including relativistic corrections. The neutron-neutron interaction is treated (a) by the Om?es-Muskhelishvili equation, (b) in a potential model, (c) using the Bethe-Longmire procedure. The rate Λ S of nuclear muon capture by a proton from the hyperfine singlet ground state of the µp atom has been measured using a new experimental method based on a time-projection chamber operating in an ultrapure hydrogen gas at a pressure of 10 atm. The capture rate has been determined from the difference between the measured lifetime of the negative muon in hydrogen and the world average lifetime of the positive muon. The analysis of 10% of the collected statistics (2 × 1010) of µe decays yields the muon capture rate Λ S = 725.0 ± 17.4 s?1, from which the pseudoscalar form factor of the nucleon, g P (q c 2 = ?0.88m µ 2 ) = 7.3 ± 1.1, is determined. The further analysis of the collected experimental data should improve the precision of this measurement by a factor of 3.  相似文献

We compute the partial capture rate of negative muons in3He by following the analysis of Peterson to include the relativistic corrections and the exchange effects, for various values of theg p /g A ratio. We also calculate the total capture rate. The ground state of3He is assumed to be spherical. The radial dependence of the ground state wave function is taken to be (a) one parameter Irving function, (b) a modified three-parameter Irving function and (c) a function having ‘soft-core’, whose parameters have been fixed in a variational calculation of the binding energy of the triton using a non-local momentum-dependent potential involvingp 2 terms. The calculated values of the capture rates are compared with the experimental data to find a value for theg p /g A ratio.  相似文献

在神光Ⅱ高功率激光装置上建立了液氘状态方程实验研究系统, 在80 min内实现控温范围12–300 K可调、控温精度±0.03 K、机械震动 ≤20 μm的实验控制精度; 通过镀膜窗口质量筛选和靶体清洁工作解决了低温下窗口材料残余反射率高的难题, 获得了信噪比较好的实验图像; 利用神光II第九路输出3ω (351 nm)、3 ns、1000 J的能力, 采用阻抗匹配方法, 配合任意反射面速度干涉仪诊断系统, 在国内首次获得液氘在约60 GPa压力下的冲击绝热线实验数据, 数据与国外同压力区间数据符合较好, 为下阶段约100 GPa压力范围液氘状态方程的实验研究奠定了基础.  相似文献

Radiative muon capture in nuclei is thoroughly investigated in view of its sensitivity to the pseudoscalar coupling constant gP. In the photon energy domain of interest (k ? 60 MeV) the effective one-body hamiltonian in use is shown essentially to hold true, with minor corrections due to the muon propagator in the nuclear field and to the two-step process. The closure approximation is avoided by appropriately integrating the response function calculated in the Fermi gas model, in the energy-momentum transfer plane.Theoretical predictions in medium-heavy nuclei of the high-energy photon spectrum, of photon polarization, and of muon-spin photon angular correlation are given for various values of the pseudoscalar coupling constant.  相似文献

Proton inducedL X-ray yields from thick targets of In, Sn, Nd, Dy, Pt and Au have been measured in the energy range 1–3 MeV. Cross-sections have been derived from these thick target yields and are compared with the predictions of non relativistic PWBA, BEA and CBEA theories. The rate of nuclear muon capture by the proton has been measured using a new technique based on a time projection chamber operating in ultraclean, deuterium-depleted hydrogen gas, which is key to avoiding uncertainties from muonic molecule formation. The capture rate from the hyperfine singlet ground state of the microp atom was obtained from the difference between the micro(-) disappearance rate in hydrogen and the world average for the micro(+) decay rate, yielding Lambda(S)=725.0+/-17.4 s(-1), from which the induced pseudoscalar coupling of the nucleon, g(P)(q(2)=-0.88m(2)(micro))=7.3+/-1.1, is extracted.  相似文献

Possible effects of breaking CP-symmetry are looked for in the muon capture by a linearly polarized target nucleus. With this aim the recoil polarization in the partial transitions \(0\xrightarrow{{\mu ^ - }}I,1/2\xrightarrow{{\mu ^ - }}J\) and \(1\xrightarrow{{\mu ^ - }}I\) is investigated in a nuclear model independent way. It is shown that the hyperfine structure of the muonic atom significantly influences theT-odd correlations in the recoil polarization formula, and the expectation for theT- odd signal in case of the linearly polarized target is higher by one order of magnitude. We obtain the complete set of theT-odd observables which could enter the polarization formula. As an example, within the impulse approximation for the weak interaction hamiltonian, we analyse the nonstandard, CP-breaking extension of the Fermi theory using complex Fujii-Primakoff form factorG V eiφ .  相似文献

We have reconstructed 695 three-track τ decay vertices using a high resolution drift chamber close to the interaction point. From the distribution of decay lengths we measure the lifetime to be (3.06 ±0.20±0.14)×10−13 s. Using this result we find that the ratio of charged weak coupling constant for the τ to that of the μ,G τ/G μ=0.967±0.040 consistent with the concept of lepton universality. The double crystal spectrometer GAMS4 in combination with the ILL high flux reactor has been used to determine the lifetimes of the 2620 KeV 2+2, 3074 KeV 2+3 and 3720 KeV (1, 2)+ states in 54Cr. The initial recoil energy of about 0.5 KeV imparted by the primary γ-radiation after thermal neutron capture in 53Cr produces Doppler broadened line shapes of the secondary transitions. The large 2+3→2+1 M1 strength of B(M1)=0.39(6) μ2N suggests the 2+3 state to be mixed symmetry character within the interacting boson model IBM-2.  相似文献
