The effective Lagrangian of chiral QCD2 in 1+1 dimensional curved spacetime is derived by using pathintegral approach. It is shown that vector bosons may have a mass generation and interaction of gravity with gauge field may exist.Besides, the effective Lagrangian contains a term corresponding to the analog of the gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten term in 2-dimensional flat space-time.  相似文献

The fermion number current is evaluated to leading order in the derivative expansion for chiral fermions in the background of arbitrary Higgs and chiral gauge fields. This current is given by the gauge topological current plus a total divergence term. The total divergence term is absent in Weinberg-Salam theory with one scalar Higgs doublet, even for an arbitrary mass matrix, but appears when several Higgs doublets are present.

The coupling of spin 0 and spin 1 external fields to Dirac fermions defines a theory which displays gauge chiral symmetry. Quantum-mechanically, functional integration of the fermions yields the determinant of the Dirac operator, known as the chiral determinant. Its modulus is chiral invariant but not so its phase, which carries the chiral anomaly through the Wess–Zumino–Witten term. Here we find the remarkable result that, upon removal from the chiral determinant of this known anomalous part, the remaining chiral-invariant factor is just the square root of the determinant of a local covariant operator of the Klein–Gordon type. This procedure bypasses the integrability obstruction allowing one to write down a functional that correctly reproduces both the modulus and the phase of the chiral determinant. The technique is illustrated by computing the effective action in two dimensions at leading order (LO) in the derivative expansion. The results previously obtained by indirect methods are indeed reproduced.  相似文献

Explicit exact formulas are presented, for the leading order term in a strict chiral covariant derivative expansion, for the abnormal parity component of the effective action of two- and four-dimensional Dirac fermions in the presence of scalar, pseudo-scalar, vector and axial vector background fields. The formulas hold for completely general internal symmetry groups and general configurations. In particular, the scalar and pseudo-scalar fields need not be on the chiral circle. This paper is devoted to various aspects of anomalies in even-dimensional chiral gauge theories. The difference between the covariant and consistent anomalies is carefully explained in terms of their different origins. The consistent current is defined in terms of a gauge-variant effectve action constructed from the covariant current. An alternative scheme is set up where the covariant anomaly is unaltered but the consistent anomaly vanishes because the effective actions is gauge-invariant. A discussion of theories with vector and axial currents separately gauged is included: here, apart from the covariant anomalies, two different ways of constructing gauge-variant effective actions are possible, giving rise to different structures of the consistent anomalies.  相似文献

From the effective chiral meson lagrangian derived recently from Nambu-Jona-Lasinio type of quark flavour dynamics, an extended skyrmion model is extracted. This model contains besides the usual Skyrme term further fourth-order derivative terms of the chiral field and in addition the ω meson field. It is shown that the net effect of all fourth-order derivative terms is to destabilize the soliton and to provide the desired medium-range attraction of the nucleon-nucleon interaction, which is responsible for nuclear binding but missing in the original Skyrme model. The soliton is stabilized by the coupling to the ω meson which produces a short-range repulsion. The corresponding equation of state of skyrmion matter is constructed and found to be in qualitative agreement with the equation of state of nuclear matter obtained from effective density-dependent forces.  相似文献

It is shown that both abelian and non abelian chiral gauge theories in two dimensions can be made gauge invariant at the quantum level by adding a scalar field. In the bosonized form of the theory, the scalar field appears in a gauged Wess-Zumino action. The current algebra of the extended abelian theory is shown to be free of anomalous terms.  相似文献

The effective chiral action is evaluated within a novel improved heat-kernel expansion, which includes gradients of the chiral field in a non-perturbative way. This expansion is valid for both small and large momenta. The exact scaling behaviour of the effective action of a localized chiral field with respect to changing its spatial size is found. From this it is proved that the radiatively induced derivative terms cannot absolutely stabilize the chiral soliton against collapsing. The collapsing of the soliton is, however, accompanied by a vanishing of the baryon charge. It is argued that the effective chiral action constrained to a fixed baryon number may still admit stable soliton configurations.  相似文献

By bosonization of an extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio type of quark model with explicit breaking of chiral U(n) × U(n) symmetry we derive a effective low-energy lagrangian of composite scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial-vector mesons. This lagrangian contains the gauged Wess-Zumino term as well as higher order derivative terms of the Skyrme type, the coefficients of which agree with recent phenomenological estimates. In particular, the value predicted for the strength of the standard fourth-order Skyrme term is in satisfactory agreement with the results obtained by fitting the nucleon and delta masses. Our effective chiral lagrangian reproduces the wealth of the results of successful phenomenological lagrangians as, e.g. soft-pion theorems, Goldberger-Treiman relations, PCAC, the KSFR relation, the (approximate) Weinberg relation, etc. Moreover, the predicted mass spectra and decay constants of composite mesons are in qualitative agreement with the experimental findings. Furthermore, when electroweak interactions are included the lagrangian contains vector (axial-vector) dominance based on field-current identities.  相似文献

We present a formalism to determine the imaginary part of a general chiral model in the derivative expansion. Our formalism is based on the worldline path integral for the covariant current that can be given in an explicit chiral and gauge covariant form. The effective action is then obtained by integrating the covariant current, taking account of the anomaly.  相似文献

An effective chiral meson lagrangian is derived from a microscopic quark lagrangian. It contains a partial Higgs mechanism for ϱ-A1 mass splitting reproducing Weinberg and KSFR relations, and includes quartic derivative “Skyrme” terms and the gauges Wess-Zumino term. The connection to previous approaches deriving the effective lagrangian exclusively from the chiral anomaly including “normal-parity” terms is established.  相似文献

The relations between the chiral boundary condition, the chiral jacobian and the Wess-Zumino-Witten term are clarified in the context of the hybrid chiral bag model. It is shown that the local chiral boundary conditions lead naturally to a Wess-Zumino-Witten term in the fermion-induced action and thus render consistent an otherwise anomalous model.  相似文献

The chiral property of the Wilson lattice fermion is investigated. A chiral-invariant four-Fermi model, in which chiral symmetry is dynamically broken, is considered in 2 and 4 dimensions. The Wess-Zumino term is calculated in the 1/Nc expansion. In 2 dimensions, the Wess-Zumino term appears from the Wilson term in the desired form. However, in 4 dimensions the mass-independent one does not appear. The physical reason for this result is discussed.  相似文献

We study general perturbations of two-dimensional conformal field theories by holomorphic fields. It is shown that the genus one partition function is controlled by a contact term (pre-Lie) algebra given in terms of the operator product expansion. These models have applications to vertex operator algebras, two-dimensional QCD, topological strings, holomorphic anomaly equations and modular properties of generalized characters of chiral algebras such as the W1+∞ algebra, that is treated in detail.  相似文献

We show that while the zero temperature induced fermion number in a chiral sigma model background depends only on the asymptotic values of the chiral field, at finite temperature the induced fermion number depends also on the detailed shape of the chiral background. We resum the leading low temperature terms to all orders in the derivative expansion, producing a simple result that can be interpreted physically as the different effect of the chiral background on virtual pairs of the Dirac sea and on the real particles of the thermal plasma. By contrast, for a kink background, not of sigma model form, the finite T induced fermion number is temperature dependent but topological.  相似文献

We have conducted a search for globally supersymmetric preon models with gauged colour-flavour symmetries. Theories with both two- and three-preon composites, and colour-flavour groups from E6 down to the standard model, are examined under the following conditions: asymptotically-free metacolour, anomaly-free gauged symmetries, and Pauli principle obeyed. It is found that there are no models with three or more supersymmetric families. If supersymmetry is broken, one model with four families emerges. The purely fermionic preon theories can also be considered as the light sector of a chiral supersymmetric theory, with supersymmetry breaking at the preon level.  相似文献

The anomaly implies an obstruction to a fully chiral covariant calculation of the effective action in the abnormal-parity sector of chiral theories. The standard approach then is to reconstruct the anomalous effective action from its covariant current. In this work, we use a recently introduced formulation which allows one to directly construct the non-trivial chiral invariant part of the effective action within a fully covariant formalism. To this end we develop an appropriate version of Chan’s approach to carry out the calculation within the derivative expansion. The result to four derivatives, i.e., to leading order in two and four dimensions and next-to-leading order in two dimensions, is explicitly worked out. Fairly compact expressions are found for these terms.  相似文献

This is a second study of chiral anomaly-induced transport within a holographic model consisting of anomalous \(U(1)_V\times U(1)_A\) Maxwell theory in Schwarzschild–AdS\(_5\) spacetime. In the first part, chiral magnetic/separation effects (CME/CSE) are considered in the presence of a static spatially inhomogeneous external magnetic field. Gradient corrections to CME/CSE are analytically evaluated up to third order in the derivative expansion. Some of the third order gradient corrections lead to an anomaly-induced negative \(B^2\)-correction to the diffusion constant. We also find modifications to the chiral magnetic wave nonlinear in B. In the second part, we focus on the experimentally interesting case of the axial chemical potential being induced dynamically by a constant magnetic and time-dependent electric fields. Constitutive relations for the vector/axial currents are computed employing two different approximations: (a) derivative expansion (up to third order) but fully nonlinear in the external fields, and (b) weak electric field limit but resuming all orders in the derivative expansion. A non-vanishing nonlinear axial current (CSE) is found in the first case. The dependence on magnetic field and frequency of linear transport coefficient functions is explored in the second.  相似文献

Multiferroic behavior in an isotropic Heisenberg spin glass with Gaussian random fields, incorporated by magneto-electric coupling derived from the Landau symmetry argument, are investigated. Electric dipole glass transitions at finite temperature, due to coupling, are demonstrated by Monte Carlo simulation. This electric dipole glass state is solely ascribed to the coupling term with chiral symmetry of the magnetization, while the term associated with the spatial derivative of the squared magnetization has no contribution.  相似文献
