We have characterized the wavelength dispersion of the high- and low-frequency values of the linear electro-optic coefficient r c = r 33–(n o/n e)3 r 13 of poled 0.88 Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.12 PbTiO3 single crystal. The measurements have been investigated as a function of the laser wavelength from 0.465 to 1.32 m. Clamped r S and unclamped r T values of the electro-optic coefficient as well as the acoustic contribution r a have been established. We obtained a ratio of r S/r T = 30%, which is independent of the wavelength of the light beam. The value of r S c at the wavelength of 633 nm was found to be equal to 50±5 pm/V, which is a rather high value.This revised version was published online in March 2005. We have optically characterized the newly-developed photorefractive crystal KNSBN: Cu by two-wave coupling at visible and near-infrared wavelengths. The effective electrooptic coefficients(k g)r 13 and(k g)r 33, the effective charge carrier densityN eff, the dark conductivity d, the product of mobility and electron-trap recombination time R, the formation and decay rate of index grating and the absorption coefficient of the crystal were determined from visible to near-infrared wavelengths. Their wavelength dependences were also studied. It is interesting to notice that the KNSBN: Cu crystal has a very largeN eff and large gain coefficient for ordinary ray (o-ray) in the visible region, and the photorefractive properties of the crystal are very different in the visible and near-infrared spectral regions.  相似文献

Single crystal of potassium dichromate (KDC) has been grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique. The lattice parameters of the grown crystal were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The optical absorption studies reveal that the crystal has UV cut-off wavelength around 240 nm. Thermo gravimetric and differential thermal (TGA/DTA) studies revealed that the crystal thermally stable up to 397.1 °C. The mechanical strength of the grown crystal was carried out by Vickers micro hardness test. The crystal perfection was confirmed by etching studies. Third order nonlinear optical studies was performed using by single beam Z-scan technique using continuous Nd:YAG laser. Closed aperture Z-scan studies reveal the negative nonlinearity in the crystals and open aperture Z-scan reveals the saturation absorption. Also various parameters such as nonlinear refractive index n2, absorption co-efficient β and nonlinear optical susceptibility χ(3) were calculated for the grown crystal.  相似文献

We report the results of the first measurements of the non-linear Kerr refractive index, n2, for LiBaF3 and LiLuF4 crystal hosts, known as prospective UV-emitting tunable laser media when doped with Ce3+ ions. These n2 values (2.7×10-16 and 1.5×10-16 cm2/W at 532 nm, respectively), obtained using the well-established Z-scan technique, are important for the characterization of new optical materials particularly in relation to their potential ultrafast applications. We report the dependence of the high and low-frequency values of the linear electro-optic (EO) coefficient rc=r33-(no/ne)3r13 of Sr0.6Ba0.4Nb2O6 (SBN:60) single crystal on the laser wavelength. The EO response has been carried out from dc to 150 MHz for four wavelengths ranging from 465 to 1321 nm. The clamped rS and unclamped rT coefficients have been determined and their dispersions as a function of wavelength have been established and discussed.  相似文献

Accurate measurements of the composite electrooptic (EO) coefficients rc consisting of the EO coefficients r13, r33, and the piezoelectric constant d31 in undoped and MgO-doped LiNbO3 (LN) were made by extracting the fundamental and third harmonic components from photo-detection signals of the parallel Nicol optics including the LN crystal driven by minimal sinusoidal voltage. The analysis of relationship between multiple-reflection rays in the EO crystal and the accuracy of measurement indicates that anti-reflection films must be coated on the end faces of the crystal for highly accurate measurements. Measured values of rc of undoped and MgO-doped LN crystals at a wavelength of 632.8 nm were 19.8 ± 0.1 pm/V and 19.2 ± 0.1 pm/V, respectively.  相似文献

Using c- and a-cut plates of strontium-barium-niobate doped with 0.66 mol.% cerium all nonzero components of the linear electrooptic tensor r13, r42, r33 including the sign are determined from angular dependence of the two-beam coupling coefficient Γ using transmission and reflection geometry of holographic recording. We found: r13=56 pm/V, r42=38 pm/V, and r33=333 pm/V. In addition we calculated the effective trap density Neff to be 2.2×1017 cm-3. The complete set of self-consistent parameters of nominally undoped LiNbO3 crystals of congruent composition that describe the electro-optic, piezoelectric, elasto-optic, elastic, and dielectric response has been determined by numerically evaluating available measurements. The parameters were determined at room temperature and consist of the low-frequency clamped dielectric constants εS ij, elastic stiffness constants at constant electric field CE ijkl, piezoelectric stress coefficients eijk, elasto-optic constants at constant electric field pE ijkl, and clamped electro-optic coefficients rS ijk. It is shown that the complete set is required for calculating the effective electro-optic coefficients and dielectric constants in photorefractive applications of LiNbO3. The near-stoichiometric LiNbO3 crystal co-doped with In2O3, Fe2O3, and CuO has been grown from a Li-rich melt (Li/Nb = 1.38, atomic ratio) by the Czochralski method in air atmosphere for the first time. The OH absorption spectra were characterized to investigate the structure defects of the crystals. The appearance of the 3506 cm−1 absorption peak manifests that the composition of the grown crystal is close to the stoichiometric ratio. The photorefractive properties were also measured by the two-wave coupling experiments. The results show that the near-stoichiometric In:Fe:Cu:LiNbO3 crystal has a larger refractive index change, higher recording sensitivity and larger two-wave coupling gain coefficient than those obtained in the congruent In:Fe:Cu:LiNbO3 crystal under the same experimental conditions. The material of near-stoichiometric In:Fe:Cu:LiNbO3 crystal is a promising candidate for blue photorefractive holographic recording.  相似文献

3 crystal have been measured using Z-scan technique with picosecond pulses at 532 nm. The nonlinear absorption coefficient and nonlinear refractive index are determined to be 2.5×10-10 cm/W and 5.3×10-15 cm2/W, respectively. Both sign and magnitude of the measured refractive nonlinearity are considerably different from the reported Z-scan results in LiNbO3 obtained with cw laser beam at 514 nm. The nonlinearities in LiNbO3 induced by 532 nm picosecond pulses are believed to be mainly due to two-photon absorption and bound electronic Kerr effect associated with the two-photon absorption. The first two can be measured by simple and classical methods, but the coexistence of optical activity, electrogyration, field-induced linear birefringence, and piezoelectric and photoelastic effects in photorefractive materials such as Bi12TiO20 complicate the measurement of the electro-optic coefficient. For normal incidence of linearly polarized light we derive analytic expressions for the polarization of light that has passed through the crystal. The ellipticity of the polarization is a function of the electric-field-induced linear birefringence and hence of the electro-optic coefficient of the crystal. Therefore measurement of the ellipticity as a function of an electric field externally applied to the crystal leads to an electro-optic coefficient r41 of 5.3±0.1 pm/V. The formation and decay kinetics of chain linked triplet radical pairs derived from photo-induced electron transfer reactions in a series of 21 zinc porphyrin-flexible spacer-viologen (ZnP-Sp n -Vi2+) dyads containing 2–138 atoms (n) in the spacer, have been examined by nanosecond laser flash photolysis techniques in an external magnetic field. In non-viscous polar solvents (acetone and CHCl3 plus CH3OH = 1:1 v/v), the effect of the spacer length on the rate constant of forward electron transfer can be described by the equation: k et = k 0 et(n + 6)?1.5, with k 0 et = 3 × 1010 s?1 and 1.2 × 1010 s?1 for electron transfer from the singlet and triplet states of ZnP, respectively. In zero magnetic field, the value of the triplet radical pair recombination rate constant, k r(0) = 0.7 × 106-8 × 106 s?1, is significantly smaller than k et. The dependence of k r(0) on n has an extremum with the maximum near n = 20. In a strong magnetic field (B = 0.21 T), significant retardation of triplet radical pair recombination is observed. In strong magnetic fields the effect of the chain length on triplet radical pair recombination rates is rather small and k r(B) may vary in the range 0.3 × 106-1 × 107 s?1. The phenomena observed are discussed in terms of the interplay of molecular and spin dynamics in the limits of slow and fast encounters, taking into account the exchange-interaction.  相似文献

We report a generalization of our earlier formalism [Pramana, 54, 663 (1998)] to obtain exact solutions of Einstein-Maxwell’s equations for static spheres filled with a charged fluid having anisotropic pressure and of null conductivity. Defining new variables: w=(4π/3)(ρ+ε)r 2, u=4πξr 2, v r=4πp r r 2, v =4πp r 2[ρ, ξ(=−(1/2)F 14 F 14), p r, p being respectively the energy densities of matter and electrostatic fields, radial and transverse fluid pressures whereas ε denotes the eigenvalue of the conformal Weyl tensor and interpreted as the energy density of the free gravitational field], we have recast Einstein’s field equations into a form easy to integrate. Since the system is underdetermined we make the following assumptions to solve the field equations (i) u=v r=(a 2/2κ)r n+2, v =k 1 v r, w=k 2 v r; a 2, n(>0), k 1, k 2 being constants with κ=((k 1+2)/3+k 2) and (ii) w+u=(b 2/2)r n+2, u=v r, v v r=k, with b and k as constants. In both cases the field equations are integrated completely. The first solution is regular in the metric as well as physical variables for all values of n>0. Even though the second solution contains terms like k/r 2 since Q(0)=0 it is argued that the pressure anisotropy, caused by the electric flux near the centre, can be made to vanish reducing it to the generalized Cooperstock-de la Cruz solution given in [14]. The photorefractive behaviour of a novel type of optical waveguides fabricated in LiNbO3 by swift heavy ion irradiation is investigated. First, the electro-optic coefficient r 33 of these guides that is crucial in the photorefractive effect is measured. Second, two complementary aspects of the photorefractive response are studied: (i) recording and light-induced and dark erasure of holographic gratings; (ii) optical beam degradation in single-beam configuration. The main photorefractive parameters, recording and erasing time constants, maximum refractive-index change and optical damage thresholds are determined.  相似文献

We have investigated the photorefractive (photoinduced) light scattering in lithium niobate single crystals: LiNbO3, LiNbO3:B, LiNbO3:Y(0.46 mas %), LiNbO3:Y(0.24):Mg(0.63 mas %), and LiNbO3:Ta(1.13):Mg(0.0109 mas %) that were grown from congruent melts. We have found that the shape of the speckle structure of this scattering and the kinetics of the development of its indicatrix depend substantially on the type of the impurity dopant in the lithium niobate crystal. We have observed that, upon laser irradiation of crystals doped with Y3+, Ta5+:Mg2+, and Y3+:Mg2+, the shape of their scattering indicatrix changes with time. At the same time, the LiNbO3:B crystal is characterized by a complete absence of time changes in its speckle structure, which indicates that the photorefractive effect in this crystal is substantially lowered.  相似文献

The nonlinear refractive index n2 of Yb3+:KY(WO4)2 crystal has been measured using picosecond Z-scan technique. The magnitude of n2 was found to be 8.7 × 10–16 cm2/W at wavelength of 1.08 m. The numerical modeling based on fluctuation model showed a great potential of this crystal as active medium for Kerr-lens mode-locking.  相似文献

The variational procedure to construct compact and accurate wave functions for three-electron atoms and ions is developed. The procedure is based on the use of six-dimensional Gaussoids written in the relative four-body coordinates r 12, r 13, r 23, r 14, r 24, and r 34. The nonlinear parameters in each basis function have been carefully optimized. Using these variational wave functions, we have determined the energies and other bound state properties for the ground 12 S-states in a number of three-electron atoms and ions. The three-electron atomic systems considered in this work include the neutral Li atom and nine positively charged lithiumlike ions: Be+, B2+, C3+, ..., Na8+, and Mg9+. Our variational wave functions are used to determine the hyperfine structure splitting and field shifts for some lithium-like ions. The explicit formulas of the Q −1 expansion are derived for the total energies of these three-electron systems. The article is published in the original.  相似文献

A pulsed fast Fourier transform N.M.R. spectrometer is used to investigate the temperature dependence of the 13C chemical shifts in the nematic liquid crystal solutions of the following halides: 13CH3I, 13CH3Br, 13CH3Cl. The H-C-H bond angles are accurately measured in this investigation from proton magnetic resonance studies. The signs of the coupling constants D 13CH , D HH, J 13CH and the ordering parameter have been assigned to be all positive. The 13C magnetic shielding anisotropy is found to become more positive with the increasing electronegativity of the halogen substituents. The values of the anisotropies are: Δσ = σ - σ = - 101 ± 15 p.p.m. (13CH3I), - 10 ± 5 p.p.m. (13CH3Br), 22 ± 5 p.p.m. (13CH3Cl). Results for Δσ obtained from the slope of σn versus S 33 agree with those obtained from the nematic-isotropic phase subtraction method.  相似文献
