Quasiclassical asymptotic behavior of the scattering cross section for asymptotically homogeneous potentials

One considers the total scattering cross section on the potential gV(x), x^m, m3, for large values of the coupling constant g and of the wave number k. One assumes that V(x)(x/|1x|)|x|^–, 2>m+1, as ¦x¦. It is shown that for gk^–1 , g^3–ak^2(a–2) the scattering cross section is equal asymptotically to _a(gk^–1), x=(m–1)(–1)^–1. Here the coefficient _a is determined only by the function and the number . Polynomially convex orbits of compact lie groups

LetV be a finite dimensional complex linear space and letG be a compact subgroup of GL(V). We prove that an orbitG, V, is polynomially convex if and only ifG is closed andG is the real form ofG . For every orbitG which is not polynomially convex we construct an analytic annulus or strip inG with the boundary inG. It is also proved that the group of holomorphic automorphisms ofG which commute withG acts transitively on the set of polynomially convexG-orbits. Further, an analog of the Kempf-Ness criterion is obtained and homogeneous spaces of compact Lie groups which admit only polynomially convex equivariant embeddings are characterized.Supported by Federal program Integratsiya, no. 586.Supported by INTAS grant 97/10170.     

Concretely Locally Presentable and Locally Generated Categories

We give concrete versions of the characterizations of locally -presentable (resp. -generated) categories as categories of models of (resp. weakly) -ary limit-theories and of (resp. weakly) -ary essentially algebraic theories. By concrete we mean that starting with a category of -structures, the theories obtained are extensions of the original ones, and the equivalences of categories are concrete isomorphisms. -presentable and -generated objects are also investigated from this viewpoint.     

Minimax detection of a signal in ℓp metrics

The problem of the minimax detection of a signal is considered in a Gaussian white noise of intensity 0. The set of the signals represents an ellipsoid in the _p-metric with lengths of semiaxes a_k ^–1 0 as k , from which a ball of radius 0 as 0 in the _p-metric has been removed. Let k be a commutative ring, GG finite affine algebraic k-groups, and HH the dual Hopfalgebras of the affine algebras of G resp. G. The main results of this paper are: (I) If k is semilocal (e.g. k a field) there is an H-linear, HH-colinear, unitary, augmented isomorphism HHH H, where HH is the coalgebra belonging to G/G. (II) If the k-submodule of the fixelements of (HH)^* is isomorphic to k (e.g. k principal or semilocal), then HH is a Frobeniusextension of the second kind.

Noetherian Equations for Matrices

Let L|K be a finite Galois extension. Using central simple algebras we deal with the crossed representations of G = Gal(L|K) over L which are defined as mappings X of G into GL_n(L) satisfying X = X X. The last equation is the Noetherian equation in case n=1. Furtheron, more general crossed projective representations are considered which obey an equation X X = Xf_, where f_, L.

The Trace Conjecture – A Counterexample

In the paper Geometric K-Theory for Lie Groups and Foliations, Baum and Connes conjecture in a remark following Corollary 2 of their famous Isomorphism conjecture that for a finitely generated group with torsion, the trace map tr: K₀(C^*)R maps K₀(C^*) onto the additive subgroup of Q generated by all rational numbers of the form 1/n where n is the order of a finite subgroup of . We construct a counterexample to this conjecture.
