Canonical mappings for polynomials and holomorphic functions on Banach spaces

We obtain functional representations for the canonical mapping into the bidual for spaces of holomorphic functions on certain Banach spaces.

     

Strongly typical representations of the basic classical Lie superalgebras

We describe the category of representations with a strongly typical central character of a basic classical Lie superalgebra in terms of representations of its even part.

     

Construction of tame supercuspidal representations

We give a quite general construction of irreducible supercuspidal representations and supercuspidal types (in the sense of Bushnell and Kutzko) of -adic groups. In the tame case, the construction should include all known constructions, and it is expected that this gives all supercuspidal representations. We also give a conjectural Hecke algebra isomorphism, which can be used to analyze arbitrary irreducible admissible representations, following the ideas of Howe and Moy.

     

Transformation of hypersingular integrals and black-box cubature

In this paper, we will consider hypersingular integrals as they arise by transforming elliptic boundary value problems into boundary integral equations. First, local representations of these integrals will be derived. These representations contain so-called finite-part integrals. In the second step, these integrals are reformulated as improper integrals. We will show that these integrals can be treated by cubature methods for weakly singular integrals as they exist in the literature.

     

Low-pass filters and representations of the Baumslag Solitar group

We analyze representations of the Baumslag Solitar group

that admit wavelets and show how such representations can be constructed from a given low-pass filter. We describe the direct integral decomposition for some examples and derive from it a general criterion for the existence of solutions for scaling equations. As another application, we construct a Fourier transform for some Hausdorff measures.

     

Computing in groups of Lie type

We describe two methods for computing with the elements of untwisted groups of Lie type: using the Steinberg presentation and using highest weight representations. We give algorithms for element arithmetic within the Steinberg presentation. Conversion between this presentation and linear representations is achieved using a new generalisation of row and column reduction.

     

On the crossing number of positive knots and braids and braid index criteria of Jones and Morton-Williams-Franks

We give examples of knots with some unusual properties of the crossing number of positive diagrams or strand number of positive braid representations. In particular, we show that positive braid knots may not have positive minimal (strand number) braid representations, giving a counterpart to results of Franks-Williams and Murasugi. Other examples answer questions of Cromwell on homogeneous and (partially) of Adams on almost alternating knots.

We give a counterexample to, and a corrected version of, a theorem of Jones on the Alexander polynomial of 4-braid knots. We also give an example of a knot on which all previously applied braid index criteria fail to estimate sharply (from below) the braid index. A relation between (generalizations of) such examples and a conjecture of Jones that a minimal braid representation has unique writhe is discussed.

Finally, we give a counterexample to Morton's conjecture relating the genus and degree of the skein polynomial.

     

Triangulated categories of Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularities

We prove there is an equivalence of derived categories between Orlov's triangulated category of singularities for a Gorenstein cyclic quotient singularity and the derived category of representations of a quiver with relations, which is obtained from a McKay quiver by removing one vertex and half of the arrows. This result produces examples of distinct quivers with relations which have equivalent derived categories of representations.

     

Second order conformal covariants

We complete the classification of second order, bundle valued differential operator invariants of Riemannian and pseudo-Riemannian conformal structure, by classifying such operators which pass between bundles associated to different representations of the rotation or spin group.

     

Compact perturbations of isometries

We give some characterizations of isometries (contractions) which are perturbations with compact operators of a given arbitrary isometry, in terms of certain natural factorizations. As a consequence we obtain general parametric representations of these perturbations.

     

On the convergence of maximal monotone operators

We study the convergence of maximal monotone operators with the help of representations by convex functions. In particular, we prove the convergence of a sequence of sums of maximal monotone operators under a general qualification condition of the Attouch-Brezis type.

     

On the finite dimensional unitary representations of Kazhdan groups

We use A. Weil's criterion to prove that all finite dimensional unitary representations of a discrete Kazhdan group are locally rigid. It follows that any such representation is unitarily equivalent to a unitary representation over some algebraic number field.

     

Geometry of the Moment Map for Representations of Quivers

We study the moment map associated to the cotangent bundle of the space of representations of a quiver, determining when it is flat, and giving a stratification of its Marsden–Weinstein reductions. In order to do this we determine the possible dimension vectors of simple representations of deformed preprojective algebras. In an appendix we use deformed preprojective algebras to give a simple proof of much of Kac's Theorem on representations of quivers in characteristic zero.     

Unitary Shimura correspondences for split real groups

We find a relationship between certain complementary series representations for nonlinear coverings of split simple groups, and spherical complementary series for (different) linear groups. The main technique is Barbasch's method of calculating some intertwining operators purely in terms of the Weyl group.

     

On local representations of von Neumann algebras

We prove that every bounded, linear, 2-local Hilbert space representation of a von Neumann algebra is a representation. In contrast, 1-local representations may fail to be multiplicative, even at the 2 by 2 matrix algebra level.

     

Homogeneous spaces with invariant projectively flat affine connections

We characterize invariant projectively flat affine connections in terms of affine representations of Lie algebras, and show that a homogeneous space admits an invariant projectively flat affine connection if and only if it has an equivariant centro-affine immersion. We give a correspondence between semi-simple symmetric spaces with invariant projectively flat affine connections and central-simple Jordan algebras.

     

An obstruction to quantizing compact symplectic manifolds

We prove that there are no nontrivial finite-dimensional Lie representations of certain Poisson algebras of polynomials on a compact symplectic manifold. This result is used to establish the existence of a universal obstruction to quantizing a compact symplectic manifold, regardless of the dimensionality of the representation.

     

On sampling theory associated with the resolvents of singular Sturm-Liouville problems

This paper is concerned with the sampling theory associated with resolvents of eigenvalue problems. We introduce sampling representations for integral transforms whose kernels are Green's functions of singular Sturm-Liouville problems provided that the singular points are in the limit-circle situation, extending the results obtained in the regular problems.

     

The stringy E-function of the moduli space of rank 2 bundles over a Riemann surface of genus 3

We compute the stringy E-function (or the motivic integral) of the moduli space of rank 2 bundles over a Riemann surface of genus 3. In doing so, we answer a question of Batyrev about the stringy E-functions of the GIT quotients of linear representations.
