Extremal probabilities for Gaussian quadratic forms   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
 Denote by Q an arbitrary positive semidefinite quadratic form in centered Gaussian random variables such that E(Q)=1. We prove that for an arbitrary x>0, inf Q P(Qx)=P2 n /nx), where χ n 2 is a chi-square distributed rv with n=n(x) degrees of freedom, n(x) is a non-increasing function of x, n=1 iff x>x(1)=1.5364…, n=2 iff x[x(2),x(1)], where x(2)=1.2989…, etc., n(x)≤rank(Q). A similar statement is not true for the supremum: if 1<x<2 and Z 1 ,Z 2 are independent standard Gaussian rv's, then sup0≤λ≤1/2 PZ 1 2 +(1−λ)Z 2 2 x} is taken not at λ=0 or at λ=1/2 but at 0<λ=λ(x)<1/2, where λ(x) is a continuous, increasing function from λ(1)=0 to λ(2)=1/2, e.g. λ(1.5)=.15…. Applications of our theorems include asymptotic quantiles of U and V-statistics, signal detection, and stochastic orderings of integrals of squared Gaussian processes.  Let G be a graph with n vertices, and denote as γ(G) (as θ(G)) the cardinality of a minimum edge cover (of a minimum clique cover) of G. Let E (let C) be the edge-vertex (the clique-vertex) incidence matrix of G; write then P(E)={x∈ℜ n :Ex1,x0}, P(C)={x∈ℜ n :Cx1,x0}, α E (G)=max{1 T x subject to xP(E)}, and α C (G)= max{1 T x subject to xP(C)}. In this paper we prove that if α E (G)=α C (G), then γ(G)=θ(G). Received: May 20, 1998?Final version received: April 12, 1999  相似文献

Let X(t) be an N parameter generalized Lévy sheet taking values in ℝd with a lower index α, ℜ = {(s, t] = ∏ i=1 N (s i, t i], s i < t i}, E(x, Q) = {tQ: X(t) = x}, Q ∈ ℜ be the level set of X at x and X(Q) = {x: ∃tQ such that X(t) = x} be the image of X on Q. In this paper, the problems of the existence and increment size of the local times for X(t) are studied. In addition, the Hausdorff dimension of E(x, Q) and the upper bound of a uniform dimension for X(Q) are also established.  相似文献

Let E be an elliptic curve over Q and p a prime number. Denote by Qp,∞ the Zp-extension of Q. In this paper, we show that if p≠3, then where E(Qp,∞)(2) is the 2-primary part of the group E(Qp,∞) of Qp,∞-rational points on E. More precisely, in case p=2, we completely classify E(Q2,∞)(2) in terms of E(Q)(2); in case p≥5 (or in case p=3 and E(Q)(2)≠{O}), we show that E(Qp,∞)(2)=E(Q)(2).  相似文献

This paper deals with syzygies of the ideals of the Veronese embeddings. By Green’s Theorem we know thatO P n (d) satisfies Green-Lazarsfeld’s PropertyN pd≥p, ∀n. By Ottaviani-Paoletti’s theorem ifn≥2, d≥3 and 3d−2≤p thenO P n (d) does not satisfy PropertyN p. The casesn≥3, d≥3, d<p<3d−2 are still open (exceptn=d=3). Here we deal with one of these cases, namely we prove thatO P n (3) satisfies PropertyN 4n. Besides we prove thatO P n (d) satisfiesN pn≥p iffO P n (d) satisfiesN p.

Let Γ=(X,E) denote a bipartite distance-regular graph with diameter D≥4, and fix a vertex x of Γ. The Terwilliger algebra T=T(x) is the subalgebra of Mat X(C) generated by A, E * 0, E * 1,…,E * D, where A denotes the adjacency matrix for Γ and E * i denotes the projection onto the i TH subconstituent of Γ with respect to x. An irreducible T-module W is said to be thin whenever dimE * i W≤1 for 0≤iDi. The endpoint of W is min{i|E * i W≠0}. We determine the structure of the (unique) irreducible T-module of endpoint 0 in terms of the intersection numbers of Γ. We show that up to isomorphism there is a unique irreducible T-module of endpoint 1 and it is thin. We determine its structure in terms of the intersection numbers of Γ. We determine the structure of each thin irreducible T-module W of endpoint 2 in terms of the intersection numbers of Γ and an additional real parameter ψ=ψ(W), which we refer to as the type of W. We now assume each irreducible T-module of endpoint 2 is thin and obtain the following two-fold result. First, we show that the intersection numbers of Γ are determined by the diameter D of Γ and the set of ordered pairs
where Φ2 denotes the set of distinct types of irreducible T-modules with endpoint 2, and where mult(ψ) denotes the multiplicity with which the module of type ψ appears in the standard module. Secondly, we show that the set of ordered pairs {(ψ,mult(ψ)) |ψ∈Φ2} is determined by the intersection numbers k, b 2, b 3 of Γ and the spectrum of the graph , where
and where ∂ denotes the distance function in Γ. Combining the above two results, we conclude that if every irreducible T-module of endpoint 2 is thin, then the intersection numbers of Γ are determined by the diameter D of Γ, the intersection numbers k, b 2, b 3 of Γ, and the spectrum of Γ2 2. Denote by 0 = λ 0 < λ 1 ≤ λ 2 ≤ . . . the infinite sequence given by the values of a positive definite irrational quadratic form in k variables at integer points. For l ≥ 2 and an (l −1)-dimensional interval I = I 2×. . .×I l we consider the l-level correlation function K(l)I(R){K^{(l)}_I(R)} which counts the number of tuples (i 1, . . . , i l ) such that li1,?,lilR2{\lambda_{i_1},\ldots,\lambda_{i_l}\leq R^2} and lij-li1 ? Ij{\lambda_{i_{j}}-\lambda_{i_{1}}\in I_j} for 2 ≤ j ≤ l. We study the asymptotic behavior of K(l)I(R){K^{(l)}_I(R)} as R tends to infinity. If k ≥ 4 we prove K(l)I(R) ~ cl(Q) vol(I)Rlk-2(l-1){K^{(l)}_I(R)\sim c_l(Q)\,{\rm vol}(I)R^{lk-2(l-1)}} for arbitrary l, where c l (Q) is an explicitly determined constant. This remains true for k = 3 under the restriction l ≤ 3.  相似文献

Let φ be a power series with positive Taylor coefficients {a k } k=0 and non-zero radius of convergence r ≤ ∞. Let ξ x , 0 ≤ x < r be a random variable whose values α k , k = 0, 1, …, are independent of x and taken with probabilities a k x k /φ(x), k = 0, 1, …. The positive linear operator (A φ f)(x):= E[f(ξ x )] is studied. It is proved that if E(ξ x ) = x, E(ξ x 2) = qx 2 + bx + c, q, b, cR, q > 0, then A φ reduces to the Szász-Mirakyan operator in the case q = 1, to the limit q-Bernstein operator in the case 0 < q < 1, and to a modification of the Lupaş operator in the case q > 1.  相似文献

Given 1≦p<∞ and a real Banach spaceX, we define thep-absolutely summing constantμ p(X) as inf{Σ i =1/m |x*(x i)|p p Σ i =1/mx ip p]1 p}, where the supremum ranges over {x*∈X*; ‖x*‖≤1} and the infimum is taken over all sets {x 1,x 2, …,x m} ⊂X such that Σ i =1/mx i‖>0. It follows immediately from [2] thatμ p(X)>0 if and only ifX is finite dimensional. In this paper we find the exact values ofμ p(X) for various spaces, and obtain some asymptotic estimates ofμ p(X) for general finite dimensional Banach spaces. This is a part of the author’s Ph.D. Thesis prepared at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, under the supervision of Prof. A. Dvoretzky and Prof. J. Lindenstrauss.  相似文献

 Let D be a semicomplete multipartite digraph, with partite sets V 1, V 2,…, V c, such that |V 1|≤|V 2|≤…≤|V c|. Define f(D)=|V(D)|−3|V c|+1 and . We define the irregularity i(D) of D to be max|d +(x)−d (y)| over all vertices x and y of D (possibly x=y). We define the local irregularity i l(D) of D to be max|d +(x)−d (x)| over all vertices x of D and we define the global irregularity of D to be i g(D)=max{d +(x),d (x) : xV(D)}−min{d +(y),d (y) : yV(D)}. In this paper we show that if i g(D)≤g(D) or if i l(D)≤min{f(D), g(D)} then D is Hamiltonian. We furthermore show how this implies a theorem which generalizes two results by Volkmann and solves a stated problem and a conjecture from [6]. Our result also gives support to the conjecture from [6] that all diregular c-partite tournaments (c≥4) are pancyclic, and it is used in [9], which proves this conjecture for all c≥5. Finally we show that our result in some sense is best possible, by giving an infinite class of non-Hamiltonian semicomplete multipartite digraphs, D, with i g(D)=i(D)=i l(D)=g(D)+?≤f(D)+1. Let X be a normed space that satisfies the Johnson–Lindenstrauss lemma (J–L lemma, in short) in the sense that for any integer n and any x 1,…,x n X, there exists a linear mapping L:XF, where FX is a linear subspace of dimension O(log n), such that ‖x i x j ‖≤‖L(x i )−L(x j )‖≤O(1)⋅‖x i x j ‖ for all i,j∈{1,…,n}. We show that this implies that X is almost Euclidean in the following sense: Every n-dimensional subspace of X embeds into Hilbert space with distortion 22O(log*n)2^{2^{O(\log^{*}n)}} . On the other hand, we show that there exists a normed space Y which satisfies the J–L lemma, but for every n, there exists an n-dimensional subspace E n Y whose Euclidean distortion is at least 2Ω(α(n)), where α is the inverse Ackermann function.  相似文献

LetX be a closed subset of a topological spaceF; leta(·) be a continuous map fromX intoX; let {x i} be a sequence generated iteratively bya(·) fromx 0 inX, i.e.,x i+1 =a(x i),i=0, 1, 2, ...; and letQ(x 0) be the cluster point set of {x i}. In this paper, we prove that, if there exists a pointz inQ(x 0) such that (i)z is isolated with respect toQ(x 0), (ii)z is a periodic point ofa(·) of periodp, and (iii)z possesses a sequentially compact neighborhood, then (iv)Q(x 0) containsp points, (v) the sequence {x i} is contained in a sequentially compact set, and (vi) every point inQ(x 0) possesses properties (i) and (ii). The application of the preceding results to the caseF=E n leads to the following: (vii) ifQ(x 0) contains one and only one point, then {x i} converges; (viii) ifQ(x 0) contains a finite number of points, then {x i} is bounded; and (ix) ifQ(x 0) containsp points, then every point inQ(x 0) is a periodic point ofa(·) of periodp.  相似文献

Let S° be an inverse semigroup with semilattice biordered set E° of idempotents and E a weakly inverse biordered set with a subsemilattice Ep = { e ∈ E | arbieary f ∈ E, S(f , e) loheain in w(e)} isomorphic to E° by θ:Ep→E°. In this paper, it is proved that if arbieary f, g ∈E, f ←→ g→→ f°θD^s° g°θand there exists a mapping φ from Ep into the symmetric weakly inverse semigroup P J(E∪ S°) satisfying six appropriate conditions, then a weakly inverse semigroup ∑ can be constructed in P J(S°), called the weakly inverse hull of a weakly inverse system (S°, E, θ, φ) with I(∑) ≌ S°, E(∑) ∽- E. Conversely, every weakly inverse semigroup can be constructed in this way. Furthermore, a sufficient and necessary condition for two weakly inverse hulls to be isomorphic is also given.  相似文献

Then it is proved thatH(x)=Λ(x 1)...Λ(x k ) for anyx=(x 1, ...,x k ) ∈R k , if and only if the equation holds forx=(0,...,0). Next some multivariate extensions of the results by Resnick (1971,J. Let k≥2 be an integer and G = (V(G), E(G)) be a k-edge-connected graph. For XV(G), e(X) denotes the number of edges between X and V(G) − X. Let {si, ti}⊆XiV(G) (i=1,2) and X1X2=∅. We here prove that if k is even and e(Xi)≤2k−1 (i=1,2), then there exist paths P1 and P2 such that Pi joins si and ti, V(Pi)⊆Xi (i=1,2) and GE(P1P2) is (k−2)-edge-connected (for odd k, if e(X1)≤2k−2 and e(X2)≤2k−1, then the same result holds [10]), and we give a generalization of this result and some other results about paths not containing given edges.  相似文献

Let x : Mn^n→ R^n+1 be an n(≥2)-dimensional hypersurface immersed in Euclidean space Rn+1. Let σi(0≤ i≤ n) be the ith mean curvature and Qn = ∑i=0^n(-1)^i+1 (n^i)σ1^n-iσi. Recently, the author showed that Wn(x) = ∫M QndM is a conformal invariant under conformal group of R^n+1 and called it the nth Willmore functional of x. An extremal hypersurface of conformal invariant functional Wn is called an nth order Willmore hypersurface. The purpose of this paper is to construct concrete examples of the 3rd order Willmore hypersurfaces in Ra which have good geometric behaviors. The ordinary differential equation characterizing the revolutionary 3rd Willmore hypersurfaces is established and some interesting explicit examples are found in this paper.  相似文献

Let {Xi, Yi}i=1,2,... be an i.i.d. sequence of bivariate random vectors with P(Y1 = y) = 0 for all y. Put Mn(j) = max0≤k≤n-j (Xk+1 + ... Xk+j)Ik,j, where Ik,k+j = I{Yk+1 < ⋯ < Yk+j} denotes the indicator function for the event in brackets, 1 ≤ j ≤ n. Let Ln be the largest index l ≤ n for which Ik,k+l = 1 for some k = 0, 1, ..., n - l. The strong law of large numbers for “the maximal gain over the longest increasing runs,” i.e., for Mn(Ln) has been recently derived for the case where X1 has a finite moment of order 3 + ε, ε > 0. Assuming that X1 has a finite mean, we prove for any a = 0, 1, ..., that the s.l.l.n. for M(Ln - a) is equivalent to EX 1 3+a I{X1 > 0} < ∞. We derive also some new results for the a.s. asymptotics of Ln. Bibliography: 5 titles. __________ Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov POMI, Vol. 311, 2004, pp. 179–189.  相似文献
