In the present paper, we study the boundary layer flow of viscous incompressible fluid over an inclined stretching sheet with body force and heat transfer. Considering the stream function, we convert the boundary layer equation into nonlinear third-order ordinary differential equation together with appropriate boundary conditions in an infinite domain. The nonlinear boundary value problem has been linearized by using the quasilinearization technique. Then, we develop a nonpolynomial spline method, which is used to solve the flow problem. The convergence analysis of the method is also discussed. We study the velocity function for different angles of inclination and Froude number with the help of various graphs and tables. Then using these in heat convection flow, we obtain the expression for temperature field. Skin friction is also calculated. The various results have been given in tables. At last, we calculated the Nusselt number.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the heat transfer in a one‐dimensional fully developed flow of granular materials down a heated inclined plane. For the heat flux vector, we use a recently derived constitutive equation that reflects the dependence of the heat flux vector on the temperature gradient, the density gradient, and the velocity gradient in an appropriate frame invariant formulation. We use two different boundary conditions at the inclined surface: a constant temperature boundary condition and an adiabatic condition. A parametric study is performed to examine the effects of the material dimensionless parameters. The derived governing equations are coupled nonlinear second‐order ordinary differential equations, which are solved numerically, and the results are shown for the temperature, volume fraction, and velocity profiles. Summary The heat transfer in the flow of a second-order fluid, obeying Coleman and Noll's constitutive equation based on the postulate of gradually fading memory, over a stretching sheet has been studied. The boundary layer characteristics of this flow have been obtained. The velocity boundary layer thickness decreases for increasing values of the parameterKC/v. The thermal boundary layer thickness decreases and the Nusselt numberNu x increases for increasing Prandtl numberP r orC.  相似文献

The effect of variable viscosity on laminar mixed convection flow and heat transfer along a semi-infinite unsteady stretching sheet taking into account the effect of viscous dissipation is studied. The flow of the fluid and subsequent heat transfer from the stretching surface is investigated with the aid of suitable transformation variables. Solutions for the velocity and temperature fields are obtained for some representative values of the unsteadiness parameter, variable viscosity parameter, mixed convection parameter and Eckert number. Typical velocity and temperature profiles, the local skin friction coefficient and the local heat transfer rate are presented at selected controlling parameters.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer characteristics of a non-Newtonian viscoelastic fluid over a flat sheet with a linear velocity in the presence of thermal radiation and non-uniform heat source. The thermal conductivity is assumed to vary as a linear function of temperature. The basic equations governing the flow and heat transfer are in the form of partial differential equations, the same have been reduced to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations by applying suitable similarity transformation. The transformed equations are solved analytically by regular perturbation method. Numerical solution of the problem is also obtained by the efficient shooting method, which agrees well with the analytical solution. The effects of various physical parameters such as viscoelastic parameter, Chandrasekhar number, Prandtl number, variable thermal conductivity parameter, Eckert number, thermal radiation parameter and non-uniform heat source/sink parameters which determine the temperature profiles are shown in several plots and the heat transfer coefficient is tabulated for a range of values of said parameters. Some important findings reported in this work reveals that combined effect of variable thermal conductivity, radiation and non-uniform heat source have significant impact in controlling the rate of heat transfer in the boundary layer region.  相似文献

The entrained flow and heat transfer of a non-Newtonian third grade fluid due to a linearly stretching surface with partial slip is considered. The partial slip is controlled by a dimensionless slip factor, which varies between zero (total adhesion) and infinity (full slip). Suitable similarity transformations are used to reduce the resulting highly nonlinear partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. The issue of paucity of boundary conditions is addressed and an effective second order numerical scheme has been adopted to solve the obtained differential equations even without augmenting any extra boundary conditions. The important finding in this communication is the combined effects of the partial slip and the third grade fluid parameter on the velocity, skin-friction coefficient and the temperature field. It is interesting to find that the slip and the third grade fluid parameter have opposite effects on the velocity and the thermal boundary layers.  相似文献

Stagnation slip flow and heat transfer characteristics of a viscous fluid over a nonlinear stretching surface has been investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The analytical solution of the nonlinear system is obtained in series form using the very efficient homotopy analysis method (HAM). Convergence of the series solution is shown explicitly. Important features of flow and heat transfer characteristics are plotted and discussed. Comparison is made with existing numerical results when the stagnation‐point and slip effects are excluded. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2011  相似文献

The analysis of convective flow and heat transfer of a viscous heat generating fluid past a uniformly moving, infinite, vertical, porous plate has been made systematically with a view to throw adequate light on the effects of the plate-motion and the presence of heat generation/absorption on the flow and heat transfer characteristics. The equations of conservation of momentum and energy which govern the flow and heat transfer of the said problem have been solved numerically by the method of Runge-Kutta-Gill. The numerical results thus obtained for the flow and heat transfer characteristics have revealed many an interesting behaviour, of the skin friction and the rate of heat transfer coefficient at the plate.  相似文献

This paper presents a mathematical analysis of MHD flow and heat transfer to a laminar liquid film from a horizontal stretching surface. The flow of a thin fluid film and subsequent heat transfer from the stretching surface is investigated with the aid of similarity transformation. The transformation enables to reduce the unsteady boundary layer equations to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solution of resulting non-linear differential equations is found by using efficient shooting technique. Boundary layer thickness is explored numerically for some typical values of the unsteadiness parameter S and Prandtl number Pr, Eckert number Ec and Magnetic parameter Mn. Present analysis shows that the combined effect of magnetic field and viscous dissipation is to enhance the thermal boundary layer thickness.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the flow of a compressible (density‐gradient‐dependent) non‐linear fluid down an inclined plane, subject to radiation boundary condition. The convective heat transfer is also considered where a source term, similar to the Arrhenius type reaction, is included. The non‐dimensional forms of the equations are solved numerically and the competing effects of conduction, dissipation, heat generation and radiation are discussed. We consider a convective flow in a porous medium of an incompressible viscous conducting fluid impinging on a permeable stretching surface with suction, and internal heat generation/absorption. Using a similarity transformation the governing equations of the problem are reduced to a coupled third-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We first examine a number of special cases for which we may obtain exact solutions. We then obtain analytical solutions (by the Homotopy Analysis Method) and numerical solutions (by a boundary value problem solver), in order to further study the behavior of the nonlinear differential equations, for various values of the physical parameters. Our numerical solutions are shown to agree with the available results in the literature. We then employ the numerical results to bring out the effects of the suction parameter, heat source/sink parameter, stretching parameter, porosity parameter, the Prandtl number and the free convection parameter on the flow and heat transfer characteristics. In the absence of suction and free convection, our findings are in agreement with the corresponding numerical results of Attia [H.A. Attia, On the effectiveness of porosity on stagnation point flow towards a stretching surface with heat generation, Comput. Mater. Sci. 38 (2007) 741-745].  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the momentum and heat transfer characteristics in an incompressible electrically conducting non-Newtonian boundary layer flow of a viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet. The partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer characteristics are converted into highly non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. The effect of variable fluid viscosity, Magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, variable thermal conductivity, heat source/sink parameter and thermal radiation parameter are analyzed for velocity, temperature fields, and wall temperature gradient. The resultant coupled highly non-linear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by employing a shooting technique with fourth order Runge–Kutta integration scheme. The fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity, respectively, assumed to vary as an inverse and linear function of temperature. The analysis reveals that the wall temperature profile decreases significantly due to increase in magnetic field parameter. Further, it is noticed that the skin friction of the sheet decreases due to increase in the Magnetic parameter of the flow characteristics.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the influence of viscous dissipation and Soret effect on natural convection heat and mass transfer from vertical cone in a non-Darcy porous media saturated with non-Newtonian fluid. The surface of the cone and the ambient medium are maintained at constant but different levels of temperature and concentration. The Ostwald-de Waele power law model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. The governing equations are non-dimensionalized into non-similar form and then solved numerically by local non-similarity method. The effect of non-Darcy parameter, viscous dissipation parameter, Soret parameter, buoyancy ratio, Lewis number and the power-law index parameter on the temperature and concentration field as well as on the heat and mass transfer coefficients is analyzed.  相似文献

The solution of the steady laminar incompressible nonsimilar magneto-hydrodynamic boundary layer flow and heat transfer problem with viscous dissipation for electrically conducting fluids over two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies with pressure gradient and magnetic field has been presented. The partial differential equations governing the flow have been solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme. The computations have been carried out for flow over a cylinder and a sphere. The results indicate that the magnetic field tends to delay or prevent separation. The heat transfer strongly depends on the viscous dissipation parameter. When the dissipation parameter is positive (i.e. when the temperature of the wall is greater than the freestream temperature) and exceeds a certain value, the hot wall ceases to be cooled by the stream of cooler air because the ‘heat cushion’ provided by the frictional heat prevents cooling whereas the effect of the magnetic field is to remove the ‘heat cushion’ so that the wall continues to be cooled. The results are found to be in good agreement with those of the local similarity and local nonsimilarity methods except near the point of separation, but they are in excellent agreement with those of the difference-differential technique even near the point of separation.  相似文献

The fully developed electrically conducting micropolar fluid flow and heat transfer along a semi-infinite vertical porous moving plate is studied including the effect of viscous heating and in the presence of a magnetic field applied transversely to the direction of the flow. The Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer model which includes the effects of boundary and inertia forces is employed. The differential equations governing the problem have been transformed by a similarity transformation into a system of non-dimensional differential equations which are solved numerically by element free Galerkin method. Profiles for velocity, microrotation and temperature are presented for a wide range of plate velocity, viscosity ratio, Darcy number, Forchhimer number, magnetic field parameter, heat absorption parameter and the micropolar parameter. The skin friction and Nusselt numbers at the plates are also shown graphically. The present problem has significant applications in chemical engineering, materials processing, solar porous wafer absorber systems and metallurgy.  相似文献

This paper deals with the unsteady axisymmetric flow and heat transfer of a viscous fluid over a radially stretching sheet. The heat is prescribed at the surface. The modelled non-linear partial differential equations are solved using an analytic approach namely the homotopy analysis method. Unlike perturbation technique, this approach gives accurate analytic approximation uniformly valid for all dimensionless time. The explicit expressions for velocity, temperature and skin friction coefficient are developed. The influence of time on the velocity, temperature and skin friction coefficient is discussed.  相似文献

Consideration and careful investigation of a simple physical problem in heat transfer shows that even such a problem may not always have solutions and meaningful solutions exist only under restricted conditions. In other words, not all physical problems are well posed. The analysis given here shows that in many practical problems in fluid mechanics and heat transfer the question ‘how well posed is it?’ is non-trivial.  相似文献
