We study the spaces of left-invariant Riemannian metrics on a Lie group up to isometry, and up to isometry and scaling. In this paper, we see that such spaces can be identified with the orbit spaces of certain isometric actions on noncompact symmetric spaces. We also study some Lie groups whose spaces of left-invariant metrics up to isometry and scaling are small.  相似文献

The explicit formula for the distortion function of a connected Lie subgroup in a connected simply connected nilpotent Lie group is obtained. In particular, we prove that a function f: NR can be realized (up to equivalence) as the distortion function of a connected Lie subgroup in a connected simply connected nilpotent Lie group if and only if fnr for some nonnegative rQ. Considering lattices in Lie groups, we establish the analogous results for finitely generated nilpotent groups.  相似文献

Towards a Lie theory of locally convex groups   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In this survey, we report on the state of the art of some of the fundamental problems in the Lie theory of Lie groups modeled on locally convex spaces, such as integrability of Lie algebras, integrability of Lie subalgebras to Lie subgroups, and integrability of Lie algebra extensions to Lie group extensions. We further describe how regularity or local exponentiality of a Lie group can be used to obtain quite satisfactory answers to some of the fundamental problems. These results are illustrated by specialization to some specific classes of Lie groups, such as direct limit groups, linear Lie groups, groups of smooth maps and groups of diffeomorphisms.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the powerful tool Milnor bases to determine all the locally symmetric left invariant Riemannian metrics up to automorphism, on 3‐dimensional connected and simply connected Lie groups, by solving system of polynomial equations of constants structure of each Lie algebra . Moreover, we show that E 0(2) is the only 3‐dimensional Lie group with locally symmetric left invariant Riemannian metrics which are not symmetric.  相似文献

We obtain two versions of ODEs for the control function of normal geodesics for left-invariant sub-Riemannian metrics on Lie groups, involving only the structure of the Lie algebras of these groups. The first version is applicable to all Lie groups, while the second, to all matrix Lie groups; both versions are different invariant forms of the Hamiltonian system of the Pontryagin maximum principle for a left-invariant time-optimal problem on a Lie group. Basing on the first version, we find sufficient conditions for the normality of all geodesics of a given sub-Finslerian metric on a Lie group; in particular, we show that all three-dimensional Lie groups possess this property. The proofs use simple techniques of linear algebra.  相似文献

A nilpotent Lie algebra is called an Einstein nilradical if the corresponding Lie group admits a left-invariant Ricci soliton metric. While these metrics are of independent interest, their existence is intimately related to the existence of Einstein metrics on solvable Lie groups. In this note we are concerned with the following question: How are the Einstein and non-Einstein nilradicals distributed among nilpotent Lie algebras? A full answer to this question is not known and we restrict to the class of 2-step nilpotent Lie groups. Within this class, it is known that a generic group admits a Ricci soliton metric. Using techniques from Geometric Invariant Theory, we study the set of non-generic algebras to learn more about the distribution of non-Einstein nilradicals. Many new (continuous) families of non-isomorphic, non-Einstein nilradicals are constructed. Moreover, the dimension of these families can be arbitrarily large (depending on the dimension of the underlying Lie group). To show such large classes of Lie groups are pairwise non-isomorphic, a new technique is developed to distinguish between Lie algebras.  相似文献

We study left invariant contact forms and left invariant symplectic forms on Lie groups. In the case of filiform Lie groups we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a left invariant contact form and we prove the uniqueness of this contact form up to a nonzero scalar multiple. As an application we classify all symplectic structures on nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension ?6.  相似文献

We establish analogs of the three Bieberbach theorems for a lattice in a semidirect product where is a connected, simply connected solvable Lie group and is a compact subgroup of its automorphism group. We first prove that the action of on is metrically equivalent to an action of on a supersolvable Lie group. The latter is shown to be determined by itself up to an affine diffeomorphism. Then we characterize these lattices algebraically as polycrystallographic groups. Furthermore, we realize any polycrystallographic group as a lattice in a semidirect product with being a finite group whose order is bounded by a constant only depending on the dimension of . This generalization of the first Bieberbach theorem is used to obtain a partial generalization of the third one as well. Finally we show for any torsion free closed subgroup that the quotient is the total space of a vector bundle over a compact manifold B, where B is the quotient of a solvable Lie group by a torsion free polycrystallographic group. We show that for topological groups and loop contractible coefficients the cohomology groups of continuous group cochains and of group cochains that are continuous on some identity neighbourhood are isomorphic. Moreover, we show a similar statement for compactly generated groups and Lie groups holds and apply our results to different concepts of group cohomology for finite-dimensional Lie groups.  相似文献

本文将Grassmann流形上的Schubert子簇所满足的经典的Schubert条件推广到一般的复半单李群G的广义旗流形.利用复半单李群的表示理论,我们首先在李群的权空间上引入自然的Ehresman偏序.这一偏序可以导出李群的最高权表示的权系、Weyl群及其陪集空间上的Ehresman偏序.然后我们对一般的复表示定义了相应的射影空间,Grassmann流形和旗流形.这使得能够像经典的情形一样来分析广义旗流形的Schubert子簇满足的Schubert条件.在讨论中,我们还给出了李群G的Weyl群及其陪集空间中的Bruhat-Chevalley偏序的简单判别条件.我们的结果应用到例外群,给出了Fulton提出的关于例外群的Schubert分析的问题的部分回答.  相似文献

A flat Lorentzian Lie algebra is a left symmetric algebra endowed with a symmetric bilinear form of signature (?, +,…, +) such that left multiplications are skew-symmetric. In geometrical terms, a flat Lorentzian Lie algebra is the Lie algebra of a Lie group with a left-invariant Lorentzian metric with vanishing curvature. In this article, we show that any flat nonunimodular Lorentzian Lie algebras can be obtained as a double extension of flat Riemannian Lie algebras. As an application, we give all flat nonunimodular Lorentzian Lie algebras up to dimension 4.  相似文献

We prove that the asymptotic Assouad–Nagata dimension of a connected Lie group G equipped with a left-invariant Riemannian metric coincides with its topological dimension of G/C where C is a maximal compact subgroup. To prove it we will compute the Assouad–Nagata dimension of connected solvable Lie groups and semisimple Lie groups. As a consequence we show that the asymptotic Assouad–Nagata dimension of a polycyclic group equipped with a word metric is equal to its Hirsch length and that some wreath-type finitely generated groups can not be quasi-isometrically embedded into any cocompact lattice on a connected Lie group.  相似文献

For each simply connected three‐dimensional Lie group we determine the automorphism group, classify the left invariant Riemannian metrics up to automorphism, and study the extent to which curvature can be altered by a change of metric. Thereby we obtain the principal Ricci curvatures, the scalar curvature and the sectional curvatures as functions of left invariant metrics on the three‐dimensional Lie groups. Our results improve a bit of Milnor's results of [7] in the three‐dimensional case, and Kowalski and Nikv?cevi?'s results [6, Theorems 3.1 and 4.1] (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The main result of this paper is that if all the σ-representations of a separable locally compact nilpotent group are type I, then all the irreducible σ-representations are (up to equivalence) induced from one-dimensional σ-representations. This generalizes a result of Kirillov for simply connected nilpotent Lie groups. Parallels with the orbit theory for Lie groups are drawn.  相似文献

By studying the action of the Weyl group of a simple Lie algebra on its root lattice, we construct torsion free subgroups of small and explicitly determined index in a large infinite class of Coxeter groups. If K is a Lie group and q : PM is a principal K-bundle over the compact manifold M, then any invariant symmetric V-valued bilinear form on the Lie algebra \mathfrakk{\mathfrak{k}} of K defines a Lie algebra extension of the gauge algebra by a space of bundle-valued 1-forms modulo exact 1-forms. In this article, we analyze the integrability of this extension to a Lie group extension for non-connected, possibly infinite-dimensional Lie groups K. If K has finitely many connected components, we give a complete characterization of the integrable extensions. Our results on gauge groups are obtained by the specialization of more general results on extensions of Lie groups of smooth sections of Lie group bundles. In this more general context, we provide sufficient conditions for integrability in terms of data related only to the group K.  相似文献

It is well known that we have an algebraic characterization of connected Lie groups of polynomial volume growth: a Lie group G has polynomial volume growth if and only if it is of type R. In this paper, we shall give a geometric characterization of connected Lie groups of polynomial volume growth in terms of the distance distortion of the subgroups. More precisely, we prove that a connected Lie group G has polynomial volume growth if and only if every closed subgroup has a polynomial distortion in G.  相似文献
