In a coincidence experiment we have measured the absolute fully differential cross section for atomic-field bremsstrahlung over a range of photon energies for electrons of 140 keV incident on gold and aluminum. The results are compared with the available calculations.  相似文献

Recent precise measurements of the electron bremsstrahlung cross section d2σ/dkk at the short wavelength limit for an incident electron energy of 1.84 MeV important discrepancies between experimental results and earlier theoretical calculations. This numerical study investigates the sensitivity of non-equilibrium shockwave structure to uncertainties in (a) the ground and excited state continuum radiative cross section and (b) the bound-bound radiative cross section in a three level (ground, excited, and free electronic states considered) argon-like gas at Mach 18 and a pressure of 1 cm Hg. Changing the values of the radiative cross sections by an order of magnitude does not significantly influence the relaxation region; however, a large change occurs in not only the magnitude but also the extent of both the electron and excited state precursors. Increasing either the ground state continuum or the bound-bound cross section decreases the number of free electrons in front of the shock wave. These cross sections also influence the extent of the electron precursor through their influence on the ratio of the electrons produced by ground state photoionization to those produced by ground state photoexcitation followed by excited state photoionization. The bound-bound cross section also controls the excited state precursor, because the production of excited states is entirely due to line radiation. Increasing the excited state photoionization cross section increases both the magnitude and extent of the electron precursor, because the cross section influences the ratio of the two processes that compete to produce free electrons, and at the same time it influences the magnitude of the excited state precursor.  相似文献

The exact value of the electron-atom collisional ionization cross section for argon is not accurately known. The purpose of the present research is to determine numerically the effect of varying the magnitude of the electron-atom cross section on nonequilibrium shock-wave structure. Mach 18 shock waves propagating into an argon-like gas at 1 cm-Hg and 300°K have been analyzed. Thermal, ionizational, and excitational non-equilibrium are considered in the relaxation region behind the shock wave. Electrons in the relaxation region are formed by a two-step collisional process, wherein the atom is first excited and then it is ionized. The precursor is formed by ground and excited state continuum radiation and line radiation which is emitted, but not reabsorbed, in the region behind the shock wave. When the electron-atom ionization cross section is varied from 1·86 × 10?4to 1·86 × 10?2cm2/erg, the results show that (1) it influences the coupling between the precursor and relaxation region through the radiative source functions, (2) it does not influence the distance necessary to attain equilibrium behind the shock wave, (3) it inversely influences the magnitude of the precursor ionization, and excitation, and (4) it inversely influences both the free electron and excited state population in the relaxation layer.  相似文献

The spectral distribution of the absolute differential cross section for total bremsstrahlung, including ordinary and polarization, for the scattering of 0.6-keV electrons from free xenon atoms has been measured. The bremsstrahlung photons have been detected at an angle of 97° with respect to the electron motion direction. The investigations have been carried out in the ultrasoft x-ray spectral region 60–240 eV. The results are compared with the total cross sections for bremsstrahlung calculated in several approximations for the scattering of 5-and 25-keV electrons by Xe atoms. Both the value and the spectral distribution of the experimental absolute cross sections are most satisfactorily reproduced by the calculations in the distorted partial wave approximation.  相似文献

We compare WKB and exact wave functions for inverse power-law potentials and derive a universal algebraic formula reproducing reflection phases and scattering phase shifts with uniform high accuracy for any wave length. In the method of resonating-group structure, the wave function of 6Li is assumed to have a single channel of alpha and deuteron substructures in the ground state. It is shown that the intercluster exchange of nucleons is an important effect which causes significant change in the root mean square radius and the dipole transition cross section. Due to the lack of symmetry in space coordinates of 6Li, the dipole operator is not identical to the mean square radius operator for this sum rule calculation and is expected to display like behavior in similar systems. It is also shown that the deuteron substructure in this nucleus is substantially larger than the alpha substructure.  相似文献

The determination of photoionisation cross-sections using the Kohn-Sham wave functions from accurate density functional theory (DFT) calculations is considered. The continuum electrons wave function is specified by its momentum measurable in the detector rather than fixed angular momentum and energy. The method is applied to the test case of a water molecule, where the DFT calculations show excellent agreement to experiment in the ionisation energies if a vertical transition is considered. The continuum electron is described by an analytical wave function and the matrix elements are calculated in both in length and velocity form of the dipole operator. The cross-sections agree well with the experiment in particular for the velocity form.  相似文献

In this paper, inspired by V. A. Borovikov’s pioneering work, we study a wave diffracted by a convex cone of arbitrary cross section. Our analysis is focused on the shadow boundary of the wave reflected by the cone surface, where geometric optics yields nonphysical weak singularity. The uniform asymptotic expansion constructed here, which is expressed in terms of the parabolic cylinder functions, is regular at the geometric shadow boundary. Outside the penumbra region, it perfectly matches the ray expansions of the reflected wave, yielding in addition a regular spherical wave, would-be scattered by the cone vertex. The extremal values, obtained previously [1, 2], of the differential cross section for elastic scattering in the region of the diffraction cone are generalized to other angles and reduced to a form suitable for comparison with experiment. Similar results are also found in the case of inelastic binary reactions and overlap functions.
