The overall hardness scale of the ultra-high energy neutrino-nucleon interactions is usually estimated as Q 2m w 2 The effect of non-conservation of weak currents pushes this scale up to the top quark mass squared and changes dynamics of the scattering process. The Double Leading Log Approximation provides simple and numerically accurate formula for the top-bottom contribution to the total cross section σνN . Corresponding correction to σνN appears to be numerically large. It is comparable with the leading contribution evaluated in the massless quark approximation.  相似文献

We discuss heavy quark contributions to the neutrino-nucleon total cross section at very high energies, well above the real top production threshold. The top-bottom weak current is found to generate strong left-right asymmetry of neutrino-nucleon interactions. We separate contributions of different helicity states and make use of the κ-factorization to derive simple and practically useful formulas for the left-handed (F L ) and right-handed (F R ) components of the conventional structure function 2xF 3 = F L F R in terms of the integrated gluon density. We show that F L F R and, consequently, xF 3F T , where F T is the transverse structure function. The conventional structure function F 2 = F S + F T at Q 2m t 2 appears to be dominated by its scalar (also known as longitudinal) component F S and the hierarchy F S F L F R arises naturally. We evaluate the total neutrino-nucleon cross section at ultra-high energies within the color dipole BFKL-formalism.  相似文献

We study spectral distortions of diffuse ultra-high energy (UHE) neutrino flavour fluxes resulting due to physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). Even large spectral differences between flavours at the source are massaged into a common shape at earth by SM oscillations, thus, any significant observed spectral differences are an indicator of new physics present in the oscillation probability during propagation. Lorentz symmetry violation (LV) and neutrino decay are examples, and result in significant distortion of the fluxes and of the well-known bounds on them, which may allow UHE detectors to probe LV parameters, lifetimes and the mass hierarchy over a broad range.  相似文献

Structure functions obtained from high energy neutrino and antineutrino scattering from an iron target are presented. These were extracted from the combined data of Fermilab experiments E616 and E701; these utilized narrow band beam runs between 1979–1982. The structure functions are used to test the validity of quarkparton model (QPM) predictions and to extract the QCD scale parameter Λ from fits to the Altarelli-Parisi equations.  相似文献

The interpretation of the charged (CCQE) and neutral (NCE) current quasi elastic events collected by the MiniBooNE Collaboration involves a number of unresolved issues. While it has been suggested that the data can be explained in terms of an effective nucleon axial mass, MA, the results of our theoretical calculations suggest that the CCQE and NCE samples cannot be described by the same value of MA. We argue that the disagreement between theory and data may arise from the uncertainties associated with the flux average procedure. We also analyze the role of the strange quark in NCE interactions and find that, due to a cancellation between proton and neutron contributions, it turns out to be negligible.  相似文献

Using data on semi-inclusive pion electroproduction as input we calculate in the framework of the quark parton model the distribution of pions in the current fragmentation region for inelastic neutrino interactions. Results for the π+/π? asymmetry are presented for both charged and neutral currents. These provide stringent tests of the parton fragmentation hypothesis and the Weinberg-Salam gauge model.  相似文献

The DONUT experiment has analyzed 203 neutrino interactions recorded in nuclear emulsion targets. A decay search has found evidence of four tau neutrino interactions with an estimated background of 0.34 events. This number is consistent with the Standard Model expectation.  相似文献

We present an updated version of the solution to the solar neutrino problem based on non-standard flavor changing neutrino interactions (FCNI) and non-universal flavor diagonal neutrino interactions (FDNI). We find a good fit not only to the total rates measured by all solar neutrino experiments but also to the day-night and seasonal variations of the event rate, as well as the recoil electron energy spectrum measured by the SuperKamiokande collaboration.  相似文献

Backward proton and pion production is studied in ν and \(\bar v\) charged current interactions in neon. The results are compared with other experiments and theory. The complete backward proton data is compatible with protons produced by reinteractions in the nucleus. However in events with only one proton, muon variables appear correlated to those for the backward proton, as expected by the two-nucleon correlation model.  相似文献

Scaling observed in neutrino nucleon interactions at relatively low energies and not too small x = ?q22 MPv, is attributed to elastic v(v) scattering off three point-like, handed Zweig-Gell-Man valence quarks with low effective mass. In this paper we study dynamical CPT-violation in the neutrino sector as induced by the dark energy of the universe. Specifically we consider a dark energy model where the dark energy scalar derivatively interacts with the right-handed neutrinos. This type of derivative coupling leads to cosmological CPT-violation during the evolution of the background field of the dark energy. We calculate the induced CPT-violation of left-handed neutrinos and find that the CPT-violation produced in this way is consistent with the present experimental limit and sensitive to future neutrino oscillation experiments such as the neutrino factory.
