A two‐step synthesis of a novel mesostructured silicate, KIL‐2, and its manganese‐containing analogue, Mn/KIL‐2, has been developed. KIL‐2 possesses interparticle mesopores with pore dimensions between 5 and 60 nm and a surface area of 448 m2. The mesopores are formed by the aggregation of silica nanoparticles, which creates a network with interparticle voids. The particle size and the pore diameters depend on the temperature of the ageing step (first step) and on the solvothermal treatment in ethanol (second step), respectively. Mn/KIL‐2 contains octahedrally coordinated Mn3+ (80 %) and tetrahedrally coordinated Mn2+ (20 %) ions. Mn3+ ions are present in the extra‐framework MnOx nanoparticles with typical dimensions of 2 nm, which are homogeneously distributed throughout the material. Mn2+ ions occur as isolated manganese framework sites. The material is also able to retain its structure characteristics after the hydrothermal treatment in boiling water. Because of its non‐toxic nature and cost‐effective synthesis, Mn/KIL‐2 thus exhibits properties that are needed for an environment‐friendly catalyst.  相似文献

A nanoparticle-based strategy has been demonstrated using structurally-tailored tert-butylcalixarenes immobilized on gold nanoparticles to tune the guest access to the calixarene cone cavity for cationic recognition. This strategy exploits the interparticle charge-induced aggregation upon selective capture of metal cations into the nanoparticle-immobilized tert-butylcalixarenes, which produces calorimetric changes for the detection. A possible pathway for the binding of M(n+) into the t-BCA structure and the interparticle interaction is proposed for the formation of an electric double layer inducing the interparticle association responsible for the red-shifted surface plasmon resonance band of the nanoparticles. The value of this class of calorimetric nanoprobes will be in the area of designing advanced host-guest probes using a variety of calixarene ligands for ionic recognition in a simplistic detection format.  相似文献

Ferro- and ferrimagnetic nanoparticles are difficult to manipulate in solution as a consequence of the formation of magnetically induced nanoparticle aggregates, which hamper the utility of these particles for applications ranging from data storage to bionanotechnology. Nonmagnetic shells that encapsulate these magnetic particles can reduce the interparticle magnetic interactions and improve the dispersibility of the nanoparticles in solution. A route to create uniform silica shells around individual cobalt ferrite nanoparticles--which uses poly(acrylic acid) to bind to the nanoparticle surface and inhibit nanoparticle aggregation prior to the addition of a silica precursor--was developed. In the absence of the poly(acrylic acid) the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles irreversibly aggregated during the silica shell formation. The thickness of the silica shell around the core-shell nanoparticles could be controlled in order to tune the interparticle magnetic coupling as well as inhibit magnetically induced nanoparticle aggregation. These ferrimagnetic core-silica shell structures form stable dispersion in polar solvents such as EtOH and water, which is critical for enabling technologies that require the assembly or derivatization of ferrimagnetic particles in solution.  相似文献

Dopamine(DA) plays an important role in health and peripheral nervous systems. Colorimetric detection of DA has the advantage of color change and simplicity in operation and instrumentation. Herein, we report a highly sensitive and selective colorimetric detection of DA by using two specific ligands modified Ag nanoparticles, where the DA molecules can make dual recognition with high specificity. The colloidal suspension of modified Ag nanoparticles was agglomerated after interacting with DA, while the color of Ag nanoparticles suspension changed from yellow to brown, arising from the interparticle plasmon coupling during the aggregation of Ag nanoparticles. The modified Ag nanoparticles suspension and agglomeration were confirmed by transmission electron microscope images. The optical properties behind the color change were thoroughly investigated by using UV-Vis and Raman techniques. The changes in p H, zeta potential, particle size and surface charge density by adding DA were also determined by using dynamic light scattering measurements. The detection limits of modified Ag probes for DA was calculated to be 6.13′10~(-6) mol L~(-1)(S/N=2.04) and the correlation co-efficient was determined to be 0.9878. Because of the simplicity in operation and instrumentation of the colorimetric method, this work may afford a feasible, fast approach for detecting and monitoring the DA levels in physiological and pathological systems.  相似文献

The nanoparticles in solution represent a model system, where the well-established colloidal theories such as the Debye–Hückel theory and/or Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek theory can be implemented to predict the nanoparticle phase behavior. Recently, reentrant phase transitions in a wide range of colloids (e.g., inorganic and organic nanoparticles, polymers, and biomolecules) have been observed, which are not consistent with these theories. The colloids in the reentrant phase behavior undergo a phase change and return back to the original phase with respect to a specific physiochemical parameter (e.g., ionic strength, concentration of different additives, temperature, and so on). The nanoparticle–polymer/multivalent ion systems, demonstrating such phase transition and the corresponding phase behavior in terms of interparticle interactions, have been probed by small-angle scattering. It has been shown how the tuning in interparticle interactions using external parameters can lead to reentrant phase behavior and use the nanoparticle aggregation for building nanohybrids. The deviations of the present observations from those of the standard colloidal theories and the anticipated challenges are also discussed.  相似文献

We investigate the aggregation kinetics of gold nanoparticles using both experimental techniques (i.e., quasi-elastic light scattering, UV-visible spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy) and mathematical modeling (i.e., constant-number Monte Carlo). Aggregation of gold nanoparticles is induced by replacing the surface citrate groups with benzyl mercaptan. We show that the experimental results can be well described by the model in which interparticle interactions are described by the classical DLVO theory. We find that final gold nanoparticle aggregates have a fractal structure with a mass fractal dimension of 2.1-2.2. Aggregation of approximately 11 initial gold nanoparticles appears to be responsible for the initial color change of suspension. This kinetic study can be used to predict the time required for the initial color change of a gold nanoparticle suspension and should provide insights into the design and optimization of colorimetric sensors that utilize aggregation of gold nanoparticles.  相似文献

Aggregation of gold nanoparticles of increasing size has been studied as a consequence of adsorption of 2-aminothiophenol (ATP) on gold nanoparticle surfaces. The capping property of ATP in the acidic pH range has been accounted from UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) studies. The effect of nanoparticle size (8-55 nm) on the nature of aggregation as well as the variation in the optical response due to variable degree of interparticle coupling effects among the gold particles have been critically examined. Various techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, zeta-potential, and average particle size measurement were undertaken to characterize the nanoparticle aggregates. The aggregate size, interparticle distances, and absorption band wavelengths were found to be highly dependent on the pH of the medium and the concentration of the capping agent, ATP. The acquired SERS spectra of ATP relate the interparticle spacing. It has been observed that the SERS signal intensities are different for different sized gold nanoparticles.

The ability to control the crystallization behaviour (including its absence) of particles, be they biomolecules such as globular proteins, inorganic colloids, nanoparticles, or metal atoms in an alloy, is of both fundamental and technological importance. Much can be learnt from the exquisite control that biological systems exert over the behaviour of proteins, where protein crystallization and aggregation are generally suppressed, but where in particular instances complex crystalline assemblies can be formed that have a functional purpose. We also explore the insights that can be obtained from computational modelling, focussing on the subtle interplay between the interparticle interactions, the preferred local order and the resulting crystallization kinetics. In particular, we highlight the role played by "frustration", where there is an incompatibility between the preferred local order and the global crystalline order, using examples from atomic glass formers and model anisotropic particles.  相似文献

A detailed study of CdSe aerogels prepared by oxidative aggregation of primary nanoparticles (prepared at room temperature and high temperature conditions, >250 degrees C), followed by CO2 supercritical drying, is described. The resultant materials are mesoporous, with an interconnected network of colloidal nanoparticles, and exhibit BET surface areas up to 224 m2/g and BJH average pore diameters in the range of 16-32 nm. Powder X-ray diffraction studies indicate that these materials retain the crystal structure of the primary nanoparticles, with a slight increase in primary particle size upon gelation and aerogel formation. Optical band gap measurements and photoluminescence studies show that the as-prepared aerogels retain the quantum-confined optical properties of the nanoparticle building blocks despite being connected into a 3-D network. The specific optical characteristics of the aerogel can be further modified by surface ligand exchange at the wet-gel stage, without destroying the gel network.  相似文献

The size of gold nanoparticle aggregates was controlled by manipulating the interparticle interaction. To manipulate the interparticle interaction of gold nanoparticles prepared by citrate reduction, we applied the substitutive adsorption of benzyl mercaptan on the particle surface in the absence of the cross-linking effect. Various experimental techniques such as UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, quasi-elastic light scattering, and zeta-potential measurement were used to characterize the nanoparticle aggregates. Our results suggest that the replacement of the trivalent citrate ions adsorbed on the nanoparticle surface with monovalent benzyl mercaptan ions should destabilize the particles, causing aggregation and hence the increase in the size of nanoparticle aggregates. These experimental results were successfully rationalized by the classical DLVO (Derjaguin-Landau-Vervey-Overbeek) theory that describes the interparticle interaction and colloidal stability in solution. Our findings suggest that the control of surface potential is crucial in the design of stable gold nanoparticle aggregates.  相似文献

Precursor silica nanoparticles can evolve to silicalite-1 crystals under hydrothermal conditions in the presence of tetrapropylammonium (TPA) cations. It has been proposed that in relatively dilute sols of silica, TPA, water, and ethanol, silicalite-1 growth is preceded by precursor nanoparticle evolution and then occurs by oriented aggregation. Here, we present a study of silicalite-1 crystallization in more concentrated mixtures and propose that growth follows a path similar to that taken in the dilute system. Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were used to measure nanoparticle size and to monitor zeolite nucleation and early-stage crystal development. The precursor silica nanoparticles, present in the clear sols prior to crystal formation, were characterized using two SAXS instruments, and the influence of interparticle interactions is discussed. In addition, SAXS was used to detect the onset of secondary particle formation, and HRTEM was used to characterize their structure and morphology. Cryo-TEM allowed for in situ visual observation of the nanoparticle population. Combined results are consistent with growth by aggregation of silica nanoparticles and of the larger secondary crystallites. Finally, a unique intergrowth structure that was formed during the more advanced growth stages is reported, lending additional support for the proposal of aggregative growth.  相似文献

The understanding of the detailed molecular interactions between (GSH) glutathione molecules in the assembly of metal nanoparticles is important for the exploitation of the biological reactivity. We report herein results of an investigation of the assembly of gold nanoparticles mediated by glutathione and the disassembly under controlled conditions. The interparticle interactions and reactivities were characterized by monitoring the evolution of the surface plasmon resonance band using the spectrophotometric method and the hydrodynamic sizes of the nanoparticle assemblies using the dynamic light scattering technique. The interparticle reactivity of glutathiones adsorbed on gold nanoparticles depends on the particle sizes and the ionic strength of the solution. Larger-sized particles were found to exhibit a higher degree of interparticle assembly than smaller-sized particles. The assembly-disassembly reversibility is shown to be highly dependent on pH and additives in the solution. The interactions of the negatively charged citrates surrounding the GSH monolayer on the particle surface were believed to produce more effective interparticle spatial and electrostatic isolation than the case of OH (-) groups surrounding the GSH monolayer. The results have provided new insights into the hydrogen-bonding character of the interparticle molecular interaction of glutathiones bound on gold nanoparticles. The fact that the interparticle hydrogen-bonding interactions in the assembly and disassembly processes can be finely tuned by pH and chemical means has implications to the exploitation of the glutathione-nanoparticle system in biological detection and biosensors.  相似文献

Glycidyl‐functional polymer nanoparticles [poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA)] were fabricated with microemulsion polymerization. The successful fabrication of PGMA nanoparticles was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). A TEM image showed that the average diameter of the PGMA nanoparticles was approximately 10–28 nm and was fairly monodisperse. As the surfactant concentration increased, the average size of the nanoparticles decreased and approached an asymptotic value. A significant reduction of the nanoparticle size to the nanometer scale led to an enhanced number of surface functionalities, which played an important role in the curing reaction. The PGMA nanoparticles were cured with a low‐temperature curing agent, diethylene triamine, to produce ultrafine thermoset nanoparticles. The low‐temperature curing process was performed below the glass‐transition temperature of PGMA to prevent the coagulation and deformation of the nanoparticles. A TEM image indicated that the cured PGMA nanoparticles did not exhibit interparticle aggregation and morphological transformation during curing. The average size of the cured PGMA nanoparticles was consistent with that of the pristine PGMA nanoparticles © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have demonstrated that carboxylic acid-capped gold nanoparticles were self-assembled to form two-dimensional (2D) and/or three-dimensional (3D) superlattices at an air/water interface in the presence of a bifunctional hydrogen-bonding mediator such as 4-pyridinecarboxylic acid (PyC) or trans-3-(3-pyridyl)acrylic acid (PyA). Transmission electron microscopy revealed a hexagonal close-packed arrangement of nanoparticles in the superlattice with an extension of interparticle spacing. In the 2D superlattices, larger particles produced a higher-quality assembly having long-range translational ordering. Attenuated total reflectance IR (ATR-IR) spectroscopy revealed the presence of hydrogen bonds between the mediator used and the capping agents of carboxylic acid on nanoparticle surfaces. Since the experimentally obtained interparticle separation distance agreed approximately with that obtained by the geometrical model calculations, we conclude that the hydrogen-bonding mediation controlled the interparticle spacing or structure by monomolecular incorporation between adjacent nanoparticles in the superlattices.  相似文献

A core-shell composite consisting of a palladium (Pd) nanoparticle and a hollow carbon shell (Pd@hmC) was employed as a catalyst for aerobic oxidation of various alcohols. The core-shell structure was synthesized by consecutive coatings of Pd nanoparticles with siliceous and carbon layers followed by removal of the intermediate siliceous layer. Structural characterizations using TEM and N(2) adsorption-desorption measurements revealed that Pd@hmC thus-obtained was composed of a Pd nanoparticle core of 3-6 nm in diameter and a hollow carbon shell with well-developed mesopore (ca. 2.5 nm in diameter) and micropore (ca. 0.4-0.8 nm in diameter) systems. When compared to some Pd-supported carbons, Pd@hmC showed a high level of catalytic activity for oxidation of benzyl alcohol into benzaldehyde using atmospheric pressure of O(2) as an oxidant. The Pd@hmC composite also exhibited a high level of catalytic activity for aerobic oxidations of other primary benzylic and allylic alcohols into corresponding aldehydes. The presence of a well-developed pore system in the lateral carbon shell enabled efficient diffusion of both substrates and products to reach the central Pd nanoparticles, leading to such high catalytic activities. This core-shell structure also provided high thermal stability of Pd nanoparticles toward coalescence and/or aggregation due to the physical isolation of each Pd nanoparticle from neighboring particles by the carbon shell: this specific property of Pd@hmC resulted in possible regeneration of catalytic activity for these aerobic oxidations by a high-temperature heat treatment of the sample recovered after catalytic reactions.  相似文献

This paper describes the results of an investigation of the interparticle interactions and reactivities in the assembly of gold nanoparticles mediated by cyanine dyes. The combination of the positively charged indolenine cyanine dyes and the negatively charged gold nanoparticles is shown to form a J-aggregate bridged assembly of nanoparticles, in addition to hydrophobic interparticle and electrostatic dye-particle interactions. Such interparticle interactions and reactivities are studied by probing the absorption of J-aggregates and fluorescence from the dyes and the surface plasmon resonance absorption from the nanoparticles. The J-aggregation of the dyes adsorbed on the nanoparticles is shown to play an important role in the assembly of nanoparticles. The spectral evolution of the J-band of the dyes and the surface plasmon resonance band of the nanoparticles was found to be sensitive to the nature of the charge and the structure of the dyes. The fluorescence quenching for the dyes was shown to be quantitatively related to the surface coverage of the dyes on the nanocrystal surfaces. These findings have provided important information for assessing a two-step process involving a rapid adsorption of the dyes on the nanoparticles and a subsequent assembly of the nanoparticles involving a combination of interparticle J-aggregation and hydrophobic interactions of the adsorbed dyes. The results are discussed in terms of the structural effects of the dyes, and the interparticle molecular interactions and reactivities, which provide important physical and chemical insights into the design of dye-nanoparticle structured functional nanomaterials.  相似文献

The ability to tune interparticle spatial properties of nanoparticle assemblies is essential for the design of sensing materials toward desired sensitivity and selectivity. This paper reports findings of an investigation of molecularly mediated thin film assemblies of metal nanoparticles with controllable interparticle spatial properties as a sensing array. The interparticle spatial properties are controlled by a combination of alpha,omega-difunctional alkyl mediators (X-(CH(2))(n)-X) such as alkyl dithiols, dicarboxylate acids, and alkanethiol shells capped on nanoparticles. Alkanethiolate-capped gold and gold-silver alloy nanoparticles (2-3 nm) were studied as model building blocks toward the thin film assemblies, whereas the variation of alkyl chain length manipulates the interparticle spacing. The thin films assembled on an interdigitated microelectrode array platform are characterized for determining their responses to the sorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The correlation between the response sensitivity and the interparticle spacing properties revealed not only a clear dependence of the sensitivity on alkyl chain length but also the occurrence of a dramatic change of the sensitivity in a region of chain length for the alkyl mediator comparable with that of the capping alkyl chains. This finding reflects a balance between the interparticle chain-chain cohesive interdigitation and the nanostructure-vapor interaction which determines the relative change of the electrical conductivity of the inked nanoparticle thin film in response to vapor sorption. The results, along with statistical analysis of the sensor array data in terms of sensitivity and selectivity, have provided important insights into the detailed delineation between the interparticle spacing and the nanostructured sensing properties.  相似文献

Gold nanoparticles decorated with a double‐armed, deep‐cavity calix[4]pyrrole were prepared and fully characterized. Transmission electron microscopy imaging revealed that the average diameter of the particles was approximately 4 nm both before and after attachment of the receptor to the surface. The calix[4]pyrrole‐functionalized nanoparticles exhibited highly elevated sensing behavior (approximately 1000 times in dichloromethane) relative to its monomeric congener while maintaining its guest selectivity. The receptor–nanoparticle conjugate (nanoreceptor) showed significant aggregation upon addition of the biphenolate anion, an effect ascribed to anion‐mediated interparticle linking. The receptor–nanoparticle conjugate is also capable of extracting the fluoride anion (as its tetrabutylammonium salt) from an aqueous layer to an organic medium. Control experiments revealed that this extraction is not possible when using the analogous monomeric receptor.  相似文献
