For any connected (not necessarily complete) Riemannian manifold, we construct a probability measure of type , where dx is the Riemannian volume measure and V is a function C-smooth outside a closed set of zero volume, satisfying Poincaré–Sobolev type functional inequalities. In particular, V is C-smooth on the whole manifold when the Poincaré and the super-Poincaré inequalities are considered. The Sobolev inequality for infinite measures are also studied.  相似文献

In this article we study variable exponent Sobolev spaces on Riemannian manifolds. The spaces are examined in the case of compact manifolds. Continuous and compact embeddings are discussed. We prove maximum and comparison principles for weak distributional solutions of quasilinear, possibly singular or degenerate, elliptic differential inequalities in divergence form on complete Riemannian manifolds. A new definition of ellipticity for nonlinear operators on Riemannian manifolds is introduced, covering the standard important examples. We develop the optimal transportation approach to modified log-Sobolev inequalities and to isoperimetric inequalities. Various sufficient conditions for such inequalities are given. Some of them are new even in the classical log-Sobolev case. The idea behind many of these conditions is that measures with a non-convex potential may enjoy such functional inequalities provided they have a strong integrability property that balances the lack of convexity. In addition, several known criteria are recovered in a simple unified way by transportation methods and generalized to the Riemannian setting. The research of A.V. Németh, Variational inequalities on Hadamard manifolds, Nonlinear Anal. 52 (2003) 1491–1498]. We study a family of geometric variational functionals introduced by Hamilton, and considered later by Daskalopulos, Sesum, Del Pino and Hsu, in order to understand the behavior of maximal solutions of the Ricci flow both in compact and noncompact complete Riemannian manifolds of finite volume. The case of dimension two has some peculiarities, which force us to use different ideas from the corresponding higher-dimensional case. Under some natural restrictions, we investigate sufficient and necessary conditions which allow us to show the existence of connected regions with a connected complementary set (the so-called “separating regions”). In dimension higher than two, the associated problem of minimization is reduced to an auxiliary problem for the isoperimetric profile (with the corresponding investigation of the minimizers). This is possible via an argument of compactness in geometric measure theory valid for the case of complete finite volume manifolds. Moreover, we show that the minimum of the separating variational problem is achieved by an isoperimetric region. The dimension two requires different techniques of proof. The present results develop a definitive theory, which allows us to circumvent the shortening curve flow approach of the above mentioned authors at the cost of some applications of the geometric measure theory and of the Ascoli-Arzela's Theorem.  相似文献

In this paper we present new results on two‐weight Hardy, Hardy–Poincaré and Rellich type inequalities with remainder terms on a complete noncompact Riemannian Manifold M. In this paper, we study complete open n-dimensional Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and large volume growth. We prove among other things that such a manifold is diffeomorphic to a Euclidean n-space if its sectional curvature is bounded from below and the volume growth of geodesic balls around some point is not too far from that of the balls in . In this paper we obtain essentially sharp generalized Keller-Osserman conditions for wide classes of differential inequalities of the form Lu?b(x)f(u)?(|∇u|) and Lu?b(x)f(u)?(|∇u|)−g(u)h(|∇u|) on weighted Riemannian manifolds, where L is a non-linear diffusion-type operator. Prototypical examples of these operators are the p-Laplacian and the mean curvature operator. The geometry of the underlying manifold is reflected, via bounds for the modified Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature, by growth conditions for the functions b and ?. A weak maximum principle which extends and improves previous results valid for the φ-Laplacian is also obtained. Geometric comparison results, valid even in the case of integral bounds for the modified Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor, are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the solvability of some elliptic equations to prove some estimates of the weighted mean curvature and some related rigidity theorems. Let be a Riemannian compact -manifold. We know that for any , there exists such that for any , , being the smallest constant possible such that the inequality remains true for any . We call the ``first best constant'. We prove in this paper that it is possible to choose and keep a finite constant. In other words we prove the existence of a ``second best constant' in the exceptional case of Sobolev inequalities on compact Riemannian manifolds.

Summary. This paper presents a dimension-free Harnack type inequality for heat semigroups on manifolds, from which a dimension-free lower bound is obtained for the logarithmic Sobolev constant on compact manifolds and a new criterion is proved for the logarithmic Sobolev inequalities (abbrev. LSI) on noncompact manifolds. As a result, it is shown that LSI may hold even though the curvature of the operator is negative everywhere. Consider Riemannian manifolds for which the sectional curvature of and second fundamental form of the boundary are bounded above by one in absolute value. Previously we proved that if has sufficiently small inradius (i.e. all points are sufficiently close to the boundary), then the cut locus of exhibits canonical branching behavior of arbitrarily low branching number. In particular, if is thin in the sense that its inradius is less than a certain universal constant (known to lie between and ), then collapses to a triply branched simple polyhedral spine.

We use a graphical representation of the stratification structure of such a collapse, and relate numerical invariants of the graph to topological invariants of when is simply connected. In particular, the number of connected strata of the cut locus is a topological invariant. When is -dimensional and compact, has complexity in the sense of Matveev, and is a connected sum of copies of the real projective space , copies chosen from the lens spaces , and handles chosen from or , with 3-balls removed, where . Moreover, we construct a thin metric for every graph, and hence for every homeomorphism type on the list.
