We propose a new method for the development of a tunable optical bandpass filter (TOBF) based on a linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (LCFBG). A NiCr wire heater is used to heat the LCFBG at a small point to introduce a narrow passband within the stop band of the LCFBG. The central wavelength of the passband is tuned by scanning the wire heater along the LCFBG. As an example demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method, we demonstrate a TOBF with a very small 3-dB bandwidth of approximately 7 pm, a tuning range of 16.4 nm, and a rejection ratio of more than 25 dB. Compared with previously reported tunable-fiber-based bandpass filters, this method provides the advantages of a large tuning range, continuous tunability, a switchable passband, a simple tuning mechanism, low cost, and narrow bandwidth.  相似文献

We demonstrate a new method to broaden and adjust the transmission bandwidth of a phase-shifted linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (PS-LCFBG) after its fabrication. A movable thermal head is used to heat the PS-LCFBG at a small contact point. The original ultra-narrow transmission bandwidth of the PS-LCFBG can be broadened due to both the presence of the passband peak caused by the thermally-induced temporary phase shift and the passband caused by the thermally-induced local Bragg wavelength shift. The transmission bandwidth of the new passband peak can be adjusted by changing the position of the thermal head. The transmission bandwidth of the PS-LCFBG can be broadened from <10 pm to 0.16 nm, and can be tuned from 0.16 to 1.05 nm.  相似文献

A novel wideband tunable linear-cavity fiber laser source using strain-induced chirped fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and erbium–ytterbium co-doped fibers is proposed and demonstrated for the first time. The strain-induced chirped FBG, which acts as a partial-reflecting mirror, is achieved by bending a uniform FBG bonded at a slant onto the lateral surface of a simply supported beam. A single wavelength lasing with a maximum wavelength tuning range of 17 nm has been achieved experimentally.  相似文献

Gain-switched distributed feedback laser diodes (GS-DFB-LD) with high repetition bit rate have large frequency chirp. Conventionally, the F–P spectrum filter and normal dispersion fiber were used to eliminate chirp in GS-DFB-LD pulse sources. In this paper, a new method for eliminating chirp of high repetition pulses generated from DFB laser diodes is proposed. The use of a linearly chirped fiber grating for chirp elimination is discussed theoretically and numerically. A new apodized coupling profile function for the grating, which we call it the inverse Gaussian, is given. Its characteristics are analyzed and compared with other profiles. The numerical results are in agreement with the theoretical analysis.  相似文献

A high channel-count comb filter based on multi-concatenated sampled chirped fiber Bragg gratings(MC-SCFBGs) is proposed and optimally designed by using several chirped gratings with different fundamental grating periods,instead of non-grating sections of SCFBGs.The numerical simulations of the reflection spectra show that the channel spacing and the channel bandwidth in MC-SCFBGs are smaller than those in multi-concatenated chirped fiber Bragg gratings(MC-CFBGs) and that the spectral bandwidth of MC-SCFBGs can be greatly broadened by increasing the cascade number of the grating sections in each sampling period.  相似文献

We propose a highly-sensitive distributed addressable liquid-droplet sensor based on an evanescent-wave linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (LCFBG). Due to liquid-droplet-induced increase of the localized effective refractive index, a transmission window is generated within the original reflection stopband of LCFBG. Utilizing the spatial encoding feature of Bragg wavelength in LCFBG and spectrum properties of the created passband, both numerical and experimental results demonstrate that the position, size, and refractive index information of multiple distributed discrete liquid-droplets can be detected simultaneously.  相似文献

A novel solution for polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensation is proposed by applying tension on a tapered high-birefringence linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating. The compensated differential group delay changes with the applied tension, for its cross-sectional area varies nonlinearly along the grating. Its performance as PMD compensator for short pulses fiber-optical transmission system and 10 Gb/s NRZ fiber-optical transmission system is demonstrated experimentally.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate a novel scheme for a multiple-element photonic microwave true-time-delay device with high tunability based on a tunable chirped fiber Bragg grating without center wavelength shift. We achieve the different true time delay by controlling the grating period of a chirped fiber Bragg grating based on the symmetrical bending technique as a multiwavelength signal source is applied to carry microwave signals. The proposed method does not require the complex structure of systems, wavelength tuning, and synchronization of optical devices such as tunable bandpass filters and optical input signals. We achieve the tunabilty of the time delay for a microwave signal carried over an optical signal in a range from 1 to 230 ps.  相似文献

We proposed and experimentally demonstrated an all-fiber structured programmable optical bandpass filter (waveshaper) based on a linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating and a digital-controlled thermal array. The key parameters of this filter such as the number of transmission channels, passing bandwidth per channel, central wavelength as well as the channel spacing can be reconfigured independently and flexibly by a program-controlled circuit. We have achieved in experiments the tunable passing bandwidth ranging from < 0.04 to 1.55 nm, adjustable central wavelength ranging from 1,547.16 to 1,558.64 nm, and a minimum wavelength spacing of 0.91 nm. The insertion loss of the whole device and the sideband rejection ratio are about 1.76 and 28 dB, respectively.  相似文献

A novel all-optical microwave bandpass filter with negative coefficients is presented. Positive and negative coefficients are obtained through conversion from phase modulation to intensity modulation by passing the phase-modulated optical carriers through chirped fiber Bragg gratings having group-delay responses with positive and negative slopes. We propose a novel lumped time-delay compensation scheme for all-optical analog-to-digital conversion based on soliton self-frequency shift and optical interconnection techniques. A linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating is optimally designed and used to compensate for the entire time-delays of the quantized pulses precisely. Simulation results show that the compensated coding pulses are well synchronized with a time difference less than 3.3 ps, which can support a maximum sampling rate of 151.52 GSa/s. The proposed scheme can efficiently reduce the structure complexity and cost of all-optical analog-to-digital conversion compared to the previous schemes with multiple optical time-delay lines.  相似文献

本文主要对拉锥型啁啾光纤光栅滤波器进行详细的理论分析和实验研究. 结合传输矩阵法, 谐振理论和耦合模理论, 深入细致地分析了啁啾光纤光栅自身参数 (光栅长度, 折射率调制幅度, 啁啾系数), 拉锥参数和锥区损耗对拉锥型啁啾光纤光栅滤波器透射谱的影响, 并研究拉锥对啁啾光纤光栅各波长反射率影响. 在此基础之上进行相应的数值仿真及实验验证, 数值仿真与实验结果基本一致. 关键词: 光栅拉锥 啁啾光栅 传输矩阵法 滤波器  相似文献

Spectral Talbot effect in full-duty-cycle sampled fiber Bragg grating is proposed and numerically demonstrated for the first time. Based on analysis and simulations, it is shown that high-performance comb filters can be realized with the proposed structure. Moreover, it is found that channel count scales linearly with the number of samples and that high-quality filtering is still available with some fabrication errors.  相似文献

A novel tunable chirped fiber Bragg grating is realized by bending a piece of D-shaped fiber Bragg grating into a specific shape like the character ‘Ω’. The principle of tuning is demonstrated by numerical simulation. The dispersion of the grating can be tuned while the center wavelength is kept nearly no shift. The experimental results match well with the numerical analysis. The influence from D-shaped fiber’s birefringence and polarization dependent loss is discussed theoretically and experimentally as well. This proposed tuning technique has potential applications in the optical communications and other fiber optics systems.  相似文献

In this paper, we demonstrate a multiwavelength Brillouin erbium fiber laser in a Fabry-Perot cavity. The design utilized a bidirectional oscillation provided by a fiber Bragg grating filter and a fiber loop mirror at each end of the laser cavity. A stable operation of 25 Brillouin-Stokes lines was obtained at around a 1559-nm band.  相似文献

Two novel multiwavelength Raman fiber lasers using a ring cavity and a linear cavity are proposed and demonstrated experimentally. Both laser configurations include a sampled chirped fiber Bragg grating used in the reflection mode. By adjusting the polarization controller (PC) in the cavities, up to ten stable lasing wavelengths with 0.8 nm spacing and equalized peak power are achieved at room temperature. It is observed that the output spectrum depends upon which port of the grating is connected to the cavity. These two fiber ring lasers offer advantages such as, stable room temperature operation, simple structure, low loss, multiwavelength lasing lines with moderate output power. A novel and simple design technique for triangular spectrum response of fibre Bragg grating (FBG) is presented based on a linear chirped grating. It is shown that this method is fast and can give a straightforward solution to meet a design target. The numerical simulation examples verified the effectiveness of the design method. A general approach to design for multichannel triangular spectral responses for FBG filters is proposed, which provides a solution that achieves a minimum change of refractive index for the fibre.  相似文献
