The diffraction efficiency of M holograms superimposed in the volume of the recording medium is proportional to 1/M(2). We present a method, based on nondestructive localized holograms in a doubly doped LiNbO(3) crystal, that allows us to also record M holograms in the same volume without an exposure schedule or a diffraction efficiency that has 1/M dependence. We compare experimentally the final diffraction efficiency obtained with the localized and distributed recording methods.  相似文献

The generation of dynamic holograms and four-wave phase conjugation in resonant media has been investigated under conditions of interaction between radiation and excited singlet and triplet states. Two mechanisms of optical control of resonant media non-linearities using independent pump-up to increase the diffraction efficiency of dynamic holograms have been considered. The peculiarities of non-linear recording of holograms, and a variant of quadratic recording, have been investigated. The dependence of the efficiency of diffraction by dynamic holograms on the intensity of interacting waves and the spectroscopic characteristics of the medium has been analysed.  相似文献

Bacteriorhodopsin (bR) is a reversible photochromic protein that can be used as a holographic medium. The dichroic absorption of the bR molecule is polarization dependent, thereby allowing for the recording of polarization holograms. The properties of polarization holograms can be used to multiplex two independent images in a single bR film. A new technique and associated polarization-multiplexing scheme are demonstrated that allow for simultaneous readout of two orthogonally polarized images while achieving a high normalized diffraction efficiency for each of the individual images.  相似文献

In this paper we give an exact solution of the coupled differential equation system as developed by Kogelnik [1] for the case of symmetrical recording without neglecting the second differentials. This generalized solution is applicable to dielectric, absorption and so-called mixed volume holograms. It is shown that under special assumptions and approximations we get the same equations for the diffraction efficiency as derived by Kogelnik. In this first part of the paper transmission holograms are only investigated and in the second part we will give the solution for reflection holograms.  相似文献

The results of a complex investigation of the recording of dynamic holograms by pulsed radiation with a duration of 20 ns and 300 ps in fullerene-containing media based on porous glasses and polymethyl methacrylate matrices are reported. Spectral analysis of these media in the range 300–700 nm was performed. The efficiency of hologram recording was found to relate with the occurrence of a band at 330 nm in the absorption spectrum of a medium. It is shown that dynamic holograms can be recorded in the fullerene-containing media by nanosecond and picosecond pulses. In the latter case, holograms arise mainly due to a change in the electronic polarizability of fullerene molecules, which is almost inertialess. The results obtained can be used in the development of ultrafast switching devices based on dynamic holograms.  相似文献

We have performed hologram multiplexing with a cw laser at lambda=532 nm in a near-stoichiometric LiNbO(3) :Tb, Fe crystal that exhibits a visible absorption band induced by UV light. When 50 plane-wave holograms were angle multiplexed from the UV preexposed state, the recording sensitivity gradually decreased, owing to bleaching of the induced absorption. However, a conventional recording schedule of multiplexing many holograms of equal diffraction efficiency can be used in this photochromic material. The gradual decrease in recording sensitivity throughout multiplexing can be compensated for by the increased erasure-time constants of later-written holograms. An M/# of 1.73 was obtained in a crystal of 3.3-mm thickness.  相似文献

In contrast to previous models diffraction efficiencies of evanescent-wave holograms are calculated within the framework of a slab model that takes into account the finite thickness of the recording medium. This modification leads to characteristic diffraction efficiency oscillations with respect to reconstruction angle and medium thickness as well. One obtains higher diffraction efficiency maxima and pseudo-optical tunnelling. The analysis covers TE-polarized fields.  相似文献

The conditions for preparing photochromic CaF2 crystals, recording holograms with 532-nm radiation in them, and postexposure photothermal treatment of samples with holograms that provide the formation of holographic elements of significant thickness (about 1 cm) are considered. It is shown that the diffraction efficiency of volume holograms in such crystals in the case of reading out by radiation with wave-lengths of 532 and 632.8 nm can be as high as 10–15%. The role of the recording mechanism and the Borrmann effect in the fabrication of these holograms is demonstrated.  相似文献

The use of a photochrome as spectral sensitizer for refractive index variation by photopolymerization of acrylamide has made possible the recording of high efficiency phase holograms due to the lack of absorption in the recording medium. Bacteriorhodopsin (BR) in its metastable form was used for pulsed holographic recording at lambda~400nm . It is shown that the properties of BR are insensitive to changes in the writing light's pulse width. When holograms are recorded in the BR stable form (lambda~600 nm) , the sensitivity of the medium and the diffraction efficiency of those holograms are reduced proportionally to the decrease in the light's pulse width.  相似文献

The photochromic bacteriorhodopsin (BR) film can be used as a rewritable holographic recording medium. Due to the saturation absorption and the scattering and reflecting lights from the BR film, the grating contrast-ratio of the hologram is diminished during the hologram recording. When the intensity of the recording light is low, the influence of the saturation absorption and the scatter and reflection of BR film on the grating contrast-ratio is weak. But for the case of intense recording light, this influence is more serious. It is found that the influence of the auxiliary violet light on the holographic kinetics of diffraction efficiency is distinct under different recording intensities. At the low recording light intensity, the steady diffraction efficiency is increased and the peak diffraction efficiency is suppressed by the auxiliary violet light. But for intense recording light, the steady diffraction efficiency and the peak diffraction efficiency are both increased by the auxiliary violet light. Based on the two-state model of BR photochromism, we give a good theoretical explanation to the above phenomena.  相似文献

Polarization volume holograms are recorded in the polymethylmethacrylate layers that contain phenanthrenequinone at a molar content of 2.5–3%. The effect of the polarization of recording beams on the kinetics of diffraction efficiency and properties of holograms is analyzed. Polarization hologram recording in the polymethylmethacrylate layers with phenanthrenequinone and a relatively high optical stability of the holograms are demonstrated.  相似文献

Diffraction efficiency as a function of the applied electric field for the non-linear regime has been calculated by solving numerically the beam coupling equations. The refractive index variation used in the beam coupling equations was calculated directly from the material rate equations via the total space charge field. The diffraction efficiency of the holograms recorded in photorefractive media is not only a function of the applied external electric field but also a function of crystal thickness, diffusion field, reduced fringe contrast modulation ratio and absorption coefficient of the materials. The effects of these parameters on the efficiency of the holograms have been studied in details. In the absence of the external applied field, it is found that the diffraction efficiency of the holograms could be maximized for a thinner photorefractive crystal having lower absorption coefficient and higher value of diffusion field, which could exist at a much lower value of reduced fringe contrast modulation ratio of the index grating. More efficient holograms can be recorded in the presence of the externally applied electric field as compared to the case of no external field.  相似文献

Effects of recording wavelength on the recently proposed (Sasaki, 2008) three-dimensional vector holograms, in which the optical anisotropy is three-dimensionally modulated, are presented experimentally and theoretically. The polarization states of the interference light are three-dimensionally modulated due to both the polarization interference and optical anisotropy in the recording medium. These spatial distributions of the polarization states and the resulting diffraction properties in the three-dimensional vector holograms are strongly dependent on the recording wavelength. Theoretical consideration based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method reveals the mechanism of the optical characteristics of the three-dimensional vector holograms recorded by various kinds of light sources with different wavelengths.  相似文献

The dependences of the characteristics of volume holograms recorded in additively colored crystals of potassium chloride on the spatial frequency and the recording temperature are studied. It is found that these dependences are nonmonotonic, which indicates the presence of nonlocal mechanisms of holographic recording in the crystals. These mechanisms involve diffusion and drift processes of redistribution of color centers between the nodes and antinodes of a recorded interference pattern. The results obtained are used to determine the recording conditions providing the maximum possible diffraction efficiency of the holograms.  相似文献
