Summary The paper summarizes the work done by the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, Warsaw (INCT), in the field of QA/QC with the special emphasis on the role of NAA. This work consists of preparation and certification of CRMs, development of high-accuracy RNAA methods for selected elements in biological matrices and organization of proficiency test rounds (PT). The INCT has been involved in the preparation and certification of CRMs for inorganic trace analysis since 1986. The adopted certification philosophy is presented. Comparison of analytical data on the same material available from interlaboratory comparisons organized in different years is presented. The paper summarizes also the work on the development of high-accuracy RNAA methods. It has been demonstrated that the high-accuracy RNAA methods devised according the concept formulated in INCT can meet requirements of primary ratio method of measurement (PMM).  相似文献

 The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) recently prepared two candidate certified reference materials (CRMs) for arsenicals to meet the growing demand for the quality assurance of arsenic speciation analysis. The NIES candidate CRM No. 14 Brown Alga was prepared from Hijiki seaweed for the certification of inorganic arsenic content, and No. 15 Scallop was prepared from adductor muscle of scallop for the certification of arsenobetaine content. The preparation of the candidate CRMs is briefly described. Cooperative analyses for total arsenic content of the candidate CRMs have been underway. The preliminary speciation analysis at NIES revealed difficulty in establishing suitable conditions for extracting arsenic species from the materials. Chromatograms of arsenic species by a high performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometric detection system are presented to provide information about arsenic species present in these candidate CRMs.  相似文献

Matrix certified reference materials (CRMs) are playing an increasingly important role in environmental monitoring in Japan. The National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ)/National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has been developing matrix CRMs for environmental monitoring since 2001, and has issued nine kinds of CRMs as NMIJ CRMs. The development of the CRMs was conducted in NMIJ in cooperation with candidate material producers. The isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) was principally adopted to give reliable certified values. Meanwhile, two or more analytical methods, whose levels of accuracy were well evaluated, were applied to avoid any possible analytical bias. Two typical certification processes, the certification of river water CRMs for trace element analysis and that of marine sediment CRMs for PCB and organochlorine pesticide analysis, are outlined as examples. One of the major prerequisites for the certification of various analytes in different Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) is that the analytical methods used are of verified performance and, hence, that no systematic errors have been left undetected. In the case of difficult measurements, research and feasibility studies are often necessary to ensure that the methods are operating under good quality control. The EC Standards Measurements and Testing Programme (SMT, formerly BCR) usually follows a step-by-step approach which consists in series of interlaboratory studies to assess and improve the quality of measurements prior to certification by comparing different analytical techniques. A programme following such stepwise approach has started in 1987 with the aim of improving the quality of butyltin determinations in environmental matrices. The project involved ca. 20 laboratories from different Member States of the European Union. The first interlaboratory study dealt with simple solutions containing mixtures of organotin compounds and a second exercise focused on the analysis of a tributyltin-spiked sediment. These exercises were continued by two certifications on butyltins in sediment, the first of which could not be successfully concluded owing to the high spread of results observed between the results of different techniques. The second certification allowed a CRM certified for its contents of di- and tributyltin (CRM 462) to be produced. This programme on Sn speciation is now focusing on the certification of butyltin and phenyltin compounds in candidate CRMs of mussel and sediment. This paper gives an account of the step-by-step approach followed and presents the results of the two certification exercises carried out so far. Purity certified reference materials (CRMs) are playing a key role in metrological traceability, because they form the basis for many traceability chains in chemistry. Recently, the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ) has developed two purity CRMs for creatinine (NMIJ CRM 6005-a) and urea (NMIJ CRM 6006-a), because the concentrations of these two compounds are frequently measured in clinical laboratories for monitoring the renal functions. In the certification of purity CRMs, it is essential that the materials have been thoroughly characterized for purity, and the purity should preferably be determined directly by a primary method of measurements. In the development of these two CRMs, we used the purified materials as candidates. The certified values were assigned based on the results of two different methods; acidimetric titration and nitrogen determination by the Kjeldahl method. Since both methods cannot distinguish some impurities from the target compounds, major impurities in the candidate materials were also identified, quantified, and subtracted. These CRMs can provide a traceability link between routine clinical methods and SI units. Presented at BERM-11, October 2007, Tsukuba, Japan.  相似文献

Differences between particle size measurements of CRMs by various methods are discussed and the importance of the reliability of such data for proper estimation of the homogeneity of the material is emphasized. On the basis of a very simple model, the dependence of the Ingamells' sampling constant on the average mass of a single particle of the material is derived, and theoretical predictions are compared with the experimental results. Various approaches to the certification of the candidate RMs are briefly reviewed. The merits of the approach being used in this laboratory to evaluate data obtained in the interlaboratory comparison, and to assign certified and information values, is discussed. The conclusions are supported by results obtained for selected trace elements by use of "definitive" (primary) and "very accurate" methods. Some observations on the unusual resistance of some biological materials to wet ashing and the resulting possibility of making analytical errors are mentioned.  相似文献

Certifications of trace elements in existing CRMs, especially biological CRMs, are far from satisfactory. Neutron activation analysis (NAA) for its inherent advantages combined with newly established parametric standardization, may contribute to improve this situation. The continuing progress of the hybrid extended k 0-relative NAA technique developed in our laboratory is discussed. Examples are given to show the reliability of the method in certification of multielements. RNAA is still one of the best methods, or even the method of choice, in analysis at sub-g/g concentration levels. The suitability of the technique for this purpose has been studied through the determination of rare earth elements at ng/g concentration level in two Chinese biological CRMs using both RNAA and ICPMS. Sampling behaviors of multielements in CRMs have been studied by INAA in an effort to develop CRMs suitable for analysis with small sample sizes.  相似文献

Two reference materials, at relatively low and high concentrations (GBW08404 and GBW08405), for analysis of the mass fractions of Cd, Cr, Hg and Pb in polypropylene were developed. The reference materials were prepared by doping blank polypropylene base material with Cd, Cr, Hg and Pb in the form of oxides, salts or pigments. Homogeneity and stability studies were performed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The certification of the four analytes was carried out by isotope-dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) with microwave-assisted digestion. Combined uncertainties were calculated from the IDMS uncertainty evaluation budget and the uncertainty of the homogeneity. The mass fractions of Cd, Cr, Hg and Pb of the two certified reference materials (CRMs) were from 8 to 1,000 mg kg−1. The two samples were also used in an interlaboratory comparison scheme in which National Institute of Metrology, China, National Metrological Institute of Japan and Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science participated. The agreement of the comparison results proved that the certification procedure of the CRMs is valid and that the certified values of Cd, Cr, Hg and Pb are accurate and reliable.  相似文献

Summary The Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) has undertaken the development of a range of reference materials designed to meet the principal needs for food analysis and measurement. This work falls within the scope of a general collaborative programme designed to improve measurement accuracy and comparability within Europe.The development of well characterised food reference materials frequently poses serious difficulties, not only with respect to stability and homogeneity, but also for accurate certification. A pre-requisite for accurate certification is a high level of agreement between the collaborating laboratories, preferably when employing methods based on different principles.Especially for trace organic analysis, it is necessary to carry-out preliminary intercomparisons of candidate certification methods in order to identify and eliminate the major sources of error. This process is greatly facilitated if the critical steps such as recovery, clean-up and final determination can be studied separately. The paper describes this approach by reference to three milk-powders which were recently certified for their aflatoxin M1 content and presents results for bovine muscle, bovine liver and pig kidney CRMs recently certified for toxic and nutritional element.  相似文献

A series of reference materials intended for use as activation or fission monitors for neutron fluence rate measurements has been prepared by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. Certification has been carried out by expert European laboratories and distribution of the certified reference materials (CRMs) is through the BCR programme of the Commission. The list (18 CRMs) includes materials to cover the complete energy spectrum, and suitable for different irradiation times. Fission monitors are 238UO2 or 237NpO2 in the form of microspheres. Activation monitors are high purity metals (Ni, Cu, Al, Fe, Nb, Rh, or Ti), certified for interfering trace impurities, or dilute aluminium-based alloys, where aluminium is chosen as a suitable matrix for reducing the neutron self-shielding effect. Newly certified materials are IRMM-530R Al-0.1%Au, replacing the exhausted IRMM-530 material, used as comparator for k 0-standardization, and three new Al-Co alloys (0.01-1%Co). Two others, in the process of certification are Al-0.1%Ag and Al-2%Sc for thermal and epithermal fluence rate measurements. Other candidate reference materials currently being certified are two uranium-doped glass intended for dosimetry by the fission-track technique.  相似文献

Organotin compounds are currently determined in various environmental matrices (in particular water, sediment and shellfish) to form the basis of control measures for the levels of contamination, as required in some EC Directives. Accurate measurements are a prerequisite for the enforcement of this legislation, which implies that good quality control of determinations should be ensured. One of the tools for achieving accuracy is to use certified reference materials (CRMs). With regard to tin species, however, CRMs are rather scarce and mainly concern sediment and fish matrices certified for their butyltin content. The present study deals with the preparation of a mussel candidate reference material and the verification of its homogeneity prior to the certification of the contents of butyl- and phenyl-tin compounds. 100kg of mussels (Mytilus edulis) were collected, carefully washed with fresh water in order to eliminate matrix salts and immediately frozen by immersion in liquid nitrogen. The mussels were shelled (in the frozen state) and the edible part was stored in thermally sealed polyethylene bags which were stored at –25 °C. The frozen material was ground in a Teflon-coated grinding mill, spread on sterilized flat trays and freeze-dried. The freeze-dried material was then ground for 15 days in a zirconia ball mill and sieved on a titanium sieve to separate the fibrous part. Successively, the material was mixed for 15 days under argon atmosphere in a special polyethylene-lined mixing drum and bottled in brown Pyrex-glass bottles. 21 bottles were selected during the course of the bottling procedure to verify the within- and between-bottle homogeneity of the overall batch. The within-bottle homogeneity was verified by determining the organotin (butyl- and phenyltins) content for subsamples of 500 mg in ten replicates from one bottle, whereas the between-bottle homogeneity was controlled by one organotin measurement from each of 20 bottles. The analyses were performed by GC-MS. The results showed that the homogeneity of the material makes it suitable as a candidate reference material.  相似文献

IAEA and NBS biological certified reference materials have been analyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis and concentration of 17 elements was determined. The elements determined were either completely missing or their certified values were not given in the original compilations. For quality assurance of our work, a comparison of data on missing trace elements in some of the CRMs has been presented. It seems that second round of analysis for the certification of these elements would be useful.  相似文献

The Chemical Section of OHM [1–2] embarked on the preparation of a wheat sample series as CRMs in 1992. The certification process has been carried out according to the recommendations of ISO. Based on a standard test method for purity by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), ASTM E 928, a purity determination method for highly pure polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) has been developed and validated. The robustness of the developed method was investigated by determining, under varying measurement conditions, the purity of two PAH certified reference materials (CRMs), benzo[c]phenanthrene and dibenzo[a,h]anthracene. The repeatability and intermediate precision of the developed method was determined by analysing the purity of benzo[c]phenanthrene and dibenzo[a,h]anthracene and PAH candidate CRMs indeno[1,2,3-c,d]pyrene, 6-methylchrysene and benzo[a]pyrene. The trueness of the method was studied using the same (candidate) CRMs and a series of 42 other PAH CRMs. For each of the five (candidate) CRMs, a full measurement uncertainty budget was developed. Also for PAH materials for which the DSC purity determination method has not been explicitly validated, the relative expanded measurement uncertainty was estimated.  相似文献

But, even today there are no agreements on procedures for evaluating results obtained by the users. As a consequence, the way CRM results are treated in the literature leaves a lot to be desired. A statistical evaluation is rarely, if ever, described in published reports. The most common approach is to compare the found mean and/or range with the certified range and then state if the mean falls within the certified range, or if the two ranges overlap. If this happens, the analyst is usually satisfied. In addition, usually no regard is paid to the fact that the certified interval is based on a 95% confidence interval (CI) and the found interval on standard deviation and that this evaluation has little, if any, statistical relevance. Long-term evaluation of a CRM often consists in nothing more than producing a control chart, which relates the found results to the certified mean and CI. This paper is an attempt to improve the situation by providing a set of easy-to-use guidelines for evaluating results from CRMs. During the process we have identified different areas in which there is a need for such guidelines: 1. short-term evaluation of a single, or multiple, determination at one or several specific times; 2. identification of systematic and random errors; 3. evaluation of CRMs when used in a collaborative trial of a method; and 4. long-term evaluation for monitoring an analytical process over extended periods of time. It is important that the guidelines do not require expert competence in statistics from the analyst. Such obstacles would probably render most guidelines unused.  相似文献

Abstract

The lack of uniformity in leaching procedures used to measure broadly defined forms of heavy metals does not allow the results to be compared world-wide nor the methods to be validated since the results obtained are “operationally defined”. An attempt was made to certify several mineral soils CRMs for single extraction by using acetic acid, EDTA and DTPA for Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn. Recently, to complete the series of soil CRMs, an organically enriched soil was prepared SO25. For sediments a CRM 601 was produced and certified for metals extractable by using the BCR three step sequential extraction. Not all the trace elements were certified and only indicative values were given for some of them due to poor reproducibility. We performed a systematic study of the effect of the variables identified as potential sources of uncertainty in the use of this scheme. With this study the sources of uncertainty were revealed and an optimised version of the protocol was proposed. With this new version it was possible to certify all the trace elements studied. New sediment material S33 is now proposed for certification and additional data are given for the sediment CRM 601. This modified procedure was also applied to a soil CRM 483 and good results were obtained. This procedure may thus be applied to polluted soils.  相似文献
