We analyze the storage and retrieval of a weak light pulse, having two orthogonally (circularly) polarized components, onto an atomic ensemble of four-level atoms of the tripod type driven by a far detuned coupling field. The atoms are subject to a longitudinal magnetic field which produces a spatially varying Zeeman splitting of the lower levels along the medium and allows for a spatial encoding of the different angular frequencies of the input pulse during the storage phase. A single reversion of the external magnetic field results in a rephasing of the dipoles and leads to the release of the stored signals. The shape of the recovered pulse is a time-reversal copy of the input pulse. The application of an additional reversion of the magnetic field during the storage phase allows the release of a copy of the input pulse without time reversal. We also show that the system may operate like an all-optical multiplexer when considering two impinging optical fields which have orthogonal components. The proposal has potential applications in quantum information processing.  相似文献

The general nonlinear stationary theory of propagation of an elliptically polarized pulse that resonantly interacts with the 1/2-1/2 transition is developed taking into account relaxation processes. It is shown that interference of magnetic sublevels in the field of polarized radiation that optically pumps atoms results in inversionless amplification of radiation. Taking into account the Doppler broadening of spectral lines shows that there exists a certain optimal length of the resonant medium along which the radiation that emerges from the medium is maximally amplified.  相似文献

The coherent repopulation of a quantum system consisting of three nonequidistant levels in the field of a resonant bichromatic rf wave is studied. The atoms are assumed to have an impulsive interaction with the rf wave in which the pulse duration is less than any of the relaxation times. The hyperfine structure of gas atoms and a system of atomic oscillator levels in a magnetic trap are considered as examples of such a quantum system. We study nonlinear optical behaviors in pulse propagation through a medium consisting of four-level cascade-type cold atoms, where a radio-frequency (RF) field couples upper two-folded levels and double-dark resonances (DDRs) can arise. By numerically solving the coupled Bloch-Maxwell equations for atom and field simultaneously in space and time, we demonstrate dynamic control of light propagation and optical switching in such a four-level atomic medium. The proposed scheme may have potential applications in the design of optical switching and optical storage devices.  相似文献

Rotation of polarization plane of a probe signal under influence of a time-advanced intense pulse is investigated taking into account optical pumping of atoms in a resonant medium. A formula is derived for the angle of rotation of polarization plane of the probe signal. It follows from this formula that modification of the polarization plane is caused by two processes: radiative decay of atoms and collision-induced redistribution of atoms over magnetic sublevels. It is shown that this method enables direct measuring long times of atomic collisions on the background of short times of the radiation decay.  相似文献

Two methods of absorption imaging to detect cold atoms in a magnetic trap are implemented for a high-precision cold atom interferometer.In the first method,a probe laser which is in resonance with a cycle transition frequency is used to evaluate the quantity and distribution of the atom sample.In the second method,the probe laser is tuned to an open transition frequency,which stimulates a few and constant number of photons per atom.This method has a shorter interaction time and results in absorption images which are not affected by the magnetic field and the light field.We make a comparison of performance between these two imaging methods in the sense of parameters such as pulse duration,light intensity,and magnetic field strength.The experimental results show that the second method is more reliable when detecting the quantity and density profiles of the atoms.These results fit well to the theoretical analysis.  相似文献

We theoretically examine the storage and retrieval of a light pulse in a medium comprised of four-level atoms of the V − Λ-type. The two intermediate levels are probed by a weak field and vacuum-induced coherence effects lead the system to transparency. The temporal variation of the intermediate levels' splitting is used as an external parameter which allows the transfer of the impinging field to a combination of spin coherences. An auxiliary and far-detuned control field in a standing-wave configuration is used to induce a variable photonic bandgap by cross-phase modulation. It is shown that dynamic control of such a bandgap can be used to coherently manipulate the previously stored probe pulse. We use a general scheme to take into account multiwave mixing effects and solve the combined Maxwell-Bloch equations for the relevant coherences. It is shown that the system acts as an all-optical router.  相似文献

Abilities of the method of accumulation of coherent unstable response of a medium for amplification of the rotated component of the probe wave’s polarization in the atomic medium of three-level atoms are studied. Probe wave is examined in frames of the perturbation theory and its frequency is considered near to one photon resonance from the ground to the first excited level. The intense monochromatic pump field connects two excited energy levels and propagates through the medium without a change. The broadening of spectral lines caused by the relaxation processes and the Doppler broadening are included into the calculations. It is shown that by multiple consistent instantaneous change of input probe field’s phase from 0 to π and back, it is possible to obtain, in the tail part of the rotated component of the probe field, a separate narrowed light pulse along with the increase in intensity by more than an order of magnitude with respect to the input field.  相似文献

The ionisation of Rydberg helium atoms in an electric field above the classical ionisation threshold has been examined using the semiclassical method, with particular emphasis on discussing the influence of the core scattering on the escape dynamics of electrons. The results show that the Rydberg helium atoms ionise by emitting a train of electron pulses. Unlike the case of the ionisation of Rydberg hydrogen atom in parallel electric and magnetic fields, where the pulses of the electron are caused by the external magnetic field, the pulse trains for Rydberg helium atoms are created through core scattering. Each peak in the ionisation rate corresponds to the contribution of one core-scattered combination trajectory. This fact further illustrates that the ionic core scattering leads to the chaotic property of the Rydberg helium atom in external fields. Our studies provide a simple explanation for the escape dynamics in the ionisation of nonhydrogenic atoms in external fields.  相似文献

We study the influence of shaping the phase of the optical field when time-delayed femtosecond pulse pairs excite a sequential two-photon transition in rubidium atoms. Propagation through this optically dense medium modifies the pulse profile. When an external phase is introduced into one of the pulses, partial cancellation of the two-photon absorption signal is observed for temporal delays much greater than the pulse duration. This behavior is qualitatively explained in terms of a negative group delay.  相似文献

Maxwell equations describing an extremely short pulse propagating in impurity carbon nanotubes placed in a dispersive nonmagnetic medium are analyzed with allowance for the nonlinearity of the medium. By using a semiclassical method, we present theoretical computations of the ionization rate of Rydberg lithium atoms in parallel electric and magnetic fields with different scaled energies above the classical saddle point. The yielded irregular pulse trains of the escape electrons are recorded as a function of emission time, which allows for relating themselves to the terms of the recurrence periods of the photoabsorption. This fact turns to illustrate the dynamic mechanism how the electron pulses are stochastically generated. Comparing our computations with previous investigation results, we can deduce that the complicated chaos under consideration here consists of two kinds of seff-similar fractal structures which correspond to the contributions of the applied magnetic feld and the core scattering events. Furthermore, the effect of the magnetic field plays a major role in the profile of the autoionization rate curves, while the contribution of the core scattering is critical for specifying the positions of the pulse peaks.  相似文献

研究一个具有两个靠得足够近激发能级的双Lambda模型, 在矩形脉冲中分离出光学前驱动场. 当耦合场是大失谐时, 该原子系统在自发辐射相干效应的影响下产生一个透明窗口并伴随着陡峭的色散曲线. 因此, 由于透明窗口中的慢光效应可以使光学前驱动场从主脉冲场中分离出来. 另外, 我们通过调控脉冲波形序列研究探测场相位和幅值的累积光学前驱动波. 数值结果表明: 由于累积光前驱动场与脉冲主场的相长干涉大大地提高瞬态脉冲的能量.  相似文献

With laser-cooled cold 87Rb atoms as a magneto-optical medium, a weak right circularly polarized probe field and frequency modulation technique are used to detect the magnetic distribution of the quadrupole field. A two-peak dispersion-like signal other than that of the usual nonlinear magneto-optical effect mentioned in other papers is obtained.  相似文献

Interaction between the thermal fluctuation electromagnetic field of a condensed medium and a weak external factor, say, a weak effective magnetic field including an external magnetic field, rigid rotation of the medium, and Coriolis force, imparts a torque to any charged free or bound particles (atoms, molecules, etc.). which indicates that the medium is sensitive to weak actions. The torque is proportional to thermal energy kT and may increase substantially under the cyclotron resonance conditions. The so-called kT problem is solved, so that many observations having to do with the field of physics that can be called the physics of weak actions (?kT) can now be theoretically explained.  相似文献

分析了电磁波以任意角度入射到有限磁场中的激光等离子体通道天线(LPCA)时的电磁散射特性。根据LPCA的工作原理建立了其电磁分析模型,推导出广义柱坐标系下各向异性磁化等离子体中纵向分量所满足的波动方程和纵向场与横向场的关系,得到LPCA和周围媒质中的电磁场,利用边界切向电磁场连续,得出了散射系数方程。通过计算实例,将结果与文献结果比较,吻合较好。该研究结果预期可应用于高功率微波武器系统的研究。  相似文献

分析了有限磁场中激光等离子体通道周围为有耗气体介质时激光引导电磁脉冲传播的一般模式的传播特性,建立了有限磁场中激光等离子体通道引导电磁脉冲的几何模型,导出了广义柱坐标系下各向异性介质中纵向场所满足的波动方程及纵向场与横向场的关系。利用边界条件给出了有限磁场中激光引导电磁脉冲传播模式的严格特征方程,重点讨论了传播常数随等离子体参数、周围介质参数和外加磁场的变化。结果表明,有限磁场中激光引导电磁脉冲的传播特性比无磁场或外加无穷大磁场时更具有可控性。  相似文献

We propose a photon echo quantum memory scheme using detuned Raman coupling to long-lived ground states. In contrast to previous three-level schemes based on controlled reversible inhomogeneous broadening that use sequences of pi pulses, the scheme does not require accurate control of the coupling dynamics to the ground states. We present a proof-of-principle experimental realization of our proposal using rubidium atoms in a warm vapor cell. The Raman resonance line is broadened using a magnetic field that varies linearly along the direction of light propagation. Inverting the magnetic field gradient rephases the atomic dipoles and re-emits the light pulse in the forward direction.  相似文献

The goal of this work is to derive the angular distributions of electrons irradiated at the outer ionization of large atomic clusters from Xe atoms by relativistic laser pulses taking into account rescattering processes. Both the magnetic field of the laser pulse and the Coulomb field of the ionized cluster significantly influence the rescattering of ejected electrons. The multiply inner ionization of atoms occurs at the leading edge of the laser pulse. The atomic ions with charge multiplicities up to Z = 26 are subsequently produced (each atomic ion with the next charge multiplicity appears in 3–5 fs) when the laser intensity increases. The measurements of the angular distributions of electrons allow us to reproduce the imaging dynamics of outer ionization of the cluster at the leading edge of the relativistic femtosecond laser pulse.  相似文献
