In this article, we extensively develop Carleman estimates for the wave equation and give some applications. We focus on the case of an observation of the flux on a part of the boundary satisfying the Gamma conditions of Lions. We will then consider two applications. The first one deals with the exact controllability problem for the wave equation with potential. Following the duality method proposed by Fursikov and Imanuvilov in the context of parabolic equations, we propose a constructive method to derive controls that weakly depend on the potentials. The second application concerns an inverse problem for the waves that consists in recovering an unknown time-independent potential from a single measurement of the flux. In that context, our approach does not yield any new stability result, but proposes a constructive algorithm to rebuild the potential. In both cases, the main idea is to introduce weighted functionals that contain the Carleman weights and then to take advantage of the freedom on the Carleman parameters to limit the influences of the potentials.  相似文献

We prove Gaussian upper bounds for kernels associated with non – symmetric, non – autonomous second order parabolic operators of divergence form subject to various boundary conditions. The growth of the kernel in time is determined by theboundary conditions and the geometric properties of the domain. The theory gives a unified treatment for Dirichlet, Neumann and Robin boundary conditions, and the existence of a Gaussian type bound is essentially reduced to verifying some properties of the Hilbert space in the weak formulation of the problem.  相似文献

In the space of variables (x, t) ∈ ? n+1, we consider a linear second-order hyperbolic equation with coefficients depending only on x. Given a domain D ? ? n+1 whose projection to the x-space is a compact domain Ω, we consider the question of construction of a stability estimate for a solution to the Cauchy problem with data on the lateral boundary S of D. The well-known method for obtaining such estimates bases on the Carleman estimates with an exponential-type weight function exp(2τ?(x, t)) whose construction faces certain difficulties in case of hyperbolic equations with variable coefficients. We demonstrate that if D is symmetric with respect to the plane t = 0 then we can take ?(x, t) to be the function ?(x, t) = s 2(x, x 0) ? pt 2, where s(x, x 0) is the distance between points x and x 0 in the Riemannian metric induced by the differential equation, p is some positive number less than 1, and the fixed point x 0 can either belong to the domain Ω or lie beyond it. As for the metric, we suppose that the sectional curvature of the corresponding Riemannian space is bounded above by some number k 0 ≥ 0. In case of space of nonpositive curvature the parameter p can be taken arbitrarily close to 1; in this case as p → 1 the stability estimates lead to a uniqueness theorem which describes exactly the domain of the solution continuation through S. It turns out that, in case of space of bounded positive curvature, construction of a Carleman estimate is possible only if the product of k 0 and sup x∈Ω s 2(x, x 0) satisfies some smallness condition.  相似文献

Abstract

We study linear stochastic partial differential equations of parabolic type with special boundary conditions in time. The standard Cauchy condition at the initial time is replaced by a condition that mixes the values of the solution at different times, including the terminal time and continuously distributed times. We derive global Carleman estimates for one-dimensional linear parabolic equations t±x(cx) with a coefficient of bounded variations. These estimates are obtained by approximating c by piecewise constant coefficients, cε, and passing to the limit in the Carleman estimates associated to the operators defined with cε. Such estimates yields observability inequalities for the considered linear parabolic equation, which, in turn, yield controllability results for classes of semilinear equations.  相似文献

We establish a regularity property for the solutions to the quasilinear parabolicinitial-boundary value problem (1.4) below, showing that for t > 0 they belong to the same space to which the solutions of the second order hyperbolic problem (1.5), which is a singular perturbation of (1.4), belong. We study the observability and some of its consequences (controllability, identification of diffusion coefficients) for one-dimensional heat equations with discontinuous coefficients (piecewise C1). The observability, for a linear equation, is obtained by a Carleman-type estimate. This kind of observability inequality yields controllability results for a semi-linear equation as well as a stability result for the identification of the diffusion coefficient.  相似文献
