Gamma ray bursts (GRBs) have been proposed as one possible class of sources of the ultrahigh energy cosmic ray (UHECR) events observed up to energies ≳ 1020 eV. The synchrotron radiation of the highest energy protons accelerated within the GRB source should produce gamma rays up to TeV energies. Here we briefly discuss the implications on the energetics of the GRB from the point of view of the detectability of the prompt TeV γ-rays of proton-synchrotron origin in GRBs in the up-coming ICECUBE muon detector in the south pole.  相似文献

采用蒙特卡罗程序MCNP计算了γ射线在LSO晶体中的能量沉积分布并与相应的实验结果进行了对比,验证了该方法的正确性。在此基础上计算了不同能量的γ射线在LSO晶体中的能量沉积分布,分析了γ射线与物质的不同作用对晶体中能量沉积分布的影响,总结出在晶体轴向和径向的能量沉积分布规律。轴向上,不同能量γ射线在LSO晶体中的能量沉积近似为指数分布,在表面能量沉积密度较小;在径向方向,γ射线在入射轴线上能量沉积密度很高,在距入射轴较近的区域,主要是次级电子产生沉积能量,随着距离的增大,γ射线能量沉积逐渐减小;在距入射轴较远的区域,能量沉积主要是散射γ射线产生。  相似文献

Radiation hardened CC4007RH and non-radiation hardened CC4011 devices were irradiated using 80Co gamma rays, 1 MeV electrons and 1--9 MeV protons to compare the ionizing radiation damage of the gamma rays with the charged particles. For all devices examined, with experimental uncertainty, the radiation induced threshold voltage shifts (△Vth) generated by 60Co gamma rays are equal to that of 1 MeV electron and 1-7 MeV proton radiation under 0 gate bias condition. Under 5 V gate bias condition, the distinction of threshold voltage shifts (△Vth) generated by 60Co gamma rays and 1 MeV electrons irradiation are not large, and the radiation damage for protons below 9 MeV is always less than that of 60Co gamma rays. The lower energy the proton has, the less serious the radiation damage becomes.  相似文献

We describe the photoproduction interactions of ultrahigh energy protons on the universal photon backgrounds and the production of very high-energy neutrinos and γ-rays in such interactions. We compare the production in propagation in the microwave background to that in the extragalactic background light. The propagation of heavy nuclei is discussed only briefly. We show the extreme models for cosmogenic neutrino production and the limits set on them by different experiments.  相似文献

This paper presents the energy spectra of secondary neutrons obtained from Monte Carlo simulations of the interactions of protons of galactic cosmic rays with the material of a spacecraft, and also the variation of the fluxes of these particles as a function of latitude. The variations of the secondary neutron flux with changing geometry and orientation of the craft, and detector position were evaluated as well. The simulations were conducted over a wide range of masses of spacecraft, from 300 kg (Earth Probe Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer) to 420,000 kg (International Space Station in its full configuration), with calculations for the ISS also being carried out for its first development stage (mass of approx. 20,400 kg) and its configuration with a mass of approx. 81,000 kg. The calculations were carried out for circular orbits at altitudes of 500 km and for the energy intervals 0.001–10 MeV and 10–10,000 MeV, for both maximum and minimum solar activity. The results obtained agree reasonably well with results from previous calculations and do not contradict experimental data.  相似文献

A large stack of lead-emulsion sandwich detector assembly was flown over Hyderabad, India. High energy gamma rays at the float altitude were unambiguously identified from the cascades they induced, and their energies reliably determined by improved methods. From an analysis of 163 gamma rays of energy ≳ 30 GeV, it is found that the differential energy spectrum is represented by the power lawJ r (E)= 129·4E −2·62±0·12 photons m−2 sr−1sec−1 GeV−1 at an effective atmospheric depth of 14·3 g cm−2; this is the first reliable balloon measurement of atmospheric gamma rays in the energy range 40–1000 GeV. After correcting for the gamma rays radiated by the primary cosmic ray electrons, the production spectrum of gamma rays, resulting from the collisions of cosmic ray nuclei with air nuclei, at the top of the atmosphere isP r (E, 0)=8·2 × 10−4 E2.60±0.09 photons g−1sr−1sec−1 GeV−1. The atmospheric propagation of the electromagnetic component due to the cascade process is also derived from the gamma ray production spectrum.  相似文献

The effect of Gamma radiation in Polyallydiglycol carbonate (PADC) detectorrs has been studied in the dose range of 100–106 Gy. Some of the properties like bulk-etch rate, track-etch rate, activation energy for bulk and track-etching have been found out for different gamma doses from 60Co Source in PADC. It is prpopsed that a water Cherenkov detector array, LHAASO-WCDA, is to be built at Shangri-la, Yunnan Province, China. As one of the major components of the LHAASO project, the main purpose of it is to survey the northern sky for gamma ray sources in the energy range of 100 GeV-30 TeV. In order to design the water Cherenkov array efficiently to economize the budget, a Monte Carlo simulation is carried out. With the help of the simulation, the cost performance of different configurations of the array are obtained and compared with each other, serving as a guide for the more detailed design of the experiment in the next step.  相似文献

The refraction of rays in the Savart polariscope is different from the isotropic medium. We have analysed and discussed the refraction of rays in the Savart polariscope on the basis of the Snell law. The refraction formulae of the extraordinary rays and ordinary rays were derived. Results obtained may provide theoretical and practical guide lines for studying, developing and engineering of polarization interference imaging spectrometer.  相似文献

利用CFBR-Ⅱ快中子反应堆(中国第二座快中子脉冲堆)和60Co装置开展不同顺序的中子/γ辐照双极晶体管的实验。在集电极-发射极电压恒定条件下,测量了双极晶体管电流增益随集电极电流的变化曲线,研究不同顺序中子/γ辐照对双极晶体管电流增益的影响。分析实验结果发现,集电极-发射极电压一定时,集电极电流极低情况下电流增益退化比较大,随集电极电流增加电流增益逐渐减小;就实验选中的两类晶体管而言,先中子后γ辐照造成双极晶体管电流增益的退化程度大于先γ后中子辐照,而且PNP型晶体管比NPN型晶体管差异更明显。本文进行了双极晶体管电离/位移协同辐照效应相关机理的初步探讨。  相似文献

利用TRIM95蒙特卡罗软件计算了质子在二氧化硅中的质量阻止本领和能量沉积,比较了质子在二氧化硅中的电离阻止本领与核阻止本领,分析了质子在材料的表面吸收剂量与灵敏区实际吸收剂量的关系.利用60Co γ射线、1MeV电子和2—9 MeV质子对CC4007RH和CC4011器件进行辐照实验,比较60Co γ射线和带电粒子的电离辐射损伤情况.实验结果表明,60Co γ射线、1MeV 电子和2—7MeV质子辐照损伤效应中,在0V栅压下可以相互等效; 关键词: γ射线 电子 质子 辐射损伤  相似文献

Abstract

The fast neutron and gamma ray spectra measured behind different thickness of steel scrap concrete with density of 4 g/cm3 have been studied. The mix proportions by weight of this type of concrete were 1 cement: 6.89 steel scrap: 2.9 sand and 0.5 Water. Comparison with a standard ordinary concrete of density 2.3 g/cm3 have been carried out. The measurements were made using a collimated beam of both gamma rays and neutrons emitted from one of the horizontal channel of the Egyptian Research Reactor-1. A fast neutron and gamma ray spectrometer with a stilbene crystal was used to measure the spectra of fast neutrons and gamma rays. Pulse shape discrimination using the zero cross over technique was used to separate the photon pulses from the electron pulses. The equation due to Schmidt has been modified and applied for determining the neutron effective removal cross sections (~R) for steel scrap, ordinary, hematite–serpentine, ilmenite–limonite and ilmenite concretes. This equation gives results which are in good agreement with the measured values. The derived empirical equation in a previous work to calculate the neutron integral flux behind different thicknesses of different types of concretes, gives good results for steel scrap concrete under investigation comparing with the corresponding experimental data. Total neutron macroscopic cross sections, linear attenuation coefficients for gamma rays and the half-value layers for both radiations at different energies have been obtained for steel scrap concrete and comparing with the corresponding values of ordinary concrete. The results show that steel scrap concrete is better than ordinary, hematite–serpentine, ilmenite–limonite and ilmenite concretes from the radiation shielding point of view.  相似文献

The objective of our study is to identify the role of gamma rays to control the existing limit of ferroelectric nature of lead meta niobate (PbNb2O6) single crystals in terms of domain-defect interaction. The critical value of density of oxygen vacancy sites and average distance between two successive oxygen vacancies, which are responsible for ferroelectric nature in lead niobate single crystal have been calculated. The disappearance of Ferro electricity, which is associated with domain-defect interaction as well as an absence of obeying the Curie-Weiss law have been discussed in gamma rays irradiated lead meta niobate single crystal.  相似文献

Ultraviolet and visible spectroscopic measurements were used to investigate prepared undoped and Mn-doped sodium phosphate glasses before and after successive gamma irradiation. The effects of both glass composition and MnO2 content on the generation of radiation-induced defects were investigated. Undoped sodium phosphate glass shows strong UV absorption, which is attributed to the presence of trace iron impurities present in the raw materials. Mn-doped glasses reveal an additional visible broad band centered at about 500 nm due to Mn3+, which has recently been related to the 5Eg5T2g transition. The radiation-induced bands are correlated with the generation of liberated electron–hole pairs during the process of gamma irradiation and the possibility of photochemical reactions especially with trace iron impurities and manganese ions. The intensity and the position of the induced bands are observed to depend on the type and composition of glass, concentration of the dopant and also on the irradiation dose. Manganese ions when present in relatively higher content have been found to show a shielding behavior towards the effects of progressive gamma irradiation causing a retardation of the growth of the induced defects. Infrared and Raman spectra of the undoped and Mn-doped glasses were measured to investigate the structural phosphate groups present and the effect of MnO2 on the network structure. An ESR investigation was carried out to confirm the state of manganese ions in the prepared sodium phosphate glasses.  相似文献

We attempt to interpret the cosmic-ray positron excess by injection from the nearby pulsar Geminga, assuming a two-zone diffusion scenario and an injection spectrum with a low energy cutoff. Since the high energy positrons and electrons from Geminga can induce γ rays via inverse Compton scattering, we take into account the extended γ-ray observations around Geminga from HAWC for ∼10 TeV and from Fermi-LAT for ${ \mathcal O }(10)$ GeV. According to the extended γ-ray observation claimed by an analysis of Fermi-LAT data, we find that Geminga could explain the positron excess for a 30% energy conversion efficiency into positrons and electrons. However, based on the constraint on the extended γ rays given by another Fermi-LAT analysis, positrons from Geminga would be insufficient to account for the positron excess. Further robust analysis of Fermi-LAT data for the extended γ rays would be crucial to determine whether Geminga can explain the positron excess or not.  相似文献
