Summary This paper investigates the problem of an anti-plane interfacial crack between two dissimilar piezoelectric material layers. A single crack is first considered. The effect of interaction of two collinear cracks in the medium on the field intensity factors is investigated. The solutions of several particular cases, including an infinite piezoelectric bi-material and a piezoelectric material bonded to an elastic medium, are given. The bi-material constants governing the behavior of the crack tip fields are identified. By considering the crack as a notch of finite thickness, it is shown that the thickness of the notch has a pronounced influence on the crack tip field. The results for the assumption of a permeable crack represent the limit case where the notch thickness is reduced to zero.BLW would like to thank the National Science Foundation of China (#10102004) and the City University of Hong Kong (DAG #7100219) for the support of this work. This paper constitutes the second part of a study of interface cracks with contact zones in thermopiezoelectrical bimaterials, and it is concerned with the case of an electrically impermeable interface crack. The principal physical peculiarity of this case in comparison with an impermeable interface crack is connected with the dependencies of the contact zone length and the fracture mechanical parameters on the prescribed electrical flux, and in a mathematical sense the main peculiarity is concerned with the reduction of the problem in question to the joint solution of inhomogeneous combined Dirichlet–Riemann and Hilbert boundary value problems. The exact analytical solutions of the mentioned problems have been found for an arbitrary contact zone length, and the required thermal, mechanical and electrical characteristics at the interface as well as the associated fracture mechanical parameters at the corresponding crack tips are presented. The transcendental equations for the determination of the real contact zone length have been obtained for a general case and for a small contact zone length in an especially simple form. Using the admissible directions of the heat and the electrical fluxes defined in this paper as well, the dependencies of the real contact zone length and the associated fracture and electrical intensity factors on the intensities of the thermal and electrical fluxes are presented in tables and associated diagrams.  相似文献

An electrically permeable interface crack with a frictionless contact zone at the right crack tip between two semi-infinite piezoelectric spaces under the action of a remote electromechanical loading and a temperature flux is considered. Assuming that all fields are independent on the coordinate x2 co-directed with the crack front, the stresses, the electrical and the temperature fluxes as well as the derivatives of the jumps of the displacements, the electrical potential and the temperature at the interface are presented via a set of analytic functions in the (x1,x3)-plane with a cut along the crack. Due to this representation firstly an auxiliary problem concerning the direction of the heat flux permitting a transition from a perfect thermal contact to a separation has been solved for a piezoelectric bimaterial. Besides, an inhomogeneous combined Dirichlet–Riemann boundary value problem has been formulated and solved exactly for the above mentioned interface crack. Stress and electrical displacements intensity factors are found in a clear analytical form which is especially easier for a small contact zone length. A simple equation and a closed form analytical formula for the determination of the real contact zone length have been derived and compared with the associated equation of the classical (oscillating) interface crack model defining the zone of crack faces interpenetration. For a numerical illustration of the obtained results a bimaterial cadmium selenium/glass has been used, and the influence of the heat flux upon the contact zone length and the associated stress intensity factor has been shown.  相似文献

In this paper, a method is presented to calculate the plane electro–elastic fields in piezoelectric materials with multiple cracks. The cracks may be distributed randomly in locations, orientations and sizes. In the method, each crack is treated as a continuous distributed dislocations with the density function to be determined according to the conditions of external loads and crack surfaces. Some numerical examples are given to show the interacting effect among multiple cracks.  相似文献

Corners and cracks are usually studied separately in the literature. To build a bridge connecting these two different but similar topics, in this paper the solutions for piezoelectric multi-wedges, which cover corners and interface corners, are used to study the cracks and interface cracks in piezoelectric materials. Moreover, the stress/electric intensity factors defined for cracks, interface cracks and interface corners are also extended to the general corners. By taking the special feature of Stroh formalism for anisotropic elasticity, all the solutions presented in this paper for piezoelectric materials preserve the same matrix form as those of the corresponding anisotropic problems. To see more clearly about the piezoeffects on the corners and cracks, most of the complex matrix form solutions are expanded in real component form for two typical piezoelectric ceramics with different poling directions.  相似文献

The dynamic stress and electric displacement intensity factors of impermeable cracks in homogeneous piezoelectric materials and interface cracks in piezoelectric bimaterials are evaluated by extending the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). In this method, a piezoelectric plate is divided into polygons. Each polygon is treated as a scaled boundary finite element subdomain. Only the boundaries of the subdomains need to be discretized with line elements. The dynamic properties of a subdomain are represented by the high order stiffness and mass matrices obtained from a continued fraction solution, which is able to represent the high frequency response with only 3–4 terms per wavelength. The semi-analytical solutions model singular stress and electric displacement fields in the vicinity of crack tips accurately and efficiently. The dynamic stress and electric displacement intensity factors are evaluated directly from the scaled boundary finite element solutions. No asymptotic solution, local mesh refinement or other special treatments around a crack tip are required. Numerical examples are presented to verify the proposed technique with the analytical solutions and the results from the literature. The present results highlight the accuracy, simplicity and efficiency of the proposed technique.  相似文献

Fracture behaviors of piezoelectric materials   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Theoretical analyses and experimental observations of the failure and fracture behaviors of piezoelectric materials are presented. The theoretical analyses are based on the Stroh formalism. A strip dielectric breakdown model is proposed to estimate the effect of electrical non-linearity on the piezoelectric fracture of electrically insulated cracks. The reviewed experiments include the indentation fracture test, the bending test on smooth samples, the fracture test on pre-notched or pre-cracked samples, the environment-assisted fracture test, etc. For electrically insulated cracks, the experimental results show a complicated fracture behavior under combined electrical and mechanical loading. Fracture data are greatly scattered when a static electric field is applied. For electrically conducting cracks, the experimental results demonstrate that static electric fields can fracture poled and depoled lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramics. A charge-free zone model is introduced to understand the failure behavior of conducting cracks in the depoled lead zirconate titanate ceramics under electrical and/or mechanical loading. These theoretical and experimental results indicate that fracture mechanics concepts are useful in the study of the failure behaviors of piezoelectric materials.  相似文献

Fracture analysis is performed on a layered piezoelectric sensor possessing a Kelvin-type viscoelastic interface. An electrically permeable anti-plane crack is situated in the piezoelectric layer and perpendicular to the interface. The crack problem is solved by the methods of integral transform and Cauchy singular integral equation. The variations of the dynamic stress intensity factor (DSIF) vs. physical and geometrical parameters are investigated. At the beginning of creep and relaxation, larger viscosity coefficient always induces smaller DSIF. With time elapsing, the effect of viscosity coefficient becomes weaker and weaker. When time approaches infinity, the viscous effect disappears, and the DSIF converges to a value corresponding to the case of an elastic interface. The effect of the viscoelastic interface on the fracture behavior of the piezoelectric layer also depends on the substrate thickness. To some extent, thicker substrate may intensify the effect of the interface.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problems of circular-arc crack between bonded dissimilar materials under antiplane concentrated forces. By applying the analytic continuation technique and the analyzing method of the Singularity in complex functions, we obtain universal solutions for the problems. For several typical cases the closed form solutions are obtained and the stress intensity factors are devived From these solutions, we provide a series of particular results, some of which coincide with those in Ref.(7).  相似文献

An interfacial crack with electrically permeable surfaces between two dissimilar piezoelectric ceramics under electromechanical loading is investigated. An exact expression for singular stress and electric fields near the tip of a permeable crack between two dissimilar anisotropic piezoelectric media are obtained. The interfacial crack-tip fields are shown to consist of both an inverse square root singularity and a pair of oscillatory singularities. It is found that the singular fields near the permeable interfacial crack tip are uniquely characterized by the real valued stress intensity factors proposed in this paper. The energy release rate is obtained in terms of the stress intensity factors. The exact solution of stress and electric fields for a finite interfacial crack problem is also derived.  相似文献

Existing studies on the fracture of cracked piezoelectric materials have been limited mostly to the electrically impermeable and permeable crack models, which represent the limiting cases of the physical boundary condition along the crack surfaces. This paper presents a study on the electromechanical behaviour of interacting dielectric cracks in piezoelectric materials. The cracks are filled with dielectric media and, as the result, the electric boundary condition along the crack surfaces is governed by the opening displacement of the cracks. The formulation of this nonlinear problem is based on simulating the cracks using distributed dislocations and solving the resulting nonlinear singular integral equations. Multiple deformation modes are observed. A solution technique is developed to determine the desired deformation mode of the interacting cracks. Numerical results are given to show the effect of the interaction between parallel cracks. Attention is paid to the transition between permeable and impermeable models with increasing crack opening.  相似文献

Summary The interface crack problem for a piezoelectric bimaterial based on permeable conditions is studied numerically. To find the singular electromechanical field at the crack tip, an asymptotic solution is derived in connection with the conventional finite element method. For mechanical and electrical loads, the complex stress intensity factor for an interface crack is obtained. The influence of the applied loads on the electromechanical fields near the crack tip is also studied. For a particular case of a short crack with respect to the bimaterial size, the numerical results are compared with the exact analytical solutions, obtained for a piezoelectric bimaterial plane with an interface crack. One author (V.G.) gratefully acknowledges the support provided by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany.accepted for publication 7 June 2004  相似文献

The method is very efficient by applying extended Schwarz principle integrated with the analysis of the singularity of complex stress functions to solve some plane-elastic problems under concentrated loads, in Ref.[1], this method is used to deal with the elastic problems of homogeneous plane. In this paper, it is extended to the case of dissimilar materials with co-circular cracks under concentrated force and moment. For several typical cases the solutions of complex stress function in closed form are built up and the stress intensity factors are given. From these solutions, we provide a series of particular results, in which two of them coincide with those in Refs. [1] and [6].  相似文献

The coupled elastic and electric fields for anisotropic piezoelectric materials with electrically permeable cracks are analyzed by using Stroh formula in anisotropic elasticity. It is shown from the solution that the tangent component of the electric field strength and the normal component of the electric displacement along the faces of cracks are all constants, and the electric field intensity and electric displacement have the singularity of type (1/2) at the crack tip. The energy release rate for crack propagation depends on both the stress intensity factor and material constants. The electric field intensity and electric displacement inside electrically permeable cracks are all constants.  相似文献

In this paper, the concept of energy density factor S for piezoelectric materials is presented. In addition to the mechanical energy the electrical energy is included as well. The direction of crack initiation is assumed to occur when Smin reaches a critical value Scr that can be used as an intrinsic materials parameter and is independent of the crack geometry and loading. The result agrees with empirical evidence qualitatively and explains rationally the effect of applied electric field on fracture strength: positive electric fields decrease the apparent fracture toughness of piezoelectric materials while negative electric fields increase it.  相似文献

The behavior of two parallel non-symmetric cracks in piezoelectric materials subjected to the anti-plane shear loading was studied by the Schmidt method for the permeable crack electric boundary conditions. Through the Fourier transform, the present problem can be solved with two pairs of dual integral equations ip which the unknown variables are the jumps of displacements across crack surfaces. To solve the dual integral equations, the jumps of displacements across crack surfaces were directly expanded in a series of Jacobi polynomials. Finally, the relations between electric displacement intensity factors and stress intensity factors at crack tips can be obtained. Numerical examples are provided to show the effect of the distance between two cracks upon stress and electric displacement intensity factors at crack tips. Contrary to the impermeable crack surface condition solution, it is found that electric displacement intensity factors for the permeable crack surface conditions are much smaller than those for the impermeable crack surface conditions. At the same time, it can be found that the crack shielding effect is also present in the piezoelectric materials.  相似文献

Bueckner‘s work conjugate integral customarily adopted for linear elastic materials is established for an interface crack in dissimilar anisotropic materials. The difficulties in separating Stroh‘s six complex arguments involved in the integral for the dissimilar materials are overcome and then the explicit function representations of the integral are given and studied in detail. It is found that the pseudo-orthogonal properties of the eigenfunction expansion form (EEF) for a crack presented previously in isotropic elastic cases, in isotopic bimaterial cases, and in orthotropic cases are also valid in the present dissimilar arbitrary anisotropic cases. The relation between Bueckner‘s work conjugate integral and the J-integral in these cases is obtained by introducing a complementary stressdisplacement state. Finally, some useful path-independent integrals and weight functions are proposed for calculating the crack tip parameters such as the stress intensity factors.  相似文献

In this paper, the basic solutions of two parallel mode-I cracks or four parallel mode-I cracks in the piezoelectric materials were investigated by means of the Schmidt method for the limited-permeable electric boundary conditions. The electric permittivity of air in the crack was considered. Through the Fourier transform, the problems can be solved with the help of two pairs of dual integral equations, in which the unknown variables were the jumps of the displacements across the crack surfaces, not the dislocation density functions. To solve the dual integral equations, the jumps of the displacements across the crack surfaces were directly expanded in a series of Jacobi polynomials. Finally, the effects of the distance between two parallel cracks, the distance between two collinear cracks and the electric boundary conditions on the stress and the electric intensity factors in the piezoelectric materials are analyzed. These results can be used for the strength evaluation of the piezoelectric materials with multi-cracks. The crack shielding effect is also present in the piezoelectric materials.  相似文献
