Here, the large amplitude free flexural vibration behaviors of thin laminated composite skew plates are investigated using finite element approach. The formulation includes the effects of shear deformation, in-plane and rotary inertia. The geometric non-linearity based on von Karman's assumptions is introduced. The non-linear governing equations obtained employing Lagrange's equations of motion are solved using the direct iteration technique. The variation of non-linear frequency ratios with amplitudes is brought out considering different parameters such as skew angle, number of layers, fiber orientation, boundary condition and aspect ratio. The influence of higher vibration modes on the non-linear dynamic behavior of laminated skew plates is also highlighted. The present study reveals the redistribution of vibrating mode shape at certain amplitude of vibration depending on geometric and lamination parameters of the plate. Also, the degree of hardening behavior increases with the skew angle and its rate of change depends on the level of amplitude of vibration.  相似文献

By means of Berger's approximation, suitable for plates with immovable edges, the geometrically nonlinear problem is considerably simplified. Thermally loaded plates with polygonal planform under hard-hinged support conditions are considered, taking into account the effect of shear in transverse isotropy. The class of symmetric vibrations about the flat plate position is represented by a homogeneous and coupled set of Duffing-oscillators as a result of a multi-mode expansion. A unifying non-dimensional closed-form solution for the corresponding nonlinear natural vibration periods is given, which is independent of the special planform. The individual shape of the plate enters the transformation into real time through the linear natural frequencies, or, equivalently, through the linear eigen-values of an effectively prestressed membrane of the same planform.  相似文献

The free vibration of annular thick plates with linearly varying thickness along the radial direction is studied, based on the linear, small strain, three-dimensional (3-D) elasticity theory. Various boundary conditions, symmetrically and asymmetrically linear variations of upper and lower surfaces are considered in the analysis. The well-known Ritz method is used to derive the eigen-value equation. The trigonometric functions in the circumferential direction, the Chebyshev polynomials in the thickness direction, and the Chebyshev polynomials multiplied by the boundary functions in the radial direction are chosen as the trial functions. The present analysis includes full vibration modes, e.g., flexural, thickness-shear, extensive, and torsional. The first eight frequency parameters accurate to at least four significant figures for five vibration categories are obtained. Comparisons of present results for plates having symmetrically linearly varying thickness are made with others based on 2-D classical thin plate theory, 2-D moderate thickness plate theory, and 3-D elasticity theory. The first 35 natural frequencies for plates with asymmetrically linearly varying thickness are compared to the finite element solutions; excellent agreement has been achieved. The asymmetry effect of upper and lower surface variations on the frequency parameters of annular plates is discussed in detail. The first four modes of axisymmetric vibration for completely free circular plates with symmetrically and asymmetrically linearly varying thickness are plotted. The present results for 3-D vibration of annular plates with linearly varying thickness can be taken as benchmark data for validating results from various plate theories and numerical methods.  相似文献

Summary In this paper a nonlinear vibration theory which includes the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotatory inertia is formulated for rectilinearly orthotropic circular plates using Berger's method. A solution to the governing equations for rigidly clamped plates is obtained on the basis of a single-mode approach by use of Galerkin's method and numerical Runge-Kutta procedure. A good agreement is found between present results and those obtained by a more accurate theory for nonlinear static and dynamic cases. Numerical results indicate significant influence of these effects on the vibration behaviour of moderately thick plates, especially high-modulus composite plates. These effects, however, are not so significant for the radius-to-thickness ratio greater than 10.
Nichtlineare Schwingungen orthotroper Kreisplatten

In this paper, the dynamic stability of laminated hybrid composite plates subjected to periodic uniaxial stress and bending stress is studied. The governing equations of motion of Mathieu-type are established by using the Galerkin method with reduced eigenfunctions transforms. Based on Bolotin's method the regions of dynamic instability of laminated hybrid composite plates are determined by solving the eigenvalue problems. The effects of layer thickness ratio, layer number, core material and load parameter on the dynamic instability of laminated hybrid composite plates are investigated and discussed.  相似文献

Circular plates with radially varying thickness, stiffness, and density are widely used for the structural optimization in engineering. The axisymmetric flexural free vibration of such plates, governed by coupled differential equations with variable coefficients by use of the Mindlin plate theory, is very difficult to be studied analytically. In this paper, a novel analytical method is proposed to reduce such governing equations for circular plates to a pair of uncoupled and easily solvable differential equations of the Sturm-Liouville type. There are two important parameters in the reduced equations. One describes the radial variations of the translational inertia and flexural rigidity with the consideration of the effect of Poisson's ratio. The other reflects the comprehensive effect of the rotatory inertia and shear deformation. The Heun-type equations, recently well-known in physics, are introduced here to solve the flexural free vibration of circular plates analytically, and two basic differential formulae for the local Heun-type functions are discovered for the first time, which will be of great value in enriching the theory of Heun-type differential equations.  相似文献

An efficient model reduction based methodology is presented for predicting the global (impact force, plate deflection and electric potential) and through-thickness local (interfacial strains and stresses) dynamic response of pristine simply-supported cross-ply composite and sandwich composite plates with piezoelectric sensory layers subjected to low-energy impact. The through-thickness response of the laminate is modelled using coupled higher-order layerwise displacement-based piezoelectric laminate theories. Linearized contact laws are implemented for simulating the impactor–target interaction during impact. The stiffness, mass, piezoelectric and permittivity matrices of the plate are formulated from ply to structural level and reduced by applying a Guyan reduction technique to yield the structural system in state space. This reduction technique enables the formulation of a plate–impactor structural system of minimum size (1 term per vibration mode for composite plates – 2 terms for sandwich plates) and reduces computational cost, thus facilitating applicability for real-time impact and vibration control.  相似文献

Using the complex variable method and conformal mapping, scattering of flexural waves and dynamic stress concentrations in Mindlin's thick plates with a cutout have been studied. The general solution of the stress problem of the thick plate satisfying the boundary conditions on the contour of cutouts is obtained. Applying the orthogonal function expansion technique, the dynamic stress problem can be reduced into the solution of a set of infinite algebraic equations. As examples, numerical results for the dynamic stress concentration factor in Mindlin's plates with a circular, elliptic cutout are graphically presented in sequence. Summary An integral equation formulation for the dynamic biaxial response of slightly curved elastic-viscoplastic beams is presented in the context of a multiple field analysis, which takes into account the geometrically nonlinear influence of moderately large deflections. Materials are considered in the regime of rate-dependent plasticity and are subjected to accumulated ductile damage. The latter is modeled by the growth of voids in the plastic zones of an initially porous elastic material. Inelastic defects of the material are considered in the linear elastic background beam by a second imposed strain field (eigenstrains). Geometrically nonlinear effects of large deflections under conditions of immovable supports are approximately taken into account. By inspection, they render another “strain field” to be imposed on the linear background beam. Superposition applies in the linear elastic background in an incremental formulation. Linear methods, as those based on Green's functions and Duhamel's integral, are used to account for the given loads as well as for the resultants of the imposed strain fields. The intensity and the distribution of the imposed strain fields are calculated incrementally in a time-stepping procedure. They are determined by the constitutive law and by application of the nonlinear geometric relations. The numerical procedure resulting from the multiple fields in the elastic background is illustrated for two cases: (1) a preloaded viscoplastic beam of rectangular cross section is subjected to oblique flexural vibrations when forced by a sinusoidal load, and (2) an I-beam with a prescribed initial curvature is severely impacted and thus driven into the plastic regime. Free vibration of functionally graded(FG) annular sector plates embedded with two piezoelectric layers is studied with a generalized differential quadrature(GDQ)method. Based on the first-order shear deformation(FSD) plate theory and Hamilton's principle with parameters satisfying Maxwell's electrostatics equation in the piezoelectric layers, governing equations of motion are developed. Both open and closed circuit(shortly connected) boundary conditions on the piezoelectric surfaces, which are respective conditions for sensors and actuators, are accounted for. It is observed that the open circuit condition gives higher natural frequencies than a shortly connected condition. For the simulation of the potential electric function in piezoelectric layers, a sinusoidal function in the transverse direction is considered. It is assumed that properties of the FG material(FGM) change continuously through the thickness according to a power distribution law.The fast rate convergence and accuracy of the GDQ method with a small number of grid points are demonstrated through some numerical examples. With various combinations of free, clamped, and simply supported boundary conditions, the effects of the thicknesses of piezoelectric layers and host plate, power law index of FGMs, and plate geometrical parameters(e.g., angle and radii of annular sector) on the in-plane and out-of-plane natural frequencies for different FG and piezoelectric materials are also studied. Results can be used to predict the behaviors of FG and piezoelectric materials in mechanical systems.  相似文献

Steady-state free vibrations, with large amplitude displacements, of variable stiffness composite laminated plates (VSCL) are analysed. The intentions of this research are: (1)?to find out how the natural frequencies and (mode) shapes evolve with the displacement amplitude in this new type of laminated composite material; (2)?to describe modal interactions in VSCL due to energy interchanges under the coupling induced by non-linearity; (3)?to compare the VSCL with traditional, constant stiffness, laminated plates. The VSCL of interest here have curvilinear fibres and the numerical analysis carried out is based on a recently developed p-version finite element with hierarchic basis functions. The element follows first-order shear deformation theory and considers Von Kármán??s non-linear terms. The time domain equations of motion are first reduced using the linear modes of vibration and then transformed to the frequency domain via the harmonic balance method. These frequency domain equations are solved by an arc-length continuation method.  相似文献

Wiighted residual solutions are presented for thermal bending of laminated composite plates. The material of each layer is assumed to be clastically and thermoelastically orthotropic and bimodular. The formulations are based on the thermoclastic version of the theory of Whitney-Pagano laminated plate, which includes thickness shear detormations. The results are obtained for deflections and neutral-surface positions and are found to be in good agreement with the closed-form solution.  相似文献

This paper is analytically concerned with the large amplitude vibration of thick orthotropic circular plates incorporating the effects of transverse shear and rotatory inertia. Von Kármán-type field equations written in terms of the three displacement components of the plate are utilized to obtain solutions to clamped stress-free and immovable plates. By means of Galerkin's technique and a numerical Runge-Kutta procedure a multiple-mode analysis is carried out in both cases. Exact solutions are reported for two of the three governing equations. Effects of transverse shear deformation and modal interaction are found to be significant for orthotropic thick plates. The method given here could be extended to the multiple-mode analysis of circular plates with other boundary conditions.  相似文献
