Regular nilpotent Hessenberg varieties form a family of subvarieties of the flag variety arising in the study of quantum cohomology, geometric representation theory, and numerical analysis. In this paper we construct a paving by affines of regular nilpotent Hessenberg varieties for all classical types, generalizing results of De Concini–Lusztig–Procesi and Kostant. This paving is in fact the intersection of a particular Bruhat decomposition with the Hessenberg variety. The nonempty cells of the paving and their dimensions are identified by combinatorial conditions on roots. We use the paving to prove these Hessenberg varieties have no odd-dimensional homology.   相似文献

We prove that the so-called Smoluchowski-Kramers approximation holds for a class of partial differential equations perturbed by a non-Gaussian noisy term. Namely, we show that the solution of the one-dimensional semi-linear stochastic damped wave equations , u(0) = u0, ut (0) = v0, endowed with Dirichlet boundary conditions, converges as the parameter μ goes to zero to the solution of the semi-linear stochastic heat equation , u(0) = u0, endowed with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The scattering of acoustic waves by an elastic sphere in a shallow ocean wave guide is investigated taking into account the shear waves which can exist in addition to compressional waves in scatterers of solid material. Expressions for the scattered waves are given. Numerical values for a quantity called the farfield form function for various depth are presented in graphical forms.   相似文献

Using continuation methods and bifurcation theory, we study the exact multiplicity of periodic solutions, and the global solution structure, for a class of periodically forced pendulum-like equations. Our results apply also to the first order equations. We also show that by choosing a forcing term, one can produce periodic solutions with any number of Fourier coefficients arbitrarily prescribed.  相似文献

In this paper we prove that rational indecomposability is a genus property for finitely generated torsion-free nilpotent groups of class 2. We use this result to determine the genus of finitely generated torsion-free nilpotent groups of class 2 which decompose as a direct product of rationally indecomposable groups. The moduli space parameterizes the isomorphism classes of S-pointed stable real curves of genus zero which are invariant under relabeling by the involution σ. This moduli space is stratified according to the degeneration types of σ-invariant curves. The degeneration types of σ-invariant curves are encoded by their dual trees with additional decorations. We construct a combinatorial graph complex generated by the fundamental classes of strata of . We show that the homology of is isomorphic to the homology of our graph complex. The paper is devoted to the presentation of Leray’s approach to the Cauchy problem for strictly hyperbolic operators. In the first section we give the main definitions of strictly hyperbolic operators and separating operators corresponding to them. We present the plan of derivation of the a priori estimates necessary for the proof of solvability of the Cauchy problem. A classical theorem of Schur states that if the centre of a group G has finite index, then the commutator subgroup G′ of G is finite. A lattice analogue of this result is proved in this paper: if a group G contains a modularly embedded subgroup of finite index, then there exists a finite normal subgroup N of G such that G/N has modular subgroup lattice. Here a subgroup M of a group G is said to be modularly embedded in G if the lattice is modular for each element x of G. Some consequences of this theorem are also obtained; in particular, the behaviour of groups covered by finitely many subgroups with modular subgroup lattice is described. We investigate the degree of the polar transformations associated to a certain class of multi-valued homogeneous functions. In particular we prove that the degree of the preimage of generic linear spaces by a polar transformation associated to a homogeneous polynomial F is determined by the zero locus of F. For zero dimensional-dimensional linear spaces this was conjectured by Dolgachev and proved by Dimca–Papadima using topological arguments. Our methods are algebro-geometric and rely on the study of the Gauss map of naturally associated logarithmic foliations.   相似文献

We describe several general methods for calculating weights of mixed tilting sheaves. We introduce a notion called “non-cancellation property” which implies a strong uniqueness of mixed tilting sheaves and enables one to calculate their weights effectively. When we have a certain Radon transform, we prove a geometric analogue of Ringel duality which sends tilting objects to projective objects. We apply these methods to (partial) flag varieties and affine (partial) flag varieties and show that the weight polynomials of mixed tilting sheaves on flag and affine flag varieties are essentially given by Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. This verifies a mixed geometric analogue of a conjecture by W. Soergel in [10].   相似文献

We study certain algebraic properties of the small quantum homology algebra for the class of symplectic toric Fano manifolds. In particular, we examine the semisimplicity of this algebra, and the more general property of containing a field as a direct summand. Our main result provides an easily verifiable sufficient condition for these properties which is independent of the symplectic form. Moreover, we answer two questions of Entov and Polterovich negatively by providing examples of toric Fano manifolds with non-semisimple quantum homology, and others in which the Calabi quasi-morphism is not unique.   相似文献
