We present a single-scattering approximation for infrared radiative transfer in limb geometry in the Martian atmosphere. It is based on the assumption that the upwelling internal radiation field is dominated by a surface with a uniform brightness temperature. It allows the calculation of the scattering source function for individual aerosol types, mixtures of aerosol types, and mixtures of gas and aerosol. The approximation can be applied in a Curtis-Godson radiative transfer code and is used for operational retrievals from Mars Climate Sounder measurements. Radiance comparisons with a multiple scattering model show good agreement in the mid- and far-infrared although the approximate model tends to underestimate the radiances in realistic conditions of the Martian atmosphere. Relative radiance differences are found to be about 2% in the lowermost atmosphere, increasing to ∼10% in the middle atmosphere of Mars. The increasing differences with altitude are mostly due to the increasing contribution to limb radiance of scattering relative to emission at the colder, higher atmospheric levels. This effect becomes smaller toward longer wavelengths at typical Martian temperatures. The relative radiance differences are expected to produce systematic errors of similar magnitude in retrieved opacity profiles.  相似文献

Human exploration missions to Mars will require the development of technologies for the utilization of the planet's own resources for the production of commodities. However, the Martian atmosphere contains large amounts of dust. The extraction of commodities from this atmosphere requires prior removal of this dust. We report on our development of an electrostatic precipitator able to collect Martian simulated dust particles in atmospheric conditions approaching those of Mars. Extensive experiments with an initial prototype in a simulated Martian atmosphere showed efficiencies of 99%. The design of a second prototype with aerosolized Martian simulated dust in a flow-through is described.  相似文献

Based on the observation that Martian magnetic moment is gradually reducing from the ancient to the present, we investigate the O^+ ion flux distribution along magnetic field lines and the ion escaping flux in Martian tail with different assumed Martian magnetic moments. The results show that the O^+ ion flux along magnetic field lines decreases with distance from Mars; the ion flux along the field line decreases more quickly if the magnetic moment is larger; the larger the magnetic moment, the smaller the ion escaping flux in the Martian tail. The ion escaping flux depends on Z-coordinate in the Martian tail. With decrease of the magnetic moment, the ion escaping flux in the Martian tail increases. The results are significant for studying the water loss from Mars S uFface.  相似文献

A diode laser spectrometer was used in the laboratory to study H2O and CO2 line intensities and self-broadening coefficients around 1.877 μm. The spectral region ranging from 5327 cm-1 to 5329 cm-1, which is suitable for the in situ sensing of water vapor and carbon dioxide in the Martian atmosphere, was studied using a distributed feedback GaInSb diode laser from Nanoplus GmbH. We have studied one line from the (011)←(000)band of H2O and two lines from the (0112)I←(000) band of CO2. The results of intensity and self-broadening measurements are compared to available databases, ab initio calculations and previous experimental determinations. Finally, we discuss the current development of the tunable diode laser absorption spectrometer instrument, a laser diode sensor devoted to the in situ measurement of H2O and CO2 in the Martian atmosphere. The calculation data on convective and radiation heating of the Pathfinder space vehicle (SV) during entry into the Martian atmosphere at an angle of attack are presented. Comparison with the results of calculations of convective heating of the frontal surface of the Pathfinder SV in the axisymmetric statement is carried out. The data on the radiation heating of the Pathfinder SV entering the Martian atmosphere at an angle of attack have been obtained for the first time. The analysis of the spectral composition of the thermal radiation reaching the surface of the space vehicle is carried out; this makes it possible to mark the change of modes of the radiation heating.  相似文献

We have calculated the effective potential experienced by highly relativistic neutrinos in a weakly magnetized electron–positron plasma, where a momentum-dependent finite-width correction to the propagator of W is considered to account for the threshold effect. Magnetars are believed to be sources of TeV–PeV neutrinos which are produced due to photomeson and proton–proton interactions in their atmosphere. We have studied the resonant-oscillation process ν e ν μ,τ of the highly relativistic neutrinos in the atmosphere of SGR 1806-20, which is a magnetar. It is shown that, for high-energy neutrinos propagating within the magnetar atmosphere, the resonance condition can never be satisfied. On the other hand, if GeV neutrinos are produced deep inside the magnetar atmosphere, where the temperature is about 50 keV or more, then these neutrinos can undergo resonant oscillation.  相似文献

The Martian landscape is currently dominated by eolian processes, and eolian dunes are a direct geomorphic expression of the dynamic interaction between the atmosphere and the lithosphere of planets. The timing, frequency, and spatial extent of dune mobility directly reflects changing climatic conditions, therefore, sedimentary depositional ages are important for understanding the paleoclimatic and geomorphologic history of features and processes present on the surface of the Earth or Mars. Optical dating is an established terrestrial dosimetric dating technique that is being developed for this task on Mars. Gypsum and anhydrite are two of the most stable and abundant sulfate species found on the Earth, and they have been discovered in Martian sediments along with various magnesium sulfates and jarosite. In this study, the optical dating properties of various Ca-, Mg-, and Fe-bearing sulfates were documented to help evaluate the influence they may have on in-situ optical dating in eolian environments on Mars. Single-aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) experimental procedures have been adapted to characterize the radiation dose response and signal stability of the Martian sulfate analogs. Jarosite was dosimetrically inert in our experiments. The radiation dose response of the Ca- and Mg-sulfates was monotonically increasing in all cases with characteristic doses ranging from ∼100 to ∼1000 Gy. Short-term signal fading also varied considerably in the Ca- and Mg-sulfates ranging from ∼0% to ∼40% per decade for these materials. These results suggest that the OSL properties of Ca- and Mg-sulfates will need to be considered when developing protocols for in-situ optical dating on Mars, but more enticingly, our results foreshadow the potential for gypsum to be developed as a geochronometer for Mars or the Earth.  相似文献

Fluorescence measurements have been used to characterize the velocity of atoms in a femtosecond-laser-produced plasma. Nanogram amounts of a copper sample were ablated by the focused radiation (λ=775 nm) of an all-solid-state laser. The laser was operated at a pulse rate of 10 Hz with an energy of 200μJ per pulse. The microplasma expanded into a defined argon atmosphere of pressures between 0.02 and 850 mbar. Atomic fluorescence was excited in the laser plume by a dye-laser pulse with the wavelength set to the line Cu I 282.4 nm. The narrowed beam of the dye-laser was directed into the plasma at different heights above the sample surface. The fluorescence radiation was measured with an échelle-spectrometer, equipped with an intensified-charge-coupled device as the detector. The velocity depends strongly on the pressure of the ambient atmosphere and the distance from the sample surface. The highest velocity found at an argon pressure of 0.02 mbar was 1.0×106 cm s−1.  相似文献

Our purpose was a qualitative assessment of the impact of dust and water ice aerosols on the retrieved temperature profiles and the retrieval process itself in the Martian atmosphere. It aims to quantify the related uncertainties in the atmospheric temperature profiles derived from radiance measurements of the Planetary Fourier Spectrometer (PFS), currently operating on the Mars Express orbiter. In this study the effects of aerosol opacities on simulated data and retrieved temperature profiles were also investigated.From the analysis of the model atmosphere including dust and water ice with different size distributions it results that the dust component affects weighting functions and brightness temperatures less than water ice. A similar situation is also observed when different vertical distributions are considered. Unlike dust, water ice with different sizes of crystals evidently influences weighting functions and brightness temperatures. The impact of the considered water ice vertical distributions on brightness temperatures is noticeable only near 840 cm−1.Considering different dust opacities, the largest differences—5 K maximum—between retrieved temperature profiles were observed close to the surface, regardless assumptions on a size distribution or the refractive indices. Contrary to dust, the different sizes of water ice particles assumed during retrieval stronger affected the retrieved temperature profiles than water ice opacities. Moreover, the differences in the retrieved temperature profiles were amplified while wrong optical properties for dust as well as for water ice aerosol were assumed instead of the nominal case. This means that the wrong assumption can induce an additional source of the retrieval error and lead to unreasonable temperature profiles. In the cases of expected heavily loads water ice crystals, their size distribution in the Martian atmosphere should be known from other observations before the retrieval of the temperature profile is attempted.For the analyzed examples of real PFS measurements the impact of different dust vertical distributions on the retrieval of temperature profile is prominent only in layers close to the surface. However, these differences remain comparable with retrieval errors. All influences of dust on weighting functions, brightness temperatures and during retrieval can be neglected if the noise equivalent radiance (NER) of PFS is taken into account.  相似文献

Al–Cu–Ag alloy was prepared in a graphite crucible under a vacuum atmosphere. The samples were directionally solidified upwards under an argon atmosphere with different temperature gradients (G=3.99–8.79 K/mm), at a constant growth rate (V=8.30 μm/s), and with different growth rates (V=1.83–498.25 μm/s), at a constant gradient (G=8.79 K/mm) by using the Bridgman type directional solidification apparatus. The microstructure of Al-12.80-at.%–Cu-18.10-at.%–Ag alloy seems to be two fibrous and one lamellar structure. The interlamellar spacings (λ) were measured from transverse sections of the samples. The dependence of interlamellar spacings (λ) on the temperature gradient (G) and the growth rate (V) were determined by using linear regression analysis. According to these results it has been found that the value of λ decreases with the increase of values of G and V. The values of λ 2 V were also determined by using the measured values of λ and V. The experimental results were compared with two-phase growth from binary and ternary eutectic liquid.  相似文献

Fully processed non-oriented silicon steel samples 0.50 mm thick were sheared and submitted to stress relief annealing under different conditions of temperature and atmosphere to investigate the effect of this treatment on the recovery of magnetic properties. Two different compositions were used, with different Si and Al contents. Temperature was varied in the range of 600–900 °C and four atmospheres were used: N2 and N2+10%H2 combined with dew points of −10 and 15 °C. The results showed that annealing atmosphere has very important effect on the magnetic properties and that the beneficial effect of stress relief annealing can be overcome by the detrimental effect of the atmosphere under certain conditions, due to oxidation and nitration.  相似文献

This paper reports the laboratory spectroscopic calibration of near- and mid- infrared tunable laser spectrometers used to determine in situ trace gases in the middle atmosphere of the Earth or in development for the investigation of the Martian atmosphere. The use of infrared absorption spectroscopy to measure gas concentrations requires a proper knowledge of the rotation–vibration spectra of the targeted molecules as well as a proper investigation of the tunable laser spectral emission properties. This last point is of particular importance for the use of new-generation lasers like quantum-cascade lasers or room-temperature multi-quantum wells laser diodes emitting between 2 and 3 μm. Purposely, we have developed various laboratory tunable laser set-ups to obtain accurate line strengths and pressure-broadening coefficients of atmospheric molecules and to test the performances of cutting-edge laser technology for trace gas sensing. In this paper, the spectroscopic calibration work is described. The influence of annealing treatments and gamma-ray irradiation on the absorption and fluorescence spectra of Cr:GSGG crystals grown by the Czochralski method has been investigated. Two absorption bands located near 686 nm and 1050 nm were weakened markedly after the crystal was re-annealed in H2 atmosphere, which is due to the Cr4+ ions being de-oxidized into Cr3+ ions. The other two weak additional absorption bands induced by gamma-ray irradiation appearing near 310 nm and 480 nm are ascribed to the Fe2+ ions and F-type color centers, respectively. In particular, the gamma-ray irradiation with a dose of 100 Mrad has an effect of improving slightly the luminescence properties of Cr:GSGG crystals. The improvement mechanism is analyzed and discussed.  相似文献

Long silicon nitride (Si3N4) nanowires with high purity were synthesized by heating mixtures of SiO2 powders and short carbon fibers at 1430°C for 2 h in a flowing N2 atmosphere. The nanowires had the length of 1–2 millimeters and the diameters of 70–300 nm, and were mainly composed of -Si3N4, growing along the [001] direction. In the perspective of higher approximations of the Chapman-Enskog theory for transport property calculations, existing transport cross sections databases for interactions involving Earth atmosphere species have been updated and extended to Mars atmosphere components, proposing a phenomenological approach for the derivation of the relevant elastic collision integrals in neutral-neutral and neutral-ion interactions. Magnetic properties have been investigated on Mn doped TiO2(Ti0.98Mn0.02O2) bulk samples prepared by solid state reaction, which were sintered at different temperature ranging from 450 °C to 900 °C in air and argon atmosphere, respectively. The results show that the magnetic properties were strongly dependent on the sintering temperature and atmosphere. For samples sintered in air, the magnetization initially increase with the increase of sintering temperature up to 600 °C and thereafter it decrease. While the magnetization of samples sintered in argon atmosphere decreases monotonically with the increase of sintering temperature. Furthermore, for samples sintered at 600 °C in air, the magnetic susceptibility exhibits a dominant Curie-Weiss behaviour and no magnetic transition is observed over the temperature range from 10 to 300 K. In contrast, for samples sintered in argon atmosphere, besides the magnetic transition near 45 K perhaps caused by Mn3O4, another magnetic transition appears near room temperature.  相似文献

In this paper a comparative study of different wet-chemical etching procedures of vicinal Si(1 1 1) surface passivation is presented. The stability against oxidation under ambient atmosphere was studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. The best results were achieved by the buffered HF etching and the final smoothing of the surface by hot (72 °C) NH4F. The procedures consisting of a large number of etching steps were unsatisfactory, since the probability of contamination during each step was increasing. The passivated surface was stable against oxidation for at least 3 h under ambient atmosphere.  相似文献

The effect of laser ablation on copper foil irradiated by a short 30 ns laser pulse was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The laser fluence was varied from 8 to 16.5 J/cm2 and the velocity of the laser beam from 10 to 100 mm/s. This range of laser fluence is characterized by a different intensity of laser ablation. The experiments were done in two kinds of ambient atmosphere: air and argon jet gas.The chemical state and composition of the irradiated copper surface were determined using the modified Auger parameter (α′) and O/Cu intensity ratio. The ablation atmosphere was found to influence the size and chemical state of the copper particles deposited from the vapor plume. During irradiation in air atmosphere the copper nanoparticles react with oxygen and water vapor from the air and are deposited in the form of a CuO and Cu(OH)2 thin film. In argon atmosphere the processed copper surface is oxidized after exposure to air.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) filled completely with polycrystalline Cu nanowires were synthesized by laser vaporization of Cu and graphite under high-pressure Ar gas atmosphere. Depending on the Ar gas pressure (0.1–0.9 MPa) and the Cu content (1–40 at.%) in graphite targets for laser vaporization, various products with different morphologies were observed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The ratios of the Cu-filled CNTs and carbon nanocapsules particularly increased as Ar gas pressure was increased. The maximum ∼60% fraction of Cu-filled CNTs with outer diameter of 10–50 nm and length of 0.3–3 μm was achieved at 0.9 MPa from graphite containing 20 at.% Cu. Most of the encapsulated Cu-nanowires were surrounded by single, double, or triple graphitic layers. Although the yield of the Cu-filled CNTs was also dependent on the Cu content in the graphite targets, no unfilled CNTs were produced even for low Cu content. The growth of Cu-filled CNTs is explained by the formation of molten Cu–C composite particles with an unusually C-rich composition in a space confined by high-pressure Ar gas, followed by precipitating Cu and C from the particles and subjecting them to phase separation.  相似文献
