Lavender and its products have excellent flavor properties. However, most studies focus on the aroma profiles of lavender essential oil (LEO). The volatiles in lavender extracts (LEs), either in volatile compositions or their odor characteristics, have rarely been reported. In this study, the odor characteristics of LEs and LEO were comprehensively investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), coupled with sensory evaluation and principal chemical analysis (PCA). In addition, the extraction conditions of lavender extracts from inflorescences of Lavandula angustifolia Mill. were optimized. Under the optimal conditions of extraction, twice with 95% edible ethanol as the solvent, the LEs tended to contain the higher intensity of characteristic floral, herbal and clove-like odors as well as higher scores of overall assessment and higher amounts of linalool, linalool oxides I and II, linalyl acetate, lavandulyl acetate and total volatiles than LEO. PCA analysis showed that there were significant differences on the odor characteristics between LEO and LEs. The LEO, which was produced by steam distillation with a yield of 2.21%, had the lower intensity of floral, clove-like, medicine-like, pine-like and hay notes, a lower score of overall assessment and lower levels of linalool oxides I and II, linalyl acetate, lavandulyl acetate and total volatiles compared with LEs, whereas the relative contents of linalool and camphor in LEO were significantly higher than that in LEs. Furthermore, the earthy, green and watery odors were only found in LEO. Concerning the odor characteristics and volatile compositions, the LEs had better odor properties than LEO. Culture of plant cells or tissues is a scalable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly approach to obtain extracts and secondary metabolites of uniform quality that can be continuously supplied in controlled conditions, independent of geographical and seasonal variations, environmental factors, and negative biological influences. In addition, tissues and cells can be extracted/obtained from the by-products of other industrial cultivations such as that of Lavandula angustifolia Miller (L. angustifolia), which is largely cultivated for the collection of flowers. Given that, an extract rich in rosmarinic acid was biotechnologically produced starting from cell suspension of L. angustifolia, which was then loaded in hyalurosomes, special phospholipid vesicles enriched with sodium hyaluronate, which in turn are capable of both immobilizing and stabilizing the system. These vesicles have demonstrated to be good candidates for skin delivery as their high viscosity favors their residence at the application site, thus promoting their interaction with the skin components. The main physico-chemical and technological characteristics of vesicles (i.e., mean diameter, polydispersity index, zeta potential and entrapment efficiency of extract in vesicles) were measured along with their biological properties in vitro: biocompatibility against fibroblasts and ability to protect the cells from oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide. Overall, preliminary results disclosed the promising properties of obtained formulations to be used for the treatment of skin diseases associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. 相似文献

Solid-phase microextraction coupled to gas chromatography and mass spectrometry has been applied as a simple alternative method for the analysis of essential oil directly from lavender intact flowering spikes and genuine oils. All recognised major oil constituents were detected by this procedure, with results comparable to those given by a conventional method (organic solvent extraction). ABSTRACTThe lavender flowers and their essential oil are widely used in therapy in Romania and the European Community. Since the European Pharmacopoeia only allows the use of Lavandula sp flowers for medicinal purposes, the objective of this study was to investigate the chemical composition of Lavandula angustifolia extracts obtained by ultrasound-assisted extraction, rapid pressurized extraction at 6.7?bar, and subcritical fluid extraction. The solvents used for the first two methods were mixtures of water and alcohol, glycerin, and propylene glycol. These extracts were analyzed by high-performance thin-layer chromatography, infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflectance, and Raman spectroscopy. The total phenolics were evaluated using a modified Folin–Ciocalteu method. The primary phenolics were chlorogenic acid, gallic acid, umbelliferone, luteolin 7-O-glucoside, vitexin, and isoquercitroside. The extracts were variable in composition, with the highest yield by subcritical fluid extraction, followed by extraction at 6.7?bar. The infrared and Raman spectroscopy results confirmed the chromatography measurements. 相似文献

Flowers of Fuchsia arborescens, F. boliviana, F. fulgens var. 'Variegata', F. magellanica (Onagraceae) and twenty-nine F. magellanica cultivars contained some of the thirteen anthocyanidin 3,5-diglucosides (six), 3-monoglycosides (five) and 3-(2"-galloylglucosides) (two), which altogether were identified. Peonidin 3-O-(2"-O-galloyl-beta-glucopyranoside), which has not been reported before, was found in F. magellanica and F. fulgens var. 'Variegata'. The various corollas with purple nuances were correlated with a relatively high content of malvidin 3,5-diglucoside. Flower colors were to a large extent correlated with the number of oxygen substituents on the anthocyanidin B-ring of the major anthocyanins. 相似文献

Stability measures, such as the total energy and the HOMO-LUMO gap, calculated at the Hartree-Fock and DFT levels of theory, and the aromatic character of five circulenes/flowers with a hexagonal core and petals consisting of 5-, 6- and 7-membered rings are investigated. Geometric (HOMA) and magnetic (NICS) criteria are used to estimate the local aromatic character of every ring of the investigated circulenes. The local aromaticity of the coronene and sumanene patches in two tetrahedrally spanned fullerenes were calculated and compared with the HOMA and NICS values of the corresponding isolated circulenes. 相似文献
