We employ the self-consistent-charge density-functional tight-binding (SCC-DFTB) method for computing geometric, electronic, and vibrational properties for various topological isomers of small fullerenes. We consider all 35 five- and six-member rings containing isomers of small fullerenes, C20, C24, C26, C28, C30, C32, C34, and C36, as first part of a larger effort to catalog CC distance distributions, valence CCC angle distributions, electronic densities of states (DOSs), vibrational densities of states (VDOSs), and infrared (IR) and Raman spectra for fullerenes C20-C180. Common features among the fullerenes are identified and properties characteristic for each specific fullerene isomer are discussed.  相似文献

A recent report of the structural and vibrational properties of heme-bound HNO in myoglobin, MbHNO, revealed a long Fe-N(HNO) bond with the hydrogen atom bonded to the coordinated N atom. The Fe-N(H)-O moiety was reported to exhibit an unusually high Fe-N(HNO) stretching frequency relative to those of the corresponding [FeNO]6 and [FeNO]7 porphyrinates, despite the Fe-N(HNO) bond being longer than either of its Fe-N(NO) counterparts. Herein, we present results from density functional theory calculations of an active site model of MbHNO that support the previous assignment and clarify this seemingly contradictory result. The results are consistent with the experimental evidence for a ground-state Fe-N(H)-O structure having a long Fe-N(HNO) bond and a uniquely high nu(Fe)(-)(N(HNO)) frequency. This high frequency is the result of the correspondingly low reduced mass of the normal mode, which is largely attributable to significant motion of the N-bound hydrogen atom. Additionally, the calculations show the Fe-N(H)O bonding in this complex to be remarkably insensitive to whether the HNO and ImH ligand planes are parallel or perpendicular. This is attributed to insensitivities of the Fe-L(axial) characters of molecular orbitals to the relative HNO and ImH orientation in both the parallel and perpendicular conformers.  相似文献

We performed density‐functional‐theoretic calculations to investigate the structural, magnetic and vibrational properties of the stoichiometric clusters (CrN)n ( ). We show that the building block of the ground‐state structures of these clusters is a square CrNCrN unit; the only exception with n > 2 occurs for (CrN)3, but this cluster has an isomer not very far in energy from the ground state consisting of a pair of CrNCrN squares sharing a CrN bond. In the smaller CrN, (CrN)2, and (CrN)3 clusters the magnetic moments of the N atoms are non‐negligible and antiparallel to those of the Cr atoms, but for the larger species (CrN)4, (CrN)5, (CrN)6, and (CrN)9 the cluster magnetic moments are almost entirely due to the Cr atoms. Lack of imaginary vibrational frequencies in the predicted ground‐state structures of (CrN)n ( ) confirms that they are mechanically stable equilibrium states. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A systematic quantum mechanical study of the possible conformations, their relative stabilities, vibrational and electronic spectra and thermodynamic parameters of methyl-3-methoxy-2-propenoate has been reported for the electronic ground (S0) and first excited (S1) states using time-dependent and time-independent Density Functional Theory (DFT) and RHF methods in extended basis sets. Detailed studies have been restricted to the E-isomer, which is found to be substantially more stable than the Z-isomer. Four possible conformers c′Cc, c′Tc, t′Cc, t′Tc, of which the first two are most stable, have been identified in the S0 and S1 states. Electronic excitation to S1 state is accompanied with a reversal in the relative stability of the c′Cc and c′Tc conformers and a substantial reduction in the rotational barrier between them, as compared with the S0 state. Optimized geometries of these conformers in the S0 and S1 states are being reported. Based on suitably scaled RHF/6-31G** and DFT/6-311G** calculations, assignments have been provided to the fundamental vibrational bands of both these conformers in terms of frequency, form and intensity of vibrations and potential energy distribution across the symmetry coordinates in the S0 state. A complete interpretation of the electronic spectra of the conformers has been provided.  相似文献

The 2385 classical isomers and four nonclassical isomers of fullerene C62 have been studied by PM3, HCTH/3-21G//SVWN/STO-3G, B3LYP/6-31G(d)//HCTH/3-21G, and B3LYP/6-31G(d)//B3LYP/6-31G(d). The Cs:7mbr isomer, with a chain of four adjacent pentagons surrounding a heptagon, is predicted to be the most stable isomer, followed by C2v:4mbr which is 3.15 kcal/mol higher in energy. C2:0032 with three pairs of adjacent pentagons is the most stable isomer in the classical framework. To clarify the relative stabilities of C62 isomers at high temperatures, the entropy contributions are taken into account on the basis of the Gibbs energy at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level. Analyses reveal that Cs:7mbr prevails in a wide temperature range. The vibrational frequencies of the five most stable C62 fullerene isomers are also predicted at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level, and the simulated IR spectra show important differences in positions and intensities of the vibrational modes for different isomers. The nucleus-independent chemical shift and the density of states of the three most stable isomers show that the square in C2v:4mbr and the adjacent pentagons in Cs:7mbr and C2:0032 possess high chemical reactivity. In addition, the electronic spectra and second-order hyperpolarizabilities are determined by means of ZINDO and the sum-over-states mode. The intensity-dependent refractive index gamma(-omega; omega, omega, -omega) at omega = 2.3305 eV of Cs:7mbr is very large because of resonance with the external field. The second-order hyperpolarizabilities of the five most stable isomers of C62 are predicted to be larger than those of C60.  相似文献

In this work, the molecular geometry of heptachlor is investigated using ab initio HF, DFT, LDA, and GGA methods. The natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis is performed at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory. The first order hyperpolarizability βtotal, the mean polarizability Δα, the anisotropy of the polarizability Δα, and the dipole moment μ, are calculated by B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) and HF/6- 311++G(d,p) methods. The first order hyperpolarizability (βtotal) is calculated based on the finite field approach. UV spectral parameters along with HOMO, LUMO energies for heptachlor are determined in vacuum and the solvent phase using HF, DFT, and TD-DFT/B3LYP methods implemented with the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. Atomic charges and electron density of heptachlor in vacuum and ethanol are calculated using DFT/B3LYP and TD-DFT/B3LYP methods and the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. In addition, after the frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), the electrostatic potential (ESP), the electron density (ED), and the solvent accessible surface of heptachlor are visualized as a results of the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) calculation. Densities of states (DOS), the external electric field (EF) effect on the HOMO-LUMO gap, and the dipole moment are investigated by LDA and GGA methods.  相似文献

We used density functional theory (DFT) to study the structural, elastic, electronic, and lattice dynamical properties of tetragonal BiCoO3 applying the “norm-conserving” pseudopotentials within the local spin density approximation (LSDA). The calculated equilibrium lattice parameters and atomic displacements are in agreement with the available experimental and theoretical results. Moreover, the structural stability of tetragonal BiCoO3 were confirmed by the calculated elastic constants. In addition, the elastic properties of polycrystalline aggregates including bulk, shear and Young's moduli, and Poisson's ratio are also determined. The electronic band structure, total and partial density of states (DOS and PDOS) with ferromagnetic spin configuration are obtained. The results show that tetragonal BiCoO3 has an indirect band gap with both up- and down-spin configurations and its bonding behavior is of covalent nature. We compute Born effective charge (BEC) which is found to be quite anisotropic of Bi, Co and O atoms. The infrared and Raman active phonon mode frequencies at the Г point are found. The phonon dispersion curves exhibit imaginary frequencies which lead from the high-symmetry tetragonal phase to low-symmetry rhombohedral phase in BiCoO3. The six independent elastic constants, including bulk, shear and Young's moduli, and Poisson's ratio, complete BEC tensor and phonon dispersion relations in tetragonal BiCoO3 are predicted for the first time. Results of the calculations are compared with the existing experimental and theoretical data.  相似文献

The calculation in the present work is conducted with the help of CRYSTAL’17 package using PBE method, including gradient approximation and taking into account van der Waals forces as well as the B3LYP hybrid functional. Crystal structure and chemical bond, elastic properties, equation of state, structural properties under pressure, and vibrational properties are studied. The elastic constants of single crystal and polycrystalline properties are obtained; anisotropic nature of the crystal is determined. The impact of hydrostatic compression up to pressure of 7.5 GPa on the L-alanine properties is studied. The effect of taking into account the forces of intermolecular interaction on the accuracy of calculation of lattice constants and intermolecular distances is shown. The atom charges and bond overlap population in molecules are determined within the framework of the Mulliken scheme. The total and partial density of states is calculated and it is established that the transition from valence band to conduction band is performed by electrons from oxygen atoms to carbon atoms of the –COO group. The average value of the tensor component of the polarizability, permittivity, and piezoelectric stress coefficients were 40.67 Å3, 2.08, and ? 4.25 pm/V, relatively. The obtained dependence of the lattice constants demonstrated occurrence of intersection within pressure interval of about 1.8 GPa, the fact that has earlier been established experimentally. It has been shown that C–C and C–N intramolecular distances reduce with pressure increase, as for the –COO group, C1–O1 distances decrease, while C1–O2 distances increase. The mode Grüneisen parameters, obtained from ab initio calculations for the first time, revealed the increase in the vibration frequency of the –NH3 group, while other vibration frequencies decrease with increasing pressure.

[C3N2H5]6[Bi4Br18] has been synthesized and characterized by the X-ray (at 293 and 110 K), calorimetric, dilatometric and dielectric measurements. At room temperature it crystallizes in the monoclinic space group, C2/m. A crystal structure consists of disordered imidazolium cations and ordered discrete tetramers of [Bi4Br18]6-. This compound reveals a rich polymorphism in a solid state. It undergoes three solid–solid phase transitions: from phase I to II at 426/423 K (heating–cooling), II→III at 227 K and III→IV at 219.5/219 K. A clear dielectric relaxation process is found in the room temperature phase II. Infrared studies of the polycrystalline [C3N2H5]6[Bi4Br18] showed that the ν(N–H), δ(ring) and δ(C–H) modes of the imidazolium cations appeared to be very sensitive to the IV→III phase transition. 1H NMR measurements confirmed a key role of the imidazolium cations in the phase transitions mechanisms at low temperatures.  相似文献

We report results on the electronic, vibrational, and optical properties of SnO2 obtained using first-principles calculations performed within the density functional theory. All the calculated phonon frequencies, real and imaginary parts of complex dielectric function, the energy-loss spectrum, the refractive index, the extinction, and the absorption coefficients show good agreement with experimental results. Based on our calculations, the SnO2 electron and hole effective masses were found to be strongly anisotropic. The lattice contribution to the low-frequency region of the SnO2 dielectric function arising from optical phonons was also determined resulting the values of ? 1⊥ latt (0) = 14.6 and ? 1∥ latt (0) = 10.7 for directions perpendicular and parallel to the tetragonal c-axis, respectively. This is in excellent agreement with the available experimental data. After adding the electronic contribution to the lattice contribution, a total average value of ?1(0) = 18.2 is predicted for the static permittivity constant of SnO2.  相似文献

A quantitative study of the structure and electronic properties of Co-corrole, Co-corrin, and Co-porphyrin, using density functional theory, is reported. The structure of each macrocycle is optimized, with no symmetry constraints, by considering different spin states. The ground-state structures and spin states (S = 1 for Co-corrole, S = 0 for Co-corrin and S = 1/2 for Co-porphyrin) are in good agreement with the experimental data available. The trends in the sizes of the coordination cavities upon varying the inner metal atom and/or the macrocycle are analyzed and compared with those for the Fe-porphyrin we studied previously. Our results reveal that most of the distortion of the Co-corrin core in the B12 coenzyme is due to the inherent properties of Co-corrin. Quite different behaviors are found between corrinoids and porphyrins upon varying the spin state. While an increase in the metal-nitrogen (M-N) distance with spin state occurs in the porphyrins, the corrinoids show little variation in the M-N distance and, in some cases, undergo small structural changes in the ring structure. These results aid in understanding the often discussed question of why nature has chosen corrin/porphyrin for carrying out the particular biological functions identified in the B12 coenzyme.  相似文献

In this Letter we report a density functional all-electron calculation of the structural and electronic properties of the polynitrogen high-energy molecule, azidopentazole (N8). We have also performed a vibrational analysis to determine the IR and Raman spectra. Our calculated geometrical properties and vibrational frequencies are in good agreement with previous ab initio and density functional calculations. The weaker IR modes show a different relative ordering than previously reported. We also report calculated Raman intensities for azidopentazole.  相似文献

Hydrogen undergoes dissociative chemisorption on small titanium clusters. How the electronic structure of the cluster changes as a function of the number of adsorbed hydrogen atoms is an important issue in nanocatalysis and hydrogen storage. In this paper, a detailed theoretical investigation of the structural, energetic, and electronic properties of the icosahedral Ti13 cluster is presented as a function of the number of adsorbed hydrogen atoms. The results show that hydrogen loaded Ti13H20 and Ti13H30 clusters are exceptionally stable and are characterized by hydrogen multicenter bonds. In Ti13H20, the dissociated hydrogen atoms are bound to each of the 20 triangular faces of Ti13, while in Ti13H30, they are bound to the 30 Ti-Ti edges of Ti13. Consequently, the chemisorption and desorption energies of the Ti13H20 (1.93 eV, 3.10 eV) are higher than that of Ti13H30 (1.13 eV, 1.95 eV). While increased hydrogen adsorption leads to an elongation of the Ti-Ti bonds, there is a concomitant increase in the electrostatic interaction between the dissociated hydrogen atoms and the Ti13 cluster. This enhanced interaction results from the participation of the subsurface titanium atom at higher hydrogen concentrations. Illustrative results of hydrogen saturation on the larger icosahedral Ti55 cluster are also discussed. The importance of these results on hydrogen saturated titanium clusters in elucidating the mechanism of hydrogen adsorption and desorption in titanium doped complex metal hydrides is discussed.  相似文献

The structural and electronic properties of borazine cyclacenes (BNn) have been investigated by performing semiempirical molecular orbital self-consistent field calculations at the level of AM1 method within the RHF formulation. It has been found that as the number of borazine rings increases in the arenoid belt the structures become more exothermic.  相似文献

The results of a theoretical study of the nanostructured ternary compound HAlO are presented. We have considered isolated (HAlO)n clusters, the interactions between two such clusters, and two-dimensional layers of HAlO. In many of the calculations we used a parametrized density-functional tight-binding method in the calculation of the electronic properties for a given structure, combined with two different unbiased approaches, i.e., an "Aufbau" and a genetic-algorithm method, for optimizing the structure for clusters with n up to 26. The results for the isolated clusters are analyzed by means of similarity, stability, and shape parameters. Isolated structures with n up to 6 were also studied intensively with pure DFT methods.  相似文献

This account presents an overview of our achievements in structural and chemical understanding of endohedral metallofullerenes (EMFs), a new class of metal‐carbon hybrid materials formed by encapsulation of metals inside fullerene cavities. Structural determination of EMFs is of fundamental importance for understanding their intrinsic properties and the formation mechanism, and for broadening their applications. We have developed an effective method for determining the structures of paramagnetic EMFs, and also succeeded in observing the motion of cluster in a di‐metal EMF for the first time. Recently, we unambiguously established the structures of some carbide EMFs which had been wrongly assumed as conventional EMFs previously. More importantly, we have obtained some insoluble EMF species which had never been explored or even expected before. Meanwhile, the chemical properties of various EMFs with different cage structures or different metallic cores have been systematically investigated by means of both covalent and supramolecular considerations, yielding many fascinating results relating to the dictating effect of internal metals. It is noteworthy that all these achievements are based on unambiguous X‐ray results of pristine or functionalized EMFs. DOI 10.1002/tcr.201100038  相似文献

The structural characteristics, electronic properties, and nonlinear optical properties of borazine-based conjugated derivatives have been explored at B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level. The effects of various electron donor and acceptor substituents (H, F, Cl, Br, Me, CF3, NH2, OH, COOH, CHO, NO2) on the structure, polarizability, frontier orbitals, the most intense electronic transition, and hyperpolarizabilities have studied. Calculations show that NO2-substituted molecules have lowest hardness, the largest isotropic polarizability and anisotropy of polarizability, and first hyperpolarizability.  相似文献

The molecular structure of trimethylsilyl trichloroacetate, CCl3C(O)OSi(CH3)3, was determined by ab initio (MP2) and DFT calculations using 6-31G(d), 6-311G(d,p), 6-311++G(d,p) and 6-311++G(3df,3pd) basis sets. The infrared and Raman spectra for the liquid phase were also recorded and the bands observed assigned to the vibrational normal modes. The study was completed using natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis and atoms in molecules (AIM) calculations. The comparison between the calculated molecular geometrical parameters, conformation and vibrational properties and those measured for CX3C(O)OR [X = F, Cl and R = CH3, Si(CH3)3] was of particular interest in order to check the behavior of the CO and CO with respect to the different substitutions. The experimental vibrational data, along with calculated theoretical force constants, were used to define a scaled quantum mechanical force field for the target system that enabled us to estimate the measured wavenumbers with a final root-mean-square deviation of 8.92 cm−1.  相似文献

The electronic structure, stability, and reactivity of iodized aluminum clusters, which have been investigated via reactivity studies, are examined by first-principles gradient corrected density functional calculations. The observed behavior of Al13I(x)- and Al14I(x)- clusters is shown to indicate that for x < or = 8, they consist of compact Al13- and Al14++ cores, respectively, demonstrating that they behave as halogen- or alkaline earth-like superatoms. For x > 8, the Al cores assume a cagelike structure associated with the charging of the cores. The observed mass spectra of the reacted clusters reveal that Al13I(x)- species are more stable for even x while Al14I(x)- exhibit enhanced stability for odd x(x > or = 3). It is shown that these observations are linked to the formation and filling of "active sites," demonstrating a novel chemistry of superatoms.  相似文献
