We have investigated the effects of acceleration of a charged particle on its Cerenkov emission and ionization-losses. We have considered the accelerated motion of a charged particle in an infinite medium with the acceleration parallel to the direction of its motion. We have used the method of Fourier transforms to solve the Maxwell's equations with appropriate current and charge-densities to find electromagnetic fields and hence the force experienced by the incident charge due to its interaction with the medium (dielectric or plasma). The results obtained are general and applicable to any acceleration. In the approximations of ‘small acceleration’ and ‘small interaction time’, we have solved the wave equations and determined electromagnetic potentials. It is found that the acceleration of the charged particle strongly changes both its ionization-loss and Cerenkov emission. 相似文献

The paper describes the operation and construction of an electron gun designed to form beams with variable transverse energy and a variable spread of magnetic moments. Transverse energy is acquired by the electrons as the beam passes through a weakly non-adiabatic magnetic step, and in an adiabatic motion through a growing magnetic field. The small spread of magnetic moments of the beam electrons is achieved by fulfilling the so-called focusing conditions which ensure that the spread of moments resulting from different initial radii of the particles is compensated by their initial radial velocities. 相似文献

It is shown that when a charged particle moving in the field of a plane electromagnetic wave is subjected to another electromagnetic wave, incident at some angle with respect to the first, induced radiation and absorption occur. This Letter treats the scattering of electromagnetic waves by an electrically charged spherical particle in near-field approximation. Particular attention is paid to the external intensity distribution at the outer edges of the particle. We study dynamics of a charged particle under action of an electromagnetic wave that propagates obliquely to a background uniform magnetic field. The dynamics is described by a slow-fast Hamiltonian system. We show that long-term dynamics is dominated by phenomena of capture of particle into resonance with the wave and escape from this resonance, as well as of scattering on resonance. We find that the variation of the particle?s kinetic energy on the time interval between capture and escape is bounded and accumulated in the motion along the background field. We discuss possible applications of the obtained results. 相似文献

Current problems of the theory of multiple scattering of electromagnetic waves by discrete random media are reviewed, with an emphasis on densely packed media. All equations presented are based on the rigorous theory of electromagnetic scattering by an arbitrary system of non-spherical particles. The main relations are derived in the circular-polarization basis. By applying methods of statistical electromagnetics to a discrete random medium in the form of a plane-parallel layer, we transform these relations into equations describing the average (coherent) field and equations for the sums of ladder and cyclical diagrams in the framework of the quasi-crystalline approximation. The equation for the average field yields analytical expressions for the generalized Lorentz-Lorenz law and the generalized Ewald-Oseen extinction theorem, which are traditionally used for the calculation of the effective refractive index. By assuming that the particles are in the far-field zones of each other, we transform all equations asymptotically into the well-known equations for sparse media. Specifically, the equation for the sum of the ladder diagrams is reduced to the classical vector radiative transfer equation. We present a simple approximate solution of the equation describing the weak localization (WL) effect (i.e., the sum of cyclical diagrams) and validate it by using experimental and numerically exact theoretical data. Examples of the characteristics of WL as functions of the physical properties of a particulate medium are given. The applicability of the interference concept of WL to densely packed media is discussed using results of numerically exact computer solutions of the macroscopic Maxwell equations for large ensembles of spherical particles. These results show that theoretical predictions for spare media composed of non-absorbing or weakly absorbing particles are reasonably accurate if the particle packing density is less than ∼30%. However, a further increase of the packing density and/or absorption may cause optical effects not predicted by the low-density theory and caused by near-field effects. The origin of the near-filed effects is discussed in detail. 相似文献

The manipulation of charged particles into and out of Paul and Penning ion traps is discussed in terms of the phase space volume of a particle collection and its manipulation. It is shown that such traps can have very large usable phase space volumes but that the shape of such volumes is severely mismatched to that of a typical ion beam from a separator or storage ring. Possible injection schemes are presented as well as some aspects of ion cooling within the trap and subsequent ion extraction. Possible applications to the manipulation of antiproton beams from LEAR and 10 MeV/A highly-stripped heavy ions at GSI are discussed. 相似文献

A nonlinear Lorenz model describing interactions between charged particles and combined ac-dc electromagnetic fields is studied for various combinations of frequencies, field strengths and relative angle (θ) between the ac and dc magnetic fields. Strong directional effects on the magnitude and location of resonant particle motion are observed when θ is varied and the regular resonance windows in the aligned field (θ = 0) and linear version of the model studied previously by Durney etaal., break up to form irregular and less well pronounced regions of large and small particle displacements when nonlinearities are taken into account. The length of time takne to achieve resonant behaviour also becomes larger and more variable when nonlinearities are present. The possible relevance of these effects to interactions between electromagnetic fields and biological media is briefly discussed. 相似文献

The electrostatic potential and electron number density distribution in MOFs were calculated using the most accurate data for the atomic form factors. A theoretical approach for predicting the attenuation of microwave propagation in sandstorms is presented, with electric charges generated on the sand grains taken into account. It is found that the effect of electric charges distributed partially on the sand surface is notable. The calculated attenuation is in good agreement with that measured in certain conditions. The distribution of electric charges on the surface of sand grains, which is not easy to measure, can be approximately determined by measuring the attenuation value of electromagnetic waves. Some effects of sand radius, dielectric permittivity, frequency of electromagnetic wave, and visibility of sandstorms on the attenuation are also discussed quantitatively. Finally, a new electric parameter is introduced to describe the roles of scattering, absorption and effect of charges in attenuation. 相似文献
