Reflection coefficients of electromagnetic waves in a nonuniform plasma layer with electrons, positive ions and negative ions, covering a metal surface are investigated by using the finite-difference-time-domMn method. It is shown that the reflection coemcients are influenced greatly by the density gradient on the layer edge, layer thickness and electron proportion, i.e., the effect of the negative ions. It is also found that low reflection or high attenuation can be reached by properly choosing high electron proportion, thick plasma layer, and smooth density gradient in the low frequency regime, but sharp density gradient in the high frequency regime.  相似文献

Using the fluid model for the nonlinear response of ions, we have studied the nonlinear scattering of an electromagnetic ion cyclotron wave off the ion acoustic wave in a plasma. The low frequency nonlinearity arises through the parallel ponderomotive force on ions and the high frequency nonlinearity arises through the nonlinear current density of ions. For a typical nonisothermal plasma (T e/T i∼10) the threshold for this instability in a uniform plasma is ∼1mW/cm2. At power densities ≳102 W/cm2, the growth rate for backscatter turns out to be ∼104s−1.  相似文献

The generation of high order harmonics from an inhomogeneous ovderdense plasma target irradiated by an ultrashort intense laser pulse is studied by numerical simulation. During such interaction, ultrafast electron bunches are generated and excite electron plasma oscillations as they pass through the overdense target. These plasma oscillations will emit high-frequency electromagnetic emission by linear mode conversion. Instead of the integer harmonies generation, the emission appears with a broadband and even continuous spectrum corresponding to the electron plasma frequency range of the inhomogeneous plasma density.  相似文献

Ion acoustic shock waves (IASW's) are studied in an unmagnetized plasma consisting of electrons, positrons and adiabatically hot positive ions. This is done by deriving the Kortweg-deVries-Burger (KdVB) equation under the small amplitude perturbation expansion method. The dissipation is introduced by taking into account the kinematic viscosity among the plasma constituents. It is found that the strength of ion acoustic shock wave is maximum for spherical, intermediate for cylindrical, and minimum for planar geometry. It is observed that the positron concentration, ratio of ion to electron temperature, and the plasma kinematic viscosity significantly modifies the shock structure. Finally, it is found that the temporal evolution of the non-planar IASW's is quite different by comparison with the planar geometry. The relevance of the present study with regard to the dense astrophysical environments is also pointed out.  相似文献

The problem of nonlinear variable charge dust acoustic waves in a dusty plasma with trapped ions is revisited. The correct non-isothermal ion charging current is presented for the first time based on the orbit motion limited (OML) approach. The variable dust charge is then expressed in terms of the Lambert function and we take advantage of this new transcendental function to investigate nonlinear localized dust acoustic waves in a charge varying dusty plasma with trapped ions more rigorously.  相似文献

New electrostatic instabilities in the plasma shock front are reported. These instabilities are driven by the electro- static field which is caused by charge separation and the parameter gradients in a plasma shock front. The linear analysis to the high frequency branch of electrostatic instabilities has been carried out and the dispersion relations are obtained numerically. There are unstable disturbing waves in both the parallel and perpendicular directions of shock propagation. The real frequencies of both unstable waves are similar to the electron electrostatic wave, and the unstable growth rate in the parallel direction is much greater than the one in the perpendicular direction. The dependence of growth rates on the electric field and parameter gradients is also presented.  相似文献

Linear and nonlinear electrostatic waves in unmagnetized electron-positron-ion (e-p-i) plasmas are studied. The electrons and positrons are assumed to be isothermal and dynamic while ions are considered to be stationary to neutralize the plasma background only. It is found that both upper (fast) and lower (slow) Langmuir waves can propagates in such a type of pair (e-p) plasma in the presence of ions. The small amplitude electrostatic Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) solitons are also obtained using reductive perturbation method. The electrostatic potential hump structures are found to exist when the temperature of the electrons is larger than the positrons, while the electrostatic potential dips are obtained in the reverse temperature conditions for electrons and positrons in e-p-i plasmas. The numerical results are also shown for illustration. The effects of different ion concentration and temperature ratios of electrons and positrons, on the formation of nonlinear electrostatic potential structures in e-p-i plasmas are also discussed.  相似文献

It is shown that ions can be accelerated by the space charge electric force arising from the separation of electrons and positrons due to the ponderomotive force of the magnetic field-aligned circularly polarized electromagnetic (CPEM) wave in a magnetized electron–positron–ion plasma. The ion acceleration critically depends on the external magnetic field strength. The result is useful in understanding differential ion acceleration in magnetized electron–positron–ion plasmas, such as those in magnetars and in some laboratory experiments that aim to mimic astrophysical environments.  相似文献

Multi-MeV ion production from the interaction of a short laser pulse with a high-density plasma, accompanied by an underdense preplasma, has been studied with a particle-in-cell simulation and good agreement is found with experiment. The mechanism primarily responsible for the acceleration of ions is identified. Comparison with experiments sheds light on the ion-energy dependence on laser intensity, preplasma scale length, and relative ion energies for a multi-species plasma. Two regimes of maximum ion-energy dependence on laser intensity, I, have been identified: subrelativistic, ∝I; and relativistic, ∝. Simulations show that the energy of the accelerated ions versus the preplasma scale length increases linearly and then saturates. In contrast, the ion energy decreases with the thickness of the solid-density plasma. Received: 13 December 2001 / Published online: 7 February 2002  相似文献

The effect of deviations from isothermality of ions on arbitrary amplitude dust-acoustic solitary structures is studied in an unmagnetized dusty plasma which consists of a negative charged dust fluid, free electrons and hot ions obeying a trapped distribution. For the finite deviation from isothermality of ions, the basic properties of large amplitude solitary waves are studied by employing pseudo-potential approach. It is shown that the effect of such ion behavior changes the maximum values of the Mach number and the amplitude for which solitary wave can exist. For the case that the deviation from isothermality due to nonlinear resonant particle effects is small, calculations by reductive perturbation method leads to a generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation with mixed nonlinearity. The latter admits a stationary dust-acoustic solitary solution with similar width and qualitatively different amplitude in comparison to the case that deviations from isothermality are finite. Furthermore, effects of the equilibrium free electron density and such trapped ions on the amplitude of solitary structures imply a non-uniform transition from the Boltzmann ion distribution to the trapped ion one.  相似文献

An adiabatic hot dusty plasma (containing non-inertial adiabatic electron and ion fluids, and negatively charged inertial adiabatic dust fluid) is considered. The basic properties of arbitrary amplitude dust-acoustic (DA) solitary waves, which exist in such an adiabatic hot dusty plasma, are explicitly examined by the pseudo-potential approach. To compare the basic properties (critical Mach number, amplitude and width) of the DA solitary waves observed in a dusty plasma containing adiabatic electron, ion and dust fluids with those observed in a dusty plasma containing isothermal electron and ion fluids and adiabatic dust fluid, it has been found that the adiabatic effect of inertia-less electron and ion fluids has significantly modified the basic properties of the DA solitary waves, and that on the basic properties of the DA solitary waves, the adiabatic effect of electron and ion fluids is much more significant than that of the dust fluid.  相似文献

A modulation of an electron beam density at frequencies lower than an ion cyclotron frequency enhanced the low frequency instability of broad band and heated plasma ions in a beam-plasma system. The heating of ions is explained by the stochastic process of a weakly turbulent plasma.  相似文献

The nonlinear propagation of dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) waves in an adiabatic dusty plasma (containing adiabatic inertial-less electrons, adiabatic inertial ions, and negatively charged static dust) is investigated by the pseudo-potential approach. The combined effects of adiabatic electrons and negatively charged static dust on the basic properties (critical Mach number, amplitude, and width) of small as well as arbitrary amplitude DIA solitary waves are explicitly examined. It is found that the combined effects of adiabatic electrons and negatively charged static dust significantly modify the basic properties (critical Mach number, amplitude, and width) of the DIA solitary waves. It is also found that due to the effect of adiabaticity of electrons, negative DIA solitary waves [which are found to exist in a dusty plasma (containing isothermal electrons, cold ions, and negatively charged static dust) for α=zdnd0/ni0>2/3, where zd is the number of electrons residing onto a dust grain surface, nd0 is the constant (static) dust number density and ni0 is the equilibrium ion number density] disappears, i.e. due to the effect of adiabatic electrons, one cannot have negative DIA solitary waves for any possible set of dusty plasma parameters [0?α<1 and 0?σ=Ti0/Te0?1, where Ti0 (Te0) is electron (ion) temperature at equilibrium].  相似文献

The Korteweg-de Vries-Burger (KdVB) equation is derived for ion acoustic shock waves in a weakly relativistic electron-positron-ion plasma. Electrons, positrons are considered isothermal and ions are relativistic. The travelling wave solution has been acquired by employing the tangent hyperbolic method. The vivid display of the graphical results is presented and analyzed. It is observed that amplitude and steepness of the shock wave decrease with increase of the relativistic streaming factor, the positron concentration and they increase with the increase of the coefficient of kinematic viscosity and vice versa. It is determined that at low temperature the shock wave propagates, whereas at very high temperature the solitary wave propagates in the system. The results may have relevance in astrophysical plasmas as well as in inertial confinement fusion plasmas.  相似文献

Dispersion properties of low-frequency electrostatic waves in metallic carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are investigated. We assume that metallic CNTs are charged due to the field emission, and hence the metallic nanotubes can be regarded as charged dust rods surrounded by degenerate electrons and ions. We deduce the perturbed electron and ion number densities by using the quantum hydrodynamic model, while the dust rod density perturbation follows the classical expression. The Poisson equation, in turn, gives the dispersion relation for the low-frequency electrostatic oscillations in our three-species bounded plasma system composed of metallic CNTs. The oscillation frequency of CNTs can be used for diagnostic purposes, e.g. for the determination of charge on nanotubes.  相似文献

The effects of nonadiabatic dust charge fluctuation on the nonlinear propagation of the dust acoustic (DA) solitary wave in collisionless dusty plasma with streaming ions have been investigated. By using the reductive perturbation technique, a modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation governing the nonlinear waves was derived and the solitary solution of the mKdV equation was also obtained. It was shown that the damping rate of the slow mode DA solitary wave was strongly affected by the ion streaming velocity.  相似文献

Laser wake field acceleration: the highly non-linear broken-wave regime   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We use three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations to study laser wake field acceleration (LWFA) at highly relativistic laser intensities. We observe ultra-short electron bunches emerging from laser wake fields driven above the wave-breaking threshold by few-cycle laser pulses shorter than the plasma wavelength. We find a new regime in which the laser wake takes the shape of a solitary plasma cavity. It traps background electrons continuously and accelerates them. We show that 12-J, 33-fs laser pulses may produce bunches of 3×1010 electrons with energy sharply peaked around 300 MeV. These electrons emerge as low-emittance beams from plasma layers just 700-μm thick. We also address a regime intermediate between direct laser acceleration and LWFA, when the laser-pulse duration is comparable with the plasma period. A dusty plasma system consisting of electrons, ions, and negative as well as positive dust particles has been considered. The basic properties of arbitrary amplitude solitary potential structures that may exist in such a multi-component dusty plasma have been theoretically investigated by the pseudo-potential approach. It has been found that the presence of additional positive dust component does not only significantly modify the basic properties of solitary potential structures, but also causes the coexistence of positive and negative solitary potential structures, which is a completely new feature shown in a dusty plasma with dust of opposite polarity.  相似文献
